Saw him in Edmonton n Sept 2011. For my money, he's the best writer I've heard. Did a serious 3 year deep dive where I just couldn't seem to listen to anything else... Fireline Road, Out here in the MIddle, Ruby and Carlos, so many amazing songs ... the imagery is astounding ... "some insurance man biker ... " unreal ...
That happened to me too! What is it about this guy? The killer lyrics? The guitar phrases? He is up there with Tom Waits, Robert Keen, Dave Alvin... I drove a few hundred miles when he played at an old cattle ranch here in Colorado. Missed the tiny sign 5 minutes to show time. Hung a U and pulled in at 2, My ipod on shuffle started a james song. 1500 tunes on it. Then I heard him start playing . Does not get any better than that
I can't wait to see him at the Berkeley Cafe' in Raleigh on October 15th, 2012. His songs are great and his playing is fantastic and his singing is unique. I just want that last drink again too...
This song was the first of his I ever heard. On the record, it's right before "Ruby and Carlos". This song and that one made me into a serious fan, dude. Thanx for putting this one up.
I really enjoy the evocative lyrics of "Hurri. Aw screw the rhetorc. I just plain love The Heartless Bastards Bob ie in Vt. Tim Holt what would we do without you?
