- This kalimba makes music two different ways! Enjoy the sweet sound of playing your own music or the wind-up music box inside. It has 17 tines and is in the key of C (and I think it sounds nicer than most hollow kalimbas!) You can grab yours on Amazon: amzn.to/3Lgvwod

The music box song is also playable on the tongue drum! see April Yang's version here :) It's one of the tracks from Studio Ghibli's anime movie 'Laputa: Castle in the sky' - called 'Carrying You'
ruclips.net/video/2TlN_8oB6D4/видео.html - or otherwise, the original version from the anime ruclips.net/video/tOfU-6f2zhI/видео.html (the main melody is used throughout the movie in many variations, this is just one of them titled 'the girl who fell from the sky)

The Song Castle in the Sky also works on the Kalimba, Ocarina, 2 Octave Handbell Set, Harp, Bouzouki, 5 string Electric Violin, 6 String Banjo, etc. What's really interesting is that the tines actually Resonate when the music box plays, so it's actually a bit like a Sitar which has Sympathetic strings.
I like the idea that it has a music box in it.
Thanks for sharing!
If you tune all the Kalimba Tines down a half step so that it's in the Key of B & you wind up the music box, the Main Kalimba tines will then act like Sympathetic Strings on a Sitar.
Thank you so much for this nice review. It inspired me to order the same Kalimba music box as Christmas present for my daughter. 💝
Here you go Molly =)

I think you’re right.
Wow, Molly, it's been a while since the last time you reviewed kalimbas! I've always preferred hollow kalimbas but these are so unique... maybe you could play along with the music box tune!
I think the principle behind this guy is based on the Sitar or Hardanger Fiddle which has Sympathetic Strings.
You are literally the nicest person ever
Aww, the msic box sounds so great.
Hi it’s me Geoff Uk time and it’s interesting and I’ll be having one verly soon and I actually heard about it and basically it’s from Africa and this African artist of the zawose queens are preforming at WOMAD at malmsbury. In wilture and they play the kalimba music box so it’s very interesting so I’m going to learn to play one so basically my discovery about the instrument kalimba is from originally from Africa and it might be from the African country might be from Gibon or west Africa from Geoff England Uk
У вас очаровательная улыбка!
Don’t really know why but I always find a Kalimba to sound a bit sad, can’t quite explain why
