I shop the dollar store for all of my snakes’ decor. The best part is, the fake foliage and flowers change seasonally, so my snakes habitats are decorated according to the seasons too. For example, my corn’s tank was fall festival themed with autumn leaves and pumpkin (candle holder) hides, tiny crates, hay bales, and even a scarecrow. I think being able to inexpensively change up their homes and therefore give them more stimulation is something everyone should try if they can.
Im gonna start doing that...its obviously good for the snake for stimulation but also keeps your eyes stimulated as well....I need a couple more totes tho so I can store fall stuff, winter stuff, summer stuff and spring stuff....lol..thanks for costing me more money...lmao...jk

Yeah binge watching reptile videos has caused some weird dreams...I had a dream that I was holding a corn snake on my bed and then fell off the bed and was wrapped in blankets and snake and the snake bit my butt! Lol 😂
Personally don't keep anything other than geckos. However one of the adult children got a ball python and asked me to do the build around 6 months ago. All my geckos are in bioactive enclosures so I wanted to do the same for the snake (thanks for the videos on that they really helped). The hardest part was the plants. As you stated in the video a snake of size will devastate plants. Took some research to find plants that would be reptile safe and hold up to a large snake. Turned out well (after a few adjustments) and the snake is much happier.
I wish I could but snakes are out for me cuz of my mom 🥲I find them great creatures and did a lot of research and when I’m older and have kids I would definitely give my kids a snake if they want one.
At 3:57 when you said "I'm never gonna find that now" I related to that way too much 😭 I'm always putting things in random places and then I can't find them later 😂
overhead heating is actually better for ball pythons because they are heavy bodied snakes, so having a heat mat underneath them is more likely to burn them. also provide uvb for your reptiles if you can :)
You can't burn a Ball Python with a 90°F heat mat. If a thermostat fails, a snake can move off the heat mat. Heat lamps, on the other hand, tend to turn an enclosure into an Easy Bake Oven if the thermostat fails.
@@TheCharleseye lots of bp owners don’t provide the proper foliage & clutter for the bp to feel comfortable moving, which is a problem in itself. it’s best to be thorough.
I'm not sure you saw my comment on the last video with out of date care guides but I'm really glad you've done a ball python care guide that isn't a tiny box or a 20 gallon long tank.
That’s great you did this video because I just built a new enclosure for my ball python and I’ll have it up this week. And love how you set up your enclosure it came out great 👌👏🏻
I loved this video! As someone who is brand new to the reptile world, this was great. Relatable materials, break down of basics, and enjoyable to watch!
I had a random idea last winter and tried it out on my pythons and they loved it. I got small-ish storage bins from the dollar store, cut a hole in the corner of the lid, filled it half way with water, and put a heat mat underneath. They would go in and out, soaking as they pleased. The water was averaged about 82°f. They had little hot tubs to enjoy.
little tipto add for enclosures: Plastic sterlight bins work AMAZING, for smaller individuals walmart sells appropriate sizes, and for bigger bins, home improvement stores will usually have those. of course PVC is always better, but if you need something in a pinch or just something to grow in, def recommend.
I just bought a baby ball python for my daughter and he's in a plastic bin set up for now. Once he gets bigger, I'll set him up a nice big enclosure. I'm taking this time to shop around and figure out what I want plus look at what other people have done to get some inspiration. I can't wait to do something really natural looking and see if he will climb around. I'm lucky to live right down the street from DFW Reptarium. They have so much cool stuff.
I’ve done that for my young banana BP. She’s doing real well after he first week in there. Make sure that you DO NOT get a plastic tub with some fancy divots/ridge designs on the bottom. It’s messed up my heat mats adhesive and tape. I had to use 10lb weight plates to elevate it- making the heat mat press against the bottom. The adhesive wore off at one point and the temp dropped to 79 degrees when it’s supposed to be 80-90 degrees. So, use tape, get a good bin and definitely use a thermostat‼️‼️
Keep in mind that radiant heat panels aren’t a good primary heat source, although they can be used for nighttime/supplementary heat (like CHEs and DHPs). A halogen flood bulb is the most natural and beneficial primary daytime heat source.
I made a planted bioactive bp enclosure with a cork and spray foam background. It's made out of stained plywood with maple wood accents and an old sheet of acrylic as glass. It costed less than $200 and looks like it belongs in a zoo! Heating it is a challenge but we fiinally figured it out after a few weeks. The most expensive part was the light for the plants 😅
My girl LOVES to climb! I zip tied branches up into the top corners of her enclosure, which is about three feet high, and she climbs up onto them all the time! She’s a little weird. 😂
Omg I found out I’m getting to move into my own house in the next couple of weeks so I’m finally about to get a ball python. I’ve been watching all your other bp videos so it’s awesome you uploaded this when you did lol

Yes! This!!!!! Studies are now showing that the sooner just about any snake is exposed to stimuli, the more their brain develops and the less defensive they are bc they learn to deal with minor stresses better. Dressing out a tank and changing it up occasionally is a GREAT thing. Flea markets and garage sales are also good decor sources. I had a rosy boa that loved a ceramic open work lamp base for climbing in and lounging on. Think outside the box. Anything can be made to look more natural with a coat of silicone that has dry sphagnum moss pressed into it, or coated in pond spray foam, painted and them moss and dry coconut coir applied with silicone. Hemp rope and bits of black iron pipe and fittings can be turned into an outrageously cool "industrial chic" jungle gym. The same can be done with pvc pipe and fittings wrapped in jute twine.
So helpful, I will be setting up my Kages enclosure for my ball python and would normally go to a pet store and spend too much, will be going to the dollar store instead.

I don't have a snake, but it's very similar to how I did my fire skink's enclosure. I made her hide out of a plastic bin that I burned an opening into the side. I use only fake plants in my enclosures. I can't keep house plants alive to save my life. And since she likes to redecorate with her burrowing, it'd be even harder. Makes it so much easier when I'm cleaning. Just take them out, throw them in a bin with cleaning solution, let soak, rinse and put back in. I don't see the point in buying expensive plants and hides when I can get them for cheap and then customize to my liking. You can't even see the grey plastic bin that is her hide bc I buried in the substrate and put plants all around it. I'd rather my budget go to things you can't skimp on.
Awsome, Awsome, Awsome! Simple to the point and no jibba jabber. Which artificial plants do you prefer, plastic or cloth? Thanks for the dedication and edutainment my friend. Take care 👍🏾🇺🇸🇨🇦
I've been putting off getting a snake for a long time because I'm so nervous. I want everything to be perfect for them and I want them to be happy and healthy. It would be my first snake so I'm trying to be as cautious and careful as possible trying to make them a setup.
I think this will give you more traffic to your channel. It's a perfect length and great information. Now if you could get a sponsorship from a few enclosure companies, that could help them...
I'm currently building an enclosure and I was worried about enough lighting. Now I know they don't need much. Something simple is all I need. Cool. The bedding idea also helped. I used to spend mad money on snake bedding from the pet store. Would be nice to get some weight for half the price
For heating, a halogen flood bulb connected to a dimmer or dimming thermostat is the most natural and beneficial option during the day. Linear UVB is also very beneficial. The care guide on the website reptifiles has more information.
Wish I had seen this for hide ideas before I upgraded Loki’s hides. Pet store hides are so expensive and I never thought of using these kind of containers!! Would have saved me about $50!!
I always make my hides out of scrap wood I have laying around after I build their enclosures. It takes care of places for them to hide and something to rub on.
The thing about using only fake plants is that the live plants play an important role in the nitrogen cycle and stop nitrates from building up to become toxic. You need to have plants rooted in the soil for long term success otherwise you will still need to do occasional substrate changes. The more heavily planted the better in that regard. There's ways to use cage furnishings to protect the plants from getting crushed or uprooted too. Planting between some branches or rocks for example so the snakes not likely to crawl directly over the plant since there's raised surfaces right above it.
dude my female LOOOOVES climbing. because of that shes killed every plant in her enclosure but the pothos , but ill definitely be getting sturdier climbing opportunities for her
You mentioned radiant heat and also mentioned the heating mat. Do you need both of them. This subject troubles me the most worrying about doing a setup for the first time. I don’t have a snake yet but I am really close. I just need to keep researching, i want to do it right and do the enclosure and the snake.
I’ve found that my ball python Kaya loves burrowing through her cocohusk so I like to give her a little extra. Sometimes I’ll open her enclosure to change her water out and she just pops up with coco fibre on her head wanting to come out and explore more
I have a boa sigma and not a ball python but I have a “half pipe” piece of cork. Easy to lift if you want to check on your snake and a good place for the snake to rub to help with shedding, plus a good hide.

Thank you for your great videos!
Just got mine 4 days ago 😅
My Royal, named Gorbash, was an avid climber and swimmer. I had to cater to this with both height plus climbing options AND a wide and deep pool.
Awesome ideas. I just got my first baby ball and I appreciate the advice as always.
Glad it was helpful!
I'd love to see this series continue with other animals!!!! :)
OMG THE NOODLE IS CUTE AND ❤️❤️💜❤️💜❤️❤️
adorable eh!
Great tutorial video brother!!!!!🤙🏼💪🏼
Great content - please do a Mexican Black Kingsnake set up!🙏🏻
Wish I had seen this for hide ideas before I upgraded Loki’s hides. Pet store hides are so expensive and I never thought of using these kind of containers!! Would have saved me about $50!!
Nice been getting into breeding ball pythons so sure this will be helpful
I hope so!
Thanks helped a LOT
I always make my hides out of scrap wood I have laying around after I build their enclosures. It takes care of places for them to hide and something to rub on.
that's wicked
I think it looks really pretty 🙂
thank you!
I recently upgraded to 4x2x1 cages for my ball pythons I wish I had bought taller ones but I got them for a great deal used
great size!
I love Pikachu ❤️ and I think this is great advice!
Very nice video, I like the display.
Thank you very much!
Great hacks while making a perfect habitat for the snake.
thanks for watching!
Pikachu is soo cute!!
dude my female LOOOOVES climbing. because of that shes killed every plant in her enclosure but the pothos , but ill definitely be getting sturdier climbing opportunities for her
awesome!
The dollar store is CRUCIAL to the hobby👍
I’m looking forward to setting up my ball pythons enclosure as bioactive this summer when the weather is more convenient for shipping to Alaska.
You mentioned radiant heat and also mentioned the heating mat. Do you need both of them. This subject troubles me the most worrying about doing a setup for the first time. I don’t have a snake yet but I am really close. I just need to keep researching, i want to do it right and do the enclosure and the snake.
I'm trying to figure this out too as I'm looking to stack multiple cages.
Good shit brother man! Very helpful 👌 and it looks great, functional and easy to clean. 👍👍👍👍
Thanks man!
Pikachu is so cute and chunky I love him😢
I’ve found that my ball python Kaya loves burrowing through her cocohusk so I like to give her a little extra. Sometimes I’ll open her enclosure to change her water out and she just pops up with coco fibre on her head wanting to come out and explore more
Great video brother !
Thanks for the visit
Are you doing updated "How to to setup"???? Awesome!!!
heck yes! dropped another one right after this one!
I have a boa sigma and not a ball python but I have a “half pipe” piece of cork. Easy to lift if you want to check on your snake and a good place for the snake to rub to help with shedding, plus a good hide.
I have heard the log shaped cork barks don’t count as a hide bc they’re not enclosed. But it might depend on the species
@@juliac3933 I have two more hides on each side of the terrarium 😊
I LOVE your videos on how to set up enclosures on a budget... cheap doesn't always mean less than.... thank you for sharing your tips and tricks. (I'll pop this in when ever I can, PLEASE do a video about African House Snakes) from K. in Orillia, On. Canada
Yea go pikachu!! Love the content thanks for the info!
Love this channel so much
