“Unarikami”, (“Yoisura Bushi”, Sailors’ Song) This is a traditional folk song from the Amami Islands in present day Kagoshima prefecture. Yoisura-bushi was also handed down to Okinawan/ Ryūkyūan tradition. It’s a song of protection for brothers or men who have gone out to sea, and is based on the belief in a very powerful goddess, or Onarigami [“Unarikami” in Amami dialect], who resides in sisters. A white bird or swan perched upon a ship’s stern is regarded as a symbol of Onarigami, and considered a good sign. The title of the song comes from the musical accompaniment of “Surayoisura”. The words were a little difficult to translate, as they're already Japanese translations from the Amami dialect in which Ikue Asazaki sings, but it’s the lament of a sailor on the high seas who wishes for a sister, or “Unarikami” to worship for the blessings of good fortunes against the pull of the gods. 舟ぬ高艦に ヨイスラ (Sailing on a high ship, Yoisura) 舟ぬ高艦に ヨイスラ (Sailing on a high ship, Yoisura) 白鳥ぬ 坐ちゅり スラヨイスラヨイ (No swan sitting, Sura Yoisura Yoi) 白鳥やあらぬ ヨイスラ (The swan is not there, Yoisura) 白鳥やあらぬ ヨイスラ (The swan is not there, Yoisura) 姉妹神がなし スラヨイスラヨイ (Without a sister goddess [Unarikami]. Every time i listen to music by Ikue Asazaki, she always put tears in my eyes because her voice is a gift that tells the world that traditional music of Japan always prevail!
i feel a bit same about this magical voice , this voice who can make u travel around the world and around the time. it's beautiful . thanks to all who made possible to listen this here
I love the songs 朝崎郁恵 Ikue Asazaki sings. ''Unarikami'' is subtitle. Main title is ''Yoisura-bushi よいすら節''. This is the old traditional song of Amami islands near by Okinawa.
"Chinese pics and Japanese Song" whats the problem with this mix!! We are all fu*king human so If anyone got a problem with it then It's not my concern. I am sharing this song for those who appreciate it & cuz it wasn't uploaded on utube and i felt like sharing it with u ppl to enjoy it. so have fun ^ ^
Thank you so much for sharing this immensely beautiful song.. it's unbelievable that there are people who still look for inconsistencies among such sea of beauty. These are kind of scum who are a blotch in the name of true humanity. No barriers of races, skin color, ethnicities or culture.. we are one

I love her voice so much. It has so much emotion to it. The music just makes it that much more.... amazing. I don't think I could explain it even if I tried, how powerful it is.
I don't know what the japanese lyrics means, but I think I feel the crying and breathing of the soul of this greate singer. What a soul-touching song ! On the other hand I can't understand the japanese young people. They deny their beautyful and odd own culture and traditions, and consume the alien, western (American-like, European-like) pop-rock-culture.
Wonderful voice which reaches the heart and soul of humanity the Lord has richly blessed you,Glory be to God he loves you and so do I thank you very much for enriching my life.
spot on, doesnt make the locations less breathtaking though, just thinking of ha long bay makes me silent like it did when i was 21 visiting there. Omnomnom for the eyes! and thanks to miss asazaki the ears can enjoy the same treatment. Cheers to all asazaki supporters, even the ones who came in through the anime door. any means of getting this baa-chan some recognition outside of japan is awesome
God... I like folk music. Modern variations make new life. And I can hear that something common in chinese, japan, irish, russian music... Strange. Listen to russian folk in modern style: zventa sventana - Ай Божа.avi
3:50 lol, ive been there... in the afternoon heaps of workers come out to wash cloths, while around the corner theres a bunch of illegal dumping spots that go straight into the river or something >.< all it really kills the beauty when you realise theres at least 100 000 people using the river as a sewer/rubish dump
I know this song, but in another version. Is this some kind of remix or alternate version? Anyways, I like this version just like the other one. Ikue Asazaki is an amazing artist and even without understanding what she's singing, her songs are touching and mesmerizing.
I don't know why some ppl here can't see the link in the description :( Anyway anyone who want it just msg me and i'll send u the link in case u can't see it..
Im only 17 and I like this type of music, It's chill, and the voice is great!!! most people nowadays appreciate other music which I accept, but I think people should be more open and not listen to what just the Media have to offer...anyway I don't want to start and argument here...just stating that this is so good it's unusual for people my age to listen to.
+nakamura1994nakamura so? everyone do as they like in music, we match what we hear with what we feel. it doesn't have to be a Japanese songs with a Japanese pictures or whatever only! if that's the case, why do I see many English songs with Anime Clips as AMV I mean!!! man just enjoy the music and enjoy the views, that's what this video is about. the calm in both ears and eyes. Peace...
This song isn't Japanese, it's ryukyuan and is sung in the dialect. Ryukyuan are not technically Japanese (Yamato ethnic group) and where force assmilated into Japanese mainland culture. Ryukyu was it's own Kingdome and the Ryukyuan (who are still around) are their own ethnic group and own culture that is different from mainland Japan (even though they share similiarties). They also shared culture and langauge of the Chinese Ming and Qing dynasties, so therefore technically speaking the picture doesn't matter, as the racial group in question share both similarties from both china and Japan, even though they where seperate from both mainlands.
@@audioxix exactly , but I have to correct one thing , it’s not a dialect but our own language . Japan likes to say it is dialect but it’s not . And I can assure you that I speak the truth since I am myself from Okinawa , the largest island of Ryukyuu
In Japanese, "unari" (唸り) means "howl" or "moan" like the sound of an animal or the wind, but "unarigami" is something else. Unarigami are female guardian spirits in Okinawan culture, and the word comes from the Ryukyuan language.
Shazzam changahaii "Unarigami" means "Little sister's spiritual power". Ancient people around Okinawa believed a man's sister (especially, little sister) has special power that supernaturally guards her brother. This power was called "Unarigami". "Unari" means "little sister", and "kami" or "gami" means "god" or "divine power".
good for you, but there is no more sense of gratification from sharing that thought, the world has already gone to shit, glad to hear you appreciate good music, but if you simply said " great song" we would have understood that fact, your age is a mindstate, you are only as old as you think you are, the amount of years you have been alive shouldn't qualify as an argument to how much you have lived and how much you have learned.
+Hüseyin Pii Here is a thought, since she is an Enka singer, so I think that the flute she use in her music, pretty much called Shakuhachi hope this will be of a help ^^

Such depth...the Amami song style
Like an angels voice! Descended from heaven. Reaching for the heart.
I love her voice so much. It has so much emotion to it. The music just makes it that much more.... amazing. I don't think I could explain it even if I tried, how powerful it is.
Her music gets me out of body experiences legit - it helps with meditation and visualizations

Imaanyi A lot of the songs she sings are traditional folk songs of the Osaka and Kansai region. She gives them such a sad, melancholy sound.
