Nice. I hope “Sci-Fi” is never fully welcomed, as I will have to find another way to annoy the pedants ;) Anyway, I especially like reading books about the Mutiny in the Bounty: do you have any suggestions as to what this sub genre could be called?
Hilarious. Clever. So true, though. But just for the record, it's S-F (for me). I miss Omni, man. The look, the feel, the fiction, everything about it. If I had the money, I would collect them.
I am always amazed at how many folks choose to die on the hill of SF vs scifi. I'm on the "meh who cares" side of that fight. Snorted my porridge out of my nose laughing at fe-fi-fo-fum! 😂
Social media creates a fist fight over a game of marbles. I don't like the term sci-fi because it sounds lazy to me. Just say science fiction, is what I tell myself. Same with LOL, just type out "laugh out loud."
I like when you stir the pot 😁 it gets interesting! Yes new terms would be fun . Greg you are definitely on to something here . I’m kind of curious 🤨 have you ever come close to crying over a book? Possibly a tear ? Cool new idea Greg
Whether you call it Science fiction or Sci-Fi , it is not a genre, it is a setting. The same goes for Fantasy, or historical stories. I.e. if you set a crime thriller in 5000AD it is classed as Science fiction. The same story in another universe would be Fantasy, and set in 5000BC a historical or period novel. In all cases the story is still a crime thriller, with a similar plot line and characters, as only the setting has changed. So before you start worrying about renaming "genres", make sure that they really are genres.
I am reading Flowers for Algernon, a book commonly classified as science fiction. The setting is present day United States. A medical and psychological experiment is performed on the narrator. The science they used was fictional when the book was written in the 1950s. That’s why it’s science fiction. (I am only halfway through so no spoilers, please.)
I think philosophical fiction should be Phi-Fi. Awesome, amusing video!
@@vintagesf 🤣. I like it.
🤣 I LOVE this Greg! I vote that Horror fiction should be "Terri-fi"
@@cafecryptic Brilliant!😎
Oh very good!!
I read some martial arts books once. It was Muay Thai-Fi
@@TOLW_LeviWallace So many renaming possibilities.
Mystery novels shall now be known as
Who-Where-When-and-Why-Fi.
@@secretfirebooks7894 Superb!
A genre that makes you feel melancholy should be called “Sigh-Fi” and military fiction as “Semper-Fi”

@@GenreBooks23 We’ll see. The Sci-Fi folk are entrenched.
Of these, I think the term “Guy Fi” may catch on.
It’s funny how the term “Sci Fi” has stuck around while the audiophile term “Hi Fi” has faded away.
I think contrariness might be partly to blame. An expert says one term is correct so others double down.
One more, I think fiction which has telepathy or telekinesis should be called Psi-Fi.
@@vintagesf 🤪
This was hilarious. Bravo!
A term that many readers hate that my brain just clung to is ‘Sick Lit’ for books such as The Fault in Our Stars, My Sisters Keeper etc.
@@therealmightyelf There are a number of other possibilities that end in “lit” too.
👏👏👏
Hahaha! That was a good time!
Bye-Fi is priceless 😂
@@krzysamm7095 Thanks!
That was fun. Love Bye Fi and Cry Fi and also Why Fi 😂
Fantastic!

It’s like routing for a sports team. It really doesn’t matter but people take sides nonetheless.

I’m not a cryer when reading.

I think Cry-Fi is going to take off!

The correct term is *skiffy* 😉
@@paulcampbell6003 Is that actually used?
@@anotherbibliophilereads Only in RUclips videos, LOL! I've never heard it used in conversation, not even at SF Worldcons.
🤣
I guess sci fi is better than RomCom.
