    • @dobattlers
      @dobattlers Месяц назад +2

      @@ancro2040 i see your point and its totally valid. I think it all goes to expectations for the athlete. There’s a difference in expectations between an all-time great and a great runner, just as in most things in life. All-time greats are expected to win every race, while great runners are expected to win a few here and there and it’s almost luck or timing when they beat an all-time great, so their wins are what defines them as it defies expectations. Whereas the losses defy expectations for the all-time greats so that what tends to define them (or whether they won that next race) and is the talking point. The talking point is always the deviation from the expectation thats been placed on you. It’s like centro/hocker, no-none expected them to be olympic 1500 gold medalists, so as of now, the gold medal will define them, but jakob is expected to win so the losses sort of defines him.
      If hocker consistently improves his times, his expectations may change, but for now I think a lot of people see this as a possible one-hit wonder for a great runner, who will, if he ended his career today, be defined by the gold medal. Unless he consistently improves his times to move his stock and expectations to that of an all-time great, he could never win another race again and it would actually strengthen the definition of “ya but he still won a gold medal” as his definition because he would move further away from the definition/expectation of an all-time great and be just a great, as is the consideration of someone like centro.

    I remember many top runners that never won Olympic gold and forgot more of those who only won at the Olympic Games. Many US marathon runners (I’m not US and live in Europe) know Des Linden. Did she 🥇? Nope. Who won gold in Tokyo? Don’t know.

  • @Astara_ofc
    @Astara_ofc Месяц назад +21

    I don’t really like the point “you’ll always have that “Olympic gold.” That’s definitely not what he wants to hear in this moment. He’s proven that he could step into any race and take out even the best in the field, so I don’t think it would feel good for people to repeatedly be like “oh well you’ll always have that gold,” when you show up and give your best effort and finish top three. It’s gotta be frustrating as he’s capable of winning these events, and hopefully we’ll see it too soon.

      He won one race.
      It has been repeatedly seen now how he is just not best.
      He won one race that meant everything and that's all.
      I might also add that it makes sense, of how weird the race was, how much it matter, how he raced it. Things went well for his side, but he ain't winning no more unless he actually improves his times.

    • @rajmathew6220
      @rajmathew6220 Месяц назад +5

      Get over yourself, you can't speak on how he feels. The way you think is too negative. He JUST won that gold and he should always be proud of it. He admitted to still being at a high from it, as he should be. You can be proud of what you have while still competing for more. He'll always have one now and anything extra just adds to his legacy. There are many incredible runners who never get Olympic Gold. Cooper Teare used to beat Hocker all the time and he didn't even qualify for the Olympics. Such elite runners would kill for just one Gold. We have to respect them too. So yes, Hocker will always have that Olympic Gold, always be an Olympic champion, and that is an incredible feat considering how elite his competition is. Consistently placing top three against a field like that is winning because a lot of those guys are just as able to win as Hocker is. Diminishing any success at this level is pathetic. I'm glad Hocker is humble and respectful of his peers. He gives it his all and he can live with any result that comes after that. You could learn from him instead of projecting frustration on him for not going "number 1."

      @@APKZ04 Jakob is most definitely the best time trialist at 1500m. He isn’t as good a 1500m racer. At above 1500m he’s a great time trialist and racer both. In the Olympics Jakob knew his only hope was to race the kick out of the other racers, but he went too fast (because he’s very reliant on pacers and lights) and then quit at the end of the race when he realized he wasn’t getting gold.
