Nick, so glad you're producing content again! Rather than a comment, I have a question. I have become saddened by my own deteriorating physical condition and realize I have little time to prepare. Some background on me: 66 years old Recovering from rotator surgery on my strong side (6/7/20) Recovering smoker/COPD Full time employee @ Lowes ProService/BldgMat associate Contractor/Laborer entire adult life I was sidelined in March due to the Wuhan Wiggle and while framing a wall, I fell injuring my shoulder. Since then, despite staying active, I've watched my physical condition deteriorate. I'm going back to work August 4th on "light" duty but limited to 5lbs on my injured arm. Advised no pistol/rifle/shotgun for another 6-8 weeks by my surgeon and PT. When cleared, I want to embark on Recruit Conditioning. Missus thinks I'm nuts but I need the fitness training for my own sense of pride and wellbeing. And for the heightened activities that may crescendo around election time. I'm looking for guidance and advice from you. Perhaps you can find time to give me a response. I'ld be most fearful...Danny
Awesome video Nick! I’ve been meaning to ask, you mention mobility work a few times and I want to know aside from all the training leading up to any sort or selection, how important is mobility work from a recovery and performance standpoint? Of course, this includes younger and older guys/girls.
34:59 I know it must work because Nick's buddy there just basically answered a question for me right there that someone must be physically fit, good mental acumen, as well as "social competence". He says he not naming the names of other US Marines. Therefore there's no way in hell I'm putting that picture of myself shaking hands with that full bird colonel on social media, at least not without that individuals permission ...
Good evening, my son just shipped off for his 2 weeks of quarantine before heading to PI and what should I expect from here on end? By the way he is going infantry with goals of going recon then possibly Raiders.
My biggest thing is being a POG Marine, but still being interested in MARSOC. I’m not sure how that would go or what I would need to do in order to do that. I’ve been in for just over a year now so I know I have time.
Nick, fellow Recondo here. Where did you get the Gatorz (Recon Jack Logo) etched on to your glasses??? I noticed them on an earlier video and I remember one of my boys having them while still at 1st Recon. I'ts been a while. I figure I'd ask you, ill be asking my boys too.
I suck so hard at land nav. Never failed it because I'd just go off of the map, like curves in a road, empty spots and heavy spots in vegetation, ect. Along with that I know that I could be dropped in a damn dessert with none of that shit. Will MARSOC training go more heavily into making sure you figure it before field testing it. Or just throw you in the ringer expecting you to know well how to do it from Boot Camp and MCT?
I have a question about the officer side of Recon and MARSOC. When I research Recon and MARSOC it’s almost exclusively from the enlisted side. You touched on how the enlisted side are the professional warfighters while the officers only stay on a team for a year or two. I would like to be more of a warfighter than leader. However I was awarded the Marine Corps NROTC scholarship so it would be stupid to enlist, but that’s not really what I envisioned doing in the Marine Corps. So my question is what would your advice be in my situation and also can you explain more about what the life of a MARSOC or Recon officer is like? Thank you!
Hey nick, I was wondering if I could get a question answered if possible. So my fiancé and I have been engaged for a little over a year now and been together for 5, were both 20 and have civilian careers lined up for ourselves but my real passion lays within the military. Every year In elementary school and middle school we were shown the videos of 9/11 and after every year my drive became stronger for it. I told myself “I’m going to do whatever I can to help make sure that it never happens again. My mother will not die begging for her life.” And all through those younger years I was always looking deeper into the marine core, started becoming fascinated with everything they stand for, and even developed a dream for a life long career. My plan was to enlist as soon as I graduated highschool. When I first met my fiancé she didn’t know anything about it, but when I was 18 and told her my plan she said she wouldn’t want to continue along by my side if that were the path I chose, so being stupid I told her I wouldn’t go. But the thing is for years I’ve continued to think about it everyday, there’s not one day that goes by that I don’t think about the marines. I’ve never felt more passionate about anything else. So later on in life I proposed to her and we picked out our wedding date, we have everything planned out, finally I was thinking “maybe now that were going to get married, she’s feeling a lot more serious about me, maybe she’ll hop on board” so I talked to her about it 2 weeks ago and it ended up with her telling me she would leave me and id be on my own. Basically what I’m asking is... is it worth it? Trading love for my dream? If I don’t go I know I’ll regret it for the rest of my life. But if I do, I might not find love like hers ever again. I know you’re not a therapist but I don’t know what to do man. Thank you
Hey dude I know you aint asking me, but I'm an older man and feel I have some wisdom I can impart upon you. If you really want to do your duty and be of service to your country, DO IT! You sound like its something you want. It's something that you can be apart of thats bigger than you and that's very honorable. She should support you, and since you're saying she wont you will possibly resent the hell out of her in the future. You sound young and there's no need for you to rush to get married especially if it could be the wrong one. Remember there are plenty of fish in the sea, you found her and you'll find more. Good Luck !!
Hey Nick. Hope you are well brother! I grew up in Florida to. Hope your Situation with the gym works out. I don't live in Florida anymore either. I know from one of your videos that you are in NC. Unfortunately that state has a lot of backwoods, hater types. Not telling you what to do by any means. But, You might consider a Strategic move. Perhaps to one of the state's that truly Honor Veterans. I am sure that one Police officer who was giving you crap over your Gym, was a true hater! He probably knew about your young adult life. Prior to you getting into The Marines. And the fact that you were considered the "Cream of the Crop", And he didn't have what it takes to be the Tip of the Spear! He was jealous and a True Hater. Anyway, Hope you are healthy and doing awesome! Stay strong man.
I was aviation mechanic when i tried out for Marsoc, back before they got approved for “raiders”. For selection, it didn’t matter one bit. It’s a physically demanding few weeks. How fast can you run swim and ruck, obviously a lot of other things happen at selection that the general pop isn’t privy to. But i was physically prepared by all means. Mentally is a different story. MOS mattered very little. I saw admin guys that were killers and i saw infantry guys drop as much as others.
Mad respect to the Raider community. But for me, the only thing I’ve noticed about most Raiders I’ve met is that they have blown up heads about themselves. Raiders love to tell everyone they are a Raider once they get some alcohol in their system. I’ve rolled my eyes one too many times in the bars around 29 palms due to some cringe conversations with Raiders. Maybe I just meet all the boot Raiders..
Ya... being a raider comes with some bragging rights. Props to the humble. But I wouldn’t look down on anyone that is proud to share how badass they are
I know probably silly question but can I be a raider as a linguist such as a 2674 or also my friend is just out of mos school he is a 2111 can he go marsoc?
Coming from an aviation mechanic mos, how much could my trade actually be an asset? Granted we have side billets such as team leader and CDI. And vast knowledge on the maintenance side of the military. It's mostly aircraft related.
I tried out for Marsoc, i was a CDI/QASO on harriers. For selection, it didn’t matter much at all. I obviously can’t speak for anything passed that. and tbh selection should your one and only concern. I knew guys that made it through the pipeline that were former recon, all the way to admin. My one buddy was a V-22 mech, cdi. He made it.
