They were all highly noteworthy, each in its own way. That last one, the 14x6, 15-ply Bubinga took my breath away.
Everyone were unbelievable. This is a serious drum company.!!! Triple A quality, that's for dam sure.
High praise for these excellent drums.
Bubinga stave, WOW.
The beech 6in was a pleasant surprise. Tight but w/a nice big round tone. All top shelf snares. Always a pleasure learning and watching.
They all sounded good. Ash sounds simmilar to birch. The ash and birch drums have ghost notes that POP. Bubings sound dark and warm. Higher tunings suit them best. Beech is basically maple on steroids. Loud, Proud and powerful. Maple will always be a balanced choice. Stave construction always suits my ears. Cast hoops better control unwanted overtones. All nice drums.
Really beautiful drums! They all sound great. If I had to choose one I loved the beech with the outer ply of walnut burl, wow! Brian Blade is a Canopus guy. I saw him play twice, and was truly impressed with his sound. Thanks DCP for your interesting videos.
Bob McGowan
They all sound great but for me the maple was the killer!
Ctrain Ugly yep. The maple was great at both tunings. I liked the ash one too.
Wow!
That's a hard one!
I simply can't make up my mind!
Every time i listen to them, they sound so different!
Incredibly good sounding snares!
Cheers from Brazil!
I like the beech a lot.
my favorite is the birch bubinga 5.5x14. very clear and articulate sound.
and equaly favorite is the beech snare with walnut burl veneer. i found the maple snare too mellow for my taste. all birch snares were clear and articulate, all beech snares had a very big and beefy and powerful sound. not a fan of the bubinga snares either. but they all have a very good sound and what i like is that they all have a very distinctive voice. each of them. canopus makes exquisite snare drums. i think they might make the best sounding snares overall. they are majestic.
The sidestick at 15:08 is the best I've ever heard!
Nothing beats Canopus in their price range (standard models). Such a complex and rich timbre! Will definitely be saving up for one. For me I mostly prefer the punchier, purer sound of Sonor´s Prolite/SQ2/Designer 5”x14” and 6”x14” vintage and maple light shells with die-cast hoops. I´ve had my Designer kit since 97 and have never been tempted to go elsewhere.
I own a Canopus RFM 5 pc Studio in Ebony Lacquer one of my most beautiful sounding kits I have a one off snare from Dunnett it’s beautiful. That said looks like I need to break open the piggy bank and grab one of these snares from Canopus I like the Maple and the Black fade Afara. I guess I just need to click the link and order happy 😃 hunting
The Stave Bubinga and Gloss Birdseye Maple!
You can't go wrong with any of these but my favorites were the bubinga snares ESPECIALLY the last one.
These guys know how to make you spend your money. Nice selection
Thanks for watching, Ramon.
Drum Center of Portsmouth Thanks for going out on a limb and bringing that product here from Japan . I’m sitting here now trying to figure out how to justify another snare to my wife lol guess I’ll just sneak it in as usual
All great snares👍 I have the 5.5x14” The Maple after Shane’s recommendation 4 years ago and it is the best snare drum I’ve owned wouldn’t ever part with it. I have The Birch kit with a custom 20x17” just curious as to how you have your Birch bass drum set up (20x16” right?) - heads , muffling, kick pedal and beater type . Many thanks
They’re gorgeous drums, but I would NEVER spend more than $650 for ANY snare!! Until someone can consistently tell the difference between $650 and $1,650 in a BLIND LISTENING TEST, I’m sticking with my Tama Starphonics, SLPs, Mapex, Gretsch Full Range, etc. I’d much rather have TWO for the price of ONE Canopus, N&C, etc. And, don’t get me started on ply vs solid vs stave. Who can tell the difference?!?! We all purchase with our EYES and our BUDGET.
LOVE the videos!! We rely on them for fabulous information.
For me the Ash Drum was really nice and also the maple. I’d love to hear them in a shootout with similar hoops and tunings.
For me was Chestnut and then Maple
Since I can't decide on 1....I want them all!
8 lugs > 10 lugs. Dope snares!
Bloody hell!!!! What a sounnnnnddddd!!!
Dang, there all different and rich in tone. I wish my left was like my right. Still gotta ways to go. I even try opening doors with my left hand. I can see myself leading with my left hand but it’s only a visual right now. 😂
Maple on high tuning...very nice.
All of them
Świetna technika!
The maple was my fav. Would go perfect with my Canopus maple kit. Humm, maybe....
That was one of our favorites, as well! Perfect tone AND response.

Canopus One Of A Kind Bubinga Snare Drum 14x7 Matte Natural
I know not terribly important, but I can’t wait for them to redesign their logo and badges.
I know this video is from 2019, but have you guys changed your room mics or the way the drums are mixed? Whenever room mic mode is on, I can now hear more clearly the sound of the snare whereas in the past it used to sound rather generic....it´s either that or I´m developing my ears with the abundance of videos you guys make. Stay strong DCP!
We try and get a little better each day! Thanks for watching.
If not for the exchange rate that beech/walnut would be on its way to me right now.
Do you guys use Drumdials? If so what are your tension settings for low, medium, and high tuning? I usually tune my snare batter 85-90 and reso 75. The snares you demo always sound so good and I was just wondering what tension they are set at.
We do not, we tune them by ear. We'll be doing a new snare tuning video soon!
Drumcenter could yo do a review about mapex kits? Or the difference between tama walnut/birch and Mapex Saturn please
can you guys do a tama S.L.P series, it would be awesome!
nice wood sound from wooden rim
Damn, a lot of snares! I really couldn't pick one, if I did it would be one of the deeper ones. Still hard to pick. Luvin the company the more I watch. Btw, never seen a mic pointing at the shell before.? Curious.
Our audio guy is a mad scientist. We're always trying to find new ways to capture the true sound of the drum in the room. This actually worked really well!
Great Sounds, but anyway we can just hear the snare first by its lonesome then attack other drums, please? Thanks.
I feel sorry for that Beech kit having to follow the two best sounding drums in this video.
I don’t know what impresses me more the drums or the drummer..
Why bother with vintage drums when you can buy incredible drums & cymbals made today?
