as a piece of advice you can just craft a wooden pickaxe and then mine 17 stone to start (for the pickaxe, axe, sword, hoe, shovel and furnace) the stone tools also have more durability and you can save wood
also some extra notes, the furnace is used for normally smelting ores however you can cook food in there, if you add 4 logs to a furnace in the crafting table you can make a smoker which cooks food way faster and coal is what you would use to fuel the furnace. you also could get better armor by mining iron in caves, its like a tan or cream colored rock in the walls that you can find and you put the raw iron in the furnace with coal and it will give you iron ingots and then you can make better tools, armor and new items
your next step is getting iron. If you’re scared of getting lost you can turn on the coordinate system and write down where your base is so you don’t forget it.
