One of the best reasons why I watch you is your personality. You are a truly sweet person and I think I have watched you from your first podcast. Love your handwork. Take care
I will have to check Lichen and Lace yarn when I go to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia next summer. I see it is also available at the Knitting Loft in Toronto which is about an hour away from me.
I understand your feelings about fall and winter perfectly. I'm from the Irwin/Jeannette area originally and at the age of 41, I moved myself and 3 children to VA. I've been here 25 years now, but I do miss a lot of things back home and yes PA will always be my home.
Yes, if you're from Jeannette you would definitely understand because we're not far from there and get the exact same weather! I love Virginia. I always enjoy visiting and even just driving through the state. It's a very beautiful state!
I just found your podcast two days ago and I’ve been looking looking your podcasts on and off throughout today it’s been so nice! Even nicer to have this episode now. You have such a positive and calming attitude, watching you brings me so much peace. I love it
I'm knitting the exact same color of Patons Kroy socks as yours. They are my second ever pair of socks and this time I'm knitting both at the same time. I'm almost at the heel, top down. My husband's pair was from the black, dark gray and light gray colourway. I made his using 54 stitches, I think, and they turned out quite oh. He eats size 13 extra wide shoes.
I recently found your podcast referred through The Fruitful Hands podcast (which I enjoy so much). The pumpkin color is fabulous on you. I help out with the wool production on our sheep farm (not soft, cozy; but Wensleydale, Leicester Longwool, although I have made strong wearing sweaters from it and no pilling!) You are lucky to have the perfect top build for such a beautiful design! I love fall winter best. Too hot in the summer and mud messy on the farm in the spring! I live in northern MN most of the time and there are still nice reasonable people left here btw; always feel like I am apologizing for the craziness of our state, which is mostly in the TC's. So very much am enjoying going back and watching your pods. Thank you SO much.
I enjoyed listening to this while knitting very much, a few times I stopped to rewatch. I mostly knit to audiobooks but I’m trying to work in a few RUclips listens too. Loved your projects and hearing about your reads and your garden too. You have a very calm manner and I am enjoying your channel a lot. I’m mostly an accessory knitter and am going to take a look at the Roadrunner Cowl, love the asymmetrical style and that pretty trim. The sweater you are wearing is gorgeous!
Hi Amber this year I bought some square knitting needles. I have arthritis in my hands and since last year I’m dealing with tendonitis on two fingers. I have used the US 1 for socks. I got a US 3 as well and using it for a hat. I find that are a bit easer on my hands but so are wooden needles. Thank for your podcast.
Ya know that one choice you can get in some surveys that's' neither agree or disagree'? That's how I am about square needles. I am using them during this podcast on my Reagan sweater. I think they may feel a tad more comfy in my hands tho. I also love lichen and lace yarns and have used some in the past.
For several years six of us knitters spent a week in June on emerald is and loved it! The highlight of our trip was spending the days at The Salty Sheep with Peggy and her great gals who knit there. You are right! Both her shops are the cutest I’ve ever been in! Her selections of yarn patterns buttons etc are the best. She has always carried addi needles exclusively. We wonder if it has to do with the humid salty air but don’t really know. Such fun to listen to you talk about a place that is so dear to my heart. New to your podcast, Penny from Indiana
It was so lovely to catch up with you Amber! I'm glad you had a peaceful, restful vacation! We just went on a beach vacation in Orange Beach, AL and it wasn't quite as relaxing toting a one-year-old along. He certainly still enjoyed himself at the beach but the long car rides are more challenging with little ones. 😄 Your Arboreal sweater is beautiful! I love the colors you chose for it. I may need to look at it and see if it's something I have the yarn for. Although I am right with you in running extra warm these days. My mum and I laugh about how we're experiencing very similar symptoms but on opposite sides of the motherhood journey. Ever since being pregnant and now nursing I am so much warmer than I used to be. I really need to knit more cardigans as well so I'm enjoying hearing you share about the ones you've been making or planning to make. 🥰
Hello Emily! I remember the days of vacationing with little ones. They definitely are more exhausting than vacationing with teenagers and young adults! It's so funny what our hormones can do to us, isn't it? I really do prefer knitting and wearing pullovers, but, as I have said, cardis are much easier to quickly take off when a hot flash appears out of nowhere!
Another lovely episode 🧡 Thank you Amber for the inspiration as always! Listening to you talk about winding your skein in the car made me feel more normal 😆 I can’t count the times I’ve been impatient and hand wound a ball in the car and it’s been a disaster 🙈 I always wonder what I look like to people driving by 😅 But when the inspiration hits I just can’t wait to start!!
Hi Diana! That's great to know! I never mind the chit chat either in other podcasts, and usually enjoy hearing what everyone has been up to! It's nice to get a little glimpse into their lives! Thank you so much for watching!
I’m glad you talked about the books you read while you were away and also about Goodreads, which I will check out as I’m always looking for my next read😊
I know this is a knitting podcast but I enjoy hearing about your reading and your garden too. My garden is also still going and I'm like you, I don't want to tear anything out until it is dead. I just finished a book by Kate Morton called The Distant Hours. It started out a little slow but was really enjoyable. I also started reading a series by Victoria Thompson, it's the Gaslight Mystery series, I really like it. I'm knitting a Garter Squish blanket right now with Caron Simply Soft so that I can throw it in the washer and dryer. I'm holding two strands together and I tell you it is really squishy. I'm using 12 skeins and making it bigger then the pattern. This was a lovely episode and I really enjoyed spending time with you.
Hello! I also love hearing about what others are reading! That's why my book list keeps growing! Just like my pattern list! lol. I have enjoyed a couple of Kate Morton's books, but I haven't read that particular one. Your Garter Squish is going to be so cozy and lovely!
Hi Amber! I have used square knitpicks needles and kollage needles (square) as well, they're alright but wouldn't switch. FYI, Lichen and Lace have there own website.
NB is New Brunswick. Mailing costs are astronomical within Canada too, sadly. I have never tried Lichen and Lace, but will have to keep an eye out for it and give it a try. I had trouble pulling out my planters this fall too. I have left my coleus because it is just too glorious to pull out. Apparently, it is good to leave the flowers and such till spring, as insects can use it to nest in and eat in early spring. Love all your knitted projects. Look forward to seeing more .
Hi Jennifer! Thanks for all of the info and for watching! Some plants are also good to keep in because they feed the roots/bulbs and help build up the soil. I ended up getting all of my beds cleaned up and put to bed for the winter this past weekend. Cold, rainy weather seems to have arrived and has no plans on leaving any time soon.
I just subscribed to Lichen & Lace "sock train" (1 skein of sock yarn a month) and the shipping is free (I live in Oregon). The monthly subscription price is VERY reasonable, too.
Thank you so much for your lovely relaxing podcast, always a joy. I love all your colourwork jumpers, I am planning on doing the Autumn Alpine sweater by Caitlin Hunter, to be released 26 October, I made the 4 ply version and love it, so the worsted version will be my Christmas knit! Hope it’s ok to mention the C word, but I need lots of knitting time! Thanks again, very kind regards from a lovely autumn day here in the UK ☺️ x
Hello! I just saw that she released the Autumn Alpine! A worsted weight colorwork sweater is definitely better than a fingering weight one in my opinion! At least to knit. I'm not a huge fan of knitting colorwork in fingering weight yarn. Thank you so much for watching!
I love to chat with you because I feel the same about winter. We have an in ground pool in our yard and when it closes for the season, I just want to cry. I love the sweater you’re wearing - so lovely!❤
Hi there, Pam! My parents also have an in ground pool, and I feel the same way every year when we close it for the summer! We basically have around 7 months of weather that isn't my favorite here in PA, so I have decided that I need to learn to make the best of it and get a better attitude since I don't plan on moving! Lol. Thanks so much for watching!
I recently finished friend to friend shrug, and the Ziggy Triangle. I still have Stephen West 2023 MKAL clue 2 to finish and I'm test knitting a sweater for Tif Neilan. Thanks for sharing your projects with us.
I live south of Pittsburgh and understand what you say about gray winters in Pa. We have had some beautiful fall colors this year though. Your sweater is lovely and I enjoy your videocast.
Thank you for a lovely podcast and your knits. I am loving the sweater you are wearing. The Sophie Scarf is delightful and looked good on you. Your cast on's are exciting and suit you. I am just back from a holiday and trying to get back into a rhythm. Take care ❤😊
I would like to try square needles. I really like the sweater you're wearing, the leaves on it are really pretty. That peony colorway yarn is so so-ooo gorgeous! 😊
HI amber!!! So glad u had a great holiday with UR Family,,,,, Nice you got to the wool shop,,,Sounds lovely,,,, Love UR sweater u are wearing and one you are knitting,,,!!! Kroy is thicker to me too,,,,I also use 2.75mm,,,,or 3mm,,!! Lichen and lace is lovely,,,my local yarn shop carry her yarn,, She has a website,,, and shipping is expensive even in canada, to Canada,,,!!! So glad u got her yarn ,,,,,It's a treat and I usually get 2 pairs of socks or small shawl made from one skein,,,, Love the book, garden chat,,,,Too!!! Take care,,, ElaineXoxo 🍁🍁🍄🏡
Thanks for the info, Elaine! I LOOOOOVE Lichen & Lace. One of my viewers told me that if you order over a certain amount of yarn from her Etsy shop, you'll get free shipping. I tried it (without buying) and put three skeins in my cart and it qualified for free shipping.
Love your podcast! I got the square needles when they first came out. One thing is to check your gauge. A friend could not come up with the correct Guage. Just bought the pattern for them cowl and I had Rios just sitting here waiting to be knitted. Have a great week!
Hi Ruthann! Have fun knitting the Roadrunner! I think that maybe my gauge with the square needles is a bit larger than if I had been using regular needles, so I think I'm going to have to adjust the pattern a little.
Hi Amber! My new superpower is controlling the weather. This is the latest date in the year for us to hit 100 degrees. I’m sure it’s because I’ve been knitting wool sweaters since July. Go figure. We live in Arizona, so what did I expect. I’m currently working on the Dustland sweater by Stephen West for my husband. It’s been a fun knit. This is sweater number 7. The next one will be for me. Another one that will remain pristine for years to come. Oh well, I love my hobby. 🧶
Thanks for the tips on the Gloam! I have one kitted up and waiting in the rotation. I love my square needles. I find the stitch definition is noticeably better.
I loved hearing about the books you read while on vacation! I would love to know the audiobooks you listened to as well! I’m a big reader too and always have multiple books going. (And reading/listening pairs so well with knitting!) I would love it if you continued to share what you’ve been reading in future episodes.
Hi Amy! I also love hearing about what other people are reading. We actually listened to a couple of Artemis Fowl books while driving. Those are not books that I would choose to listen to on my own, but I had to find something for the whole family. We've been listening to the series on our various travels. I think we have two books left to go.
Im making a pair of socks in that color as well! Im living for it at this time of year! I find that I also have to cast on quite a few less stitches, and I use a size 3mm needle for patons. I kind of treat it as a light DK. But I love how wearable they are!
Hi Amber! Love tuning in to your podcast! If you are looking for a book recommendation I would suggest Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. Wonderful writing and the characters are so real and absolutely lovable!
it’s interesting to me. The different words we use in different areas of the country. You say “shore” and i immediately think lake shore. Not the ocean. We always said “coast” for the ocean and “shore” for lakes. I love how varied language is
I love listening to your podcast with my coffee here in Glasgow, Scotland. You do give me so much inspiration on my wee knitting journey. I have also knitted a number of sophie scarves and love the idea of having a straight edge along the middle area. How long did you make the straight edge and at what stage of no of stitches. I can see me having a lovely collection of scarves for the winter and some for presents too !
Hello Alison! Thank you so much! I usually knit between 8-10 inches of just plain stockinette to make the panel. I'm not sure how many increases I do because I hardly ever keep track, but the scarf is usually around 4.5 inches wide at the widest part. I hope that helps!
that is so cool that you came to Emerald Isle, I live in Beaufort and we go there all the time and eat at Rucker Johns ❤ also the beaches there are usually less crowded than atlantic beach which is closer to me. glad y’all had a good time here!
Hello! We usually always visit Beaufort when we go to EI, but we didn't this year. We did go to the Seafood Festival in Moorehead City on Sunday though. It was nice! It's funny you should mention Rucker John's because we ate their our second night.
@@alovelyyarn the best restaurant around here is Amos Mosquitos in Atlantic Beach. If you ever get the chance to go, get the boneless pork chops, they are amazing!! They were featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives Episode 30 of season 33, and in fact made the pork chops on the show. The gravy is AMAZING.
@jujumcnubbin My sister and her family have eaten there in the past. They mentioned it. We didn't even drive to that end of the isle this year which is unusual.
Hi Amber, hey one time I had a skein of yarn that just went into a huge knot and a total mess! And it was Malebrigo too! Sorry I don’t remember the spelling. But it was so bad that we had to spread it out on the dining room table, and it took ALL EVENING to untangle! I was ready to toss it, but my sweet husband did it! One hint that I found to work with a mess like that was to handle it very loosely, and kind of throw it down time after time. Throwing works. 😢😂😊
Hi Cassandra! Haha. I was sitting in the passenger seat of a car with my knees up and a yarn mess all around. Lol. I almost freaked out a couple of times, and then when I realized that I really had nothing better to do and it needed done anyway, I proceeded cautiously and got it done. It was stressful though!
I am behind on my goodreads challenge! I started knitting garments this year and it has thrown off my book game a little. I am trying to embrace audiobooks, but I am so picky with narrators. I would love it if you threw in some book talk once in a while. Gardening too. I think a lot of knitters also enjoy reading and plants/gardening. They just all seem to go together somehow. I am with you on not being able to tolerate sweaters in the house these days. I am 51, so yeah.... I am also not a fall/winter person, but maybe these hot flashes will help me embrace the colder seasons???
Hahaha! I have to say that the really hot humid days of summer are more of a struggle for me now. Humidity and high temps never used to bother me. Now I feel like I'm suffocating! Lol. I love to read physical books (or e-books) but I do use audiobooks a lot as well since I love to listen to one in the evening when I knit. I always try the sample of the book first to make sure that the author's voice isn't going to grate on my nerves. That sounds so horrible, but there are just some voices that get under my skin when I'm trying to relax. I have had to stop listening to some books because of that. I use Libby and am able to borrow a lot of audiobooks and ebooks that way, so it's really a great way to have a access to a large catalog of books. Are you familiar with the app? You just have to have a library membership to be able to use it.
I enjoy your podcasts/chatter time! I find I have many WIPs for different situations with always a pair of socks on the needles. As for reading, I can only read 1 book at a time. Have you found Pegg Thomas’s books? She writes clean historical Christian books that usually include knitting or spinning somewhere in the storyline. She’s in my spinning/knitting circle of friends. Also, I take my fleeces to Stonehedge Fiber Mill to be processed since I’m in northern Michigan! They are nice people to work with and are very helpful in deciding how to process the wool.
I love your podcast! Thank you for sharing all that you do. I find all your projects interesting. I’m new to the knitting world and would love it if you could give me some tips on how to get better at knitting. Thank you for your time!
Hello! Thank you so much! My best advice for improving in any area of life is to just keep practicing! Truly! The more you do something, the better you will get. Also, we are so blessed to have so many tutorials on youtube and the internet in general, so google anytime you are having a hard time with a new stitch or process.
I'm thoroughly enjoying all of your fall colors and colorwork projects! I'm so glad you had a wonderful vacation! The warmth sounds marvelous right now, but the fall colors are so beautiful and inspiring, too. The cozy season is coming 😊Can't wait to see your Petite Knitter sweater progress. Happy knitting, Amber!
Honestly, I'd trade you some warm & sunny days for your grey & rainy!! California's central valley seems to have forgotten fall & its still in the mid 80°'s!!! I found the PERFECT alternative to burning candles and small lamps....a candle lamp!!! Its amazing & the fragrance from my candle lasts SO much longer!! I've been using the same one for 2 weeks! I was laughing at the chart reading, I always knit flat, mostly shawls & scarves, I screw up in the round!! 🤣😂 I LOVE the roadrunner!! I'm making my BFF a cowl collection & that's perfect!! (She loves her "neck sweaters"!) I have no worsted & love Rios!! ..... And a gift card for Jimmy Bean's wools!!! 😁 I've heard a lot of things about square needles & was curious... Happy to hear another opinion.
Hi Patti! I'm sorry you're still having such hot weather! I honestly could live with the cooler temps, if only we could have a little more sun! It's the grey and gloomy skies that really get to me. What is a candle lamp!? I don't think I've ever heard of such a thing. I'm going to have to look that one up!
@@alovelyyarn Amazon has a wide variety of candle lamps.... Some are adorable accent pieces. I don't remember where I found them, but I've now even gifted a couple. Love it! Not to mention no smoke or soot. 😊
I just had the same experience with the chart... I'm trying colour work flat but reading the chart for the purl side left to right hurts my brain haha it is refusing to retrain 🤣 I just love your autumnal jumper. The colour is perfect 😍
😂 I'm having the same issues reading a chart for a shawl I'm knitting right now. I'm used to knitting circular sweaters too. So my brain keeps going to the right too.
I love the colour of your scarf and the Roadrunner shawl (added to my favourites on Ravelry!) I'm knitting the Salty Days Sweater at the moment (an enjoyable knit). I'm loving your podcast, keep up the good work!
I read more than one book at a time, too. Typically 1-2 fiction and several non-fiction, maybe one or more of those audio and the others hard copy. I’ve been doing it for years! And, the way you feel about autumn and winter in PA is the same I feel about summer here in NC with the heat and humidity over the top for months on end. So glad to hear that you enjoyed the Outer Banks - I love that part of the state, especially this time of year. !Thank you - another great episode.
Hi Pam! Yes, I have heard that from several people who I know who live in the south. We used to visit our friends in Charleston, SC over the 4th of July holiday and it would already be 90 and humid outside at 6:30am! That was so crazy! We did that for a few years and then changed our annual trip to february. It's much nicer there then, and we get a sunny break from our PA winter.
I’ve seen the movie Chocolate a few times but haven’t read te book yet, though I also have about three books going at the same time! Thought I was the only one who did that! Love both your color work sweaters! I have few square needles ..for a few years and when I grab the size needle I don’t even notice till I’ve knitted a bit..but I remember when I first bought them I loved them
Hi Kathie! Nope! You're not the only one who reads multiple books at a time. I look at books like yarn projects. I never know which one I'm going to be in the mood to read, so i keep several going at a time!
Lichen and Lace is in Sackville, New Brunswick Canada (above Maine) :) Her shop is not far from me in a Moncton. Such gorgeous yarn! ❤❤ love your sweater btw. Such a wonderful podcast 😊
Yes I have tried her yarn ❤. It’s gorgeous. A nice plump fingering weight. I’ve also bought yarn she gets from Briggs and Little here in NB (very rustic) and dyes them into such gorgeous colours. My LYS Carrie’s her yarn as well :)
I am not an experienced knitter, so I didn't know this about charts. I decided to do a dishcloth from a chart, ended up frogging it so many times. I think it's still on the needles in a bag somewhere. I'm going to try again when I find it😅 Suggestion: The Woolly Thistle specializes in British wools if you want to drool over beautiful yarns (there's a RUclips channel so you can see projects, too)
Hi Bonnie! Charts can be tricky, but I actually prefer them over written instructions (as long as I read them correctly! Lol.) Thank you for recommending the Woolly Thistle. I have watched her podcast before, but I have never purchased anything from her store.
@@alovelyyarn I had forgotten you had some issues with some wools, but I think there are some alpaca blends that might work. And there might be cotton blends too.
Hi Amber! I also read multiple books at a time and I usually have an audio book in my rotation too. I love the sweater you are wearing, perfect fall colors.
I’m just past the stage of life where I felt “too warm.” It has been fun to delve back into my handmade pull overs. Hang on to them, this too shall pass. Love your aesthetic with your yarn and project choices! I’m always inspired by you. With regard to the square needles, I have some wooden square needles and I find they help me when I’m having some hand fatigue. However, most of the time I use my Chiaogoo interchangeable set.
Hi Donna! I'm sure it's so nice to be able to wear your woolly pullovers again!! I have heard from other viewers that the square needles help with discomfort. That's interesting.
I know what you mean about knitting charts flat. I also have trouble with a chart that has the colorwork mapped out in a dark color but I’m using a light colored yarn, ie the Fletching Sock. Knitting my second pair due to your influence!
Thanks for the great episode. I have severe yarn envy! I am Knitting the Cashmere Cozy Neck Warmer by Jessica Harrigfeld. Haven’t made it before but it looks nice and cozy. Half fisherman’s rib. Don’t apologise for the chat. I am here for the chat! And the knitting of course ☺️
I always enjoy your videos. We seem to have the same taste in knitted projects. I do a lot of crocheting too. I don't have anything on the needles as I am making two blankets for grandkids for Christmas. I hope to have them done by the end of November so I can squeeze in a knitted vest for me for Christmas. I look forward to seeing your finished projects; always an inspiration.
I love your colorwork sweaters! And I totally get it about the boring stockinette part... such a drag after fun yoke knitting. I just finished the Agnes jumper by Camilla Vad (blocking now) and got a ton of knitting done on it in the car on our way to and from a Bar Harbor vacation. Happily, my husband also gets bored if he's not driving. Win-win.🙂I haven't knit any The Petite Knitter patterns yet, but have several saved in my favorites, including hytte and tuku. p.s. always love hearing what other people are reading or listening to...thanks for sharing!
All of your yarn purchases look so soft and lovely and pretty. I feel the same way about Lichen and Lace- I love it, but the shipping! Maybe some day I’ll run across it as you did.😊I have been slowly teaching myself to knit and I have a lot of trouble with the yarn slipping off the needles. I’ve tried metal and wood. Your description of the square metal needles makes me think maybe I should try them. What are your thoughts? Hope you’re having a wonderful day!🌻
Hi Patti! Another viewer just told me that if you order a certain amount of yarn from Lichen and Lace's Etsy shop, you get free shipping! I tried it. Added three skeins and went to check out and my order qualified for free shipping. I didn't actually end up purchasing it; just wanted to see if I could get free shipping. As far as stitches slipping. Wooden needles definitely help that, but I think the square needles would also help that. That is maybe one of the things I'm not crazy about with them. My stitches don't seem to slide as easy, and it kind of slows me down.
Hi Amber- I have some knit picks square needles and use them for plant based fibres. They eliminated my hand pain. I just bought an Addi rocket square and wasn’t sure about those little bumps. I tried them with some slippery fingering weight and they worked really well. And as for Canadian postage…..it is cheaper to ship yarn from Europe than from the next province over!! (NB is New Brunswick)
Love seeing the sweaters you work on! I am currently tending to a pile of socks to mend their holes (not fun knitting, but trying to get the to-do list shorter so they are useful again!). Also weaving in ends of my Riddari. I also have a On the C Train hat on the go for one of my daughters and working on a sweater for my son of my own design. Can't quite decide my next project for myself but next on the needles is likely a cardigan for my other daughter. Got to get those warm layers in for the Fall/Winter months that are almost here (I'm in Canada). Have a nice week :)
Wow! You are so productive! So many fun projects going on. I have a pile of socks that need darned too, but I've been putting that off for the last year! That's so horrible to admit out loud!
Haha I suppose that does sound productive but the Riddari was one I made in the summer and hadn't gotten around to weaving in ends, and the sock pile has been sitting there for a few months too! Only so many hours in a day right haha!? @@alovelyyarn
Hi Amber! Fun podcast! Luv your knitting plans! I too have tried the square needles with a so-so review. Besides addi is a pricey needle, so I opted out😂. Luv all your new yarns but I wanted to tell you, as I was watching, I went directly to Etsy Lichen & Lace shop and ordered 3, yes three skiens of 80/20 sock yarn! Beautiful! It was free shipping for me!😊😊 Maybe because I ordered more than one?! I've never tried this yarn but it looks yummy! Thanks for the enabling! And thanks again for a fun podcast❤
Oh my gosh! I just went to her etsy shop, added three skeins to my cart, and found i was eligible for free shipping! Thank you so much for letting me know this! It makes me so happy!!!!
I get you with charts. I changed my Alaska sweater from black trees to white trees and the pattern didn’t have that option so I had to just remember light is dark and dark is light to me on the chart.
Oh thank you Amber - I bought some very expensive hand dyed yarn and was so frustrated trying to wind it up from the skein. It was tangled and it took me hours to get it wound up. I was excited to cast on with this yarn but have put it aside for now as I can’t look at it without being grumbly
Hi Amber. I'm glad you had a great vacation! Have you ever tried those light box type things for the grey days? I have one and I do like it. I wanted to tell you that I'm knitting my first Ranunculus thanks to your lovely talk about it. It's working up pretty quickly. Now I understand the hype. Also, I just received my Fireside blanket kit from Attic24!
Hello again, Dana! Yes, I have owned and used a lightbox for probably over ten years now. It does help, but definitely doesn't replace the sun! The light along with getting outside (no matter what the weather) and working out have been helpful for me. I'm glad that you are enjoying making the Ranunculus! It seems that I'm always planning my next one!
I’m really enjoying your podcast, Amber. I love the chatter, It’s like being in a knit/crochet group. Right now I’m crocheting another City Lights Cardigan by Jessica Herr.
I love the Addi rocket squared! I have one fixed pair. I'd be interested in the interchangeable set but I haven't heard good things about the join. I would need to try them first to see. Need to check out my lys to see if I can test drive the interchangeables.
I just found your podcast through The Fruitful Hands podcast. Emerald Isle is my favorite place on earth. We go every year. Did you visit The Salty Ewe?
I'm sorry I shouted New Brunswick 😅. We are the same with sport weight yarn. My fingering spec of 60 sts in 2.25mm needles translates to Sports 48 sts on 2.75 mm needles.
I haven't tried the Squared needles yet, but Ive heard that they work great with natural fibers. I plan to give them a try next summer during linen and cotton season.
Hahaha. I was super thankful for that reason as well, but also because I had way less vacation laundry to take care of on Monday! Thanks for hanging out with me!
I love the sweater you have on. So pretty. I'm new to colorwork and would like to know if the bubbles at the top of the arm, where to colorwork ends, are typical. Should I change needle size at that point? Suzanne
Hi Suzanne! Thank you so much! I think that that puckering is because I should have went up a needle size on the colorwork. I do nowadays, but this was my first colorwork sweater, so I didn't know to do that!
Love to hear what other people are reading. I listen to audiobooks while knitting, crocheting or other crafty endeavors.
I love hearing what other people are reading too! It's like knitting patterns! I just keep adding more book titles to my "To Be Read" list!
One of the best reasons why I watch you is your personality. You are a truly sweet person and I think I have watched you from your first podcast. Love your handwork. Take care
Thank you so much 🤗
I will have to check Lichen and Lace yarn when I go to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia next summer. I see it is also available at the Knitting Loft in Toronto which is about an hour away from me.
Give it a try, Lisa! I really enjoy working with it, and her colors are all so beautiful!
I love it
That means so much to me! I'm so happy that you enjoy them.
We live about an hour from Emerald Isle and we love visiting. I have yet to visit the Salty Sheep which is near there but I plan to soon
I love hearing about your life and what you are reading as well as your knitting. Don't change a thing.
Thank you so much, Colleen!
Hello! That's good to know about the square needles helping a bit with the hand pain. I'll keep that in mind. Thank you for watching!
Ya know that one choice you can get in some surveys that's' neither agree or disagree'? That's how I am about square needles. I am using them during this podcast on my Reagan sweater. I think they may feel a tad more comfy in my hands tho. I also love lichen and lace yarns and have used some in the past.
I love the square needles!!
Hi Penny! Yes, it's the loveliest little yarn shop. And everyone who was there was so kind!
Always enjoy your episodes, lady💗Thank you for sharing your beautiful projects and acquisitions😊🥂
Thank you so much, Brooke!
I like the Knit Picks Square.
Nice sweater you're wearing
Thank you so much!
Your Arboreal sweater is beautiful!
Hi Amber, I enjoy all the chitchat. As a matter of fact, those are the types of knitting podcasts I enjoy the most.
Hi Diana! That's great to know! I never mind the chit chat either in other podcasts, and usually enjoy hearing what everyone has been up to! It's nice to get a little glimpse into their lives! Thank you so much for watching!
GM Amber
I love ❤️ your beautiful sweater you are wearing and colour is amazing on you !!
Thank you always enjoy your pods 😊💝😊
Thank you so much!
I’m glad you talked about the books you read while you were away and also about Goodreads, which I will check out as I’m always looking for my next read😊
I always love to hear what others are reading as well!
Congratulations on reaching 4k loved the socks the stitch definition is perfect 😂
I have one pair of square needles and my feelings were exactly as yours. They work but nothing I'd go buy again. Love your sweater you're wearing.
Thank you, Robin!
Hi Amber! I have used square knitpicks needles and kollage needles (square) as well, they're alright but wouldn't switch. FYI,
Lichen and Lace have there own website.
Thank you, Nancy!
The roadrunner is exciting!
I think that the recipient who I'm knitting it for will really like it!
I’m actually casting on the sweater you are wearing as I watch this! The neckline is garter stitch, lol!
Hi!! I love getting book updates !! Talking books and knitting go hand in hand. thank you for providing a nice time to knit and enjoy your content! ❤
I love book recommendations from others as well! Thank you so much for watching, Jennifer!
Oh my gosh! I had no idea that this subscription even existed! I must look into this! Thank you!
I love the Jupiter colorway and the scalloped edge is lovely!
I love your episodes and the way you share info with us :) That sweater you are wearing looks great on you.
Thank you so much 🙂
I recently finished friend to friend shrug, and the Ziggy Triangle. I still have Stephen West 2023 MKAL clue 2 to finish and I'm test knitting a sweater for Tif Neilan. Thanks for sharing your projects with us.
Thank you so much for watching!
I live south of Pittsburgh and understand what you say about gray winters in Pa. We have had some beautiful fall colors this year though. Your sweater is lovely and I enjoy your videocast.
Hey Sue! Lots of gold and yellow this year! Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you for chatting about and sharing my Roadrunner Cowl pattern. Your's is looking lovely!
LOVE my square needles! I have a whole interchangeable set. They're good to keep your tension loose if you're someone that knits tight.
I definitely have a looser gauge with the squares!
Gorgeous colour of the cardigan!!! ❤
Thank you! I love it too!
Thank you for a lovely podcast and your knits. I am loving the sweater you are wearing. The Sophie Scarf is delightful and looked good on you. Your cast on's are exciting and suit you. I am just back from a holiday and trying to get back into a rhythm. Take care ❤😊
Thank you so much!
I would like to try square needles. I really like the sweater you're wearing, the leaves on it are really pretty. That peony colorway yarn is so so-ooo gorgeous! 😊
Isn't that yarn so beautiful! I'm so glad I went back and got it! Lol. Thanks for watching!
HI amber!!!
So glad u had a great holiday with UR Family,,,,,
Nice you got to the wool shop,,,Sounds lovely,,,,
Love UR sweater u are wearing and one you are knitting,,,!!!
Kroy is thicker to me too,,,,I also use 2.75mm,,,,or 3mm,,!!
Lichen and lace is lovely,,,my local yarn shop carry her yarn,,
She has a website,,, and shipping is expensive even in canada, to Canada,,,!!!
So glad u got her yarn ,,,,,It's a treat and I usually get 2 pairs of socks or small shawl made from one skein,,,,
Love the book,garden chat,,,,Too!!!
Take care,,,
ElaineXoxo 🍁🍁🍄🏡
Thanks for the info, Elaine! I LOOOOOVE Lichen & Lace. One of my viewers told me that if you order over a certain amount of yarn from her Etsy shop, you'll get free shipping. I tried it (without buying) and put three skeins in my cart and it qualified for free shipping.
Loved your podcast, and as a Canadian we have crazy expensive postage even across Canada !
Thank you, Judy! Our postage here in the US has also really gone up.
Oh my goodness! Still 100 degrees! That's so intense!
Thanks for the tips on the Gloam! I have one kitted up and waiting in the rotation. I love my square needles. I find the stitch definition is noticeably better.
Oh that's so interesting about the stitch definition. Have you noticed that your gauge is bigger when you use the square needles?
I was wearing the same jumper today - only mine is in blue. I received a lot of compliments. A great design - yours looks great in fall colours.
Thank you, Elizabeth!
North central Pennsylvania is the same. Cold, rain, and dark.
I think that the east coast of the state has a bit more sun than us, lucky them!
Yes! I love Paton's Kroy!
I enjoyed this episode very much. I have used Scout yarn and love it. I like hearing about your reading list and gardening.
Thank you so much, Lisa!
Hi Amber! Love tuning in to your podcast! If you are looking for a book recommendation I would suggest Peace Like a River by Leif Enger. Wonderful writing and the characters are so real and absolutely lovable!
I am always up for book recommendations! Thank you!
it’s interesting to me. The different words we use in different areas of the country. You say “shore” and i immediately think lake shore. Not the ocean. We always said “coast” for the ocean and “shore” for lakes.
I love how varied language is
Haha, that's so true! I always find that interesting as well. Thank you for watching, Jean!
Your Arboreal Sweater is lovely 😍
Thank you so much!
I hope that helps!
that is so cool that you came to Emerald Isle, I live in Beaufort and we go there all the time and eat at Rucker Johns ❤
also the beaches there are usually less crowded than atlantic beach which is closer to me. glad y’all had a good time here!
Hello! I have never heard of Pegg Thomas. I will keep my eyes out for her books. Thank you!
Hi Josie! Thank you so much!
🤣😂
I LOVE the roadrunner!! I'm making my BFF a cowl collection & that's perfect!! (She loves her "neck sweaters"!)
I have no worsted & love Rios!! ..... And a gift card for Jimmy Bean's wools!!! 😁
I've heard a lot of things about square needles & was curious...
I'm trying colour work flat but reading the chart for the purl side left to right hurts my brain haha it is refusing to retrain 🤣
I just love your autumnal jumper. The colour is perfect 😍
Hahaha! It's a real struggle!
Excited about new sock yarn. Can't wait to see it knit up. Love your podcast. Keep them coming
Thank you bunches, Debby!
😂 I'm having the same issues reading a chart for a shawl I'm knitting right now. I'm used to knitting circular sweaters too. So my brain keeps going to the right too.
It's a struggle! Lol.
Love your podcasts Amber! Makes my day❤️
Thank you so much, Gillian!
I have one pair of rocket square needles in size 1 for socks. I think I fed the same as you - they’re nice but my ChiaoGoo needles are nice, too!
I love my ChiaoGoo needles!
I love the colour of your scarf and the Roadrunner shawl (added to my favourites on Ravelry!) I'm knitting the Salty Days Sweater at the moment (an enjoyable knit). I'm loving your podcast, keep up the good work!
Thank you! I actually want to knit the Salty Days sweater too. It looks very similar to the Ingrid sweater, but I've heard that it's easier.
Oh, lucky you! Have you tried her yarn? And thank you so much!
Oh, yes, always an audiobook thrown in there to listen to while I knit in the evening!
Haha! Nancy! I have that same problem as well with the light and dark squares of a chart. Lol.
Awww. Thank you so much, Eliana! The neck warmer you are making sounds delightful. I'm going to look that one up!
Blankets are definitely big, time-consuming projects!
Thank you so much for watching, Barbara!
Hello! Oh, you just visited my happy place! I love Bar Harbor and Acadia
We really missed it this year!
Hello Beverly. Multiple viewers have told me that the square needles have helped with hand pain, so that's definitely a good thing!
Loved the beginning and getting to hear what you’ve been up to. Your wearing an absolutely beautiful sweater- so well done ☺️. Happy knitting 💚🧶💚
Thank you so very much!
Oh, that's awesome!! And I feel her price is really good! It seems to be on the lower end, just saying cuz I buy a lotta sock yarn😂
@rosemary6160 I completely agree! Her price is definiely on the lower end compared to most Indie dyers.
I get you with charts. I changed my Alaska sweater from black trees to white trees and the pattern didn’t have that option so I had to just remember light is dark and dark is light to me on the chart.
Haha! Ok, I totally understand that too, because I have changed colors before too and had to really think about it! Lol.
Oh thank you Amber - I bought some very expensive hand dyed yarn and was so frustrated trying to wind it up from the skein. It was tangled and it took me hours to get it wound up. I was excited to cast on with this yarn but have put it aside for now as I can’t look at it without being grumbly
Awww, that's a shame. It hardly ever happens, but when it does, it's so frustrating!
I would love to follow you on Good Reads!
Hi Annie! I will add my Goodreads URL in the description box of this video. I think that you'll be able to follow me that way.
@@alovelyyarn i know! it's so hard without the sunshine. Listening to music helps in addition to what you've written, which I also do.
I’m really enjoying your podcast, Amber. I love the chatter, It’s like being in a knit/crochet group. Right now I’m crocheting another City Lights Cardigan by Jessica Herr.
Thank you so much, Catherine!
I love the Addi rocket squared! I have one fixed pair. I'd be interested in the interchangeable set but I haven't heard good things about the join. I would need to try them first to see. Need to check out my lys to see if I can test drive the interchangeables.
Hi Stacy! Have you noticed that your gauge is larger when you use the square needles?
I actually got some knitters pride square needle tips to try… so no verdict yet :)
It is beautiful!
I just found your podcast through The Fruitful Hands podcast. Emerald Isle is my favorite place on earth. We go every year. Did you visit The Salty Ewe?
I just saw you did go. What a beautiful shop!
Yes! It's an absolute joy to visit it when we vacation there.
I'm sorry I shouted New Brunswick 😅. We are the same with sport weight yarn. My fingering spec of 60 sts in 2.25mm needles translates to Sports 48 sts on 2.75 mm needles.
Hahaha! I drew a complete blank!
I am finding the metal needles are harder on my hands when I knit a long time especially shorter interchangeables
Knitting with shorter needles are definitely a little more challenging. Do you use square metal needles?
I knit on knitpro cubics and knitpro zings love both but the cubics are easier on my hands and my stitches seem neater
I've heard that from multiple people.
I haven't tried the Squared needles yet, but Ive heard that they work great with natural fibers. I plan to give them a try next summer during linen and cotton season.
Oh, I'll have to remember that the next time I work with cotton or linen! Thanks!
Big thanks to your husband for helping with laundry so yo can have some time to film and share with us.
Hi Amber, 🙋🏼♀️🇦🇺
Hello, Gail!
New Brunswick? I don’t know, I’m from the South West UK 😂. Love all your projects as usual - thank you!
Yep! That's exactly what it stands for! I was completely blanking while I was filming. Lol.
Thank you so much!
Hi Amber, I used knitt picks square needles and liked them but now I’m spoiled by chiagoo cables so don’t use them any more.
I've had others say that they really like the Knit Picks square needles. I agree with you about the chaiogoo cables! They are fantastic!
