IS300 JDM Power Folding Mirrors, LED Tail Lights and TapTurn Signals, Engine Start

- I've been meaning to put together a video showing off the JDM mirrors that I finished installing. Since they are from Japan, I had to convert them from RHD to LHD by switching the bases. Mounting the mirrors was the easy part.... wiring was a nightmare. But it wasn't hard for me, pretty straightforward actually, just needed to put in several hours of work to rewire the car. The video shows the LEDs from all angles, and shows how they fold. PS the passenger side folds in even more, nearly touches the window. The mirror surfaces themselves are blue-tinted to reduce glare, and the mirrors are wide-angle blind spot eliminating. Definitely a nice upgrade all around, and it sure is unique!
TapTurn is the signal relay flasher that gives me the strobing hazard lights, wig wag hazards, 1-touch signals, etc. You can check out one of my other videos to learn more about it.
The tail lights were also just recently installed. They are now painted black inside, and you can see the new LED DRL strips that I added. A bit more hard to tell, but I also replaced all of the LEDs inside (for the brake light) so that their brightness and quality is hugely improved. You can watch the older Demo V.1 video to see the difference.
Finally, the car actually has an exhaust on it this time around lol. It's the cheap Manzo ebay exhaust from Ebay for $200. But it's actually the only exhaust I liked both the look and sound of, the price was just icing on the cake! The Dezod green headers and SRT intake are still in and working great. The sound isn't too loud, but definitely sounds refined and strong.
Note that the car is still under construction, the head lights and lip kit are getting rebuilt. 2015 is gonna be exciting!!

Those mirrors are pretty cool but I really don't get it haha. Man I just love this car, I really regret selling mine. Everything about the body of the IS300 just seems so perfect to me, it's got the right lines and curves at the right places. I wish Lexus would make the new IS sedans based off of this one cause the new ones are so bulbous looking. I ran mine up to about 160,000 miles before I got rid of her too and she still ran strong as hell. Are you planning on doing anything besides the intake and headers? I had the SRT intake on mine too but I don't really think it did anything, if I remember correctly the turbochargers for it are a bit hard to find nowadays.
What do you not get about the mirrors? Was the video not enough lol. Thanks! Yeah I'm never gonna sell it, I'll drive it until it dies. It is the perfect, timeless design, and doesn't need much help to look even better. Just intake and headers and exhaust for now, I'd get in too much trouble if I boosted it lol, but they are local here, so you never know...
gold94corolla Lol I just didn't really know that people installed those things on their cars. I felt the same way about mine but I didn't take good enough care of it to warrant keeping it in it's condition. All I can do now is watch videos of people like you who have nicer ones and hope I can get enough cash to buy another before they become hard to find. If you live in an area that uses road salt you should make sure that the bottom of it doesn't rust. Mine was lowered so it made it even worse cause rocks and shit would hit the sill in front of the rear tires and that area just rusted away within a year on both sides after I first noticed the rust. I can't really tell if yours is lowered or not because of that front bumper kit you have. I honestly think that if you take care of an IS300 well enough, you can be driving it 20-30 years from now no problem with the stock engine and even longer if you drop a new engine in it.
Lima Yeah my car is as low as it can go lol. Lots of road salt here, it killed my last car's body. Oh well, so far so good here. Oh, and people don't install these things on the cars, because these mirrors are the only ones that anyone has ever seen lol. They're rarer than rare lol. So I had to have them. And of course, they are much cooler than stock.
These mirrors are great when you park in tight places and some European countries where roads are tighter. I have actually hit someone's side view mirror before because the roads were so tight. 😊

Gaurds/fender mods? Wheel setup. Has really good stance and those lights just set it off
Thank you! The fenders are stock, just rolled and pulled a little to fit. Same with the front splash guards, I cut a wedge out to fit the top of the tires. Wheels are WORK Emotion Kiwami (CR Ultimate) 18x8.5 30mm offset front, 18x9.5 30mm offset rear. Tires are Hankook Tires 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear.

Pls install the load resistor to avoid hyper flash or malfunction due to led bulbs draw much less current than stock lamp.

How did you get the switchbacks configured? Did you convert to DRLs then get the Triton HDRL kit or did you just plug them in?
Well, I disabled the stock DRL completely, and with the switchbacks, I had to wire the extra circuit wire (for the white LEDs) to my own switch, which gets power from the radio ACC.

Yeah, I'm about to start my LED project. It's a simple DRL, but I'd like to do my tail lights in the future. After seeing your write-up, it's more work than I can deal with, lol.
yeah, tbh I'll never do those tail lights again... ugh. Too much work. Good luck on the DRL though :) The Triton bulbs were the best option for me, no need to do a lot of work for it
I would probably get Lightwerkz to do my tails if they still did them. I'm not into dremeling/hotknifing my tails. Yeah, my DRL is simple in that it requires no soldering. I took those 3W bullet LEDs and put them in a mini gatling shroud. I'm going for a small Q45 look. I'll be sure to post it on HIDP.

Thanks! The turn signals are Tritons from V-LEDs. Front are switchbacks, rears are just regular amber.

How did you set up your DRLs to be on the outside edge of the lights?
Easy.. just disable the high beam DRL, then run a new switch for the outside lights
What’s the specks on your wells like what rims size are you running in the front and rears and what kind of exhaust do you have I love the sound it makes
wheels are 18". 8.5" wide front, 9.5" rear. 30 mm offset. Fenders rolled/pulled. Exhaust is in the description, full dezod headers and cheap $200 ebay exhaust, went by the name "Manzo" back then.

Hey I saw your right up about those taillights , I jus grabbed a set also and I ran into 2 issues , 1 was fitment , 2nd was one side of the led ( right side ) when just turned on doesn't light up but when I press the brakes it works fine , any idea what might be the issue ? Any help would be great thanks !
Jon Put Hmm I'm not sure about the fitment, because my car is all messed up from accidents, so they fit perfectly for me lol. As for lighting up, I'm not sure, you're just gonna have to diagnose it with some common sense I guess!

Hey there, the mirrors came like that, they are "Modellista" and have an extra cover with the signal built in over top of the regular JDM mirrors. I had to do the wiring myself.
Gotta ask where in the world did u find those side view mirrors and wire them up to fold in and out for street parking?

Thanks Rob! Those are JDM Modellista mirrors, which I converted to use in the USA. Wiring was a nightmare lol, but they worked eventually

Ricardo Sostre the tail lights originally came from Ebay Taiwan, but then I completely redid them myself. The signals are V-LEDs trition, as it says all over the place lol

The LED strips I've had on my cars for 10 years, it's very simple. It's just your regular black thin flexible strip with sticky back. Peel and stick. Wires run behind the door panel and connect to wherever. I ran mine up to the ignition key light so they'd come on and off with the dome light. Ran the wires over the hinges.

Jose Orozco I opened them up and redid the lights inside and painted and all that stuff. Not just something anyone can do unless you know what you're doing. I have years of experience. And yes, I have lots of custom wiring on the car for everything

Thanks! in this video, there is no body kit installed, just a front lip. That front lip is typically referred to as the Greddy lip. These days, you can find hundreds of them easily all over ebay.

Thank you! The tail lights were sourced on Ebay from Taiwan back in the day, but are now very easy to find. I then personally opened the lights , replaced all of the LEDs and built my own , and painted them dark inside.

They sure would be a nice addition. The base tail lights can be found on Ebay, but I opened them up and painted them and put in my own LEDs.

That is a modified/custom grille. But, it was inspired by certain European and Altezza grilles, which this started as. The only thing I did was add the L to the middle from my stock grille.

the plug on the mirrors? Yes, I swapped the JDM mirrors to bolt on with USA parts, including the plugs

Yeah those are the same lights I have, just smoked instead of red. The hardest part is getting them open, but if you can, then you can see what I did on the my.is forum to figure out the rest lol

That is the stock spoiler. The tail lights were purchased off of Ebay from Taiwan years ago, and then I opened them up and painted and installed LEDs

Hey there, I ended up selling the car in 2020 for a hybrid, just before the car and gas prices blew up. Lighting was one of my passions, so I made/customized them myself. @@kevinporter9444 Yeah the IS is a great car and was my dream car, and I'm glad I had one for 10 years. But, it's an old car by now, and I've gotten older and have newer priorities. So I nearly gave the car to someone who could appreciate the effort and work. But if you can find one with low miles and in good shape these days, I'd say go for it! I'm in Maryland.

@@kevinporter9444 Alas, I'm definitely no expert on the L-tuned version. I think it was just some appearance stuff though like body kit and badging. But if you found one for 100k miles that looks good, I'd go for it. I got mine in 2011 with 117k, so 100k is nothing these days.

Well, you do replace the door switch, with the one that comes with the mirrors. It has the button to fold them, none of the USA cars do. But every set of mirrors I've seen has also included the switch. The hard part is figuring out all the wiring
