Stephen Mitchell was polite to not contradict Jon when Jon said Huineng heard the Diamond Sutra in the monastery of the Fifth Patriarch.
Huineng actually heard the line from the Diamond Sutra "Let your mind be unattached, clinging to nothing" while in his own village working as a wood chopper. That line inspired Huineng to seek out a teacher.

He did introduce the story by saying they had learned different versions of it.

    DIAMOND SUTRA
Thank you to much fot this interesting talk.
    From Catalonia
CHan tradition in CHINA, corea and Japan Zen buddhism.
Discover the non duality way, developing a mind that clings to nothing.
Not attachment to name and form..
Not dual response to challenge to put into the words things.
Quantity ( minutes) aren't related to success in meditation.
Diamond zen sutra can change life.
We can discover a place of freedom when we arrive to enligthement.
Liberation. :be aware of the present moment.
Even in the most difficulties situations in life can be may be not solved but relieved with compasion.
The Drama's life dissapear with meditation.
The more inner silence is where to find silence and viceversa the more you can adress your thougths you will be in silence... Penetrate in silence.

Good video. Mitchell didn't miss the opportunity to plug his wife's Work. Ok. Quite a power couple! 😁

He adores her. He has mentioned in other videos how much smarter she is than he. So, we can benefit from her work as much as he has.

Stephen's name was Mu Gak Sunim which he says means no enlightment. He gave up the name and the robes in 1989, after the 1988 sex scandal at Kwam Um School of Zen.

Stephen despite boasting 5 decades of practices showed very little intrinsic value but huge ego putting down others.

Peta Gonkyi you clearly missed the whole point of the story.

Too much pretentiousness- I had a gag reflex- but I am sure the narcissists loved it
