Maybe for anime only fans, Eren did seem like an angry damsel in distress during s1-s3 getting kidnapped or crushed by his own weakness, lots of people got sacrificed for his survival. Until the Marley invasion arc happened, thats where we can see how much Eren grew up and mature, and i think its one of his greatest turning point from all the sufferings and lessons built up from the very beginning of the story.
Rexcy Jones yeah i agree he that he somewhat got a character development but when you think about it in the flashbacks when he was a kid and even at the very beginning deep down he was always the same. He wants freedom, he never really changed

*this comment consists mostly of spoilers, so if you havent read the manga yet and dont wanna be spoiled, you shouldnt read this comment* I love Eren. He never really changed, since the beginning his goal was the same but he never knew how to go about achieving that goal. thats why he cried and was in despair the first 3 seasons but after the end of season 3 he sees the future, the past and the present, he knows there is only 1 way to achieve his goal and he will not falter in realizing his goal in obtaining not only his true freedom but also everyone elses. If anyone read the manga then you might think "but eren is literally taking away their freedom by doing what he is currently doing in the manga" but i disagree, he told them they are free to stop him if they have what it takes. However he will not give up on his freedom to help others, he just tells them if you want me to stop you will have to make me stop, you are free to do so. Him wanting to save his island instead of the rest of the world is only obvious and most people who disagree are just lying to themselves, if most people really were as good as that then there would be no discrimination, hunger or any other negative things happening...but they still are and they always will. They just dont wanna admit that they can understand Eren because they are afraid of being seen as weird or freaks when they can sympathize with someone so cruel. I have so much more to say about the genius of Eren Jäger but this comment is long enough lol
Personally I think that is part of it but also I think he gave them the freedom of stopping him so that when they do cause I think Eren believes that they can stop him and if they do the world will look at the people on paradis differently and they will be called heroes

First time I've seen the anime version of Bystander since chapter 121. Goddamn, the way Grisha tells Eren to avenge his mother... he may have told Zeke to stop Eren, but that's when he decided to give Eren his Titans.
I think the events changed, I think Grisha originally only gave Eren the attack, and with Eren manipulating Grisha he got the Founding too so that Eren can use it to initiate the Rumbling.
He was so beautifully written that you love him but also want to hate him at the same time

He never changed indeed, which is why AoT is shaping to be a tragic arc (i.e. a character who doesn't change, doesn't overcome thier fatal flaw, and therefore will lose what's at stake). If the thematic goal of the story is "only sacrifice can lead to true freedom" (which, given all the events, really seems to be), then Eren has failed at that. Eren hasn't been able to make the sacrifice of compromising his worldview--his only goal has always been his dream of a free, empty world, open to him and his friends. He ain't giving up on that, he didn't even compromise a tiny bit of it (whereas we see Erwin and Armin compromising on their dream and helping the Eldians make a big step towards freedom), and this will be his downfall. Sure, he loves his friends and is also making this for them, but his desire is--in large part--selfish, which is why it's really poignant. Eren claims to want freedom, but he is prisoner of his dream, because he can't compromise on/sacrifice it. And this isn't to say that AoT isn't a good story. AoT is an amazing story; tragic arcs can be amazing stories.

Nothing, because since the beginning Eren has only fought against humans to protect those he loved, yes he is selfish.
