You can forget this current administration enforcing transparency on leather products. Why? Because they are 100% invested in the green hysteria and they are not going to go against anything that is perceived to be green. Which is ironic since they don’t hesitate to regulate anything that moves.

    • @FoCoBuzz

@@CarCoachReportsThey should. Instead of all the other stuff they regulate, as you have documented, transparency should be one of the few things they should regulate. Then let the market decide. But do you really think this administration, despite its meddling FTC, will do anything to go against a product perceived to be green? Maybe I’m cynical, but I don’t think any chance that will happen.

I feel Audi does a decent job; if you opt for the “fine nappa leather” the entire seating surface is genuinely that.
Though other parts of the car get alcantara or leatherette such as the center console or door trim. To be fair when you upgrade - it is only for the seats - so they aren’t necessarily withholding information, and the other surfaces are described on the sticker.
All in all - not the worst compared to some other luxury brands

Thanks for another great video, that exposes the inconvenience truth.. I totally agreed leatherette is pure virtual signalling. My previous German cars. Both Audi 8P A3 and BMW E46 320i's leatherette have cracks only within a few years of ownership. They are pure garbage and environmentally unfriendly. They are a PITA to fix when I bought them to "leather" shop, while dealers have no idea how to deal with them. On the other hand, I have owned a couple of Camry with leather seating surface, All of them are XLE, BTW. They are as reliable as the brand itself. It looks like my current Subaru Impreza's leather seating surface will last that long. But I am unsure of Crosstrek Wilderness's leatherette (as Subaru claims, for outdoorsy's ease of cleanliness and durability, though).

Who does NOT know that these are Vinyl/Plastic/Plant based interiors? Is the general consumer really that uneducated about car’s interior material?
This lady speaking is unaware of BMW’s actual interior packaging. SansaTec and SensaFin are usually base interior materials and they are KNOWN to be man made materials (i.e. NOT leather). Also cloth interiors are more than likely made with polyesters and not actual natural fibers such as wool, or cotton. So unless one is buying leather for sure, it more than likely be a polymer.
Also, she is NOT a scientist and here she is talking about microplastics. Microplastics pose some level of hazards, but they have yet to be understood to the levels to certainly say, they will kill you as she eluded to with the corpse cut and plastics found inside. Microplastic are more prone in the food industry from heating plastics and releasing some of that into the foods. I get it she pushes leather because she works for the leather industry. I love leather and I use and own a lot of leather items and my cars have leather interiors, but I also not push nonsensical things like seating on plastics will cause health issues and vinyl interiors have been used since the 1950s.
Leather is a fantastic natural material. It’s breathable, its flexible, its long lasting! It does need more care to keep them lasting long!
None of these man made materials are advertised as leathers. So I am not sure where and why this video claims these are facts.

Well, it's quite obvious that when they don't openly state "leather" you're not getting pure unadulterated leather. The average consumer simply never questions the fancy names they use, or somehow can't comprehend that vegan leather cannot be leather at all.
What's really sad is that you're spending more and more on a new vehicle and getting more and more toxic and environmentally damaging materials. Everything from actual construction materials to the chemicals lubricating and cooling the vehicle's systems is less environmentally friendly and poses more health risks.
Years ago when I worked at a Chevy dealership, I'd ask our local mobile upholstery guy who had the best leather in their vehicles and he quickly responded, BMW. It's a shame that those days are gone.
