Not even likely. The problem with Sony gaming is the PS5 gen will not exceed, and current projections have the PS5 not even meeting last gen sales numbers (millions less the PS4) Add with console overall expenses are increasing (i.e. build, development all to market costs) the math isn't good for investors. So this means operating income for gaming will be drawn down gen over gen. Revenue (chest pumping number) is up only because Sony has raised prices on everything (hardware, software, services). The profits up not so much. The decline in sales (and lower adoption in services and software) will in turn reflect in the growth in platform profits. This is the failure, not that the console itself failing overall. Investors like to see growth and see returns (i.e. dividends) and that leads to them driving up the stock price. This again is a failure that affects Sony as stock price for the company is down in large part because investors are not seeing growth potential for gaming. Sony market cap (as of June 18th) is down almost 32% since its high of $152 billion 2 1/2 years ago and with a current market cap of $104 billion they are down 14.8% just since February when it was ~$122 billion. You see no movement upwards in stock price even after Sony's most recent quarterly comes in with good numbers because investors see the issues aren't changing. But make no mistake Sony gaming makes cash (even if realization is down). Going third party where they aren't making a console will never happen as long as the profit return is there. It is for the same reason Xbox was never leaving hardware and going to be full third-party and the fact is for both most of the money taken for either is based on that 30% cut they make off of other publishers (not money first-party) and adding the 30% cut off the MTs sold beyond that. Additional revenue in services (i.e. paying for online play) represents close to 30% for Xbox and PS post console sale revenue and it returns higher profits. That goes away without either making hardware. You aren't making up for that by dumping hardware and going only third-party. What will happen to get that growth for Sony gaming is the same path correction that is going to happen (has happened) with Microsoft gaming and that is pushing everything they release to PC and do it day and date. That is the best return possibility for Sony without really affecting hardware sales negatively. Secondly, like Microsoft gaming, you will see Sony gaming pushing select first-party content everywhere and that includes competing console platforms. With this we are again talking day and date. I wouldn't be surprised if Spider-Man 3 is day and date on PC. If not also day and date on Xbox and Switch 2 then coming to the competing console platforms within a year after release but not exclusive just to PS console. Sony will do this this with a variety of other first-party content as well. Some content, content that defines PS, of course will always remain away from PS direct competition Xbox and Switch (i.e. GOW). Both Hiroki Titoki (COO/CFO of Sony proper and former short-term SIE CEO) and the released Insomniac documents both directly noted this as direction to grow Sony gaming overall. Again investors and stock value is Sony proper's main concern not PS fanboys feelings. I am sure some at SIE are fighting back because they are about PS first and foremost but Sony proper will force this direction in the end. Side note, in any case for Spider-Man, Disney likes money and with declining adoption numbers for that game their return is lower and exposure to the overall character IP is lower. I can see just this game alone getting the same push Sony received from MLB with The Show IP and that was to go multi-plat or loose the license. With SM3 having a development budget of $350 million, which doesn't include marketing ($100 to $200 million for that) you are looking at a game that will never make money (or barely be in the black best-case scenario). Again, Sony proper, like Disney, is driven by bigger profits and so are investors of Sony (leading back to the original statement of the PS5 not being a success). But I regress make no mistake Sony is just a little slow reacting to the inevitable. They want growth and growth is not staying the course in a static console market As for hardware sales. The depreciated sales in hardware are the result of the overall success of console numbers for the PS4 gen and this is affected by a few things that are driving down adoption numbers this gen. One is the worldwide economic issues and that affects Sony (and Nintendo) more than it does Xbox at this point. because they sell in regions much more affected by the current economic issues. Mobile is made up casuals. And most gamers on consoles are casuals. So a good percentage of those PS4s sold are just not used in much larger numbers now and for those that are still playing on that PS4 they bought they don't see a value proposition because the play Fortnite, Minecraft, COD, EA FC, 2K BB, Madden and those are all still being supported on PS4. Plus, these next-gen non-committed buyers (like many that even have bought a PS5) aren't seeing real next gen games with that $500+ investment gives you. And all this affects drawing in new (never owned) PS buyers to a PS5. I believe Nintendo will be in the same situation for the overall sales of a Switch 2. Nintendo's current success will not be replicated next gen and definitely. Well like PS they will not exceed or even meet their current gen numbers. This doesn't mean they won't make a lot of money and sell a lot of consoles. But they will not be selling as many consoles. That again is not growth. Most of the same issues apply here as well: economic issues, mobile, value proposition not met. Many gamers have Switches just sitting there collecting dust having moved on to mobile. For example, I have two Switches one for me and one for my kids to play. And my kids haven't touched their Switch in a couple of years. They are all on their phones and tablets. I haven't touched mine in a year (of course O will get one because I buy every piece of hardware but not buying one for my kids)

Man it bugs me out to know I've seen this coming talking about how people are still on their XBOX ONES and PS4 and haven't switched to the PS5 or the XBOX Series X/S consoles. Once the economy went to shit & then covid hit. I knew the video game industry was gonna suffer. There are like 50% of PS4 and XBOX ONES owners that both SONY and Microsoft would like to have buy their consoles, but nobody's buying. Granted there has been a report that Amazon saw a 200% increase in XBOX Series X sales as well as GameStop. I hope things change for the better for the whole entire gaming industry.
Joey is right, there really is no compelling reason to buy a PlayStation. You’ll get more value within the Xbox ecosystem, including PlayStation PC ports.. PS output is only 1 game a year anyway, maybe 2. I’m going on 31 years not owning a PlayStation, I’m happy to keep the streak alive 🥳😂

I bought ps5 slim digital free Spider-Man 2 on sale at Best Buy for $400 in march because of the exclusive content of PS5 and I don’t care of the graphics even though it looks nice and Xbox series S I bought because I want to play games on game pass and I want to play exclusive content too like gears 5 and love it and better old games then PlayStation because it I play them allready since ps1

I thought last year's Xbox Showcase was great (9 out of 10). This year's Xbox Showcase took it to the next level, with an excellent Showcase (10 out 10 in my opinion). Great to see Black Ops 6 leading off the Showcase ✅️ With about half the games shown also going to GamePass Day One, this highlights just how great GamePass really is.
