- Atlanta police have arrested a man accused of stealing luggage from people at the airport. “This silver one here, I have a tracking device in it and I tracked it to you. And you have my shirt on...that’s insane. My shirt and my jeans,” the victim said.

The airlines charge baggage fee to customer and made 100's millions of dollars but nobody to check customers bags. What a shame.
Back in the day, security checked for tags of baggage claims before letting customers through. Not anymore!
What a SHAM😮
Six Flags charges for parking but takes zero responsibility if someone breaks in your car while you’re in the park. Business practices like this should be illegal.
That’s ridiculous! They should bear the responsibility for sure!
Less is more... I guess.
So disrespectful to not only have someone violate you & steal your luggage but to be wearing your clothes too😢
I agree. But also sad if the perp was just homeless and reasoned that people at the airport have more money and more to lose than him and rationalizes so that he can steal from them to sustain himself. Well either way he's gonna be somewhere where he won't be starving for a while
Happened to me at my apartment laundry room. Caught her out in the street wearing my shirt.
I am telling you this guy is working for the Biden Administration. They just arrested Sam Britton a couple of months back for stealing women's luggage and then wearing her clothing.

Its disrespectful but I couldnt stop laughing. That's so hilarious
The airports and airlines don't do jack to protect your luggage when it leaves the plane and goes to the terminal. Travelers are on their own.
Bingo
The security just has been breached in airports.
@@debbiebernhardt5406 No, there's no security for baggage claims at most airports nowadays.
Never had a problem with my luggage showing up to my final destination. Must be doing something right
Sometimes it's the employees themselves stealing from passengers.
I am 67 years old and remember the days when we could not leave the airport with bags without showing our baggage claim tickets to prove they were ours. You are practically strip searched going through TSA, but people can walk out with someone else’s bags. Maybe need to reallocate some TSA employees to baggage and let us leave our shoes and belts on.🙄
TSA is not there to protect us. TSA is there to intimidate citizens and to normalize our lack of rights.
Wonder why that practice stopped. With todays technology, there has to be a way to check bags going out of the airport.
@@the3mfs359 It’s expensive to manage such an operation and it’s irritating to the passengers to have to wait for exit. In fact, my recollection is that Hartsfield-Jackson was the last major airport to discontinue the practice.
My "developing' home country still does that
@@JalikaTunkara I’d be ok with it myself as I’m from Atlanta originally. Unfortunately, people’s patience is very short, especially Americans which makes it unlikely. Also, the cost of lost bags is far less than the cost of security. Not gonna happen in this country because the economics don’t justify it.
Yeah! Back when I was a kid in the 70's and 80's when checking your bag was still free, the luggage handlers outside at the curb would want to see your plane ticket to verify that you're actually a passenger, put a ticket on your luggage and give you the tear off stub. When you got to your destination and picked up your bag from baggage claim and went to walk outside the airport there were airline employees standing at the exit checking to make sure your stub matched the one on your baggage. If it matched you were allowed to leave the airport with your bag. Those "luggage guards" as my mother called them were a permanent fixture at airports.
What the hell happened to them?
I still get the ticket when I have checked luggage. No one cares on the other side though. You are 100% right.
9/11. They started funding TSA most likely
Not cost effective.
I miss the Sky Captains. They were wonderful porters.
Now they just have big fat ignorant bl women with bad attitudes barking orders at you!
I fly a couple of dozen times per year. In the past 20 years, flying into dozens of airports, I have not once been asked to verify the luggage I have is mine.
The US or abroad 🤷🏽♂️ The closest I came was coming thru customs at MIA and I got pulled for some type of random check. Other than that, it’s more or less the honor system.
I know. I don't think Wendy has ever flown before.
There was a time when a view airports had checks as you left baggage claim. Happened to me a handful of times. In those days it was a manual check. Today, they could have scan your boarding pass and the bag tag and verify that it's yours.
@@andydaniel2 agree. But was years ago and was a great practice and we never stood in line for it…..it was immediate
This is why I don't check luggage anymore....I have learned to pack light with a backpack only since my luggage has been lost twice before.
Great work
“Lost”
Smart.
been doing that for YEARS. Learned from the old Pappy' to travel LIGHT, esp. if it's domestic. IF I do bring luggage, it can be something that can be replaced. Clothes can be replaced. Obviously, you have your passport, money, laptop in your hand-carry. I don't know people bring their entire wardrobe with them. People are just chronic hoarders..
Never leave anything valuable in ck bags……Zero security at baggage claim, anyone can walk up & steal…airports won’t compensate you properly.
This stuff makes me so mad! No one has the right to take your things!
It should be a federal crime if it took place at an airport, if u act disorderly at an airport, it’s a federal crime, the same thing should apply to thefts
This is a FARBRICATED, MAKE-BELIEVE STORY, ffs.
Those places with the bars are for those people...No worries.
And the thief was SLEEPING IN THE AIR PORT what the hell is up with that???? They need to stop letting the homeless sleep in places like this
Yep. Where the hell are the airport police? This nation is falling because we are by default allowing this behavior. No body wants to "hurt" their feelings. If it is not the gate agents or baggage handlers or non-binary FJB official Sam Brinton stealing your luggage it is the damn homeless people you are being allowed to camp out at the airport.
Give him a room to sleep in problem solved
they need to bag the homeless, stuff them in suitcases and leave the suitcases on the carousels for a few days
They need to build shelters for people experiencing homelessness, who are more often victims of crimes than they are criminals.
It’s wrong to blame all people experiencing homelessness.
What's the best place to sleep if you don't have a home?
One time my friends went to the bar and we went home and realized one of our friends phones was missng. We used one of our friends other phones to track it, was going all over the place, we later found out he put his phone in his own backpack and it was on silent, so we ran around town tracking ourselves.

The thief had two hands two feet he could stand and walk. Seems like he could work and take care of himself. Thieves just aren't afraid of the consequences.
He was an illegal immigrant !! 👍😎
Exactly!! That's what pisses me off about thieves, all that effort they put into stealing they could have applied that very same effort to get a Damn job.
If you can steal luggage, you’re able to wash dishes. One of my first jobs (the washing dishes!)
There are NO consequences.....ENJOY the New World order !
Work is the only thing they're afraid of. And we're letting in so many unvetted illegals you can bet your money it's gonna get worse!
In most countries, there is no access to the luggage area , People are also subject to a luggage tag check before exiting the guarded area. It's completely ridiculous that these areas are accessible to just anyone. Also if there were luggage tag checks, former Department of Energy Official Sam Brinton wouldn't have been able to steal Tanzanian fashion designer Asyakhamsin's luggage.
Same in my Country . U don’t have access to baggage except ur a staff or have a valid ticket of arrival . Also there’s an attendant to verify ur bag to ur ticket stub. M surprised a developed country like America doesnt have this . Tot it was the norm in all airports . Sheessshhh😂😂😂
Exactly. My home country is still a developing country but it's international airport has luggage claims before the passenger checkpoints where they check your ticket and passports. So once you get off your flight, you can claim your luggages then head to the checkpoint stations before you're in the general public entrance lobby.
I don't think that's common in most countries but maybe it should be
That Brinton guy is a complete freak. How the hell did he get that job?
NOT A PROBLEM WHEN WE WERE CIVILIZED (mostly white travelled) i am black started working in the industry in the late 60s...when travellers wore hats and gloves...FOREAL
This is so crazy, in my country people that are not arriving from a plane cannot access to bagage claims, so random people showing up at the airport cannot steal anything.
Because you live in a poor country
Do a better job at keeping the homeless out, and include federal charges for stealing luggage.
I doubt security could (or should) be trying to identify homeless persons. Wouldn't it be better to enforce some type of security around the baggage claim areas? Sort of like it USED TO BE. i remember traveling during the 70s, 80s and early 90s.... you couldn't exit the baggage claim area WITHOUT a claim ticket that MATCHED the luggage you were trying to leave with. It seemed to work pretty good.
You can't have a trust system in a society that contains a large number of untrustworthy people.
Years ago, they used to have staff at the baggage carousel to check to make sure your baggage claim ticket matched the tag on your luggage. I guess the airlines now figure it’s cheaper to pay claims to customers whose luggage is stolen than to pay employees.
I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often, but thanks for announcing it to all the potential thieves about how easy it is!! Good work WSB-TV.
Agree!!..ppl think I’m crazy because I always run to baggage claim because I’m afraid of someone coming up stealing my luggage.
Dude literally stole this man's stuff and found a spot to chill at IN THE AIRPORT smh.

Make your bag look unique and they'll leave it alone.
I've seen suitcases with the owner's face postered onto it. But you can just get a can of paint and make a big 'X' on both sides and you can easily identify it on the carousel, or if someone tries to walk off with it... so they'll leave it alone.
I got biohazard stickers on mine.
That trick would work for most everyday people. A homeless dude would just think to himself how weird the bag was as he walks away with it, lol!
@@rnettles6241 you lucky you got 2 even put it on the plane LOL😅
Very wise to use that tracking device, great job!
I remember a time when you could not leave baggage claim with baggage if you didn't have the matching stubs. They actually checked everyone. Not sure how it went if you lost your stubs, as I kept them secure. I assume that you had to somehow prove that the luggage was actually yours once nobody else showed up to collect it with the stubs after a certain period of time. That was also a time when you had to be dressed appropriately to fly, before flying somehow turned into a virtual Greyhound bus ride in the sky.
There used to be a security check point with physical barriers at the baggage claim and you would have to present your ticket and they would match it to the tags on the baggage. I don't fly anymore if I can get there by automobile.
People can literally just go to luggage claim and pick up anyone's luggage. It's wild.
This is something I've always worried about. Most airports' baggage claims seem to have very little security. As others have said, the airlines are making a lot of PROFIT off baggage fees. They need to step up their game in protecting our luggage, and our security in these areas!
Honestly. Your airports are so different to ours in the UK as baggage claim is located airside which mean you cannot get into that area unless you have a ticket and gone pass security. Only way is if another passenger did take the bag. Thankful I have never had any trouble with my luggage when travelling.
The audacity. If it wasn't for those airtags, Jameel would be screwed.
He had $3K of "stuff" in his suitcase? I highly question that as the shirt pretty much proves that pt.

You can be that creep will steal someone else's luggage when given the chance. Kudos to that fellow for being vigilant and putting a tracking device on his luggage. So sad to think it has come to that now.
They should put baggage claim where only passengers have access to it and not the public.
Some airports actually have a checkpoint with a person who verifies that you're only taking bags that you have a claim ticket for. Obviously Atlanta isn't one of those. I normally travel with only a carry-on bag because it's faster and easier. Shipping things may be more expensive but at least you can be more certain they'll get there and on time.
I know it isn't always possible, but I usually get to baggage claim before the bags start rolling out so the instant I see mine I grab it.

I GIVE THIS PASSENGER A LOT OF CREDIT. Luggage, at least to me, is very personal. That is my stuff with my clothes I put on my body. If someone did that to me and I tracked and found him, I would have punched him in the face. Now.... if I found the guy and he was also wearing my clothes, I would probably be kissing my life as I know it a big goodbye because I would probably beat that person until they were a bloody mess and I would most certainly go to jail over it.
Thanks, Atlanta for the journalism and for sharing some of it on YT.
In some airports they used to have security who would match the baggage tags with the luggage at the door before you were allowed to leave. They used to have that at LAX along time ago😊
WSB -- By showing and explaining how easy it is to do this, your reporting has just ensured that more people will now try it, and thefts will increase. Good job.

I remember (back in the day) having to produce a baggage claim ticket in order to exit the baggage claim area (carousel). Why did airports stop doing this? Apparently airports and associated security agencies are EXTREMELY concerned with our bags before and during our trip... but not so much after. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say airports stopped securing carousels because... they don't have to.
I not a frequent flyer, I usually travel by air three times a year (holidays and vacations) but I imagine this is a bigger problem than just this incident. Thankfully I have never had any items stole.Lost, delayed and damaged, YES... stolen NO... but I am going to be installing a tracker on my luggage for my next trip. That should be a suggestion on Trip Advisor
Every time I flew in to ATL airport, I would "Race!" to the baggage claim because after the first trip, I saw this. I was like, "disturbed" that anyone could grab your suit case...They need to change this. Cray cray. LOL!!! Omg!
This is EXACTLY why I never check bags. If I need anything more than a carry-on, I mail my things to myself (a tip I learned from a friend who worked for the airlines). It generally costs less than baggage fees and if you’re staying at a hotel with a concierge, they will have your package sent to your room when you arrive.
I've done that.

Good job young man! I thought you had to show luggage tags/tickets to get out of luggage claim area? Someone is NOT doing their job!!
Nope, once it is off the plane, they dont give a darn, anyone could grab it, no one checks, scans anything, just grab and go
It's never been like that
Add to the insult of finding a thief wearing your clothes stolen from a luggage carousel, he had to pay extra money to check his bag.
No doubt there is a whole industry making a living off this scam
Now we know how baggage gets lost “mysteriously”, despite the ridiculous luggage fees!🙄
The air tags is a good idea. But also put mini key padlocks on your luggages so they don't get opened by whoever is handling them.
Some travelers even wrap tape around their luggages so it'll be easy to tell if the seal has been broken and the luggage has been opened by someone.
Agree.
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for TSA employees intentionally break and discard these locks, because they're too lazy to grab the tsa key to open them to inspect luggage. Common at Tampa Airport. They've even broken built in tsa approved locks, permanently damaging new luggage.
I have to buy multiple tsa locks because of this reason, and carry spare locks.
Still i lock.
I flew every weeks on business years ago and most airports then (20 yrs. ago) had security at all doors matching your luggage tag with the other half stapled to your flight envelope.
I guess that disappeared due to cost but not that alone. They want to complicate air travel so demand will diminish.

Dam, homeless dude thought he came up. Can't believe they can just walk in their.
This is one reason why people have been rushing to the baggage carousels for years especially now that airports are allowing homeless to hang out there.
Something needs to be done about that entrance. In Nigeria, you must produce the stubs stuck on your ticket or passport to leave the arrival area. Aero Contractors have everyone wait airside to identify their luggage. Sometimes delay in luggage being rolled out is good
That's because you guys have stealing problem over there. This is a one time thing
And right now there are a couple of brothers saying “Damn, that would be easy! Let’s hope down to the airport and pick up some new clothes.”

Everything moves too fast at an airport to have someone there making sure you're the person that's on the baggage you're taking. The only thing you can do is push and shove your way off the airplane so you're at baggage claim first!
Good for him, for being smart enough to think ahead, track his luggage, and get the police involved.
If anyone can just walk in and take, they can walk in and leave a device to cause mass mayhem.
The look on his face when he said I have a tracking device in here 😂. I could just see the “f**k”
I’ve been to too many airports around the world you cannot walk outside the airport until you match your tag with your luggage tag
That’s good of him.sometimes we have to take justice in our own hands bc we can.
When exactly did he do that? When he called the cops? You have a flawed basic understanding of how things work.
@jeffl4802 He took justice in to his hands by being smart enough to put a tracking device on his luggage and confront the guy until police got there.
Honestly taking justice in to your own hands is normally the best option because you can't depend on the justice system to give you justice.
Thanks for showing how easy it is or the idea!
This is why my luggage is never checked anymore. I always bring a duffel always within eyesight of me. It also makes it so much easier to go from flight to flight.
I have a normal suitcase without the wheels like all the suitcase now have. Every time I would go to baggage claim to get my bags I would find it had been partially unzipped. The last time I used it the zippers were completely unzipped when I found it on the baggage carousel. It got so bad that I stopped using it, there must of been a sign on it saying "Open me up and steal my stuff."
Thats so true a woman mistakenly took my luggage and I had to push the issue because I had hers so it I knew someone had to have mine(we had the same luggage) we flew on the same airplane. So i asked them to see if they could tell who may have gotten mines and they called her and she checked the tag and it had my info on it. She tried to say “can we bring it tomorrow “ but luckily the workers told her no you have to bring it back now plus I had returned hers to them so they told her that she must bring mine back now. Ppl are just terrible these days im glad he got his stuff back but there should definitely be someone there making sure nobody takes the wrong luggage and/or steals someone’s luggage
