李光前自然历史博物馆的前身是建于1889年的「莱佛士博物馆」（Raffles Museum），即后来的新加坡国家博物馆。莱佛士博物馆的生物多样性研究主要围绕两部分进行：植物类和动物类收藏。
1972年，政府将新加坡国家博物馆所藏的自然历史类藏品移交给新加坡国立大学的动物学系，之后，这批藏品被安置在多个临时处所。直到2015年4月李光前博物馆的落成才有一个真正的安居之所！
记得小时候随学校去参观新加坡博物馆最期待也是最兴奋的就是去参观这些远古和动物的标本！🤩
