"Orange cloves" is the most adorable error in English I think I've ever encountered. ❤ (Mandy, it's typically orange "segments," but I think I'm going to adopt "cloves" from here on out. You're the best, and I love this peeling trick so much.)
@@phantomkate6 Right. Thus my comment. Why do we call them slices when they're not sliced? And why do we call them segments at all? That's such an unappealing word. Orange clove is way better.
I do this with my grapefruit. then I split the fruit in half and take the casing off of EVERY SLICE one by one. I know I may sound crazy but it is SO worth it, and pretty easy. you dont waste any of the meat or juice like you sometimes do just using a gra[eruit knife and spoon. I put it all in a container add 1/4 tablespoon of sugar and let is rest overnight. It's SO good, you can leave the slices whole or chop them up. Obviously the latter gives you more juice. You lose almost NO JUICE THIS WAY. And it should be obvious but you can choose whichever citrus fruit you want. (I don't think it would work on limes or lemons.) I'm sure someone else may do it another way. But i think mine is fun, and it's something the kids can help you with too. Or you know just sit them at a table give em an orange, grapefruit whatever and they will be busy for a while and it gives you a little time to rest. I find it kind of calming and fun, but that's just me 😁🙃
Mandy produces amazing content on Chinese cooking. Her instructionals are well video graphed with lots of detail on product knowledge and techniques. I been a subscriber for years and can say most of what i know about being good at Chinese cooking I learned from her.
Thank you thank you thank you. I had to thank you a second time you reminded me of things that my grandparents used to do and the older people my family used to. I haven’t seen this done for years. Bless you child bless you.
I really have been enjoying your cooking shows if you could please use closed captions as I am to help me and others understand exactly what the ingredients are as I am not Asian I'm not sure what the things items that you're using and do not have access to a store that I could find them in or possibly how does substitute something boy your stuff sure looks yummy! Thank you
@@ThatOneGuyFromSchoolI don't love 2 say I have it, but I do! I'm 38, & had it since I was 5! It actually runs in my family, and none of us brag about it! It's a serious, debilitating, mental disorder, that involves so much more than perfectionism! ❤& ✌🏽 ☮
I’ve peeled oranges this way all my life & so did my parents & grandparents. Only we would use a spoon or the specialty citrus cutter/peeler that was sold by Tupperware. When I don’t have those, I just use my finger under the peel. Now my kids do this as well.
GREAT! How did I get to this advanced age without knowing this? Love even more the keeping the peel as a 'container'. All without all the mess. PLUS, don't avoid the white pith. It's a great antioxidant and boosts the immune system even more than all that good Vitamin C.
I have an orange peeler and have been doing this for ages. I love this method because it's mess free. I would arrive people to really use an orange peeler though. They're very cheap and you can only cut a little into the orange so you'll never accidentally cute the flesh of the orange
I'm 38, & had ocd,&adhd, since I was 5! It actually runs in my family, and none of us care about matching a cut orange, evenly! I'm tired of people without this mental disorder, just tossing it around so much, out of context! It's a serious, debilitating, mental disorder, that involves so much more than perfectionism! ❤& ✌🏽 ☮
Omg finally an easy way to peel oranges! The only reason I hate buying them is peeling them and debris getting under my nails all orange. 😅 I'm going to tell everyone!!!
same method as orange score the skin use a spoon to separate flesh from skin you can't twist but you can push spoon deep to separate all skin away enjoy !
I grew up in the Midwest with a tool for this exact process. It’s an Orange Peeler or Grapefruit peeler. One side is a little cutting hook and the other is a flat wedge.
For people with OCD lines will not matter nor will the instructions as their obsessives thoughts will create compulsions, sometimes so strong they can't even pick up an orange. OCD is not about being neat.
That's a great idea! I have an orange tree and the oranges are very juicy and get all over my hands when I peel them. Can't wait to try this out! ❤
Send me some. They are my favorite 🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊🍊
How did it go?
Did you try it ?
@@maritab8797 not yet. It's not the season for oranges yet
Would you mind telling us how it went? 🍊
I think you are a delight and simply adorable. And you have a sense of humor. Thank you for your wonderful ideas and recipes.
Nicely expressed. I feel the same.
Wow!! Thank you Mandy for your great tips and recipes 💓

She's kinda right though. Cloves is a better word for them than segments or slices. I'm mad I didn't think of it first. Why do we call them slices?
@@tatherva7387They're not slices, though, they're segments. If you slice the orange, then you have slices! 😂
@@phantomkate6 Right. Thus my comment. Why do we call them slices when they're not sliced? And why do we call them segments at all? That's such an unappealing word. Orange clove is way better.
I wouldn't even call it an error, as "cloves" is a better description than "slices" or "segments"
Segments without the peel. Definitely slices with the peel as you used a knife to slice them.

What a nifty way to peel an orange. Gotta try this! Thanks Mandy!!!
Nice! I will try it out next time. Such a neat way too do it. Even get the original container for the fruit.
I'll let my butler know 👌🤙. After he's peeled the grapes.
Hear ye, hear ye
Very good sir, very good.
Don't forget to have them remove all the seeds off your strawberries while they're at it

Well now I feel like a genius because I do this with just a knife. Now I wonder if how I peel eggs is awesome too.
If i want to eat only half an orange, do i cut the skin vertically?
Nice! Great method!
Thanks thats a great idea. Happy holidays 🎉
Great tip 👍🏼

I'm glad you got rid of your bangs. You look more grown up without it. 😊
Some oranges have better separation. Will that work on a Cara Cara?

Please demonstrate how to peel mango with out making a mess.
same method as orange
score the skin
use a spoon to separate flesh from skin
you can't twist but you can push spoon deep to separate all skin away
enjoy !
Not possible 😂
I score the skin in an long X shape at the pointy end, then peel it like a banana.
Fabulous idea :)
This is genius!!!
That is brilliant! I keep forgetting to split the peel before peeling and it just makes a citrusy mess
