This was Ed Wood's masterpiece & message to the universe,
and if/when you see other Ed Wood movies, you'll see why.
However, he was ahead of his time in message; it's just too
bad he was completely incompetent in his execution.

Ed Wood's real masterpiece is Glen or Glenda. It is expressionistic, heartfelt and unique, while the rest of his stuff tends to be genre pastiche.

FINALLY. Best Worst Movie. I was part of a theater company years ago who did this live on stage in 2009. We did it, playing up the campiness of the script and acting and capitalizing on the cheap sets, as we used cheaply painted flats for our set. I played Criswell. It was the most fun performing experience I've ever had. :) I love watching this movie and watching people's reaction to it. Way better of a bad movie than The Room.

Bela didn't die while shooting *this* movie, exactly. Notice that he doesn't share a scene with any of the other actors. Whatever he was shooting for, those plans were scrapped when he died, and then Ed Wood made Plan 9, trying to do his best to incorporate the Lugosi scenes that he had. The movie "Ed Wood" gives the impression that the scenes were shot randomly with no plan at all. I don't know if Ed, famous for not wasting anything, would do that.

Maila "Vampira" Nurmi later went on to sue Elvira for stealing her act, after Elvira was hired to replace her on TV.

Just for a little context here, the footage of Bela was not made for this movie. It was from a couple of other movies Ed Wood was making, but Bela died and those projects were thrown out. But Wood wanted to use all the footage he had of Bela, so he just threw it into this movie. If you'll notice, Bela disappears (and really had no connection to this movie anyway), and somebody takes his place. That was Ed Wood's wife's chiropractor, Tom Mason, who was about 6 inches taller than Bela, and looked nothing like him. So Mason went through the entire rest of the movie with his arm over his face, you know, like people do. Was all that totally ridiculous? Well yeah, but this was an Ed Wood movie, and "ridiculous" was one of Wood's stronger traights.

This movie is an absolute jem!
Please watch "Ed Wood", so you kinda see the behind the scenes of how this movie was made, and Ed Wood's other bad movies.
