I've had one for a couple years now and run it with a 75 Marshall Mk2 50W and a Vox AC30H2L - its been amazing house the amps in so many different ways and still get a great sound out of them. I also run my time based effects in the PS100's FX loop which is also another huge plus, keeping OD's and Fuzz etc in front of the amps but delays and verbs in a loop. The thing that's tricky about the Fryette is the switches on the left hand side. A lot of people (me included until I found out what was really happening) think that setting the switches to FLAT means that the unit isn't accentuating the tone - so what comes in is what comes out. This actually isn't what's happening. Flat on the unit means that the Reactive circuits are removed from the signal path and you're only using the resistive parts of it. When I used it with both switches set to FLAT I felt the amps had no life, and sounded overly compressed - just never liked the tone at all. But using the PS100 with both switches in the middle position (reactive) made the amps come alive and sound really great even at whisper levels. PS100 def a keeper.

Good demonstration. Thank you. Liked and subbed.

i agree- sounds totally worth the attenuator

Great video demonstrating bypass and then three levels of attenuation demonstrating that you can record at even whisper levels by adjusting the mic in levels and not lose any tone or crispy goodness!

Where were the switches set? Looks like Brite and Warm, yes? Do you ever use the other settings? If so, which do you prefer for recording? TIA!

Exactly, I just kept it on Brite and Warm because it sounded most like the amp when I wasn't running it through the powerstation. I don't really change it much; I only have the presence and depth up a little bit, and keep it that way for recording too. They don't change the tone drastically so I feel like you could probably compensate with your amp tone controls and get similar results. I've toyed with the idea of going to 'flat' for the high end control on the Vox AC15 because it can get kind of brrriiighhtt, but also, I can just use the tone cut on the amp to decrease the presence.

And this answers my question from 'AC-15 sounds' video. As Frank Zappa so eloquently stated, "whoops!"

Nice video, very helpful. I'm trying to choose between the 2a and the 100 version of powerstation. I'm going to be switching between different amps to acheive a variety of clean, crunch and heavy tones and using the PS to attenuate loud amps at home. I don't need the extra wattage of the 100, but I am interested in the 2 channels - other than for solo volume boost, do you think that being able to tweak the presence and depth for different amps and tones would be worth the extra expense?

Hey Alex - yeah, the ability to have the volume boost is what pushed me towards getting the 100 version. I actually bought the 2a, and then returned it for the 100. I have not actually needed the extra features on the 100 yet (and it's been a year) but for an extra 100 bucks it was worth it to me in case I play live. Having different channels for presence and depth would also nice if you go between different amps could be a time saver as well. Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is, I think it's worth the extra money to just get the 100

I hear a difference but it sounds like the speakers being driven harder? The overall tone sounds the same otherwise.

Yes, that likely is one of the bigger reasons why. But that aside, the attenuated does not totally collapse like is the case with some dummy loads i’ve had.
