This is the reason why we're so critical of these award shows. Because every year, the Grammy's feel the need to remind us that like with everything ELSE, WE don't control SHIT, and OUR opinion is not as relevant as theirs. Her album is three years old. She should have been nominated in 2016. SZA had multiple mixtape before but that is not an album. Most artist do have mixtapes released before studio albums. There is no hypocrisy. Every single other artist in that category released their first album in 2017.
I only heard of Sza when she released Ctrl in 2017, that's when she broke through to the mainstream. I heard of Alessia Cara in 2015 when she released Here which was a huge hit. So I think Sza was a better fit for this catehory than Alessia, but she won because she had more successful hits.

Y’all half the people in the category including Sza aren’t NEW artists. Meaning they’ve released music before I mean albums. I don't know you personally but I am so happy that you are living your dreams. You have inspired me so much and have taught me so many things. I also want to do music but I never thought that I could because I'm not from a big a city and I thought that I wouldn't get noticed. You have showed me that it doesn't matter where you are from. Just because an artist talks about suicide doesn't make them deserving. Logic did and his album was trash. She has talent but not anything like SZA who I can only relate to Lauryn hill but that's just the sound of her music. The feeling is totally and undeniably different than anyone . Alessia has a generic sound that comes out of really anyone that has some talent. And her ideas are very basic.

Well deserved:) .. if anyone is paying close to culture trends you can see where music is headed and its very exciting! Suprisingly younger folks are dressing nicer, music ownership due to streaming is at an all-time low thus pushing up Live Events and entertainment, and popular music of today is incorporating more major 7th chords... Also, look at some of these music videos.. Put any of these pieces together and you'll figure out that jazz is coming back with hints of hip-hop. And is it a coincidence that the (roaring) 2020s are just around the corner?
