  • What does it take to race 1,100 miles in one day? Kyle Larson just announced his plans to compete in both IndyCar’s Indy 500 and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 in 2024 (for Arrow McLaren and Hendrick Motorsports respectively), so I wanted to answer that question. Of the 4 drivers who have attempted the feat (Tony Stewart, John Andretti, Robby Gordon, and Kurt Busch), Tony Stewart’s 2001 attempt still holds the record for best finish. In this video, we explore all of the physical and mental challenges of driving a race car in both of these historic races, and what Kyle Larson will be up against if he wants to best Stewart’s finishes.

Appreciate you mentioning Kurt Busch taking 2L of IV to recover water while on the plane to Charlotte. That was the one question I had regarding drivers doing the Double which you answered.

Appreciate you watching! The sources I read/examples I gave were of Tony Stewart, but I'm sure that Kurt Busch had to undergo a similar recovery in between. It's really crazy what they put their bodies through in one day!

So I know a funny story that goes with this, Bobby Allison, and old racer in NASCAR used to train for races by driving around his hometown in Alabama in the middle of the summer with all his windows rolled up, in all his winter clothes and jackets with the heat blasting for hours on end to train for the heat in the NASCAR cars

😂Racing those kinds of cars is dangerously loud. Gotta protect your ears if you want them to keep working when you're old.
