I think us natural girls have to remember ALOT of us were getting perms since we were children, THATS A LONG TIME. We learned so much and became accustom to permed hair. For a lot of us we have only be nautural for a few years.. We're NEW TO THIS> its like getting a new leg, its gonna take a few years to learn to walk again. GIVE IT TIME!!! focus on the POSITIVE! Missing relaxers is like missing drugs, its unhealthy and bad for you. I understand you frustration i went natural in 2009 and Im still learning how to deal with my hair.
Yes! I've been wearing extensions since I was four and wore weave all through high school. I grew up around white people and didn't even know what natural hair was until I was a junior in high school. I've been natural five years now but the first two years were a nightmare. I looked a mess but now it's so much easier.
BriLineFilmEditor i have been natural all my life & i can understand where she is coming from. My natural hair takes forever to wash too, the process is a very long time. I won't ever get use to it to the point it takes a 30minutes to finish. I feel you honey & you are right about that there is little to no videos pertaining to the struggles of natural hair. I always tell people who want to go natural that it's not easy.
I don't get why people are bashing this video?? I find it very helpful because what she is saying true and raw. I am currently transitioning and I am going through all the things she has mention. When you had relax hair for so long you don't expect it to be this hard to take care of your natural hair. I've had relax hair for 10 years and I was so use to just going to the salon and getting perms, & washes. So I can relate to this video, it is very time consuming, & when it gets tangle you get so frustrated.. I am glad she made this video, cause now I don't feel alone in this process. I'm all for natural hair because it is "healthier" but you can't get mad at someone for wanting what they use to have if it was easier to deal with.. anyways, stay strong! Your hair looks nice, & I feel lost right now about understanding what my hair likes. But I know eventually we'll get it. 👍🏾
Right on black queen are people is so hung up on some damn hair it's so much shit going on in the world besides some hair you can't eat no damn hair it's your choice your hair how ever you want to do with it sweety
I feel like people with 4c hair are mostly the ones that want to go back to relaxers. 4c hair is beautiful in my opinion it just needs wayy more tlc than coily or curly hair. that's all. don't do it :/
I have 4c hair and I love my natural hair. I don't know why I was so afraid of going natural before. I am lazy when it comes to my hair and that's just because I have a 9 month old who keeps me busy.
Jahna Trapp I completely agree, it's also the less accepted and showcased in natural hair community, but it's so beautiful and I know plenty of girls with long beautiful 4c hair.
Girl, let go the standard perfect curls people told you you need to follow. Frizzy hair is beautiful too. I promise it will get better once you find the routine that works for you, so don't give up yet. Stay strong sis 💕
it has been the opposite for me. True wash days are a little longer but once I do a style once a week, that style lasts me the whole week. I do not retwist either, I throw a bonnet on and wake up and go. and I do not spend Money on any expensive products either. that's just a way for companies to make money, it's not that serious. I think you are making it harder than what it really is. try stretching your hair after you wash it. it won't shrink up as much and makes the style last.
kikifresh same here lol. It'll be a cold day in Hades before I spend 5+ hrs washing my hair and spending bill money on products. I watch some of these videos and just be like y'all doing way to much for me. My mom permed my hair at an early age and then I started wearing extensions, but my God sisters never had their hair permed and had 4c hair and I don't recall it taking anywhere near as long to do, nor were there a boat load of products. It was hair grease and water. When they did get it straightened for special occasions their hair was super long and healthy and remained that way until extensions and perms started breaking it off. So I don't think that much is really needed outside of making sure it's moisturized, sealed, and protected.
natural hair is not for lazy people.. If you only wanna spend 5 min on your hair get a perm and watch your hair fall out.. natural hair takes dedication, love and care.. its foolish to compare natural hair care to relaxed hair because its two different processes.. one is chemically burning your hair straight which causes easy maintenance.. the other is learning YOU and what comes out of YOUR scalp naturally and requires more tlc.. if you dont cover your hair at night with a scarf or bonnet IT WILL BE MATTED! If you dont thoroughly detangle you hair IT WILL BE TANGLED! If you keep your hair in its afro state IT WILL GET KNOTTED! if you dont keep you hair moisturized IT WILL BE DRY! If you dont balance your protein IT WILL BE WEAK! If you go in to natural hair thinking you're going to breeze through it like permed hair then YOU'RE PROBABLY GOING TO BE MAKING A VIDEO LIKE THIS! i believe if we never were introduced to these perms our culture would not be making such complaints because natural hair care would be a part of our everyday lives.. for all my new naturalistas out there dont let this video stray you away from going natural.. i been natural for yrs and i absolutely love it and look FORWARD to my wash days because i know im giving my hair the care it needs to flourish!.. now, im almost at my hair goal, WAIST LENGTH!!!!.. :) :) :)
Nah. You can't string a bunch of words together with low key jabs & shade, all caps and such - and just throw a few smileys on the end. But you tried it. Everyone has their own journey to travel. Either you're dedicated or you're not, one YT video shouldn't knock you off your goal if you're truly serious. A sister is allowed to struggle with her hair journey now & then.
everyone who uses caps are not angry loves.. im speaking with excitement.. & since when has common sense become "low key jabs"?.. lol only to those who are offended by the truth.. :)
I think it's more because you're focusing on what you didn't have to do with you're relaxed hair instead of focusing on what you need to do for your natural hair. You're frustration is increasing because you're unconsciously trying to do what used to work for your relaxed hair, but doesn't work for you natural hair. Natural hair isn't necessarily harder to deal with, it's just different. You have to discover what works for you personally, whereas a relaxer is pretty much common knowledge. I think what some people don't understand about going natural is that it's starting with a blank slate. Your hair is completely different now from when it was relaxed. It's a process, and it's definitely not easy, but at the end of the day, you should focus on what's best for you and your hair. Natural isn't for everyone, just like relaxed isn't. It's up to you to make that decision.
I agree. It's apples and oranges. We are more accustomed to dealing with relaxed hair. I personally don't find one harder than the other but for some it can be. Been natural twice and this time I am taking the less is more approach. Less products. Less manipulation. Less obsessing over growth which it's going to do regardless.
I agree with all you stated except for "natural isn't for everyone" -it is for everyone it's natural. It's difficult because one never had the chance to experience and learn it as they grew. It's quite unfortunate but I believe more people of the next generation will not have this "problem." We need be careful how we say things. Natural is how we were meant to be.
+MsQueenB2 Exactly. Same here. I recently big chopped again, so I'm also doing my best to better understand my hair and what it likes. Good luck to you. 😁
+Joane Thompson When I said natural isn't for everyone, I was referring to those who find being natural too difficult, or simply just prefer to get a relaxer. Again, there's nothing wrong with it, that's just how it is.
It's really not but I do have room to talk because I've been natural all my life so I knew some things before I actually started taking care of it and now it's growing! 😊. Lol but yeah I agree it's a learning process you just have to know what works for you
Me too. And it is growing. I am a lazy, minimalist natural (three products: shampoo and conditioner and deep conditioner). 10 or less minute in shower and 10 or less minute styling. Some people are trying to mimic RUclipsrs-get the bits you need and move on. I REFUSE to spend 6 or more dollar on a hair product. Again, my hair is growing!
Google porosity test. Your literally just putting a strand of hair in water. Porosity is very important in building a regimen that will work for your hair. Also styles that stretch the hair prevent single strands knots ( twist outs and braid outs) . Natural hair is definitely more maintenance if you make it . Wash days of course are longer but I gravitate toward styles that last at least a week or more. Thats 7 days or more of not combing through my hair. I hope this helps Sis . Either way your gorgeous with natural or relaxed hair
But arent most people normal or low with natural hair so she could skip it and just try techniques such as warming products or warming her hair with warm water before putting products, washing regularly and so on
I was natural for four years and recently textlaxed my hair. It was the BEST hair decision I made. It's now raiser for me to take care of my hair daily because the process is shorter and my protective styles( Bantu knots, twist outs, etc.) last longer. I hate that we base our beauty and what we should do with our based on what others think. Do you boo whatever you do.❤️
gigglyfitzgirl Not necessarily, she might just be mad tenderheaded. She's used to relaxers so, feeling some minor kinks probably feels amplified on her scalp. Also, I've heard that using relaxers for years can cause some people to have scalp sensitivity for years after they stop using them.
gigglyfitzgirl I agree, she might be strangling while her hair is dry which is a BIG mistake. If you detangle in the shower while it's wet/finger detangle it's WAY EASIER.
gigglyfitzgirl she's not necessarily doing anything wrong, in my family many girls are tender headed...myself included. my sister used to say my mom is using a rake in her hair. i ended up styling my own hair since i was 9. one of my daughters even at 12 would scream and holler at how hard I'm combing her hair...my neices bawl...yep, tender head is a struggle.
To everyone laughing at this comment, which by the way I don't think it's that amusing. When I say "he won't let me do it" I mean he knows I'm indecisive so if I go back relaxed I'll just complain and want to go back natural. BUT how many people can say they have a supporting HUSBAND like I do. I'll wait ☺️
Ashley Thompson I'm mostly laughing at the "girl, bye!" part. For some reason I find that phrase so hilarious. 😂😂 I don't mean any harm. Don't let these comments get to you. Relaxed, natural, etc do whatever you want, it's your hair. 💙 And yes it's nice that you have a husband that's supportive of your natural hair journey.
Just came across your video and I completely agree. For me I considered going back to a relaxer not because I have some hate for my natural hair but because it was less expensive and less time consuming. It had nothing to do with being lazy as someone has suggested in the comments (which was rude because she in essence called you lazy). Some people live very very busy lives and its all about convenience and time management. It has also been far more expensive for me to maintain my natural hair than it ever was when I was relaxed. I actually relaxed and trimmed my own hair so I didn't have a major expense. Now, with even the minimal products i use it still comes out to much more than I ever spent on my relaxed hair. I also want to point out that my hair was near waist length when i had a relaxer and everyone always complimented me on how pretty and healthy my hair was so I think it's all in how you take care of your hair be it natural or relaxed. Contrary to a certain commentator's views, everyone with a relaxer is not destined to have all their hair fall out of their head. When it's all said and done, you have to do what's best for you, your hair and lifestyle. If you want to stay natural, that's great but if you decide to go back to relaxers that's no one's business but yours. People need to stop trying to shame people and make them feel bad for their decisions to do what they want with their hair. Best of luck on your natural hair journey and please do an update video. Sorry for the long post :)
Co wash every day. Then pineapple it. It'll get trained like when u wrapped a relaxer. Get pure olive oil. That's a cheap product that you can buy a lot of at once ( unlike other small bottles of oil) . I even started using conditioner for white folks as a leave in because it's cheaper (Aussie Moist). If I don't wear natural looking extensions I wear a huge bun. Ends are hidden & it looks professional. A bun maker helps make a nice donut shaped bun. I like your honesty . I feel you.
I am not a rude person AT ALL but some of you all with your comments thinking that you know what I meant by this video or assuming that I'm in happy with my hair texture is just starting to annoy the crap out of me. I will like it for you to just keep your comments to yourself at this point idc what you have to say or what you think I need to do.
hi Ashley Thompson, If you want to go back to straight hair I recommend a Japanese straightening/ thermal reconditioning system!! I got this after being natural for 15+ years and my hair is straight long & healthy. DO NOT GO BACK TO RELAXERS. My hair has never been this length and my hair actually looks healthier than it did when I was natural.
also it's not the keratin treatment, do not let them talk you into that, it's a totally different system. Thermal reconditioning is permanent and keratin treatments aren't (and look raggedy after a few weeks). Also don't let these fools get you down. Every style ain't for everybody. You gotta do what works best for you, makes you happy and makes you feel beautiful.
Good for you, finally an honest opinion regarding natural hair. I hate naturals who bash women who'd rather care for healthy relaxed than struggle with natural hair. Stay strong and encouraged during your natural hair journey. At the end of the day it's your hair and relaxing it doesn't make you lazy or any less of a woman. I personally have better more important things to do like enjoying my kids instead of spending all day playing with my hair. Oh, and by the way...I have natural hair but believe me if I had to spend all day taking care of my hair I wouldn't hesitate to relax it.
I'm sure you're getting the hang of it now. I was the same way when I went natural. I just stuck with it. if a product doesn't work for me, I take it back. most places will do that. keep on keepin on girlfriend, you will get the hang of it. your hair is beautiful.
I think a lot of us understand what you are experiencing. I was relaxed and colored since 15 and now I'm natural after transitioning for a year. Now it GREY! Lol. Talk about an eye opening! Grey hair has it's own set of challenges. That's why I have a whole channel dedicated to natural grey hair! . 😳. You have to do what works for you, and it doesn't have to be expensive. I have a price point that I refuse to cross. There are too many products on the market for me to buy into a "name". But it takes time and patience.
In the beginning it definitely is a struggle even I had doubt's and wanted to give up, however you do start to learn your hair and it gets way easier. Natural hair is only as expensive as you make it, you really don't need as many products as people on RUclips make it seem like you need. All I use is a cheap conditioner (Aussie Moist) to help detangle my hair, to deep condition I use coconut milk mixed with any cheap deep conditioner and mix in some oils (Olive oil) and then I do a braidout(8 braids) and rise out the deep conditioner I do a braidout on hair full of conditioner bc this is when my hair is stretched and will make for a better braidout. afterwards I rinse out the conditioner. Next I put oil on my braids then put my leave in conditioner on top and call it a day. my braidouts lasts for a week.
When women say that relaxers cause their hair to fall out, it's because, they didn't follow the instructions, they either left the perm on way past the 20 minute mark or they didn't wash their hair throughly or they over lapped their perms by getting another to soon or using the wrong strength for their hair type. Honestly, I'm confused by this natural hair vs straight hair, it's completely ridiculous and a big to do about nothing, why do people feel the need to tell women how they should wear their hair? if you want to wear your hair unprocessed so be it, if you choose to wear your hair straight, so be it, why has hair of all things, caused so much tension within the black community is beyond me.
The first part of your comment is simply not true for everyone who experiences hair loss from relaxers. It is extremely shortsighted to say that if relaxers caused someone to lose their hair, it's because they didn't follow the instructions. Some people's hair simply cannot tolerate those harsh toxic chemicals. Even the so-called "mild" relaxers are too harsh for some people's hair and scalp. I've been natural for over 20 years, long before it became the trend that it is now. To understand why natural vs. straight hair causes so much tension (at least in the US), you must understand the history of how kinky/tightly coiled hair has been perceived in this country. People love to say "it's just hair," but as long as you still have Black women being told that their kinky natural hair is not "professional," and Black girls facing suspension or expulsion from school for wearing their natural hair out, then it will never be "just hair." Conscious people understand that it runs much deeper than that.
NewLifeGratitude The box of relaxer states, that you should test a strand of you hair first, before applying the entire relaxer to your head, I guarantee you, that 99% of the females don't do that. White kids have been suspended from school because of their hair styles as well.
Pretty Boss TV it's the same with me. With relaxers in 8 months to a year my hair goes into a ponytail but now I'm natural and it's almost a year my back hair is short af! To wear a bun I have to gel it down. I might just get a perm tbh and I cut my hair like every 2-3 years as I get bored quickly so it doesn't matter
Let's be real. The vast majority of RUclips "naturals" have hair in the 3 category, which is far easier to style and detangle. Personally, I only spend a lot of money on conditioner (Nexxus). As far as moisturizing, I stick to all natural, raw, pure, coconut oil, shea butter, and a tiny bit of bees wax. Don't give up. You're gorgeous and your hair looks GREAT.
Your Boo's Boo ....... you have hit the head on the nail....... Most of them are in the 3 category..... Al lot of them from Dominican Republic and other ancestries where type 4c isn’t the norm..... I understand how this lady feels about her hair i have been natural for 2 years now.... and the only reason why I haven’t gone back to relaxer is that it’s cheaper and I don’t have to wait hours getting my hair done and I do so hate being under the hair dryer. That said .......my hair grew a lot faster relaxed than natural and not because it was stretched out either.. These ladies are very young so can chop and change as they please. But oh yes the majority of them saying that they grew their hair from scratch past their shoulder sin 3 years.....That is not 4 C hair......
I think it depends on the texture, and what you do to your hair, which will determine how manageable it is. When my hair is straight, its bra strap length. Curly, chin length, maybe a little longer. My hair is very thick, and its between a curly and frizzy/poofy kind of texture. I notice when I stay on my deep conditioning, my moisturizing, my leave in, my hair becomes SO MUCH MORE MANAGEABLE. When I don't do any of that for awhile, my hair becomes insane. But when I do....Wash day, is about 2 hours. I put them in twists, that are easy and versatile enough to where if I need to leave, I can just pull them up into a basket weave bun and it looks cute. If I do a twist out, the twist outs last for 2-3 days, and even when the waves are frizzing up, my hair is still soft enough and shiny enough, it still looks OK. Also, another thing I noticed when I keep up with the moisturizing, my edges and my baby hair, start to lay automatically. You just gotta understand your hair. A lot of people have never seen their natural hair, and so when faced with taking care of it, they get scared, they get impatient. Its a journey. A journey in finding out whats best for YOUR hair. Do what IT needs, not do what you want it to do. And be proud in your texture! For the first time last week, I went out on a date with curly hair. I usually straighten it, because I don't feel "hot enough" when I have curly. But this time, I was just like, fuck it. If things work out, he's going to see my curly hair eventually. You just gotta play with it, work with it. Its all a process. No one said healthy hair was going to be easy.
Natural hair is trial and error. I big chop after 2years and it has definitely been a journey for me. You just have to be patient. Learn your hair. You will have a lot of trial and error (knowing what products work on your hair and what doesn't). On days where my hair is unmanageable, I just wear a wig. I braid my hair underneath, put on a stocking cap, and then my wig. Trust me, it'll get better. Just be patient. Much love to you.
Ok I've been natural for almost 4 years now my hair texture is also 4c so I understand where she is coming from but for those who want to be natural go for it. Yes you have to put in work to maintain healthy hair and good length but it's worth it. I just now found products that work for me a few months ago and thats ok natural hair is trail and error you have to do research and take time out to care for it being natural doesn't automatically make hair grow. Yes you will probably go through that phase where you feel as if your hair is not growing or that you are embarrassed about wearing your natural hair out. I've been there I understand but give you hair time. I wouldn't recommend anybody going natural if you aren't willing to take care of your hair. Yes it is her hair and she should do whatever she wants with it. I stopped getting perms my freshman year of high school. I went through this phase where I wanted to perm and straighten my hair, but instead I did research and I'm so glad I did. I can't stress how much protective styles have aided my natural hair growth but I hope you stay natural if not that's ok too we are all beautiful black women✊🏽
this is very real and extremely informative. I just wanna say thank you for being straight up. I am lazy low maintenance, jeans and a hoodie to go out, sweat pants and a few to stay in. I don't comb my hair until I have to go to work, and I only style it when I feel like it and that's not often. my style is a wet-set a/ magnetic rollers, air-dried for 4-24hours depending on the motivation that day. I thought going natural would allow me to be even lower maintenance. I had a hair dresser who was putting in my relaxer, (my hair is fairly long. I don't even trim my ends but maybe once a year). my hair dresser is natural and reveled in how long my hair was and discussed her hair length goals. I expressed the curiosity of going natural and she discouraged it, but didn't elaborate. thank you for elaborating. I only perm every 6-8mos. when my new growth gets really long, is when I start the roller sets, really just to hide the new growth and continue not combing my hair. the key to my long hair, ignore it. yes wash, deep condition, moisturize, but not religiously. I just ignore it. no poney tails. NO HEAT. the most expensive product I buy is MOTIONS MARULA oil, because it's only sold on Amazon at a crazy Mark up, and I buy it in bulk. I realize, I'm too lazy to natural
I think you just have to learn your hair more, like you said you don't know what products work for you, you don't know what your porosity is, you dibt know your hair type, etc. I get so sad when I see this because this is our hair guys, our hair isn't meant to be straight and flat, if relaxers never existed we wouldn't have to compare our hair to anything, we would just love our natural hair because that's all we would've known.
I had a relaxer for 40/45 years of my life. Natural hair life is more work but you don't worry about chemicals. It is unfortunate that many people don't show the true lifestyle change with natural hair. If my stylist told me to stay natural that means a lot.
Black in whatever texture requires a lot of tlc if it has to be healthy. Secondly everyone has a right rant or get excited about their own experiences and indeed our personal are different. I don't believe anyone with a RUclips channel about hhj is required to become a natural hair or relaxed hair ambassador. Each of us is allowed to expess our feelings or opinions even if they're contrary to the promotion of any particular hair texture. Happy hair healthy growing!
I think it is when you're new to it. It takes time to figure out what works for your hair and how to manage it. I do however, think that it's sad that black women have been so conditioned to desire a different hair texture, whether it be from a relaxer or a weave, and when we open our eyes to see how beautiful our NATURAL hair is, it's a chore and we don't know how to care for it. That was me too. LOL But practice makes perfect!
Lisa Johnson I completely agree with you. I think it's sad too. It can be expensive at first and that should be a given. You're doing something new so of course. I find that transitioning is more difficult to deal with. I just did the big chop. Keeping the damaged chemical treated hair will slow you down. But if your hair is short in the beginning it shouldn't be too much work at all
THANK YOU for sharing this!!! I'm 23 months along and fresh out of 'underbraids' & wigs! Cried the whole 6 hrs it took to tend to my hair so I feel you! Going to watch your follow up vid now.
Thank you for your honesty! I'm on a 6 month stretch aiming for one year. And I've considered going natural.it's really hard to want to go 100% natural when you work 50 to 60 hours week, maintaining a household, etc. etc. it's nice to see someone on RUclips mention how difficult it is to be natural and not just showing you a quick tutorial and in result.
It is hard to work with I like kinky hair it's beautiful I'm black dominacan I have long hair like my father I try to get my hair kinky it won't work it will get curly but falls back strait so fycj it I tried hair don't makes a person any way I can't eat no damn hair lol
Only comb your hair when wet and preferably after putting a cream based leave-in in. This will make it easier to comb through, less breakage and will detangle your hair all at once!
Honestly, you don't have to do all that. I do not take a day to wash my hair. I don't do all those time-consuming styles. All you need is a leave in, moisturiser and oil. Curl type doesn't matter. Porosity is more important. All you have to do is the cup test to find that out. I'm natural with a busy life I just don't have time for the twist and braids I feel you. You really don't even need an expensive conditioner. I went back to drugstore conditioners because I use tooo much to spend 20$ on conditioner. All you need is moisture.
I maintain my hair with mini twist. Though it takes me about 3 or 4 hours Sunday evening, I don't have to worry about it for 2 weeks. You can exercise in them, you can shower in them and you can style them. All you have to do is spray them with leave in every couple of days.
I agree 100%, I too miss my perms - being natural can become difficult at times but I can say my hair has never been so healthy I'm trying my best not to go back, thank God for all our Beautiful Natural Sistas out there to help us to get through, back in the day I rocked a "bush" but the hair products was nothing compared to what you can use today. Stay Strong Blessed and Beautiful.
EVERYTHING she talked about in this video I experienced with my natural hair! And I'm glad someone made a video about it, instead of trying to make it seem like this journey is a walk in the park because it's not. I'm not going to relax my hair because I believe relaxers are bad for the body but Damn this ain't easy especially those 2 strand knots ugh.
Thank you so much for making this video. It feels so good to know I'm not the only one feeling this way. I'm super lazy and I do absolutely nothing with my hair it's a matted mess. I'm considering putting a relaxer but I'm pregnant now so I think I have to wait a bit.
+Miss Pinkapples (Misspinkapples) Oh yes definitely wait until after the pregnancy, but yes I'm on the edge of getting a relaxer it's so frustrating to deal with sometimes!
I know this video is old but never ask a bunch of strangers for an opinion.Go to a few trusted friends or even people whose hair you admire and tell them about your struggles and feelings.Trust me, they will be less critical and will give you great advice!
I've been natural 6 years now and I think its the plethora of info out there that overwhelms some of you. My advice; forget curl pattern and find out your porosity cuz once you do maintenance will be golden. Don't study what others are doing with their hair that will be your biggest mistake, trying to get the curl next door is one of the most time consuming and costly mistakes a lot of naturals make. I work with my hair and not against it, wash day only takes me 1 hour tops and I have waist length hair. Don't feel bad about your frustration but also dont overthink it, break some of those natural hair rules cuz i did and let me tell you natural hair is cheap cheap cheap for me! I spend so little time and money on my hair and it has flourished.
I don't really have a routine, I just go with whatever my hair needs, I wash my hair once a week sometimes if my hair is in twists or flat ironed I will do it once every two weeks. My wash day is simple I dont pre poo because my hair already usually have oils/butters on it from styling. I shampoo with diluted black soap and condition with vo5 or tresemme conditioner whichever I have on hand then style. If i'm deep conditioning that week I just shampoo and deep condition right after, my fave right now is the shea moisture high porosity deep conditioner. After washing I just spray my hair with aloe vera juice and water, seal it in with whipped shea butter and style in a bun, twists whatever I feel like or have time to do. If I do a wash n go I just use Eco Styler gel with some lotta body moisturizer under it. Thats it. Those are all the products in my arsenal, very minimal and nothing is expensiv; black soap, aloe vera juice, a rinse out conditioner, a deep conditioner, shea butter, eco styler gel.
trinigyul thank you!! when i first went natural I was always doing what these hair ladies were doing and it was costing me a fortune, and that's money that I don't have cuz I'm still a student, but then one day when I went to buy products I just got so sick of the time consumption and money and rather than go for all those expensive products I picked up some simple olive oil products like I used to use and now my hair is doing better than it was with all those expensive and pointless products
(@Ant rip) was that a joke? her whole post basically says "stop chasing the curl next door" & the first thing you ask for is her routine?? *deep eye roll* smh
I completely understand. Yesterday made two years since I shaved all of my hair off and went natural. Yesterday was also the day that I got my hair relaxed. My hair is 4a around the circumference and it transitions to 4b then 4c in the middle. I'm done! Done with being natural-- the middle of my hair is filled with knots and it's breaking apart. I'm currently getting a wash and set. Thanks for your honesty- natural hair isn't for everyone. I'm also tired of looking like my hair isn't combed because it hurts so much to comb it. I started putting my hair up without combing the middle because it was too much work.
Buy some raw shea butter and make your own moisturizer and create your own growth oil. Use regular conditioner and make your own deep conditioner. It does not have to be expensive. It does not have to be painful. You need to take time and stop watching so much RUclips videos and learn your hear for yourself!!!! And if you still are frustrated with your hair then put it in a protective style like braids.
I spray my hair with water, massage my scalp and use light oils from the grocery that have no smell. My 4b hair is soft and doing fine. Sometimes on the ends, I use Burt's Bees hand cream and also massage my scalp with it. That's all.
...........Just a tip regarding the products. Read the ingredients on the products and get to know what each ingredient is supposed to do (Google !!!!) Many of these products are composed of the same stuff so it's not necessary to buy different bottles and sprays, paying a lot of money, for virtually the "same" product. Fancy names, different fragrances, advertising are just marketing ploys for very similar products. The first ingredient is usually water with a little bit of this and little bit of that. Folks will go through a little bit of trial and error but once you find products that suit your hair, then stick to them...........IMHO
When I saw the title I was like, o boy, bros are gonna come for her for this one. And sure enough. Hi honey. I'm a semi new natural, and up until last week, I was considering getting relaxers too. But then I gave this fro one last chance: watched some RUclips videos, styled it, wrapped it, went to sleep, and GIRL. It gets better, I promise. I'm sure it has for you, as this video was posted a while back, but I really really want to encourage you to hold on. You have absolutely gorgeous curls. Stunning. But if you want to get relaxers, go get em tiger! Let no one tell you what the fuck you should do with your hair, because it is *your* hair. It's your struggle, not anyone else's. My best friend has her hair texlaxed, and trust me when I say it's so shiny and so full, so beautiful, and it IS healthy. You do YOU.
I was natural the first time for 4 years, and and permed and cut my hair into a pixie cut. I’m back natural again. This year will make two years. At the end of the year, I’m relaxing it again and cutting it into a cut short deep part bob! I’m so over this “natural hair”.. I’m straight on it.
Gotta know your porosity it help A LOT! You can find $5 products that work for you if you know your porosity. I hope it gets better or has gotten better for you. I love my natural hair! I hate that you've been struggling. Don't give up you'll find what works for you!
hello! how is it going! have you tried looking at other 4c naturals with easier regimens? I dont think 4c hair should go more than a few days without combing, otherwise it is very time consuming. I wash, condition and style my hair every day while in the shower (I go to the swimming pool) and it takes me about 10 minutes including the shower, then I again, I only do wash and gos. I am too lazy for twists, braids etc. I tried this of washing my hair once per week, but the combing/detangling becomes a nightmare. (And ended up putting a relaxer on my hair and regretting, twice). Now that I discovered this about combing my hair everyday or almost everyday, my hair is not a burden any more. Sorry you have to experience such frustration. I can see the video is from a while ago, I hope it is better now.
My jar cost 6.99 and I have curls past shoulder length. The most thing your hair needs is a spray bottle with water. I even stretch my products by putting in some in my spray bottle with the water. Drink lots of water too. Cut out on high fructose corn syrup from your foods. Check your juice labels cannot stress this enough. My morning routines are spray bottle, leave in conditioner (mostly on ends), finger detangle, and soft brush. Then to style it I just bun it as a protective style. Dont leave your ends out. Thats really important. If you are in a hot climate like the Caribbean. Keeping your spray bottle with you at all times is a must.
i used to hate wash days too, because it took forever to wash, but i came upon this youtubers video, efficiently natural. She has 4c hair and her hair is super long. She washes her hair in loose twists and it really cuts down wash time. I'm so glad i found her video's because she offers great tips. You should check her out
lollll enjoy that thinned hair thennn slowly but surely....plus hair clups coming out, having to wrap it up all the tx or hot comb it, curling iron it for it to lay dwn...
Being natural is overrated and not even all that. I regretted it too and I started watching healthy relaxed hair girls with beautiful healthy long hair. I am happy I went back to texturising again. My hair is healthy and beautiful. It was brittle extra dry and broke so bad when it was natural.
appreciate the honesty queen . I think you should do whatever you want. I have been natural ALLLLLLL my life but im over it lol im in between locs and a relaxer diversity is beautiful hmmmmmm
HI Ashley! I too have felt like you and wanted to go back to a relaxer, but I kept saying to myself "there's just too many others who are doing this, why can't I?" So I am now 1 year post relaxer, I did not do a big chop. Instead I trimmed the relaxer out monthly. Now I'm totally free of all relaxer. To make it easier on detangling while transitioning, I found that #1-Using a Sulphate free shampoo, is vital. Something about this type of shampoo just totally detangled my coily 4b/c hair and still does. #2-Part your hair into 4-6 sections BEFORE you wash it and band them each. I washed my hair in those sections for the first 4-5 months. Conditioning is very important as well, leave it on as long as you can, 30 mins to an hour if you have the time. I keep my hair moist daily with a spray bottle mix of Cantu leave-in conditioner, coconut oil (nourishing), avocado oil (elasticity). I put on a cute wig alot of times when I'm wanting a certain "look". But keeping your hair moisturized and trimming the ends can definitely help with your tangles. #3-Protein treatments allowed me to really see my curls. I do it every other month. Now, I love seeing what my curls do. Its fun to me now! Best of luck hun!
I swear type 4 naturals complain about everything. Your hair is beautiful! If you don't feel attractive being natural, then maybe the issue isn't your hair. Plus, being natural doesn't have to be expensive. Black women spend hundreds of dollars on weave, but can't spend twenty dollars on good conditioner? Girl bye.
I can totally see where your coming from. I've been natural for a bit over a year now. Products are pricey and it takes time to style natural hair. But, there are trade offs for both natural and relaxed hair. I personally think that natural hair is worth the effort because my hair is SOO healthy now and the styles I do look very cute on me. I love getting complements on my hair. I never used to with my relaxed hair. I currently have a protective style right now but I cannot tell you how much I miss the feel of my natural hair. Honestly, the key to be a naturalist is RUclips. I watch videos all the time for tips and products to use. I also simply google a lot of things too. I hope this helps
I live in Japan and getting products will sacrifice my pockets. So I am left to use oils and shea butter mixes as well as DIY protein treatments. My hair has been pretty happy!
if its too too much for u- jus go get a relaxer. its not that big of a deal... and a bf tellin u anything about yur hair choices is a no no... my opinion, that shud b a husband privilege only.
I went natural because I was bullied by a new stylist I was using. Needless to say I went back to my old stylist and I have healthy relaxed hair! It's your hair do what you want with it! Don't like anybody tell you what to do with YOUR HAIR!
You must determine your hair type before purchasing products. Shea moisture products are the best and price is great! Walgreens has bogo sales so stock up. Water is your best friend always gentle wet your hair before trying to comb it. Use Shea butter, coconut oil , etc. to seal in moisture nightly or as needed. Find RUclips videos that show you how to determine hair type you look 4b/4c. I currently use the Shea Moisture Black castor oil line along with the curl enhancing smoothies/curl soufflé gel. Don't give up your hair is beautiful!😊😀
you really spoke my mind in this video lady. im natural and im thinking of going back relaxed. one thing i dont like is how all other natural women are reacting to this . . .'oh natural hair is not that hard, you just arent trying enough' or 'i go to sleep without much work and it still comes out fine,' or 'you expect it to behave like relaxed hair thats y u are having troubles' honestly, every hair is different, and so is everyone. natural hair is harder to maintain period. and me choosing to do that which is easier for me should not be a crime. i know i love the curls of natural hair, but it doesnt always look god, sometimes i look crazy and unkempt. i dont look professional or neat. i look haggard. hair is supposed to be our beauty, not something you keep explaining to people that 'oh thats just the style' my whole life isnt supposed to centre around my hair and me being natural..thats what happens. sigh..cant say all that is on my mind but no one should be judged for wanting to go relaxed.
Carletta Williams. LMFAO!!! Real shit. 😄😂 Them relaxers with burn that shit right out along with the follicles. Hair problems will be a thing of the past.
Bullshit. I have been relaxed all my life, and my hair is thick and down my back. People like you don't know what the hell you are talking about. Didnt know how to take care of relaxed hair yourself so you assumed that relaxed hair cannot be thick and healthy. Have a seat. BOTH can be healthy when taken care of and BOTH can be come unhealthy with not.
Hi. I'm going on 5 years natural. It took me about 2 years to get to know my hair and love it's natural textured state. Don't give up EVER and like you said this takes patience, trial and error. Once you got your regime down packed you won't spend lots of money or time on your hair anymore. I do it once a week and it takes over 2 hours from washing styling to drying. I commend u for the no relaxer :) try flexirods curlformers, curling wand on natural combed out hair, Bantu knots, or perm rods. GOOD LUCK!!!
You're still in the awkward boring phase. It's not short., but it's not long. Not much to do but wear it back. But I promise you the longer your hair get the more fun it will be. We all been there. Don't give up. Try not to overthink it. Take your vitamins and get through this phase as quickly as you can.
I feel exactly the same way. Natural hair is time consuming and I have things to do other than being held hostage by a hair regimen. On top of all that hair products are super expensive and my hair takes a lot of product. Feel how you feel and don't let anyone shame for feelings. Wanting something to be easier isn't lazy, the world we live in is all about CONVENIENCE.
Try Giovanni Smooth as Silk conditioner it is awesome for detangling and is under $10. Detangling is the hardest part of natural hair. However, if you have the right conditioner, it's a breeze. I have thick coarse kinky, curly hair and I love Giovanni and have no problem detangling. Don't give up! Once you learn what works in your hair, it becomes easy to care for it. Look for 1 thing at a time. What I mean is, find a conditioner that works for you, then search for the right shampoo, then a moisturizer, etc. That way you are not overwhelmed. Hope this helps, happy natural hair journey!
I have NEVER commented before on a video but I truly appreciate your struggle. Always use1 leave in first then 2 moisturizing oil then 3 seal oil then 4 a curl lotion. The snotty type like argan oil moisture and shine curl activator crème works well. Night time part hair down middle put two cornrows one each side. Eventually the moisture and softness will increase.
Stop over thinking about hair type when it comes to your type of wave, curly. Focus on your porosity and density and type of strands.. Example: I'm low porosity and medium porosity (yes u can have more than 1), medium density with fine strands. The curl type to honestly doesn't matter. My friend is considered a 4a/4b and I would be considered a 3c/4a and our hair type with porosity and density is the same so guess what we can share products and it works fine. As far as detangling goes try using an oil before shampooing. I just use extra virgin olive oil Walmart brand, I heated it up and leave on my hair for about 10mins, then detangle. I don't think it should take all day to do your hair. At the most it takes me 2 hours and that's if I'm taking breaks.. if you have the moisture protein balance your hair needs it's a breeze. I got lucky however because my mom is a licensed cosmetologist
the great thing about natural is versatility! straight hair is still an option. consider heat training. some people are against it and see it as damage but i've found that type 4 hair is a lot more resilient and forgiving when it comes to heat tools. even if you don't leap from the puff to a silky dominican blowout, consider trying your braid outs on blow dried hair. Sometimes a good stretch makes all the difference. your hair seems pretty thick (much like mine) so i'd suggest parting into 6 sections to detangle and blow dry instead of the standard 4. I've also started using the conditioner from Beautiful Textures Naturally Straight Texture Manageability System. Using the entire kit for every wash is a bit much and may result in heat damage over time but the conditioner alone makes a HUGE difference on wash days. I understand the struggle but if you're committed, you can make it work. Best of luck!
It's hard to watch videos like this about how natural hair is so hard to manage. Natural Hair does not like laziness. If you are lazy then natural hair is not for you. The first thing you need to ask yourself is do I LOVE MY HAIR. Cause when you love your natural hair then nothing bothers you when it come to taking care of it. One day a week is not a big deal like you are saying. You really need to figure out what you wanna do cause as long as you keep thinking about your relax days your not gonna fully take the time to get to know your hair. My channel is mainly all about PROTECTIVE STYLING, if you want stop by. I have all different type of styles that maybe you can try to do, just to help you out alittle. Good Luck.
I think it depends on your hair type. I have 3c hair with some 4a, and let me tell you im the laziest person ever when it comes to hair. I only use shampoo (dove or sunsilk) and conditioner (herbal essence) and any light oil like olive oil, thats it. I wash my hair twice a week with shampoo cause its too hot where I live. Got my first and only relaxer two years ago and my natural hair has grown 16 inches since then..
I sincerely think it comes down to how we were program to view our hair. We can have lazy hair days, we can go without taking care of our hair here and there, ans so on and so forth. I have 4c hair, ziggly and kinky puff that is pretty thin but since 2012 I have been focusing so much on wanting my hair to become longer with taking care of my body as well. Going back to being natural (I hate the word becoming natural when women with relaxers have to get their roots touched up its there natural hair coming to ring a bell) is understanding that you've never dealt with your hair ever and will be confused at the start, It comes to understanding what you hair likes and dislikes, It is finding people who have similar hair texture and getting advice but taking it in little by little because hair has to become accustomed to routine so that it can start building stronger and healthier. I have always been fascinated with my texture because it is so weird and does its own thing sometimes, I have literally probably a few more years of love to make up for when it comes down to my hair and making it stronger, but giving up and framing it as if something that is naturally on your head is just too much for you to handle without having patience sends the message to those inspired by natural hair enthusiast on youtube or blogs that it is not worth working for. Sorry this was lengthy!
If you are going through a rough patch with your hair put a protective style in, for example, kinky twists. And a tip for wash day is that if you're deep conditioning, you don't need to condition. Best way to get to know your hair is to finger detangle.
I literally lol'd when I read this. I wish we would stop measuring our beauty and what we want to do with our hair based on what others feel what we should do. Do you boo all day!
I'm a natural newbee and I did the big chop. My hair has never been this short, but my hair is more manageable now than before. It's all in the products. I mix and match product lines. I am enjoying the change but I have to say it has been trial and error. Good luck with your natural hair journey.
+MultiBabydoll1234 Yes my relaxed hair was healthy as well, I just wanted something different since I've been relaxed since I was a little girl. I don't see why people make it a big deal it's great to be back and have that choice to do different things with our hair!
+Tati White But it's not what you say, it's how you say it. That's where the problem start. Some of these natural nazi need to really get their life, they steadily "attempting" to drag somebody! If everybody would have a better approach or simply just mind their own business, life would be great!
I just braid my natural hair without extensions and keep it in for about a month or so. It's my go to protective hairstyle, plus you can still shampoo and condition it with the braids in. You don't have to spend much on hair products, I find it ridiculous the amount of product naturalistas buy and keep on the shelf. I basically use shampoo and conditioner. I make my own deep conditioner with egg yolk and oil, sometimes I may use a leave in conditioner and my oil and Shea butter and that's it.
Use oilve oil and your fingers to detangle, the olive oil makes tangles melt away, i also think that the longer your hair gets your coils stretch and make detangling easier, you dont need to use those expensive products, keep it simple!!!
For me, having a "go to" style helped tremendously. For summer that is currently a twist out. I co-wash (any cheap conditioner, currently Aussie Moist) detangle with a wide toothed comb and twist my hair in roughly 1 inch (or 2.5 cm) sections once a week using (any cheap) leave in conditioner, currently "Garnier Fructis sleek and shine" and Eco Styler Argan oil gel) I wear my twists for a day or two. For the next few days I unravel the twists and wear a twist-out, separating only a little and then fluffing and unraveling more as the days go on. Depending on how frizzy it may get, I re moisturize by spritzing with water and a little oil on my fingertips, then re-twist at night in large sections (maybe 10 or 12 for my whole head) then wear in a twist out the next day/s. I do not sleep in a satin bonnet or any scarf because I sweat in my scalp and don't like anything on my head at night. My hair does not become matted. It is soft and fluffy and full and no relaxer can give you that. I just wear a loose high puff to sleep (Or pineapple) or I leave it be. Easy peasy. As your hair grows and gains length your "go to" style may change and that's ok. Its just hair. The frustration you feel is normal. Its just part of the learning process. Hang in there. You are gorgeous with your natural hair.
Bentonite and rhassoul clays can speed up your wash days. Using a shower comb when using a rinse out or leave in conditioner helps with detangling after rinsing out the clays. Hooded steamers help boost the moisture of your deep conditioners and hand held steamers help with detangling when changing styles between wash days. Tgin is a natural product line that's in the mid price range with a really simple product line. I love their deep conditioner, twisting cream and curl bomb gel. I hope it helps 🤗.
Just because YOU miss your relaxers does not mean that other naturals only show the "easy" side of not chemically altering their hair. Those woman GENUINELY love their natural hair. It annoys me so much for people to talk for others.
Bubblezlolx ... You've got to be kidding me, right? So you're going to sit there and say, "but YOU brought your unwanted opinion to HER channel," and say that isn't an opinion? Girl... A statement is exactly that, a statement. It is an official account for facts, views and/or plans. So to make it easier for you, your statement can be and WAS an opinion. 😂 You objectified that my comment was unwanted, which is an OPINION. How do you know whether or not my statement was wanted? 😂 Lemme stand up so you can take this seat. I'm done though, because that was sadly comical. For you to think a statement can't be an opinion is stupid. XD Which is why one could say, "I STATED (root word) that she was ugly." What is that? An opinion. Exactly. 😂😂 I'm so done. I don't argue with idiots.
Bubblezlolx You stated that you said a statement and not an opinion, and what you said was an opinion. No way around that. Plain and simple. You assume because she didn't ask for comments that all are unwanted? It doesn't work that way. 😂 So once again... Fail. ✌💀
I agree with you 100%. A lot of RUclipsrs are post big chop but I dont understand the point of being natural and then covering up the hair you work so hard to be proud of. I feel you on the struggle and have transtioned 3 times. I'm staying relaxed but love your vids.
BriLineFilmEditor I completely agree.. It's so much easier now!
Extensions at four?I'm sorry, but What the hell?
TheZchristina97Just box braid extensions. I'm not dead, so I'm guessing it was no big deal~
Mariah Verneus best comment on here! Im in the process of transitionin and this video is very helpful!
Right on black queen are people is so hung up on some damn hair it's so much shit going on in the world besides some hair you can't eat no damn hair it's your choice your hair how ever you want to do with it sweety
I feel like people with 4c hair are mostly the ones that want to go back to relaxers. 4c hair is beautiful in my opinion it just needs wayy more tlc than coily or curly hair. that's all. don't do it :/
True. It saddens me.
Idk to each their own but i wish someone would have urged me to go natural a long time ago. Its more work and more care but its beautiful hair
Jahna Trapp 4c hair is nice. You can rock a nice puff or Afro. Also they hold Bantu and twist out way better and beautiful.
Girl, let go the standard perfect curls people told you you need to follow. Frizzy hair is beautiful too. I promise it will get better once you find the routine that works for you, so don't give up yet. Stay strong sis 💕
That what I have very Frizzy hair, We're the ones that need a hair movement we are very over looked lol
+lisa hayden Me too and I ain't ashameddddd
it has been the opposite for me.
This is me!! I literally use 3 to 4 products..and I keep it so basic!
kikifresh same here lol.
Seems like you're really upset that I wanted to get a perm?
umm no hun.. just being specific & stating clear facts.. plus i ended my statement with a smile not a frown..
+cookieinspiron lol ikr. She's big mad. Hate those type of natural "sisters".
everyone who uses caps are not angry loves.. im speaking with excitement..
This is how to leave a comment! Constructive criticism!
i go to bed with my hair in a puff sometimes. Being natural isnt tht hard to me
It's really not but I do have room to talk because I've been natural all my life so I knew some things before I actually started taking care of it and now it's growing! 😊. Lol but yeah I agree it's a learning process you just have to know what works for you
Until them edges start breaking.
+osimeon00 bit a tight puff. Not very often either that i still do it.
+rosedaline valetine lol foreal
Google porosity test. Your literally just putting a strand of hair in water. Porosity is very important in building a regimen that will work for your hair. Also styles that stretch the hair prevent single strands knots ( twist outs and braid outs) . Natural hair is definitely more maintenance if you make it . Wash days of course are longer but I gravitate toward styles that last at least a week or more. Thats 7 days or more of not combing through my hair. I hope this helps Sis . Either way your gorgeous with natural or relaxed hair
But arent most people normal or low with natural hair so she could skip it and just try techniques such as warming products or warming her hair with warm water before putting products, washing regularly and so on
I said most (based on this natural hair survey done in the US). That doesnt mean all.
+nanajosianne I believe I have a mix of the two. And I'm half african and half black american.
+nanajosianne wrong.

Do you boo whatever you do.❤️
If it hurts when you comb your hair, you're doing something wrong.
gigglyfitzgirl Exactly
gigglyfitzgirl Not necessarily, she might just be mad tenderheaded.
Idk I'm really tender headed like really really bad and It doesn't hurt unless I take a sew in out
gigglyfitzgirl she's not necessarily doing anything wrong, in my family many girls are tender headed...myself included.
my sister used to say my mom is using a rake in her hair.
i ended up styling my own hair since i was 9.
one of my daughters even at 12 would scream and holler at how hard I'm combing her hair...my neices bawl...yep, tender head is a struggle.
Finally a video that speaks the truth! 👏 not all natural hair is easy to manage and not everyone's hair is the same texture
Georgiaaa Exactlyyyyy and people get so offensive when you talk about the struggles!
Quick Tip: Buy natural hair products at CVS, they have a 100% money back guaranteed return policy if you've used or have not used the product.
Constance Rose wow. I never knew that. Good to know. Sally's has the same return policy.
Constance Rose i hit up dollar general lmfao
"My boyfriend won't let me..." Girl, bye!
Lsdivoiletgreen
Right!
Lsdivoiletgreen You got me dying!!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Lsdivoiletgreen 💀💀💀
I feel you.
Sparkle LaBelle thanks good ideas! I'm 8 weeks into no relaxer and trying not to open up this box of perm!
AND HIS VIDEO IS ALMOST A YEAR OLD SO THINGS HAVE CHANGED!
Ashley Thompson If you can turn the comments off, I think you should.
You should definitely turn off the comments. these people are extremely rude.
hi Ashley Thompson, If you want to go back to straight hair I recommend a Japanese straightening/ thermal reconditioning system!!
You can do whatever you want to your hair. Just be reasonable and think it through. Going natural will be a struggle😙 I am working on that myself
Patricia Johnson Exactly. My hair grew long when it was relaxed and natural
Absolutely, no matter if your hair is relaxed or natural, if it's properly taken care of, it will grow. Thank you!
I totally agree! It's your head. Do what you want.
Exactly! Thank you(:
when I get tired. braids! still saves me to this day
There's rlly nothing that hard about being natural...
I agree, but maybe because I've been natural all my life
Simstone Free for you maybe but give a thought to those who do
It is if you don't do wash and gos
Simstone Free Everyone has a different grade of hair and texture. U mean its not hard for YOU.
TheZchristina97 not really lol I have 4c
this is very real and extremely informative.
Well said. #truth
Yeah, natural hair is expensive, challenging and time consuming. Your hair is beautiful though. Don't give up sis. You'll get the hang of it all.
It's not unless you make it expensive and time consuming.
But if your hair is short in the beginning it shouldn't be too much work at all
Girl I totally agree with you being natural is so hard. I'm so a lazy natural
+Doral Sharkal Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that it's hard!
You can return products just keep your receip, target, cvs, walgreens, and walmart. I have done it.
And I've considered going natural.it's really hard to want to go 100% natural when you work 50 to 60 hours week, maintaining a household, etc. etc. it's nice to see someone on RUclips mention how difficult it is to be natural and not just showing you a quick tutorial and in result.
kinky hair is hard to work with.
Eh not really it can be frustrating but I wouldn't say it's hard.
+Njeko Nwakile It's not hard at all. I love kinky hair. It has that natural puffiness
+Angie Wilder True
it's not hard in my opinion it's just time consuming once you know how to take care of your hair it's not hard
I bought reusable gloves at Sally's to detangle my hair with deep conditioner, and it makes my hair so easy to detangle.
I agree gloves makes all the difference , detangling is a breeze when you use gloves and some conditioner .
I didn't know there were gloves like that at sallys
I use the clear one but i buy the regular cloves that you use to clean , the gloves that come in a dye box are crap lol .
omg thanks for this, will make sure to sallys and buy some gloves
Thanks for sharing. I'll be sure to buy gloves. Right now, I'm loving my short stage...
Some of you are so rude and judgmental. She's expressing herself and how SHE feels.
I spend so little time and money on my hair and it has flourished.
trinigyul What's your routine and products?
Thats it. Those are all the products in my arsenal, very minimal and nothing is expensiv; black soap, aloe vera juice, a rinse out conditioner, a deep conditioner, shea butter, eco styler gel.
trinigyul thank you!! when i first went natural I was always doing what these hair ladies were doing and it was costing me a fortune, and that's money that I don't have cuz I'm still a student, but then one day when I went to buy products I just got so sick of the time consumption and money and rather than go for all those expensive products I picked up some simple olive oil products like I used to use and now my hair is doing better than it was with all those expensive and pointless products
trinigyul
Girl, don't give in! Stay strong! Your natural hair is beautiful, and you will learn! I am just finding your channel! Subscribed!

You do YOU.
You only live once. Your hair doesn't define you! If you want a relaxer get one! who cares what ppl think?!?!
I was natural the first time for 4 years, and and permed and cut my hair into a pixie cut. I’m back natural again. This year will make two years. At the end of the year, I’m relaxing it again and cutting it into a cut short deep part bob! I’m so over this “natural hair”.. I’m straight on it.
i just use water aussie moist conditioner and oliver oil every 2 days and it looks super defined
This is the realest video that I ever saw about the natural hair transition. You explained my actual struggle
Maybe get box braids it's a healthy option for your hair and it literally is so easy to do you don't have to brush anything
I feel you girl... love my natural hair ...but sometimes 😒😒😒
i used to hate wash days too, because it took forever to wash, but i came upon this youtubers video, efficiently natural.
Girl bye.
Ascension 2000 you know the beginning of your comment was nice and calm but towards the end was just rude
My hair has been pretty happy!
if its too too much for u- jus go get a relaxer. its not that big of a deal... and a bf tellin u anything about yur hair choices is a no no... my opinion, that shud b a husband privilege only.
queen bee it kinda is a big deal
I went natural because I was bullied by a new stylist I was using. Needless to say I went back to my old stylist and I have healthy relaxed hair! It's your hair do what you want with it! Don't like anybody tell you what to do with YOUR HAIR!
Aussie moist makes detangling ridiculously easy !!! At least for me !! And it's $5 so if it doesn't work no big deal
Well, do whatever you want, but you look better with your natural hair in my opinion. You look all cute.
you really spoke my mind in this video lady. im natural and im thinking of going back relaxed. one thing i dont like is how all other natural women are reacting to this . . .'oh natural hair is not that hard, you just arent trying enough' or 'i go to sleep without much work and it still comes out fine,' or 'you expect it to behave like relaxed hair thats y u are having troubles' honestly, every hair is different, and so is everyone. natural hair is harder to maintain period. and me choosing to do that which is easier for me should not be a crime. i know i love the curls of natural hair, but it doesnt always look god, sometimes i look crazy and unkempt. i dont look professional or neat. i look haggard. hair is supposed to be our beauty, not something you keep explaining to people that 'oh thats just the style' my whole life isnt supposed to centre around my hair and me being natural..thats what happens. sigh..cant say all that is on my mind but no one should be judged for wanting to go relaxed.
Go get another perm..burn it all off again. No hair, no issues
Oh lord. 😂
Carletta Williams. LMFAO!!! Real shit. 😄😂 Them relaxers with burn that shit right out along with the follicles. Hair problems will be a thing of the past.
Carletta Williams 😂😂
Carletta Williams i never new it was a rule or a command to stay natural or get a perm. Damn what people say right?
Yes I'm just waiting patiently for done length, so I can do some different hairstyles.
Tank you for telling the truth.
Hope this helps, happy natural hair journey!
realast natural hair video i've seen!
Best way to get to know your hair is to finger detangle.
just get a relaxer then . . .
I wanted to say that but didn't want to sound crass... lol. But, yeah.
lmbo
😂😂😂
I literally lol'd when I read this. I wish we would stop measuring our beauty and what we want to do with our hair based on what others feel what we should do. Do you boo all day!
No need to be rude!
I'm a natural newbee and I did the big chop. My hair has never been this short, but my hair is more manageable now than before. It's all in the products. I mix and match product lines. I am enjoying the change but I have to say it has been trial and error. Good luck with your natural hair journey.
I'm so sick of the natural hair movement why not healthy hair movement I'm sick of ppl telling other ppl what they should do to their hair
I so agree with you!
I agree too. I'm relaxed & my hair is thick & healthy. People judge me for killing my "black culture" with "hair crack" like girl bye
+MultiBabydoll1234 Yes my relaxed hair was healthy as well, I just wanted something different since I've been relaxed since I was a little girl. I don't see why people make it a big deal it's great to be back and have that choice to do different things with our hair!
Relaxers actually DAMAGE your hair and scalp, the natural hair movement is just tryna help 😒
I know Right it is so frustrating
Use oilve oil and your fingers to detangle, the olive oil makes tangles melt away, i also think that the longer your hair gets your coils stretch and make detangling easier, you dont need to use those expensive products, keep it simple!!!
Look you are an adult. If you get to the point where you are tired of your natural hair then get a perm. It does not matter what people think.
I'm thinking about doing the big chop but she's making me feel bad
do it . i just did mine on the 5th and i love it. i only transitioned for a year. you have to think about you and how you'd feel about.
Okay...? HER channel. HER opinion :)
Flawless Simmer Okay? My laptop, my opinion. 😊
Bubblezlolx 😂😂 Just like you brought your unwanted comment to mine. Aren't you hypocritical. 😂😂 Humans...
