I love the way that the song starts talking in first person. Acknowledging that it was them who put on the mask and tried to hide/change who they are to fit a mold, or to reach some goal. But then as the song progresses it flips to speaking as if it’s a different person, Almost as if they’ve lost control of the charade and it’s built into something it was never supposed to be. And you forget the reason you put on the mask in the first place but now you don’t know how to take it off. And you mourn the person you used to be. The person who didn’t care what mold people wanted you to fit.
