I like the fact they changed it into their own style rather than just doing something close to the original. Also the sinister sound they have is a good contrast to the uplifting lyrics.
That's not really fair to Pharel (sp?). I don't like most of his songs, but he's a talented guy for sure, and writes most of his stuff by himself or with his partner from The Neptunes.

He uses a dry, un-distorted amp for his "normal" bass sounds and a dirty amp and he runs an EHX POG through that one
