Myshire farm raises coturnix quail. This shows how we care for day olds through 3 weeks or age. Basic water, food, heat source and cleaning practices for coturnix quail.
I have a question: Why do you use heat lamps and not an oil filled radiator in a insulated box? I would think the latter would save a lot more electricity in the long run. Do you agree or disagree with this?
We recommend 6 chicks per sq ft and so we wanted to fit 100 in each brooder. Also we found the poop tray we wanted to use and built the brooder around that.
so you just use the same bedding until they are old enough to come out? doesnt that get messy? I was thinking about building a brooder with 1/4 inch flooring so I don't have to change out the bedding
Thx for the great vid! You mention that in the middle of winter you use the 250W bulb for heat. May I know if the room in the video is insulated, and what's the approx temperature inside the shed in winter? Asking because I'm planning on having an outdoor brooder and wondering if the 250W bulb is warm enough to keep them alive during our winter, which can sometimes go below freezing. Thanks!
Nice , just about the same as my Brooder box I think mine are 2.5' x 5' 10 inch high. I was waiting on birds, But ordered 100 eggs from a friend they should be here this week .
Very good your cage system. I am in Brazil and would like to set up a system like this in my home to feed my family. Do you have the cage project? ... it would help a lot, because after the pandemic and the economic situation in the country, I am worried about the lack of food. I appreciate if you can help
Yes the temperature does not really bother them. They are very adaptable. Unfortunately Due to the avian influenza outbreak we have stopped shipping live quail until they get it contained. We are only shipping hatching eggs at this time. I am sorry for the inconvenience. But we usually ship them at 3 weeks old
Have you guys ever thought about rabbit water bottles? My friend using those for her chicken babies and quail babies blew my mind and I never went back. I cant stand the mess made with normal poultry waterers and how they scratch shavings in it etc and then it wicks all the water killing the use of the shavings and the water needs refilling etc. I used them last time I had quail and they were quick to learn. Had to use quite a few since we had a lot of chicks but it worked great and I was able to have peace of mind they always had water.
At what point do they not need supplemental heat from light bulbs? I want to move my babies out of the brooder but the next stop is outside and it still is in the 50's some nights in Philadelphia. How old do they need to be before they can be comfortable outside?
Hi greeting from India , I love your farm it's so organized , it would be highly appreciated if you could update a video by providing the medication and vactination process for thease birds
Wipro Dalai we feed them an all natural feed that we custom blend with a feed store locally and we get state tested 2 times a year for any diseases and bacteria
@@MyshireFarm Hi I brought 100 of day one old chicks last week and now 65 left with in a week 35 have died I don't understand why this is happening ? , Kindly give me some suggestions Thank you
Well it could be a lot of different reasons. For example are they piling up? Are you feeding them a crumble? Do you have multiple sources of feed and water bc they get so cold they will starve themselves by not going to go get a drink? Do you have rocks in the water so they don’t drown themselves. Unfortunately it could be so many things
@@MyshireFarm yes I feed them crumble (which is available in our local market called starter) apart from that I give some supplement ( Vimeral) liquid by adding in drinker . I kept thease birds inside my house , and here o tempreture is 25 to 27 c during day and 19 c during night so I put two 100 waat bulb to maintain the temperature
What is the size of your brooders? Also can the feeders be purchased anywhere? Very nice looking boxes.

This is just works for us and the barn is on solar panels. The heat lamps works for us as we change the watts on a weekly basis
i need to start having a notebook when i watch your videos so i can write stuff down. :)
being new to woodworking projects. Do you have a build plan/Video on how you built these brooders?
We do not I am sorry
Can you give the dimensions of each of the brooder pen. Thank
We recommend 6 chicks per sq ft and so we wanted to fit 100 in each brooder. Also we found the poop tray we wanted to use and built the brooder around that.
Is that how they normally sound or is that the roosters?
They all make a small noise
You just gave me food for thought.
The more I watch you the more I learn.
Blessings and more Blessings to you and your family
👍Super sir
Really you are great

They probably keep that room at least slightly above water freezing temperatures so as to keep the watering systems working.

Yes he did!

Would a large sheet of linoleum work in place of the fiberglass mat? It seems like it would be easily washed. Watched! Shawn Armstrong
This type of brooder is not scientific for circulation of heat, round brooder is perfect.

Hi guys, what disinfectant do you use. I just ordered some Oxine. A gal at the farm store told me it works great on her horses hooves.
That should work great. We just use Listerine and water.

A sheet of fiberglass that we have cut and manipulated to use for our old brooders for more thorough cleaning but we have now went a different way
