Interesting story. Around 2001 to 2002 there were also a small number of Australian F/A-18s there for air defence, covering activities supporting operations in Afghanistan. Not sure why they ended up there instead of American fighters.

Afghanistan was a NATO operation. Australia is not a member of NATO, but nevertheless it contributes support to NATO where they have a joint security interest.

Diego Garcia the island of shame - the entire native population was evicted by the British so the USA can base their killing machines. The Garcians are living in suffering poverty in Madagascar. Just like the American Indians, the Hawaiians, the Filipinos, and the Okinawan s the Whites cane, saw what they wanted and took it from the indigenous owners. The lecturer talk about eco refuge - perhaps the Human thing to do is to let the Garcians retirn to their homes. Please watch the John Piger documentary on Diego Garcia.

So what. Compulsory purchases are part of the modern world. It's not as if they were not compensated.

There is no such thing as a native human population of Diego Garcia and the standards by which we might call somebody a native would make 'the white man' native also, of everywhere your racist mind believes the 'white man' should leave.

@@stevemorrisby6705 compensation was paid to the Mauritius government, not the natives themselves. The natives have received pennies in compensation to this day. I'm a 2nd generation Chagossian, both my grandparents were born on Diego Garcia and surrounding islands of the Chagos.

Interesting, but a disorganzed, disconnected presentation.
