  • Corey Christiansen, a brilliant guitarist, composer and educator, came to Idaho State University in November of 2019 as part of the ISU School of Music’s Guest Artist Recording Series. Corey’s visit was sponsored by ISU’s Cultural Events Committee and ISU Jazz.
Jon Armstrong, ISU’s director of jazz studies, handed out four of Corey’s tunes to ISU jazz students to listen to and learn in preparation for Corey’s visit. We had one rehearsal where Corey shaped the music to fit the ensemble, after which we played a gig in town, and came into the studio the next day.
Corey was such a great guest artist, sharing his music so generously to our school and community. He’s an internationally renowned player and educator, and it was an honor to host him and bring his music to life in a new way! It was such a profound experience for our ISU Jazz students to play alongside such a great musician and composer.
The recordings were engineered, mixed, and mastered by Jon Armstrong in the ISU Recording Studio. He was assisted by Sam Lai, Ryan Tomlinson, KayLynn Hammond, Dallas McCrea, and Gabe Lowman. The videos were filmed, edited, and produced by Kaylie Poole, an ISU student and intern for the Recording Studio.
