Just ordered this guitar, and excited to get it! When I first saw one in a store I thought "That is the ugliest guitar ever!" It was so ugly in fact that I just had to check it out. Well, the rest is history because as soon as I started playing it I was blown away with how comfortable it was!
I bought a HH "second" Strandberg intending to use it as a "travel" guitar. I thought the pickups sounded too "metallic" for me. I researched pickups with a definite budget limit. (Otherwise, I probably would have chosen Lollar Imperials.) I settled on a Tom Anderson HF1/HF2 set. They cost ~$210 USD for the set. I'm very happy with them. If you have a Strandberg and you're considering replacing the pickups, I recommend you consider the Andersons. I also swapped out the knobs because they were too smooth.
I have one just like this, got this before I like how unique it is compared what I generally like and get in shape, configuration and feel. I also felt the pickups are lackluster so I switched those to BKPs (my favorite) silos and trilogy suite and it is amazing
Great review, Rory. I’m considering a Strandberg and I learned a lot. How would you compare the Boden Standard 6 Tremolo to the Boden Fusion? I tried a Fusion and was amazed, but the Boden Standard has a more attractive price tag.
The summary is: it not much of a problem, don't worry too much, you can get used to it. Based on that level of enthusiasm you must be an engineer. ❤️👍😅
I think they don’t put the back cover because they think it’s unnecessary, and just adds weight. Strandberg’s whole thing is just reduced weight and ergonomics.
Regarding action and fret buzz, I have to of Strandbergs - similar Standard NX6 as in the video, and a 8 string standard NX8. 6 sting has lowest action among all guitar I've ever had with no buzz, better than my old japanese-made Ibanez. Nx 8 has either minor buzz across the neck or action above I I want it to be on a $2k instrument, no matter how I try to setup/resetup it. So, it might depend on specific guitar. I'm going to take 8str to a skilled luthier with precise tools, maybe they can finally adjust the neck for me, cos. I assume it can be setup to perfection by polishing the frets or something, adjusting truss rod and strings height is simply not enough. Agree about pickups - they are versatile and sound like nothing, but they sound decent and I like them
Could have a faulty neck maybe a bump in the fingerboard manufacturing issue I would contact them I have played new guitars with that issue if you explain to them they will understand
Nice honest review! I happen to own an Alex Machacek (chambered) with Suhr PU's and it's a beauty, shoulder loves it. Got it set ok from 'factory' (Indonesia>Sweden>Paris). A bit ficnicky to set, still, I do believe the artificial aging of the woods helps with changing climates issue. Enjoy! ps I'd suggest you get in touch with them ( strandberg*) and ask about your problem (the buzzing).
@@rorycosgrove Hey, Rory, glad you answer, thank you. I know mine, and believe most of them, was set to 'NYXL' 0.10/046 (regulars).. I only use those, on this guitar, so far, no problems at all. Sorry for my bad English!
Hello. I'm going to buy a Strandberg Boden Original NX 6 ., but I have doubts about the quality ... .. the owners complain about many flaws (problems with the socket, failure of the bridge tuning elements, problems with fixing the strings on the “head”. Thank you!
Thanks Rory. I recently purchased a DR6 Titanium and had very similar issues with fret buzz on the lower strings but primarily the low E. Upon a closer look most of the frets had flat tops, bad filing and clearly were not crowned. No way it was a new guitar as it also had a bent tone knob and finger prints on the front mostly around the tone and vol knobs. There is no way a new guitar would come in such a state but the frets were like a worn out neck. Perhaps you should check your frets with respect to the buzzing even thought the action is high ! I was very disappointed to say the least and returned it. I wouldn't order one again. I would attach a phot here f i could ...
Hey thanks for your input. I’m not an expert on fretwork but they don’t appear used to me, however I’ve been strongly considering taking it to a tech to see if there are any issues that I can’t diagnose. Sorry you had that experience, did you buy directly from Strandberg?
@@rorycosgrove From their Canadian Distributor but also by the direction of their US rep / something was suspicious ... Have a good tech look closely at it, it doesn't take much and their should be no buzzing!
I haven’t changed the tuning but Strandberg players frequently drop tune. It’s still a floating bridge so it should be more or less the same as with any other
Ive listened a lot of musical demos for this model and the music SUCKS. People who gravitate towards this type of guitar really have bad taste in music. So it seems. Why?
4 strandberg's no fret noise. No issues at all. WTF, you don't play a note... This is a unique part of their line with HSS came here for the stratiness... Not all the blather. Try playing it a bit next time.
AAAAH! Need more detail on trying to tune w/the floating tremolo bridge!
Loved the Persona 5 background music hehe
Cool, what a beauty. I play the 8string. Subscribed!
Thanks!

Congrats! And haha yea I feel like everyone finds headless guitars ugly at first

Thank you for talking about how thick the neck profile was. I have been wondering about that but no one mentions the thickness. I like wizard necks.

Nice review bro

Thanks! I haven’t played the Fusion, but they should at the very least feel the same to play based on specs
i know this video is old but you probably have un even frets. thats whats causing the buzzing. take them and get them leveled.

Endurneck shape is not good.. Because there is not support for thumb becuse of edge of up of the neck
ENHANCED OPTIONS FOR THUMB PLACEMENT
MORE THAN ADJUST FOR THE THICKNESS.
What plugins do you play through, in the unboxing video?
I believe it was the Archetype Tim Henson in this one
i guess the strings are just too soft so they swing out alot which cause the buzzingg
Can the middle pickup be lowered so it's flush with the body?
I don’t know if it has that much range, but at that point I don’t think I’d get much sound from it at all. I still use it a tad bit
Persona sountrack?
Is it quick and easy to change tuning on this guitar? I down tune a lot but wonder if the bridge requires some setup like floyd rose

Wood doesn’t effect the tone of electric instruments lol.
But it do, though. Just not how people might think.
👍
Persona music haha!
