- This route in Pisgah National Forest outside of Asheville, North Carolina, was probably the best ride of the road trip. Really fun mountain bike adventure the whole way through!

Pisgah and DuPont are big reasons I left Florida, good to see you finally made it to the area.
Awesome! So much more to explore out there, gotta come back.
11:20 onwards is one of my favorite trails. I usually avoid the top part of Black Mountain due to that hike a bike. Glad you got to enjoy Pisgah!
Nice, where is it on black mountain? Just moved up here planning on doing some trails when spring comes around.
So much fun! I enjoyed the hike a bike adventure!
Skills With Phil come to Australia, NSW, Sydney their are some Insane trails to see a sneak peek go to DresserMTB on RUclips to experience just some of the greatest trails of Sydney and it is also the MTB capital of Australia to be exact 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👌🏽👌🏽😃😃🙏🏽🙏🏽😍
I was unaware of that hike-a-bike when we tackled it on a rainy day in July. I thought I was just the worst...there may have been tears. HA! Gotta love Pisgah.
Curious to hear if Phil Kmetz saw fit to walk any spots in the top section of the downhill on this trail. Shit was seriously sketchy in some parts, but maybe I was going too slow and safe to take the alternate/opt-out lines around the death traps.
That was SO MUCH FUN!! Turns out you did the entire Black Mountain, upper and lower! The lower is one of only a few pieces of Pisgah that has been built by hand/machine for mtb specific. The vast majority of Pisgah, and a big factor in it's appeal, is natural and unbuilt gnarly singletrack much like the upper section you saw.
I definitely need to get there, pretty doable as I'm from east coast anyway! Get that shoulder healed up Alex, we missed you in this video
dude thank you for that. it was so hard watching brian head out and not be able to join
We've gotta get back there!
Is this the best trail in Pisgah? How much more trail is there?
There's a trail close to this trail called Bennett's Gap that is fairly similar and just as fun. There's another fun downhill full of rocky switchbacks called Pilot Rock, you take Laurel Mountain up then Pilot Rock down. Cat Gap down over by the fish hatchery is super fun. Man there are so many good trails out there, 300 miles of singletrack.
What a ride! Thanks for that great edit. Nothing beats the actual sounds, discoveries and mishaps for an adventure like that.
Seriously good motivation to find some new trails out there.
So glad you enjoyed it Marc!
Just rode this (seven years after your video) and it’s been rebuilt quite a bit. It’s now got much more flow and is just pure fun. The uphill is mostly the same, still steep and very technical. Absolutely excellent trail
Yes! I really, really need to ride it again!
Just rode bennett gap in Pisgah on Saturday! Black Mountain was a blast!! So awesome!
Fantastic! Gotta try it next time
Great video, great footage. Love your comments! I look forward to riding there soon. Thx!!
Great video braving through the trails alone Brian, ride safe!
Thanks Wong, it was a blast!
I drove from Virginia to Arkansas last week. I stopped in Brevard for a few days to hit up Pisgah and Dupont, I heard Alex talk about it in one of y'all's video's. The hub hooked me up with a super nice Santa Cruz. Was some good riding! I could ride the Ridgeline at Dupont all day!
That's friggin' awesome!!
Great video, there called bar end plugs though. Bar ends are what some of us old timers still run so we can change up hand position.
Haha yes!
Never underestimate the value of being "re-combobulated". I can't tell you how many times (while untangling from the trees) I had wished I stopped and gathered myself before proceeding. Great stuff as always Brian!
Thanks dude! Yes, just getting everything together and getting the heart rate down works wonders.
I been injured you have got me through it. I watch your videos everyday,I been riding more than ever because of you
Thanks so much, man! I'm glad I can inspire you!
trail looks pretty intense in spots, but a pretty good flavor of everything. nice!
Yeah, it was a great mix!
This is so rad I'm used to seeing BKXC riding epic trails in Colorado and California and now he's riding my backyard, I rode the same trail yesterday. The two mile hike a bike is if you climb up directly from the parking lot. For anyone wanting to visit the area I recommend Squirrel Gap, Bennet Gap, Butter Gap, Avery Creek and Laurel Mountain/Pilot Rock as my top 5 trails in pisgah.
Nice! Such a great trail. I've gotta get back to Pisgah to do the rest!
The sound in this video is really interesting, from the leaves hissing, the rubber, to the hoses clinking, there is so much information it could be listened to instead of watched.
Thanks! I take a lot of pride in having good audio
I know you've been everywhere, but so far that trail has been the most epic I've ever ridden. LOVE that trail. And so happy you got to go ride it. Btw, there's a quicker/easier way up, but you do lose some of the down.
O forget that!!! LOL!
Brian, that trail looks like allot of fun ! Gotta love the flowy, fast, rhythmic trails !
TONS of fun!
Oregon has some awesome trails.
Nice
Wow awesome looking trails...👍😎
Yeah, these are wicked!
I've been considering a trip down to Asheville for a long time I'm inspired. Got to go next summer.
Do it buddy!
Glad I am not the only one who struggles with that upper section.
Hahaha, pure struggle!
That was your best video yet! Keep up the good riding! Pisgah rules!
Thanks so much Daniel!
Awesome video! The crew and I will be going there late Spring/early Summer... Can't wait!
Fantastic! I can't wait to get back.
Nothing wrong with riding by yourself from time to time. Just you, a bike and nature, pure serinity.
All i got to say that trench like section was crazy and the nice smooth flow section at the end was fucking mint and fast, love it.
Yep, I agree! I've never seen a trail that had the best of both worlds, so cool!
👍📹👍📹👍📹
The gimbal is awesome Wowwwwwwwwwwww 😄
Thanks dude!
I'm using these videos to plan my trip to Pisgah next month! Pain and Pleasure!
SWEET!
Adventure is always fun but better with Garmin IMO. Your Garmin 500 unit can track mapped routes and makes it way easier to navigate than using a phone. I used a Garmin 800 to ride the entire Great Divide (Mexico to Canada) last year. Wrap some bar tape around your plugs before installing them. Electrical tape can be used too. Love your videos. You capture the reality of riding ---> including the tough climbs.
Thanks for the tips, dude! I really appreciate hearing from other people and the gear they use.
I hate that I wasn't paying more attention to where you were going. I would have been great to ride Black with you!
It's all good man, I'll get back there!!
Bikesterbating the black! When I use the lock-on's with end caps I never make it though a Pisgah adventure without loosing one. I'm glad to know its not just me.
Hahaha, never heard of bikesterbating, but I dig it!
Sweet trail mate
Ended up with some nice flowy bits
Thanks again
Yeah, what a crazy metamorphosis!
HAHAHA, "black mountain, all the way back down". That gets everyone every time. We all think the climbing is over, then there's another 1000 ft climb. The climbing is never over in pisgah bro.
Hahaha, up and up
I'm so jealous looking at you having all that fun. Not much of trails here in Taiwan, have to be satisfied riding my road bike in the mountain roads.
Dang! At least you're outdoors and getting a workout!
take your buddy Seth's advice on the lock on style bar ends, you'll never loose another one again and i bet you can find them to match all your DVO green.
I was just thinking about getting some more green on the bike!
shay rubino I was going to say the same thing.
I've done this trail so much fun
It's a damn good one!
Love this trail, if you're ever in the area again, I'd love to go for a ride with ya!
Best mountain biking in the world!
Nice man! Keep an eye on Facebook
man i am 4 ours away from pisgah ,but never been there looking to go forward tis sumer . what at great video buddy ...
Do it!! Thanks Juan
Great video!!
Thanks bud!
Oh man that was sweeeeet! It had a bit of everything, hike'a'bike, techy stuff and flow! . Your commentary as you ride is funny as hell. Keep it up mate. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks so much Jon! Glad you enjoyed it, such a great trail.
Definitely on my bucket list. Great video as always!
Hell yes, it deserves it!
super fun smooth trail, looked amazingly beautiful. It somewhat reminded me of a trail I road a month ago in running springs, LOTS O' Leaves!!!! Beautiful though!!
Definitely a leafy day! Thanks bud!
Great views! As Alex would say "this trail is rowdy!" But once you got to the lower half you were just shredding the trails brah! 🏄🏻 🙏🏼
The best of both worlds!! Thanks Edd
You are one fo my most favorite youtubers. Big fan. Keep make this good content.
Thanks bud!
you finally rode a trail I know. loved it!
Hahaha, awesome!
Nice trip Brian, hope Alex get better to ride with you. You two make a nice and small grup of really good friends. Hope to see him come back;)) in your great videos and in his great videos. Very nice view on about minute 6.40;)) amazing world;) and amazing single trails. You rock man;)).
Thanks so much Tudor!! Love those views
Those plastic bar ends that just plug in never stay. You can get ones that tighten up. That ride ended pretty nice.
Great ride! Just got a comment about better bar ends, didn't know they existed!
Great ride man!
Thanks so much!
i liked that footage. subbed
😬👍
You should look into going to Mega Caverns in Louisville, Kentucky. It's a HUGE mining cavern that is now a mountain bike trail system
Oh wow! Never heard of it
Watching your rides before I go out always gets me pumped up! I appreciate the time you put into these videos man keep shredding and merry Christmas!!
Fantastic! Glad to get you pumped!
That looks like one gnarly day! I wonder how spring would have been? less leaves? You could barely see the trail at times and the rocks hiding under the leaves. Glad you only had 1 OTB.
Yeah, way less leaves in Spring I bet! Even faster and more fun!
Great video bro.. Glad I'm not the only one that has to walk sometimes.. Head there after the new year. Can't wait!!
Hahaha, you ain't bikin' if you ain't hikin'!
Dude you should totally grow out the beard! It looks sick.
That decent down the ridge top had me on the edge of my seat. Awesome video man, I just got my bike (2017 Diamondback Mission 1). Can't wait to head out and start riding it as soon as my damn helmet comes in through the mail, til then Ill be having to enjoy your content, gracefully so!
Hahaha, I hate my beard so much! Awesome, dude, have fun riding!
So Rad!!! Keep Shredding!!! And, Live-Life-Loud!!
thanks man!!
Dude at 11:52, your riding at mach speed, and the smoothest flowiest trail ever, and you pull a Sheldon Cooper hahaha
Hahahahaha
Brian, have a look at the quad lock mount and case for your phone. It will securely hold your phone on your bars or stem so you can navigate without stopping. I love mine.
Good call!
thanks for the video man! watched on lunch break ;) nice trail again!
Awesome! Glad you liked it
Just got back from there (Ontario CAN, to Asheville) last Sunday. We meant to ride Black Mountain but ended up on Bennett gap. After that we drove over to Dupont and hit Ridgeline....sweeeet day.
Fantastic!! I've gotta hit Bennett Gap next time and you've gotta hit Black Mountain!
BKXC Have you hit Ridgeline in Dupont. Maybe my favorite from the trip. It's machine made flow sumilar to lower black mountain it seems. We did a nice loop including Greens Lick in Bent Creek that was good. Also Bailey DH park.
I honestly don't remember! I'd have to check my Strava.
your a dang good rider but I won't lie, it makes me a little happy to see you have to walk up features, it makes me feel like I'm not terrible LOL
Haha, yeah man, we're all human!!
heres a tip for not losing bar ends, wrap some string around the threads of it, i have never lost bar ends since
Nice hack!
I just rode there!! Such an awesome trail
I've gotta get back!
Thanks for another great video to enjoy. Can I suggest that you buy a Garmin 1000 and follow the route on that thing instead of having to use your phone. Load the route and just follow the turn by turn directions :)
Nice, good idea!
Some gnarly stuff there at the top, bet you got some arm pump on some of that ... looks a lot like Mt Kessler here at home.
Yeah, quite the gnarl! Lots of fun though
What do you mean at the 3:20ish? I love this content.
Lock on bar end works better and also the push in ones can be wrapped with a few layers of electrical tape to fit snug. Great hack
Good call!
I always watch the video. I like the course very well. I envy you because there are no mountain climbers in Korea, so please make a lot of movies.
Thanks you so much!
Wow, the bike took a beating in this one =D
Looks amazing, lots of technical trail, seems like your suspension works just fine ;-)
Keep it up, really enjoying the content.
Big time hammer fest up and down! Thanks Marc
Brian you need to come to Australia man come around the country and up to Townsville in North Queensland to ride the Douglas mountain bike reserve you will love the dust and rocks! As much grip as you can wish for and nice flowy downhill tracks. If you do come to Australia put a video out talking about it and I will talk to you on instagram if you are coming to Townsville and we could meet up and ride. But you would smash me on the climbs with your lungs of steel.
Hahaha, I'm in New Zealand and riding with a guy from Townsville! I'd love to come there.
Another sweet vid man. Pretty much that leaf cover is all the trails up here in NH/MA right now. Not sure about your wet vs leaves comment. The leaf cover scares me because often it's so deep I have no idea what in the hell is underneath. I've had some unpleasant surprises to be sure. But wet roots are a nuisance as well. However, at least with the roots I know what's coming. The worst is wet and leafy. Hahahaha then you're totally fucked because you hit wet roots that were covered by wet leaves.
Cheers bro! Ride on! Super pumped to see the upcoming NZ stuff. I want to visit there something fierce.
Zach Wagner ikr man, at the fells i tripped twice on flat ground. This may also be because i need new tires...
Haha, so true. Fucked either way!!
Just got back from riding Black MTN Trail in Pisgah. Some serious hike a bike but the DH well worth it.
Awesome! I thought it was such a neat ride!
Just did all of Black Mountain yesterday. There's a lot more to the left once your at the top
Yeah, I wanted to cut it a little shorter for my first time being by myself, but NEXT TIME.
Those steps look tailor-made for Seth.
Hahaha yes!
dude like i like your RUclips channel so much that i havent watch the video and i press like thank you for the vids gonna be on your side until you get 1,000,000 subcribers and more
Thanks bud!
good work
Thanks dude!
Future video requests: 1. Kingdom Trails (Burke, VT), 2. East Hereford, Quebec. 3. Mont Sainte-Anne, Quebec, 4. Vallée Bras-du-Nord (Saint Raymond, Quebec), 5. Marquette, Michigan, 6. Copper Harbor, Michigan, 7. Duluth, MN, 8. Cable, WI, 9. Maah Daah Hey, ND, 10. Curt Gowdy State Park, WY. ...I've ridden most of them and they are all great. Obviously these will all have to wait until next year unless you get a fat bike. :D
Good shit, man!! I've heard of them all, and it would make a great road trip heading east to west or west to east, right?
I've been doing the Mid-west road trip for the past 3 years (from Colorado). You can do all of those on a road trip easily. I ride one place all day and then drive to the next in the evening. I reckon you could do the same for the NE stuff. Those northern Quebec rides are so much fun and you get to eat awesome Poutine after each ride. :D
I love it, man. You're getting me fired up!
Love the new channel art
Thanks dude!
O M G This place is awsome.
Yeah man, it's a sweet spot!
Hey from the UK. Love this - if only we had trails AND decent RUclipsrs over here to show us MTB newblets some ideas. It would be great!
Haha, I'll get over there eventually and show 'em who's boss!
Sweet trail mate, would love to ride in thick leaves one day. Don't get much here in Australia. Great ride keep it up
Horsey ! What state are you in man? Queensland here...
Definitely a great one!
Riding in leaves is pretty cool, its quite a different feel!
Too bad Alex couldn't join you this time around. Some of that upper trail looked bone-jarring as hell. That lower section was sweet, though!
All around awesomeness!
I know you love your wolf tooth grips, but rental make super tacky Kevlar grips with built in bar ends and I freaking love them!
Always open to checkin out new stuff!
That's what I have. Super tacky and I beat the shit out of them.
Nice!
Red Monkey Grips have lock-on silicones. ODI have a double lock ring w/captured ends.
Nice!
you gotta ride the Frederick watershed in Maryland! Best trails in the area!
I've heard things! Gotta see it
BKXC lemme know when your in town!
Sweet trail! Sorry your trip to NC/TN coincided with the recent forest fires. They were pretty f'in bad.
It really only killed the ride in North Georgia, everything else was good!
5:25. Lmao! I re-watched that several times.
Looking thru the comment section, People have already mentioned this. But having such a nice bike, and having such crappy bar ends that fall off as soon as you get on the trails seems like a clear message to get new aluminum bar ends
Didn't know they existed! The Hub is one of the best bikes shops ever and all they had were those shitty ones!
Damn wish I would have been into mountain biking when I was still in NC. I will say there is some kick ass trout fishing close by there as well though. That looked like an awesome trail!
Haha, isn't that how it goes? You never knew you were sitting on a gold mine!
That trail system is probably amazing when conditions are primo.
It was damn nice, so I'm sure it's even better!
damn bro your climbing skills are insane! really looked like an adventure to me! loved it when the trail started getting smoother! Keep up the phenomenal work Brian! your bike is lovely it's a shame we haven't got a Santa Cruz bike distribution in Vienna cause I would love to test ride one of these Bronson beauty's! Big props from Steph as always
Thanks so much for all the kind words Steph, I really appreciate it!!
You should try some imprint grips. I have ordered a pair and they look really nice!
Ah, I have heard of them, forgot to check them out!
You need a Wahoo ELEMNT so you don't have to keep getting your phone out to find the trails! The ELEMNT has Black Mountain and most if not all the other trails already loaded on it. You can track your rides and share them straight to Strava from it.
Nice, I'll look it up!
man thought you were doing a final scene retake from last of the mohicans! was Wes studi running behind you!!? :D
Hahaha, fantastic
Oh man, I wish I had your bike and trails like this in my country. A tip to make your navigation a lot easier without having to stop and get the phone out of your pocket, is to try what I am using. It's a mount from Rockform. Check it out.
Thanks man! Interesting, I'll check out the mount
You and bar end plugs! :D LOL
Can't win with them damn things!
DUDE THATS SO COOL YOUR IN ASHEVILLE!! Pisgah is my local spot wish I coulda rode with you!
There's bent creek and Kolo Bike Park which are two of my favorite places in my area should check it out!
Glad you could experience the gnarly pisgah trails!
Thanks man, it was a blast!
Great video Brian! Any chance you could do a video about the Delorme one day? Never seen one of those before.
Thanks man! Maybe, never thought about it!
subbed, good video dude, plus your other ones
Thanks so much James!
nice vids and chanel mate! including some some thing person shots of you riding the best bits would ad more diversity to your videos tho.
Yeah definitely!
If you want the most painful xc trail, come to Louisiana, there is very little real elevation, so you are constantly pedaling. If you want a fun trail in the South East, go to Mt.Zion in Brookhaven, Mississippi
Nice!
nice!
Thanks bud!
Cool trail, but the leaf carpet looks scary for me, i mean you can get sunk into a hole and fly away over the handlebar!! maybe??
Definitely!
