    I have been a Contractor for what feels like 100 years. I have watched DIY shows and videos for ever and this is the best and most complete instructional video I have ever seen. Trade secret: those of us that are plumbers and electricians are prima donnas. We don't like to share everything so that people keep hiring us. Congratulations! You are the man! Great Job

    A couple of pointers first I am a plumber and I do not recommend the copper compression system they have a greater chance of failure. For some reason the copper over time seems to lose its compression. It's rare but I have seen it. I dont know if it's because copper is a soft metal etc or how its installed. I've had to open up a few walls to find it leaking. I normally cut the copper ring and replace it with a stainless viega style compression. The stainless ring seems to works better. I really prefer uponor system but that's another thing entirely. Secondly I would of siliconed around the tube spout nipple, screws for the wand, wand water supply and even the shower spout. Especially the tub spout nipple for some reason I have found water follow the spout back and leak into the wall. Again it's rare but when I install it I dont want to chance a call back. Really good work I enjoyed the video.

    As a professional red seal plumber and contrary to some things ive seen on your other videos you did a good job on the plumbing by actually soldering and using crimp adapters. Thats the best way for homeowners and contractors to do it. Have you seen the pex by copper stub outs for sinks and toilets? They work great for a tub spout if you wanna save soldering in the wall and want a quick and easy way to mount a slip fit tub spout. Used one in my friends cabin and it worked great

    I just paused this to comment. I have a good deal of DIY experience, and usually, I research the crap out of things before I do them. I am disappointed that RUclips didn't start sooner and also that you hadn't come into view until recently.
    I like your approach and since I am not at it everyday you best me on ideas and ways to do things lol.
    But really thanks man, I know your job is hard enough and long enough without talking to the camera all the time. We really appreciate your efforts and keep it up! I really like the combination vids like shower instal methods. It is really good to have all things in one.
    What I would recommend is grouping together similar issues. Like Bsmt waterproofing, flooring, exterior finishes, driveways etc. You give good content and I think people would like to know the good better best as you present it. Oh I loved the sound proofing too.

    We just did our bathroom and we used a 6 way diverter with a separate temp adjusting mixing valve. We used all Pex: shower head, tub spout, wand. The brand we used was delta for the valves. Interestingly delta said their 6 way valve is not designed for a tub spout as one of the legs but we went ahead and did it anyway. It works great. I would say that we used Pex A instead of B as Pex A has expansion fittings. Therefore when you make connections, the inner diameter isn’t made smaller by the fitting so it should help with potential pressure issues. The fittings with Pex B are also what cause that dribbling from the shower head when installing a system with a tub spout diverter. Great video. Awesome way to install a shower system.

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY
      @HomeRenoVisionDIY  5 лет назад

      very cool. the valve i used has a positive stop so you can use pex b as shown and have no issue with the tub spout. Cheers!

    • @rickw4160
      @rickw4160 5 лет назад

      you can use pex a with a crimp if it has the proper certification. I know uponor aquapex meets the certification for using crimp as well as expansion. You cannot however use this shower kit with the expander, as the diameter of the fitting isn't large enough, and does not meet the requirements.

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY

      correct. the fitting has to be copper ring at the valve.

    Good video Jeff. Very informative .I forwarded this video and some of your other pex and shower videos to my brother-in-law. He wants two remodel his bathroom by himself. I told him good for you..... if you get in trouble call me.
    I have used a couple different brands of tub spouts and trim kits from Europe. The trim plate has a backing with a gasket like yours. But the tub spout also had a silicone gasket and o-ring as well.
    When I use a regular plastic or metal threading in the tub spout I lay a thick bead of clear silicone caulk on the inside just a 1/16 inside the back rim of the spout. Let it dry until the next, day, maybe two. Then i use clear silicone caulk and run a bead of caulk onto the caulk outside shoulder that I had put in the day before. I embed a large o-ring sized to fit into the new caulk, tighten up the spout and then I have a water tight seal. I’ve done this dozens of times and have yet to have water get behind the spout and leak into the wall. It takes a bit of planning and your need the correct size o-ring but it works pretty good. Hope my explanation was not too confusing!

    I am just about to close up my wall on my shower project and now have to rethink how deep my drop ear is relative to the studs. I imagine that there are multiple lengths of pipe nipples available so if mounted too deep you could solve that issue with a longer pipe nipple but if it protrudes out too far then it would be a bigger issue. Glad I watched and learned (a few) things.

    Just a public service announcement. Do not use pex from the mixer to the tub spout. The inside diameter of the barb, or sharkbite fittings is 3/8" and will restrict the flow of water enough that the shower head will drip while filling the tub. It doesn't sound like a problem to some but the drips will hit the tub spout and splash onto the floor. Plus a dripping shower head is not correct. To correctly install use copper pipe from the mixer to the drop ear and from the drop ear to the tub spout. If you don't want to solder copper you can use sharkbite and REMOVE the white plastic insert. You do not need this insert if you're using copper or cpvc. I am a new home owner and just remodeled my bathroom following this video series and it turned out great except for the dripping shower head. It caused me a lot of headaches but after reading several forums I ran copper with true 1/2" inside diameter fittings from the mixer to the tub spout and it's now working correctly.

    You make it look easy enough for me to do and I haven't done any plumbing or remodeling. That has always been my husband's cup of tea.
    Question: We are about to remodel our bathroom. We are getting rid of the tub and putting in a tiled shower with handicap access. We can't make the window smaller or remove it all together (that gets into repairing and re-siding a 1960's house with original painted Masonite siding. That comes at a later date). So about 3 inches of the window will be in the back of the shower. We will be replacing the wood window with a vinyl one. But how do we make it waterproof?

    • @HomeRenoVisionDIY

    I would advise you not to loop your pex I am a licensed plumbing contractor in south Carolina. With 26 years experience, the one down side to looping is it puts stress on the pipes and will cause it to leak down the road the best way to run pex is to use elbows. For one it takes the stress off the pipe and it looks more professional now this is my personal opinion and just that but what do you think the customer would rather see someone who took the time to make things look nice and neat ir someone who took the easy way

    Hi Jeff. This is a pretty old video but I'm just watching it now. I'm not sure if it was already asked in the comments, if it has, I apologize. I'm wondering where you got the three way valve. I've looked around online and all I seem to find are for copper. I can't seem to find one that is all pex.

    Hi there! I recently came across your channel while searching plumbing videos, it was the one with you and your son replacing a water heater. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your knowledge! As my Journeyman says, plumbing IS sexy and there's no shame in saying that 😊

    Thanks for all you do for us in your videos! You are our family’s go to for all DIY projects.
    What are your thoughts on shark bite fittings behind a tiled shower wall? We changed the shower fittings during our shower remodel, and we used shark bite fittings. This was before I saw this video. Would you recommend redoing it so we don’t have a hidden shark bite connectors?
    Thanks for your time and expertise!

    You are lagging behind. Just did this last week 😄 I watched the whole video anyway. Very well done as always! Reality programming without the fake drama 😂

    I did remodels for a few years, but whenever I take on a new project in my house, which is 100 years old, so there's a lot to do, I check to see if you have done a video on it, extremely helpful.

    Should you pressurize the PEX system prior to installing drywall to make sure there is no leaks?
