the pickman fold is awesome. then.. oragami. you explained the steps very well. i am glad you filmed behind you because i learn better as if seeing the steps thru your eyes as youre doing it. i dont do well when facing people demonstrating steps to things it flips my brain in reverse confusion. thankyou for this video. and all your videos. youre very informational and pleasant to listen to. your voice is calm and soothing.
The origami fold has been my goto fold with a pad fold booster. My daughter is only 4.5 months old, so am still pretty new at this. In my researching cloth, while I was ttc, I came across your channel and I just knew CDing was for me. You take care of yourself and your little gummy bear!
I really love the origami fold! I tend to enjoy Folds that keep all the absorbency in the middle. If you like the origami fold you might like the pickman too! I'm happy to hear you like cloth ❤️ I know it's not for everyone but it can be life changing on unexpected ways for those who do choose it. Also, thank you!
I'm so glad I found your channel! I'm learning so much! I'm expecting #2 soon and have gotten more adventurous in my cloth diaper journey. I clothed with my first but only 1 type and the samd brand which worked really well, but now I'm using all your info to help me figure out what exactly I want to try the second time around. Thanks so much! Btw. I love your laid back manner and how you are not afraid to just chat and keep things slow paced. It's very relaxing :)
I'm 32 weeks pregnant with my first baby and your videos have been very helpful and encouraging! My husband and I were just practicing some folds on stuffed animals and I feel a lot less intimidated now. We'll see how it goes come June, so excited!
Take care of yourself first mama! There is always next year, or maybe just take a day off. You got this, but you and that new little squishy are the most important :) We will all be here to watch your videos regardless
My husband has been really nice about this and has stepped in to help! I finally stopped contracting last night lol. My uterus is so sore now. I'm going to take it easy today. I'll probably upload a different video for today, the "tips for hang drying cloth diapers". I only Hand wash at night and since I didn't but last night I have no clips for Day 4's video lol.
Well that's great! my fiancé has been rally great she loves cloth diapering as well. I underestimated how many I would need and Ive had to was them twice a day and pray that they dry in time so I may have to adjust my stash and I hope you feel better! Keep us updated!
That's awesome that she's on board too! We have to do 2 loads a day as well. I guess I didn't realize how many we'd go through when using 2-3 per diaper change. lol my stretchy flats are taking SO long to dry inside. I underestimated how long it would take. I'm definitely feeling better today! I have a Doctor's appt tomorrow. I think I'll VLOG a day in the life of a flats challenge tomorrow and have it up on Saturday.
I have had 8 babies in 9.5 years. My last 3 deliveries have been way not regular/textbook. Contractions never getting close, but still delivered vaginally without anything to push labor along!
I'm wondering how well it'll work for newborn poop since it's so trim in the crotch. It's like the origami fold, imo, but much better lol. My girls are front wetters so I like that I can fold down the front for added absorbency in the wet zone.
LainasLife I hadn’t heard of it either until this video. Just tried it out (on stuffed animals lol) and I love the trimness and the layers in the wet zone. I taught my 7 yr old just now, and she is really excited to try it on the new baby ( she’s already a pro at it lol...great easy fold!) 😍
Take care of yourself and that baby mama! Videos can come late if needed. I totally agree the filming and editing of this challenge is the most difficult ha. I can’t believe doing it at 33 weeks with 4 kids! You’re super woman!
I should get the older kids to help 😉 I used to have them help me plunge diapers back when I handwashed in 2015. My hubby stepped in and lended a hand. I got a lot of much needed rest last night ❤️ Probably won't get Day 4 up today since I didn't get any clips last night and I only handwash at night. But I probably will put up a pre-recorded video.
I just got some wool covers and been struggling with flat folds. And for some reason, I didn’t think to add more absorbency! 🤦🏽♀️ were using these for night diapers and daughter woke up completely soaked... I will definitely be trying these folds! Now I need to go get some flour sack towels.. could I use receiving blankets for now??
I love receiving blankets more than flour sack towels. I find them to be more absorbent, but that also depends on the size of the receiving blanket. Ultimately, receiving blankets are my favorite budget friendly flat diaper! I use them regularly in my own stash. Its such a sturdy diaper!
Do you recommend the FST over all inserts - I have pocket cloth diapers- and I’m wondering if I can just use a FST and with a micro insert between the fold - would it hold as much ? Or still a micro in the pocket for extra soakage.
I just came across your videos today, first let me say thanks, second... my 4mo talked to you the whole time I played this video. She is still super selective about who she talks to. ☺️
I use 30"x30" receiving blankets. People usually have them and you can get them for so cheap or free just by asking people or letting people know you're looking for them.
@@esmo31195 yes! No inserts either. They're cotton flannel and pretty absorbent. There are some youtubers that use receiving blankets. It's where I got the idea from
I really like the origami, but now that my girl has hit 20# it isn’t quite wide enough to wrap the tabs properly and snappi it. We use FSTs so it would probably work better with an actual flat. I am loving the neat fold right now, pretty trim and the wings have several layers so I am not as worried about poking my baby with the snappi!
Hey, um, a lady who uses disposables told me that if the explosion happens away from home, you have to carry dirty diapers around in a bag with you, however many they soil. How do you handle flatfolds on the go, or are they more like lockdown diapers?
Interestingly enough - my daughter has more blowouts when she wears disposables versus cloth diapers. And anytime I go anywhere I bring a wet bag (or a plastic grocery bag - whatever you have on hand) and extra clean clothes and diapers and wipes. It's really not that more difficult then disposables. There are more steps to take and to clean but it's really not *harder* to do it. Honestly I find it a little bit addictive 😅
Yes, of course! JUst pad fold the flat then stick the cbi with it. You can put the cbi on top of the flat, below the flat, or put it inside of the flat. There are so many ways you can use a flat paired with an insert inside of a pocket.
I always do a basic 3 washes. Different fabrics need to be prepped a little differently. COtton would be fine at 3 washes. Bamboo usually needs 3-5. Hemp can sometimes need 7-12 washes. A lot of it depends on the brand. I always take into consideration what the brands recommends for their product. I am a bit lazy though and I just do 3. But for hemp and bamboo flats I just keep them on for a shorter amount of time if theyre not fully prepped. That has seemed to work out well for me these past few years.
I love your videos and didn’t realize how close our due dates are haha! I’m 32 Weeks! I’m delivering csection on July 5th (unless they move my date up)
We are super close! Our babies will be right around the same age. I'm due June 30th so there's a good chance our babies will only be a few days apart depending on when I give birth lol. I haven't ever gone past 39 weeks before. So we will see if this baby's follow suit!
Jay's Nest Due July 9th here :) but I always go around 35 weeks, so mid June for me (with baby number 4) Recently found your channel and I love it! What kind of dye did you use to dye your flats? They are very pretty!
That's exciting! Only a few more weeks to go 💕 I bought all of my hand dyed flats off of the swap, but I've been wanting to do some myself. I've heard dharma dyes are great and safe! So when I dye my own that's what I'll be looking into.
Jay's Nest I think I might dye some too. I buy my silk from dharma trading company but I didn’t know they have dye too! I use a lot of homemade plant based dyes usually, but they aren’t super duper colorfast so with diapers getting such heavy use they would probably end up pastel eventually LOL. I am going to check out dharma dyes, thanks for the tip 👍🏻😀
Are you using half flats or newborn flats? I had a few newborn stretchy flats that measured 20x20 and they worked pretty well. Willow chunked up so fast that idk if a non stretchy newborn flat would've worked for us. lol I personally found 24 x 24 the easiest to fold for a newborn.
I bought my dyed one from a momma who does it for fun, but I am considering doing it myself on my plain white flats. If I do decide to do I think then I'll make a video about it! I've heard great things about dharma dyes. It will probably fade over time though.
Lovely video. I have two kids and had 3 miscarriages the last year. It seems like no pregnancy is there to stay. How did you cope with miscarriage and how long did it took you to get pregnant again with an 'actual' baby? I wonder? Greetings from Berlin, Germany
Coping with miscarriage is hard. I took time to cope by letting myself feel sad, letting myself mourn, and cry. When you lose someone you will find yourself going through the grieving process and it's best to let it flow. It's hard but it's best to allow yourself to feel and heal. 5 stages of grief: -denial -anger -bargaining -depression -acceptance For me, I got pregnant right away after my miscarriages. The first miscarriage I was pregnant within the next cycle. My second miscarriage I was pregnant again within 3 cycles. It's different for everyone though. My sister has had a rough TTC journey over the past 12 years. Her first was a still born. Her second child is living (10 years old) but has a rare uncurable degenerative disease, and she has suffered through 6 other miscarriages. And for her, the pain of losing a child hurts every time. A positive pregnancy test is painful every time. I'm not sure if she will ever have another baby again. It's always hard saying... especially when you have living children and lots of non-living children. I don't understand why miscarriages happen. And I hope you never have to go through another one again
@@JaysNest thank you for such a fast beautifull answer, this really helped megain some hope. ❤ I am really sorry to hear about your sister having an even harder time. 😕 I think no women should have to go through this ever. My thoughts are with her. Anyway. I wish you the most of luck with your family. Keep going with what you love 💖
I bought the OsoCozy birds eye flats (on amazon) and I ordered some tie dye and had a fun time with my kids and my sisters dyeing the diapers - and sons onesies and shirts as well :) I dyed my diapers myself because they can get expensive buying them online.. but it's all up to you!

Yes 🙌🏻 If it fits then they can sh*t in it 😂😂
My favourite folds are pickman and origami... I just recently found the pickman and have all my flats folded that way at the moment...
What are the measurements of those fst? I bought some from Walmart and grove and mine seem way smaller than that. 😅
