The second I saw that sweep at 7:38 I stopped watching and came to the comment section. I knew that's all people would be talking about. Marcello is fkn ridiculously good.
I never seen that weep at 3:45 before. I had the honor of doing some MMA rounds with Lovato.... once he got me on my back.. or even on his back.. it was over :( He actually started off boxing before he did BJJ. Congrats on your recent MMA wins, Lovato. Osss!!!
Thats as high end as jiu jitsu gets. Marcelo is a god. Bare in mind lovato is still actively competing. Garcia basically a full time teacher and prob could still dominate most of the high end competitors
GordonFreeman if you have nothing nice to say or nothing constructive to say then don't say anything at all our minds are too calm for the storm of your hatred
now that is some hi quality BJJ the sweep by Lovato at 3:45 was awesome as was Marcelo's at 7:40 I'm only a blue belt, but I can recognize greatness...
It's so impressive how Marcelo is able to stay steady against someone whose arms and legs are so much longer than his. I often feel like he looks at 8:27 ish, all tied up by the other guy. I'll have to try to channel him next time.
NIA Mac look at the importance of always stripping that collar grip! bad things can only happen when they have your collar. marcelo always addresses that collar grip if they get it. he's also so good at capitalizing on that first grip. when he makes the sleeve grip he automatically tights it up in that pistol grip so well into 2 on 1 arm control into his bfg. he teaches it as one his favorite ways to pull guard and it's crazy how effective it is at all levels!
I noticed that as well, very evident in this roll. You always hear it in the academy or in videos, but most people let collar grips just play out as they grab their opponents collar or sleeve... I think it was especially important since Lovato has such a reach advantage.
#1) Its NYC and you would be surprised how much a space that size can run you. Unless you are Renzo Gracie, thats pretty much how gyms go. #2) Not sure when in relation to the filming this it happened, but I know their main academy was damaged by a flood and they had to change locations.
The Gi game is so damn stupid look at the belt all over the floor, why doesn't he grab the belt and wrap it around his neck or tie his legs up. Japanese pajama rules, pause fix top adjust belt, continue fight.
Marcelo's classes run $200/month (1 year agreement) but space in NYC is very very expensive, especially considering that MG is right next to time square.
Waltair Cordeiro, Come on man did you really think Lovato and Marcelo were going all out here? For you this might be all out fighting but in reality this is high level training a whole different level of what you are used to. Just look at some of their videos while competing! And you will see that they are just rolling training here!
Marcelo is the jordan of grappling , I still remember him heelhooking the shit outta ricco Rodriguez , lovato is a deal for pretty much anyone , and Marcelo tamed him
Well imagine after love mauling you I take mount; sitting on your chest I pick up a nearby rock, pin an arm and well...check and mate. Sounds like good self-defense to me, especially if I originally started on my back after a bad start-off. Being able to choke people out efficiently, safely and consistently has its pluses; especially when armchair MMA fighters have a bit much to drink and start getting rowdy. I've intentionally dislocated someone's shoulder once and pray I never have to again.
So I certainly liked the sweep at 740 but what kept Rafael from posting at 622? just the speed at which Marcello was sweeping, maybe Rafael was keeping it playful, did Marcello have some way of stopping the left hand. just trying to figure it out I use a lot of the arm drag grip but I never sweep that direction
Marcelo is keeping it playful, if you watch their match Marcelo 14 - 0 then submits him at the end with arm bar. Lovato did not let go of the gi to post on that sweep at 6:22
it looks like rafael's left hand had possibly gripping marcelo's right lapel, marcelo went for the sweep in that split second and rafael couldn't post. It's hard to see this at the first angle, but once marcelo is on top you can see Rafael's left hand gripping the right lapel.
and marcelo swept rafael to rafael's left. this made it difficult for him to post his hand and have structure to achieve base. He posted on his elbow briefly with the grip in his hand, but the momentum for the sweep at this point was already too much. this just shows how high level they truly are, tooth and nail right up until the sweep, pass, back take, or submission is achieved.
Looked like a check sweep at first and once Marcelo saw that Rafael was so committed to that top grip that he didn't respond to the check, he went through with it.
I've never seen Marcelo work so hard. Bravo!
Against a heavyweight black belt world champ 😂
The sweep at 7:40 was so impressive.
C.Duncan Sutherland I like braulio at 3:40
holy shit that was amazing
I hardly find that particularly impressive.
i'd like to see you land that sweep on a world class black belt.
Tried this on bleu belt bb judoka almost worked. He was shocked as he normally never get sweeped even from upper belts.
The second I saw that sweep at 7:38 I stopped watching and came to the comment section. I knew that's all people would be talking about. Marcello is fkn ridiculously good.
I still have night mares about it. I call them nightmares because they just keep happening and I wake up. I hate that.
Ha! no shit thats exactly what i did. except i rewound it a few times first
Read my mind
HAHA same here. Was going to mention it with a timestamp if I hadn't read your comment first.
Me too,exactly
2:50 and 7:30! Wooooooohh!!! 3:50 was tight too! Such technique shown by these two living legends of the art.
Sick! Madd respect for both guys. MG still a beast, nice to see Jr's game evolve
Its rare you get to see Marcelo under such good pressure and passing attempts. Lovato is a stud and does a great job of hanging with the p4p goat.
I never seen that weep at 3:45 before. I had the honor of doing some MMA rounds with Lovato.... once he got me on my back.. or even on his back.. it was over :( He actually started off boxing before he did BJJ. Congrats on your recent MMA wins, Lovato. Osss!!!
That sweep at 7:40!
+Daniel Olivares I was about to type the exact same words as you wrote and saw your comment. :) Very sweet.
Song name?
dominik cruz will dethrone conor lmao
HAHAHA! christ that was funny
I love how never ending jiu-jitsu is. I watched this right when it came out and missed so much. Watching it again, and its blowing my mind.
i could watch this for hours
It's very good to see that RLJ uses every step in his passing DVD
Marcelo started turning it up in the second half...these sweeps he's hitting are so sick, esp the one in 7:40
Manne Feroz on Fri ko òiquu1u8uu21u1u you 88 ok i u8akwjii ik I 8ii km wiuuujuyuu
Wow...perfection in grappling.
I can't believe there's actually people who dislike this video
i can
The man, the legend.
Great to see guys at this level rolling together :)
Geniuses at work!
Rafael was really making Marcelo work hard for it. Very technical
Thats as high end as jiu jitsu gets. Marcelo is a god. Bare in mind lovato is still actively competing. Garcia basically a full time teacher and prob could still dominate most of the high end competitors
Nathan Jones Khabib will tap him out
GordonFreeman if you have nothing nice to say or nothing constructive to say then don't say anything at all our minds are too calm for the storm of your hatred
Level: God.
Anyone else notice the head fake right before the sweep? He’s incredible at hiding his moves.
JiuJitsu Excellence right there. That damn MG, though.
Marcelino Grande Mestre. dez. obrigado pela luta.
why dont they publish the clip where naranja submits him twice ?
very well said. . . this is true. . .
Awesome Video!! Two Legends!!
now that is some hi quality BJJ the sweep by Lovato at 3:45 was awesome as was Marcelo's at 7:40 I'm only a blue belt, but I can recognize greatness...
This was AMAZING. Both Lavato and Garcia. Another Level.
I never see marcelinho so nervous to sobmit somebody hehehehe ... and din't get... but pass the car, sorry for my english ...
Wow the pressure by Lovato is amazing
We al know Marcelo is amazing, but this Lovato Jr. guy, I'm not familiar with him, but he's amazing in his own right.
Gi is not stupid it's makes u better for those people who think its stupid
What a match, any love for Lovatos mounting of Garcia within the first minute?
Hell yeah! Thats my prof.
First thing you see is him getting full mount on Marcelo and I'm like😳
Gained a ton of respect for this guy lovato...how impressive was this
Don't see Marcelo in deep half very often. cool roll
It's so impressive how Marcelo is able to stay steady against someone whose arms and legs are so much longer than his. I often feel like he looks at 8:27 ish, all tied up by the other guy. I'll have to try to channel him next time.
Best way to pass butterfly is don't let em play butterfly. Lovatos first pass was excellent.
Wow that was wild I just love watching these all stars move on the ground. I think my jitz got one stripe better just from watching them
I like that you linked to another video so we could see the sweep, that's a true hero move man
But Lovato had the best of this match, he mounted him , he got a sweep too, etc
Watching Marcelo here a few times in this video could earn you a few more stripes. Yes, just watching Marcelo here. MONSTER

I like the back shimmy he did Lovato did at 8:15 to get into guard
Raspada, passagem de guarda e joelho na barriga no final do treino. Marcelino sinistro.
marcelo got his ass kicked right here. Pray for lovato jr now
Maaaaaaan! What a great roll. Both of these guys are great. Would be a privilege to learn bjj from either
this is sweet!! Lovato looks like Van Damm lol
8:13 - Roll to guard....flawless...
Marcelo just making up sweeps against one of the best in the world.
did he just attempt a berimbolo on 6:58 on MG?!
7:40!!! O M G!
Lovato was just rollin' as usual...he's pretty chill during most of the match.
7:40 what is sweep
He jumped into the knee-push variation of the scissor sweep.
#1) Its NYC and you would be surprised how much a space that size can run you. Unless you are Renzo Gracie, thats pretty much how gyms go.
#2) Not sure when in relation to the filming this it happened, but I know their main academy was damaged by a flood and they had to change locations.
I seriously dislike RLJ but I have to say his jits is on point. I haven't seen Marcelo under such pressure in sparring, ever.
The Gi game is so damn stupid look at the belt all over the floor, why doesn't he grab the belt and wrap it around his neck or tie his legs up. Japanese pajama rules, pause fix top adjust belt, continue fight.
is lovato higher rank?
7:40 smooth move
Marcelo's classes run $200/month (1 year agreement) but space in NYC is very very expensive, especially considering that MG is right next to time square.
I think I had to watch that Baseball Slide Hook Sweep about a dozen times. Really nice!
Lovato is no joke!!
Well....that esculated quickly.
why do they have such small gym spaces? Get a larger building. I wonder how much lessons at a MG school go for.
I would like to see Marcelo Garcia handling/rolling kabibh
@5:55 Marcelo is like "fuck this belt GAME ON"
Marcelo is his weakest when he fights in gi. He would best that roided Lovato in no gi
never took bjj but quick question is common for them to start rolling form the ground? Why not start standing and go for take downs?
space and potential for injuries.
God. Damn.
Wow, a bunch of nice sweeps.
Muito Bom treino. raros conseguem treinar assim Co MG.
No sound?
jesus
no sound?
jesus christ that sweep at 7:42..mg is god !!
Given that MG is much smaller, he won the fight.
Lovato is awesome
Marcelos gi was way too baggy, made it easier for lovato to get grips
marcelo trains in nyc... real estate isnt cheap..
If you give someone 'too much' respect then you are too far behind.
Wtf why mute sound?
The Fk u talkin about , the music was darude sandstorm
Fantastico!
Galera começando agora nosso canal quem puder da uma força lá blz..oss
wow.. the flying sweep.. too much for me.
That was beautiful. God damn.
Re-watching this now as a black belt, and there are so many subtle movements that I missed when I first saw this footage!
Sweep at 7:38 is just beautiful to watch!
I am impressed with Lovato. His game is fucking serious.
give MG some love @ that hook sweep at 6:20
Thank you for posting - LIKE submission videos?
That sweep at 7:40 so fuck'n awsome
nvm, watched it again and saw the stripes lol. garcia is. doesn't matter though, dope roll
Waltair Cordeiro, Come on man did you really think Lovato and Marcelo were going all out here? And you will see that they are just rolling training here!
This is what I love about BJJ, you can find the best in the world, rolling with the best in the world on any given day.
Marcelo is the jordan of grappling , I still remember him heelhooking the shit outta ricco Rodriguez , lovato is a deal for pretty much anyone , and Marcelo tamed him

Lovato was clearly trying to feed his ego and surprised Marcelo with his aggression in the beginning but then Marcelo turned it up a notch as well.
I'm sure Lovato didn't come all the way to NYC to slow roll with Marcello Garcia. I'm sure they both were on the same page.
Anyone know what gi Rafael is wearing? Sick gi.

Got to see them compete in Houston tourney in a 4 -man ... yes of course MG won
