The woman picked up her radio today. She programmed it with repeater frequencies and immediately called out for a signal report. The other side she sounded fantastic. As mentioned, the receive was a bit softer than 2 meters and 70 centimeters. I guess the amplifier microchips are not really designed for 1.25 meters. But she was thrilled. She was the one that showed me that a purpose built triple band handheld transceiver had a lot of crosstalk and stray signal pickup. The Baofeng AR-152 sounded much better on 1.25 meters than the dedicated Yaesu she brought in. As long as people are happy, I keep making a small side income with it. So far, everyone has been happy. This was all just accidentally found out with me playing around with a broken AR-152.

Addendum: The 1.25 meter conversion does, indeed, work. However, performance on that band is greatly reduced, as compared to a transceiver that is made to handle 1.25 meter band. Here are my further findings into a dry dummy load, on high power settings: 146.520Mhz - 10.5 watts 223.500Mhz - 1.10 watts 432.100Mhz - 14.5 watts 446.000Mhz - 12.0 watts These readings were taken on a MFJ-884 and an MFJ-862. Thus, you will get a tri-band handheld transceiver with the conversion. However, it will not perform very well without a repeater. If you live close to a repeater, you will easily be able to contact it. The paintball teams say it works just fine in an open field, for their needs. An operator reports achieving 15 kilometers to a1.25 meter band repeater. Of course, I can neither confirm nor deny those findings. Enjoy your Baofeng AR-152 handheld transceiver, whether you make the conversion or not.
There is a negative on the AR-152 as compared to the TYT and the Baofeng GT-3TP. The power output is low. But for repeaters, it is fine. The TYT and the GT-3TP provide 2.5 watts. The AR-152 is only 1 watt or a tiny bit more. Some get 1.2 watts. Some get 0.8.
@Indrid Cold I use the 220MHz band more for simplex as there are very few 1.25m repeaters in the North West region of NC in decent working order. 220 having a bit of the upsides from both 2m & 440 makes good out here rurally for my intended purposes. Being I'm a QRP type, the low power just amplifies my weird excitement for making nicht things work beyond expectations. Thanks again moth man, & fwiw I hope you make more videos in the future even if it's just debunking/proving naysayers & disbelievers.
@@Johnysoutherner 220Mhz has the most range for the power out of 2 meter and 70 centimeters. It both is penetrating and not blocked as easy as UHF because of bouncing. A beautiful Yagi antenna made out of coat hangers, mounted on a cut broomstick has been said to yield excellent results. I used galvanised hangers. There have been no complaints. I just looked up a diagram and did a few changes to make it portable. It gets me curious, but can have no direct use of bands without a dummy load or being in a cellar with no way for signal to escape. It will be a much larger antenna, but I have been thinking of making a 49Mhz yagi to try out. I can legally use those frequencies. Maybe not with that antenna. But nobody will know. I know almost nobody uses 49Mhz anymore. I do not expect any sort of contact. But I can tune a scanner and make a, makeshift beacon and try out the range with a Yagi. 22 meters has a public, no license segment, also.
The idea is to travel as far away from large roads, and others, as possible. I will likely be on very rural mountain trails. You may never see me. Stock up your Jeep, true 4x4, or Vintage SUV with true 4x4. Then meet me on the lake Michigan lake shore just east of Southbend, Indiana. Look for a discoloured, greyish, cabin Cruiser with barred windows with a small barge attached to it. The small barge will be painted navy blue to make it hard to see. Get onboard the barge and load your supplies on the lower deck. The first night of the bugout, we leave down the St. Lawrence Seaway. We will only travel at night and hide the boat in tall weeds by the day. We will be going Tuckernuck Island to get to the big boat full of more supplies and attach our barge to the back of the bigger boat. We will then be going to Annonkov Island. There, we will have enough food for five years, a large cache of petrol, diesel, water, and MREs. Weapons will be readily available to defend our shelter. We will have a large antenna tower on the shelter where we can listen to the world fall apart as we stay in our safe shelter. When the transmissions get positive or go silent, we will venture out. Until then, we will be heavily armed and let nobody close to our shelter. When we decide to venture out, we will take two separate large boats to Argentina and collect more supplies. We will establish a trade system with Argentinian survivors. We will manufactor and rearm bullets, shells, and manufacture firearm replacement parts. We will also rebuild small generators and engines to trade.. We will trade for medicine, food, machinery, and supplies. There will be a very strictly enforced distance maintained from our larger trade boats. You may have to shoot to k*ll potential invaders. If we establish very strict rules to keep others away from us, we will be fine. Those wishing to be part of the trade route will be held to the strictest standards or they will be immediately dismissed. Traitors must be immediately made an example of their actions. Nobody, but us, will be allowed on the main complex. Your significant other will man the high power radio when we are out on our trade run and supply gathering runs. Remember nobody past those that will board on Lake Michigan will ever be allowed on our shelter complex.

Addemdum: #2 This identical procedure can also be applied to the Baofeng GT-3TP with even better results. With the GT-3TP, more power is produced transmitting in the 1.25 meter band: 146.52Mhz - 7.50 watts 223.50Mhz - 2.25 watts 432.10Mhz - 8.00 Watts Receive is also better in the GT-3TP on the 1.25 meter band, than the 1.25 meter receive on the Baofeng AR-152.
@@Johnysoutherner Yes. This procedure is identical, in every way, for the Baofeng GT-3TP, with the exception of the radio. However, the GT-3TP will yield better results, delivering more power to the antenna. The GT-3TP should have been marketed as a triple band handheld transceiver. The readings are similar to 8 watts for 2 meters into a dummy load, 5.5 watts for 70 centimeters. That is what could be expectable. But for 1.25 meters I got just under 3 watts! I can not transmit around legally, without a dire emergency because I am not licensed. However, the person I did that for told me she could hit many repeaters with just a dedicated 1.25 meter walkie talkie antenna. With a home made 1.25 vertical on her car, she was hitting 1.25 repeaters 30 miles away! Enjoy your Baofeng 3GT-3TP!
@@Johnysoutherner Please use the BF-F8hp setting to make your frequency adjustments on your Baofeng GT-3TP. You will find adequate performance on 1.25 meters, though less performance than 2 meters and 70 centimeters.

I am an X. I am not sure who assigns the generation designations. The generation designations never made any sense to me. A recent observation has been made by others commenting in this poorly made video. It appears there is someone else named, "Indrid Cold." You may have encountered writings and videos of the other Indrid Cold and may have mistakenly believed we are the same person. This is my only video, as of the 10th of October 2023. It is likely that is the one you are wishing to establish a communication. Perhaps, I may attempt to find some of his work on RUclips. Though, I would likely not try to contact him, myself.
With no introduction, no description of the radio, software, laptop, nor my location given in the video, absolutely no video presence, all that is left is the distilled information. It may envoke a feeling of isolating peace in some, fear of being alone in others. Videos, like this, can never be monetised because of the near antisocial delivery. My salvaged camera, nonexistent presence, basement setting, no background sounds, nor even any trace of speaking, seems a violation of RUclips etiquette. It is unfortunate that my writing is still very verbose. Peace, tranquility, prosperity be with you.
Hello, very useful video. Do you have any idea if the AR-152 can be programmed with CHIRP to listen to the air band? In my country it is around 118 Mhz. THANK YOU. SUBSCRIBED.
Unfortunately, this is not possible. Even with frequency expansion, it will not go that low in frequency. More importantly, the Baofeng AR-152 is an FM transmit and receive radio. The airband is all AM. Costing more, but far more useful, is the TYT TH-9800D. It is about £190. It requires a power supply aloo, which can be £35, and also an antenna, £40. But you get a 50 watt radio with receive frequencies, 26Mhz to 33Mhz, 47Mhz to 54Mhz, 108Mhz to 180Mhz, 380Mhz to 512Mhz, 750Mhz - 947Mhz. You can not transmit from 108Mhz to 136Mhz, 380Mhz to 399Mhz, 750Mhz - 947Mhz. But the rest you can transmit using FM mode. You can listen to airband using AM mode very clearly.
@@a77gascan Air band is 108Mhz to 136Mhz. The modification puts you partially in that range. However, aircraft use AM to communicate. The Baofeng radios are all FM. It would sound like a muffled mess of you heard an aircraft communication. If you want a low cost option to hear air band, consider SDR useags. The price is very low, less than the cost of a Baofeng radio. With an SDR setup, you can hear all analogue frequencies, usually from 500 kHz to 1.7 gigahertz. With a few software plug ins, you can listen to digital transmission as well. Do an Amazon search for this very fascinating device. It plugs into a desktop computer for best sound results. Howeve, it also works on tablets, laptops, smartphones blackberry Pis. I use free software HDSDR for my cheap set and SDR# for the better set.

The tiny antenna that comes with it will give you a, start on UHF and some VHF but get a 103 inch stainless steel antenna and a bracket to mount it on your roof or patio if you live in an apartment. Get a length of coaxial cable for ham radio or CB to get it to your computer. Then get an adaptor to be able to attach your SDR receiver to the antenna cable. There are several females that have had this done to there radio. One was large. The others were rather small and athletic. There are not much, "girthy," people that are interested in using their bodies for recreation, repairing things, outdoor activities, and physical activity. The males are rather small as well with a few exceptions. It seems tall people are also not very interested. I, myself, am small but not into airsoft, paintball, nor even have an amateur radio license. I just love hiking, off road, swimming staying healthy. The word just got out that I can programme and repair many.
I am rather reclusive. I want to show as little of myself on any video. This is actually my only video I have ever uploaded. Nobody else had anything like it. I tried to get avid RUclips video uploaders to make a video with the information I have. Nobody seemed to want to make the video. I believed the information has value. Thus, I forced myself to make the video with no spoken word, and no revelation of anything I am. I even made it in my basement with a camera I salvaged and repaired. I have never had a camera that can make video because I never thought I would make any sort of video. This conversion works with other Baofeng handheld transceivers. I found the best results with the Baofeng GT3-TP. It is rather pleasant to have a dual band transceiver that easily converts to a triple band transceiver. Many have brought their hand held transceivers for me to configure, programme, and do the conversion for them.

This is actually my only video. However, it is sort of related to time travel. It involves radio transmissions. Radio transmissions move the speed of light. That, in itself, will slow down the perceived passage of time. After all, time is relative. This is why time travel is not only possible, it is inevitable that it will take place before humanities inevitable extinction.

It appears that either You, or someone using your account, whether at your term8nal or hacked in from elsewhere, commented on that channels video, about time travel forward being possible up to 100+ years for those who lived a long life, but doing so backward proved difficult or impossible. It was a documentary video about an early home computer user who claimed they were able to communicate with the past, and future, using a word document program, on an early PC, before internet existed. If these comments are annoying, you can go to your youtube account settings and comments and delete the posts on that channels comment section, this 8n turn would stop traffic coming back your way regarding the topic. Nice video on your shortwave handheld conversion by the way. My dad, years ago, was a ham operator, so I picked up on a bit of his hobby as he progressed from citizens band in the late 60s, progressing to shortwave and ham license operations in the 70s, id watch him change crystals, etc. which led me to an abbreviated knowledge of such things. I never got into it deep enough to acquire a license, but understand what your conversions are about. I just thought I might be able to clarify where the comments about time travel kept coming from, it was a top commented, most popular post, on that documentary, so if someone other than yourself posted on your account, they did well on your behalf, where 500 replies were left responding to your account connected comment. @@WeChallenge The interest in the early computer user and early word processor programme stimulated a curiosity. I found some videos on it. Those videos led to videos on the Philadelphia Experiment. The subjects are, indeed, fascinating, if not rather fantastic. There is a vague connection to the radio hobby in the time communication video. Radio waves travel extremely close to the speed of light. Should someone transmit a radio signal from far away, it will take significant time to get to the receiver. Someone could be sending a transmission from deep in the past. However a response back to the past may prove challenging.

I am sorry. I am merely a radio hobbyist. I am not, as of yet, an amateur radio operator. Technically, it was illegal for me to push the transmit button. However, I was in a basement, in a house with a corrugated metal roof, in an extremely rural area. It is unlikely the signal even made it out of my property. It was also a momentary transmission of a blank carrier. It is extremely unlikely that the CRCT will send their black vans and an agent come knocking at my door. I do a lot of technical radio work for other hobbyists, including amateur radio operators. But, my conversational skills are not desirable for me to get on the air. Thus, I just build, repair, modify, configure, and upgrade other people's radios and stations as a hobby. I do make some money on the side. But it is more for the love of the radio hobby.
If it is an analogue signal within the range of the transceiver, yes, you can communicate with the radio making the transmission, no matter the age of it. An older operator has a 40 year old handheld transceiver, an Icom 2AT. He can communicate with his new AR-152 with great ease. The only thing the AR-152 can not communicate with, within the range of its operating frequencies, are transceivers that operate on digital modes. They can not communicate with transceivers that use AM and SSB modes, either. They will always be able to communicate from 136Mhz to 174Mhz FM to 400Mhz to 480hz FM, no matter the age of the other radio. If you make the conversion, you can even communicate into more frequencies. Beware, some draconian nations do not allow the use of transceivers not made for their specific bands. But, not all nations are like that. Besides, if you come from one of these micromanaging nations, they really can not tell if your transceiver is not built for the specific band you are using if you keep things intelligent and do not abuse others. Keep power low and you will be okay. I rather worry about 15 watts UHF and 12 watts VHF from a handheld, myself.
Yesterday, I configured a black AR-152 to communicate with a very old intercom system that operated 154.57 Mhz FM. He had it controlling things using the antiquated DTMF command codes of the old intercom system. The intercom system was put into the building in the 1990s. You should see how the intercoms look. They have wood grain cabinets.
Perhaps the lack of spoken word and the sparse nature of the video may be disagreeable with you. The intent is to communicate the procedure in the most basic way . The video has no introduction of content, no personal information on me, no images of me at all, no request for subscribing nor asking for thumbs up. This extremely direct, extremely basic, extremely quiet, video content is very rare in RUclips. I do not even show the colour of my skin. I wanted the focus to be the frequency conversion. I think boredom may have overtaken you. I extend my most sincere apologies, but with the hope the information has value for you.
The radio in the video is a Baofeng AR-152 in the khaki colour. It is a dual band transceiver that covers 136Mhz to 174Mhz and 400 lMhz to 480Mhz. I used a free programme called, "C.H.I.R.P," to redefine frequency limits. All of the AR-152s can be adjusted to simular frequency limits, though not the same. I have found 129Mhz to 260Mhz and 381Mhz to 560Mhz to be good limit changes.

The 1.25 meter conversion does, indeed, work. However, performance on that band is greatly reduced, as compared to a transceiver that is made to handle 1.25 meter band. Here are my further findings into a dry dummy load, on high power settings:
146.520Mhz - 10.5 watts
223.500Mhz - 1.10 watts
432.100Mhz - 14.5 watts
446.000Mhz - 12.0 watts
These readings were taken on a MFJ-884 and an MFJ-862.
Figured out I could do this with my TYT8000E a few years ago, good to know the 152 can also. Appreciate the proof moth man.

This identical procedure can also be applied to the Baofeng GT-3TP with even better results. With the GT-3TP, more power is produced transmitting in the 1.25 meter band:
146.52Mhz - 7.50 watts
223.50Mhz - 2.25 watts
432.10Mhz - 8.00 Watts
Receive is also better in the GT-3TP on the 1.25 meter band, than the 1.25 meter receive on the Baofeng AR-152.
Under what Radio brand in CHIRP can I find the GT-3TP? I've looked under Baofeng & the closest thing listed is the GT-5R.
Thank you for sharing
It is my pleasure and responsibility to share this information with all radio hobbyists, from just an unlicensed hobbyist to an amateur extra license holder. Do not forget to try this with the Baofeng GT-3TP, as well. In my worthless opinion, it does yield more favourable results on it.

@@indridcold8433 Great info! So is there any Baofeng model that can receive the air band? Because the Baofeng are low cost.
Thank you so much.
@@indridcold8433 WOW excellent info. I'm going to start looking for information about SDRs, I had seen them but I didn't know what they were for. Thank you.
@@a77gascan Look for one that supports direct sampling so you can listen to 500 kilohertz or 100 kilohertz. Then you can listen to international shortwave and international ham radio. With the cheap one I have I can listen to Cuba, Australia, Uruguay, Japan. It is very interesting. You will not believe what you can hear, even before you get the digital mode plug-ins! Here are some fun frequencies to listen to when you get running:
3.5Mhz to 4Mhz all modes mostly LSB - 80 meter amateur band the colourful side of amateur radio
7Mhz to 7.3Mhz all modes mostly LSB - 40 meter amateur band some colourful antics here too.
26Mhz to 30Mhz AM/FM/USB/LSB - radio pirates, CB radio, international 10 meter radio.
49Mhz to 49.995 FM baby monitors, walkie talkies, cordless phones.
108Mhz to 136Mhz AM - Air frequencies
162.4Mhz to 162.6Mhz NOAA weather service radio and all hazards radio
225Mhz to 400Mhz AM - UHF air frequencies
144Mhz to 148Mhz FM 2 meter amateur radio
450Mhz to 470 Mhz FM/digital utilities, public services, taxis, buses, FRS, Business band

That’s what I call a Great White 👍… Is there any other info on this beast. Wondering if this was the Large Female that was tagged sometime ago?😮
What's up with the rubber gloves? Do I have to wear rubber gloves to make this conversion work, or can I just "raw dog" it? Thanks!

There must be another uploader with my given name and my surname. Another person posting, CJ Clone, also enquired about my videos about time travel. However, as I mentioned to you, this is the only video I have ever posted. I hope you can find the user, "Indrid Cold," that you have been trying to find. @@indridcold8433 the post people are commenting on, was on another channels video upload.
@@WeChallenge It is not a bother. Thank you for the information. I think it is more someone else shares my name. I look into the, "My Videos," area and the only video there is the radio conversion video. There are no comments about the tne travel video, save for the few that stray into the radio video.

Strange guy, or gal. But the mod does work! How can he or she be a ham without talking?
To ask a stupid question, could devices from yesteryear or the future communicate with frequencies or radio bands of today ?
Wth is this.? (This video is asmr.... i mean i'm falling asleep comfortobly after watching most of it zwz)
I’m SOOO confused on what is happening here?
The radio in the video is a Baofeng AR-152 in the khaki colour. It is a dual band transceiver that covers 136Mhz to 174Mhz and 400 lMhz to 480Mhz. I used a free programme called, "C.H.I.R.P," to redefine frequency limits. All of the AR-152s can be adjusted to simular frequency limits, though not the same. I have found 129Mhz to 260Mhz and 381Mhz to 560Mhz to be good limit changes.

I don't understand. Is this supposed to be related to time travel? You talk about it a lot in the comments.
Also, did you comment about your suicidal tendencies in a video? Because it truly makes no sense.
That is the beauty of life. The beautiful chaos we experience in our existence does not have to make sense. For instance, the video shows me modifying the AR-152 frequency edge perimeters. It is connected to a laptop running amateur radio software. Yet, I am not an amateur radio operator at all. I make comments about time, other planets, time travel, and radios, but none of that is related. The chaos is near perfect. I do not talk. But communicated my intent. I am not seen, yet I am there. It is all gentle, quiet, foreboding chaos. Do not try to understand it as a whole. Understand only the segments of it, and embrace the chaos.
How can i contact u? It was not only interesting to read the comments, but also watching your videos related to 'time travel'
I believe you may be referencing someone else that shares my given name and my surname. This video is the only video I have ever made. It was done with a salvaged camera. There will likely be very few future videos from me. Please try to contact the other that shares my name. I am sorry to disappoint you. Good luck in your requested contact with Indrid Cold.
