The Spydiechef, Hinderer XM18, and the Benchmade mini Crooked River were big winners for me. The S110V Military is an honorable mention because it's hard to pull out of my pocket and not get some looks.
This was actually a pretty interesting video. It's interesting that how much you like a knife isn't tied to how much it cost. That Deka is a nice knife. I am waiting on a blue one to come back in stock. Good to hear you like it so much.
Lionsteel SR2, Lionsteel Kur and Benchmade 4300 are my three top knives that slowed my rotation. Then Benchmade MicroPocketRocket put a hold on new knives for a while.
Leeks are a gateway drug! My Protech TR-3 is really close. I'll switch for a few days or when something else works better, but it always finds its way back into my pocket. A deep-carry clip with recessed screws, a little interior milling, and another 1/4 inch of blade would make it about perfect for me.
Had a Domino didn't carry it much, added a Lynch Northwest clip contoured the flipper tab to the scales added a detent ramp. Now it's my most carried knife.
I've seen a lot of people do that, which is cool. I like mine the way it is, but whatever works, works. I open mine with the thumb hole, but I like the guard that the Flipper creates when it's open, so I didn't do a delete.
I was satisfied until I saw this video on the NORAD. Now I’m watching all the videos I can on this knife, I had just cured my addiction until this notification alerted me to the Norad and that Case! It’s your fault! Kidding, but kind of serious about researching that NORAD now. The addiction struggle is real. I know many of us have a list of twenty or more knives that we are jonsing for and trying to obtain. The list is fluid and will contain knives from budget knives to grab if we find some extra cash under the couch so to speak. The knives that come up on a whim from social media or the forums that are users or hard to find on the secondary market to grail knives that are so difficult to get like a Koenig Arius. The list of things to get for the knives like drivers and bits to lube and aftermarket scales to church up the old Bugout and PM2’s and Para 3’s in our collection. The hunt never stops, and as soon as one is ordered, an e-mail notification will come in about an exclusive or a restock from DLT, Drop, Knivesshipfree, etc... and now it’s on to figure out how to get that new front flipper Laconico or set the alarm for the next Strider drop. The only cure is another hobby that is equally expensive and addicting like watches or flashlights, pens, or guns. Or... a severe financial crisis or situation where it scares you out of the market. Even this COVID-19 crisis that has hit the economy has peaked my interest because now the ZT0308 is $50 off. I’m going to pick up a Spydiechef and an Anthem soon. Good luck to everyone and Godspeed on your addiction. Great video man.
Yup mine was the crk small21 insingo. With natural micarta inlays. Crazy cause I have a lot of knives. And it’s been really hard for me to buy more knives. Lol but now I’m into slip joints. Crazy ass addiction. Oh ya I’m also getting into fountain pens. That’s another rabbit hole
Bought the We Hecate. Fidget factor is a ten. Great story behind the design. Then my wife checked the credit card balance and declared "one more knife Mr. and I might hit you over the head with it". Two weeks later and I'm still loving it, but still afraid to test the waters. The Chimera is now calling my name. Ummm!
Fantastic video! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on these knives! I am glad you are liking the Deka!!!! The titanium Benchmade 940 Osborne is one that has me thinking this is one I could carry all year!
Great vid brother! How many are enough? Does it control me or do I control it? Do I get to enjoy a blade to it full potential? Why buy something I don't need? Is the joy in using it, hunt for it or collect it, or where is the joy? Every time I'm about to buy another blade I end up asking myself these questions. I loose some and win some.
The benchmade Freek in m4 ... I caried it for 6 or 7 months and stayed at home last week for the first time when I got the Benchmade Bailout in M4 .... and now I think the Bailout will come with me for a very long time
JT, I totally understand the addiction. I only started a year ago and I'm a woman, lol. The Steel Will Cut Jack mini was my first knife, then I went to the Kershaw Leek, Ontario Rat 2, CRKT Squirt, Benchmade Mini Freak, Kizer Dukes, Kershaw Atmos, Steel Will Intrigue, Kizer Sheepdog mini, Delica 4, Benchmade Bugout ( stonewash red, black blade), Para 3, Steel WIll Modus, Lil Native ( black out serrated), Mini Bugout ( white) and NOW, I want that Domino!! Just saw it online in Red @ BHQ, when does the addiction stop? I'm trying !! WIll prob get that Kershaw since it is in D2 and I don't like blades over 3.5 ( small hands, I prefer 3, but 3.25 ok). The Domino looks gorgeous but heavy ( 4.10?? ). I also want the Bechmade Valet ( Shinola prob impossible) but I like the size & weight on that one. Ok, stop the madness. I have the CRKT Squirt on pre-order ( I think glow in the dark handle, black blade). Nuf said, thanks again, we have similar taste.
With you and ALL the reviewers and media out there ...I can really get a LOT of info BEFORE I buy a knife....so these days, pretty much every knife I buy slows the addiction...I am right now playing with a HatiOn Carbon....this one better put my addiction in SUPER-SLO-Mo for a while, while my bank account recovers. 🙀
ZT 0562Ti , Southern Grind Spider Monkey, Hogue Ritter, and Benchmade Super Freek. All those satisfied me for a while. But eventually I had to get more.
Late to the party! For me it was the Spyderco Manix 2, Benchmade 781 (just like you and others!), Protech Malibu, and TRM NEWtron.... Of course those are NOT the only ones I have or had, and I've currently got three in the mail... UGH!!!!
Great video. It is interesting how certain models just speak to you for almost intangible reasons sometimes. I, too, was always surprised that the Domino wasn't more popular. Mine is definitely a keeper. The knife that I carry more than any other has turned out to be the Spyderco UKPK in S110v. The practical reasons are that it feels good in hand, is super light, carries discreetly, is super quick to use with no lock, and is cheap enough that it would be easy to replace if lost or damaged. But mainly, I just like it.
The elementum did it for me for a while. The bugout being my first benchmade didnt at first it made me want more axis like alot more. I resisted and now i can appreciate the bugout. Idk how you do it if you can make a amazon store so we can click links on these and see cost and specs i think metal complex does it. That is what made me love bladehq videos all the knives in order in the description easy links and ready to order.
I've avoided doing stuff like that on purpose, because I don't want any monetary benefits being associated with my channel, the way you would with an amazon store or link system. I could just throw a link in to a distributor that I use, that would make sense.
JT's Knife Life i get it i remember you talking about that. I just think your fans like myself buy knives. Idk if you could make a poll i dont mind you getting a kick back from a distributor. Especially usually we would get a discount code. Its alot to take on.
@@jessebergunder It is, and it creates a slippery slope of where does it end. But if it benefits people who watch the video then it isn't really a bad thing. That's the decision I struggle with. Thanks for the feedback about it. 👍
I almost was cured when I finally got my grail Shiro F95T, but in a different way. I got annoyed at myself for spending so much money for what I'm afraid to use and carry instead of buying good new computer that would be useful daily. After that I now stay mainly in 20-60 USD range. No collections, grails or limited, only easy to replace beaters that I will actually use. It feels nice to use your stuff without worrying about scratches, value loss and gone forever after one production run.
Well said. And it's weird for me when I think of the knives I want to keep safe and the ones I don't. There's not much rhyme or reason to it sometimes, when it comes to price. Some I just don't wa t to see get beat up. Others I don't care about. Its odd.
I've been a Spyderco fan since their introduction but find myself carrying others for the last year or two. For many years (5+) it was ZT-562CF on weekends and Sage 2 during the week and if I never had anything else I'd still feel I had everything covered. I felt the same way when I carried an Endura for 10 years. I should have stopped there, it would have saved me a fortune. Now, if I could only have 1 knife for the rest of my life, it would be the FF Archbishop. Unfortunately for me, I can't bring myself to carry it for fear of beating it up. That's as close as I get to a knife that 'cured my addiction'.
Great video topic. I was looking at the small sabenza this morning. I’m a volunteer firefighter so I can get 10% off if I order through the Chris Reeve official website! Made it even more tempting
The Centofante 3 was my first Spyderco, and it made me fall in love with them. My latest conquest is the Spyderco Kapara (preowned). Lets see how long I can keep it in my pocket.
The takeaway: To slow the addiction for new knives, get a really good new knife. Haha isn't that the truth? The last acquisition that beat back the blade beast in me was the Bestech Starfighter in black. So sexy. Great vid, thanks man 🔪👍🗡
After I got my Grimsmo Norseman. It stopped all acquisitions for a couple months. Then i seen the koenig Arius and had to have it. Should be here tomorrow
My vdk impaler is my most recent knife to curb my addiction. I’ve had a hard time not carrying it. Another few would be the microtech LUDT stormtrooper edition, the bestech texel and the spyderco smock.
Things slowed much (and they still are) when I got a Fox Terzuola 515w knife, but it's not because it's the best knife imaginable, in fact it even doesn't have a clip, but because of a functional mod I made to this knife. I wont' get into the technical details of the mod, but it changed two conceptual things about the knife carry - it moved the knife from my front pocket to a back pocket (and made carrying it there comfortable) and it made it slightly more difficult to instantly pull the knife to use it or just to play with it. These two things combined removed the knife from my permanent attention, thus thoughts about knives in general distract my attention less often, but at the same time I still always have a functional and beautiful tool with me.
I'd also argue that when you make a modification to a knife, even if it's a small one, it makes you appreciate it more and it becomes more your own. That definitely helps elevate the status of it.
I'm new at collecting although I've carried for almost 50 years... Most of my small collection at this time has been Buck, Kershaw, SOG, Civivi or other budgets (on the wish list). I've never liked the look of the Spyderco but since all the channels seem to laud them, I reluctantly bought a G10 Tenacious at Walmart for $42. It hasn't left my pocket for 3 weeks... who knew?
Even Spyderco states their knives are (mostly) function before form. I never really liked them either, but after finally buying one, I now understand why people love them. I bought two of them just two weeks apart, and am now eyeing more Spyderco knives.
Ive been collecting knives for years i still havent found a knife thats even close to my perfect grail and lately the more i spend the less happy i am i dropped a grand on a olamic cutlery wayfair in damasteel picked it up once and it sits on my shelf i just had delivered today a adv utl its ok but the closest knife that almost cured my addiction was the koenig arius in m390 hey great video it really made me think
I appreciate it! And as far as the 943 goes, the first one I got was a fixer upper, and I'd already owned a 940. So it wasn't one that took over the pocket right off the bat.
Interesting about the Centofante. I’ve had my eye on that one for awhile. There’s something about it that just really strikes a chord with me... can’t quite put my finger on it. And, crap, now thanks to your video I have to buy one. 😜
I had one totally regret selling it to a good friend who had just lost his favorite folder. I'll own another soon, I just wish the wharncliffe version that came out before the present one was available. It's PERFECT...
Growin up, the older family told me, "you don't buy a bunch of the same stuff, you buy a few good things, and use those until they break." Don't think they were accounting for the collector side of things, lol. Still, I try to keep that mentality when it comes to the EDC thing. I have things that should be good enough to last many years with proper maintenance, and I don't NEED anything else. What I want, well that's different, lol... Can't always get what we want tho.
Ha! From the title I thought this video was gonna go in an entirely different direction. Was thinking it would be the duds that soured you on the hobby for awhile! Good solid choices and quite understandable. Geez this video made me stop & think about how long I’ve been enjoying your videos. Your enthusiasm for the Sage 5 led me to getting one which I finally sold to a good friend this past week. That was quite awhile back when I bought mine. Maybe you’ll do a video of the knives that most disappointed you sometime. I’d find that interesting to hear your choices and reasons for that.
I wouldn't buy a benchmade because of price an CRk are ridiculous for what they are. Not a crkt fan either price for material. That leads me to coldsteel an kershaws the two best companies no matter what fanboys say
Everybody looks at it their own way, and that's fine. Personally I think Cold Steels are among the worst "price for material" that's out there, which is why I haven't bought one in a long time. Reply ·
@@JTsKnifeLife you really have no clue but I guess if you really use a knife other than pocket jewelry you'd realize liner locks suck broke 2 every real vet has just about trusted his life to coldsteel you need to find out what real soldiers buy but pocket jewelry is ok just not my thing remember there is a difference between real use an over priced fan boy. I'm not a kid been around since before spyderco had pocket clips first knife I ever bought that had a clip was ken onion Kershaw an Endura was junk that the clips kept falling off so maybe I know a thing or 2
@@richardhenry1969 I'm sure you know more than a thing or two. And I'm glad that you know what stuff you like and what you don't, but we obviously don't see things the same way. You can call my knives pocket jewelry or whatever you want. I use them when I need them, and they serve me well, period.
I wish I could say there were some or even one. Seems like I want a certain knife for awhile then I get others cause it isn't available or I didn't have the free cash at the time. Unfortunately usually once the order is placed I am looking at something else. I want that experience.
The Spydiechef tops my list. When I unboxed it, I thought to myself, “Why do I need other knives?” Every time I pull it out I think the same thing again. The Knife Art CF Lg Inkosi was my grail and has lived up to expectations. After 6 months, buying another knife still seems pointless. The Spydiechef will keep the top spot though because the Inkosi was so dang expensive.

Don't kid yourself. Nothing can cure the addiction. Sometimes it temporarily slows down, but then suddenly it is back again.
This is truth.
The Benchmade 940 cured me in December. Then two weeks ago I bought the Spyderco Caribbean, then the Spyderco Dodo three days after that.
The Caribbean is such an underrated design. Great knives you picked.

The takeaway: To slow the addiction for new knives, get a really good new knife. Haha isn't that the truth?
The last acquisition that beat back the blade beast in me was the Bestech Starfighter in black. So sexy.
Great vid, thanks man 🔪👍🗡
Sure thing, and good choice. Starfighter is a sweet one!
Make mine blue.
After I got my Grimsmo Norseman. It stopped all acquisitions for a couple months. Then i seen the koenig Arius and had to have it. Should be here tomorrow
@@jamestedrow5115 very nice. Bet you're tracking the f*#k out of the package
Dude tell me about it!!!!!!! I really think it’s worse than drugs!!!!!!! Thanks dude hang in there
Hahaha I'm struggling but I'll make it!
Man I understand 100% what you are saying it’s like you were talking about me. Great video
Hahaha glad you felt that way about it
When i got my para 3 in s35vn, swapped out to micarta scales and an mxggear clip that slow my buying down for awhile. Great video!
Nice
I wasn’t especially bothered by the stock para 3 clip however that MXG clip is sooo nice! I’m really glad I pulled the trigger on it.
Thank you. Micarta Para 3s are pretty much as good as it gets.
My vdk impaler is my most recent knife to curb my addiction. I’ve had a hard time not carrying it. Another few would be the microtech LUDT stormtrooper edition, the bestech texel and the spyderco smock.
I was just handling a Darth Vader Impaler today and boy are those fun to open and close.
Min have been small sebenza, Benchmade North fork, Emerson a-100, protech sbr, parA 3 in maxamet
I really like the North Fork a lot too. Very overlooked model.
It hasn't left my pocket for 3 weeks... who knew?
Agree on the Delica. I bought one based on the reviews. Frankly, I don’t understand the hype
Glad it did The Arius is amazing, makes sense it would come close for you. 👍
@@JTsKnifeLife are you on Instagram i would like to follow you
Great topic, it's funny how that works. I was surprised the 943 wasn't in there. This couldn't have come at a better time. Well done!
I appreciate it! And as far as the 943 goes, the first one I got was a fixer upper, and I'd already owned a 940. So it wasn't one that took over the pocket right off the bat.
You have to stop watching videos to even get close to ending the sickness. Nope
... can't do it!
Hahaha me either!
Yes, not watching knife videos helps. 😁
My top three almost cures were benchmade Saibu , zero tolerance 0517, and my bugout once I got titanium scales on it
The Saibu is a good one, I really like that knife!
Need? I’m thinking you are a long way past need...
Yeah, I can't really argue with you there.
Growin up, the older family told me, "you don't buy a bunch of the same stuff, you buy a few good things, and use those until they break."
Don't think they were accounting for the collector side of things, lol. Still, I try to keep that mentality when it comes to the EDC thing. I have things that should be good enough to last many years with proper maintenance, and I don't NEED anything else. What I want, well that's different, lol...
Can't always get what we want tho.
It's hard to come to terms with the fact that I can't have one of everything hahaha.
We should all remember that we always need only one more knife. Simple.
Well said.
I thought I'd already replied to this, sorry. That video idea seems like a good one though. Definitely will need to do it.

Yep as soon as the order iis placed the shopping recomences!
Rick Kerans agreed, the work is never done.
That's exactly how I felt about a few of these!
The Bareknuckle 20CV version has not left my pocket since I got it. Great video!
Thank you, and good choice!
@@JTsKnifeLife my BM 940 is feeling neglected.
yeah i just got into knives spent over 1000$ in less than one year, need to chill and show some self control.....
Yep, exactly!
I too will get rid of all my knives except my Domino.
Yeah, almost 😍😍😍😍
But not quite 😁
I was thinking on the houge is it really good feel good in pocket
