Depends on the crowd I would whip out Mario kart for house parties (when they were still a thing) and the novelty of motion controls still hasn't worn of for a group of drunk 20yos.
I think 480p is fine. My only gripe is that Nintendo never released a wii model with hdmi or even an official proprietary hdmi cable as an accessory. The last model of the wii didn’t even bother supporting 480p which is just ridiculous for a device that was released in 2012. Even the Ouya got that much right lol
I didn't need to be. Back then people were still using composite AV cables. Even the 360 and PS3 did. HDMI cables were nowhere near as common as they are now.
I think that the joy-cons are an evolution of the wii mote with great improvements. With the grip, it basically is a traditional controller. If the switch would be a home console only, the joy-cons could still be a system seller. I also heard that nintendo is working on a next gen controller to revolutionize again so I’m telling exited for that as well. I think that nintendo really deserves credit for taking big risks in favor of the whole industry.
This is what I love about Nintendo, they are always looking to do something completely new and left field with their consoles and as a result they push the industry forward.
Cautionus Gaming Oh wow I completely forgot that Kmart was a thing I even remember buying some of my ds games from Kmart, it just makes me sad that they filed for bankruptcy because one of my 3 local Kmart stores closed down eventually throughout the years.
Edit (07/25/2021): I don't really like the Wii Classic Pro much anymore. The sticks are a little too hard. That is SUPER interesting. The video was put together very well! To answer the question at the end, my favorite controller is either the Wii Classic Pro or the GamePad. The WCP has a super comfortable shell, and an almost perfect D-Pad(it's a bit uncomfortably squeaky with rolling back and forth). My fingers wrap around the bumpers quite nicely. However, the sticks are a bit hard and plasticy. It's a VERY underrated controller, and I wish Nintendo gave it more attention. I love the GamePad so much because it's surprisingly comfortable. It looks like a brick, bit it fits very nicely in my hands and it isn't too heavy. That brings a lot of charm to it. It has a PERFECT D-Pad, the sticks feel great, it's durable, I like how I can play on the screen while someone else uses the TV, and it generally feels high quality. I'd say my biggest issue with it is that pressing LR can be a bit annoying, since they're so much higher than ZLZR.
I hate the classic controller. Feels cheap and uncomfortable. As does the GamePad. Very cheap feeling that one. Too big and vastly underutilized. The Wiimote was perfect. That and the Nunchuck was surprisingly comfortable and innovative and intuitive. Felt like an extension of your hands.
My favourite controllers are the Switch Pro Controller and the Gamepad. I never hated the Joy cons, they felt like a small version of the wiimote. But the grip, nope. Whenever I use the grip in intense games like Smash, the buttons feel small the analog stick and the trigger felt weird, and a bunch of other stuff. The Pro controller fixed all of my issues. It felt like a premium controller, as if it was competing against the other consoles' controllers. Its very comfortable, the triggers are P E R F E C T I O N, the buttons fit my finger size and alot more of improvements. 9/10 The GamePad is like a switch but you have a limited range. The grips were nice, the triggers are also P E R F E C T I O N, the analog sticks are comfortable, and it felt more premium then the pro controller, but not in design, just feel. Its honestly one of the best controllers I ever used. 9.5/10
@@ohmagod I haven't really used the Switch Pro. I might get one if I didn't already have the 8BitDo Pro 2, which very quickly became my favorite controller.
My favorite controllers are actually the joy cons from the switch. Yeah, I know they aren't perfect, and a lot of people prefer the pro controller, but I really like the joy cons, because I discovered that I actually like to play with my arms far apart, as apposed to close together holding the same controller. I also like to play in weird positions like with my arms crossed sometimes, and these controllers let me do that with ease. This is just more comfortable for me for some reason, and I really like it, so yeah, the joy cons are my favorite.
You could do that with the Wii and nunchuk too 😊 when I first played my Switch I said, "holy shit this is just an improved wiimote". Then a year later they started drifting. 😅
Dang, I remember back when my mom (who was in the US at that time) sent us a package with a Wii for me, along with Sports and Resort. We had a lot of fun, now it's stored away in our attic for a while now.
It is impossible for someone to say "The least sold Nintenso product" without excluding the Virtual Boy. I don't even know if it's even neccessary to acknowledge its existence anymore.
How come nobody points out that the nunchuk is just the analog and Z button part of an N64 controller? I've seen a few videos about the Wii's development, and I've never seen it mentioned. The line up identically
I remember my first gaming console was the Wii-U and I was so excited to play it I remember sitting in my room for hours playing LEGO city undercover now I have the Nintendo Switch and I’ve been playing animal crossing so much cause of quarantine 😂
I think my favorite controller might be the GameCube, but that's probably just because it's stuck around for so long and that I play games (not just Smash) better with it.
I grew up with the SNES, so the more uniform ABXY layout works better for me. Especially in Smash, don't understand how anyone can make specials and hops work with button-press jumping
It is a great controller. My only issue with it is the C-stick, which terrible for FPS games. I guess it's like the Xbox 360 controller: great design, but the D-pad is atrocious.
@@UT-Chara It had handheld components. It's a handheld, with handheld specs, that can output to a TV. By your logic, my Galaxy Note 8 is a console hybrid because it also has TV output and I can use controllers with it. It's also more powerful and with a much higher resolution screen.
Don't Subscribe to me I feel like one day technology will be so powerful that the, already, blurred lines between console and handheld will be completely gone.
@@GoldenSun3DS yeah but can your Galaxy Note 8 actually play worthwhile games that define it as a console? If it wasn't designed for gaming, it isn't a game console. A handheld is just a console in its own category, and the Switch being the first major hybrid of the 2. The main difference is that the Nintendo Switch is designed to have handheld properties while mobile, and console properties, like higher resolution, while docked to the TV. That makes it different from a phone, which isn't a console for gaming.

It was great when I was a kid. The nes and the SNES sold brilliantly. Unfortunately because the n64 was on cartridges and PlayStation came out with Cd Roms, most developers would make games for Sony instead. Sony because a masssive success and Nintendo couldn’t catch back up doing the normal powerful console route. Even I personally thought the n64 was better than the PlayStation. Nintendo are an amazing company for not giving up and trying new things tho. That’s why they are the best in the business. Shame sega didn’t try to keep going instead of giving up on consoles.
I quite enjoyed that informative trip through the conception of the Wii. Hmm, second video of yours from my suggested videos feed; both were well made and entertaining. I'm surprised you haven't gotten any more traffic than 88k subs.
The wiimote and nunchuck is probably the most intuitive controller that I've ever used. One button per finger (mostly). Just an overall nice grip compared to console controllers that cramp my hands. Natural motion control, I still cant get used to holding a brick sideways with traditional controllers. The gyro is just so difficult.

Horribly suited for mario kart though
@@jgsh8062 Maybe for the more intense gamers out there, but not for kids and non-gamers. Whenever I play with my little cousins, if they don't have motion controls on then they can't play at all.
It's for that one game though. I prefer the nunchuck control because the motion controls aren't the best for MKWii and I just prefer the feel. But some games are good for it and have good mechanics using the motion controls

720p is already hd
1080p is full hd

I think 480p is fine. My only gripe is that Nintendo never released a wii model with hdmi or even an official proprietary hdmi cable as an accessory. The last model of the wii didn’t even bother supporting 480p which is just ridiculous for a device that was released in 2012. Even the Ouya got that much right lol
@@alistair4909 that i also agree with.

If you haven't already, can you do one on the Wii U? Thanks.

My first wii was the red one
The GamePad is like a switch but you have a limited range. The grips were nice, the triggers are also P E R F E C T I O N, the analog sticks are comfortable, and it felt more premium then the pro controller, but not in design, just feel. Its honestly one of the best controllers I ever used. 9.5/10
@@AnnoyedAlways2 After using it for a while, I don't really like the Wii Classic Pro. But I love how the GamePad feels. It has much better sticks.
@@ohmagod I haven't really used the Switch Pro. I might get one if I didn't already have the 8BitDo Pro 2, which very quickly became my favorite controller.

You should of called this video "The History of the Wii".
histor-wii
You couldn't find Wiis at launch, and now they're literally just £20
And at the end of the decade, they may cost hundreds as the units dry up. Look at the GameCube. Gamestop was selling them refurbished for $30 in 2007.
I like this explanation
You could do that with the Wii and nunchuk too 😊 when I first played my Switch I said, "holy shit this is just an improved wiimote".
Then a year later they started drifting. 😅

-we just do- but seriously it takes a little while for people who didn't grow up with it
It is a great controller. My only issue with it is the C-stick, which terrible for FPS games.
I guess it's like the Xbox 360 controller: great design, but the D-pad is atrocious.
They even make GameCube based controllers for the N64.
"The wii is the most successful console"
Switch:Hold my Joycon.
Wrong: the Switch is a handheld.
@@GoldenSun3DS wrong, its a hybrid of both
@@UT-Chara It had handheld components.

Sony & Microsoft: *rudely reject the motion controls and their creator*
Wii: *becomes the best selling console of its generation, and one of the most sold of all time*
When I first saw the circle and star I though “that would be a bad design for a console.” Who came up with that for a controller.
Fun fact, Microsoft debuted the Sidewinder Freestyle Pro motion control in 1998. It was mainly targeted to be used in Microsoft flight simulator for flight controls.
I remember trying it out around the time the first Super Smash Bros. came out.
I love that Miyamoto quote about power in consoles; it's so true, and it's what always draws me back to Nintendo consoles over anything else (the Wii especially, back in its day)! Fantastic info all around, been loving your choices of subjects lately!!
I had never realised how poor Nintendo’s sales were before I was born...
Droid On The Internet it was very good for me since I was born near the wii/dsi era
I was born the same year my DS lite was manufactured.
