I remember her saying she injured her leg off season last year. I don't know if it's true that she's better now, considering her results so far. She probably won't say anything negative about it or make excuses, but I really miss her performance two years ago. There's just too much competition for Japanese female skaters for the World's and Olympics... just such a shame she missed out in 2022. She really should have been picked.
The intense practice to put a burden on her feet was stopped by her doctors. As a result of the MRI test in August, jumping practice including three turns was allowed. The fatigue fracture of the foot has not been completely healed, and still a little pain, but it is much better than before. With a lack of practice for one year, her leg strength was reduced and his jumping sensation was lost. Therefore, this season is her rehabilitation. She says "kotsukotsu" (sllowly). Of course, in her mind, she aims much more.
Mai will always be MY favorite skater! I wish I could see her elegance on ice in person. From Jeff in South Dakota United States, with well wishes and ❤ to you!
Mai is a good skater but that program does not cut it. Ignoring the technical mistakes, the whole program was lost. I think of Michelle Kwan’s 2003 worlds performance with this music, and I admit I do not see this program going anywhere (lack of connection and building with the music). Hopefully, those around her take things in a different direction - whether this is the music or not.
When I we watched it, I just felt that Michelle just interpreted the music and such a personal way as in all as in many of her performances, I was feeling the music through her movements. She understood the attitude that the music needed to . The last spin a takeoff on the lay back was so innovative and brilliant. It always gives me goosebumps.
My first reaction is cringe, and while I realize music can’t be off limits and perhaps it’s flattering to skate to music from a skater or performance that inspired you all I can picture this whole performance is Michelle Kwan. When you use that as your muse… it’s hard to not come out appearing shorthanded. Make your own moment.
If I am understanding your comment correctly, you take issues with the fact that Ms. Mihara has chosen to skate to the Red Violin, to which Ms. Kwan stated a quarter century ago. My impression is that the Red Violin is like the Fire Bird or Carmen-and SO MANY people have skated to it over the decades. I can think of at least one skater each season that has skated to this internationally or domestically in either SP or FS. Did you have the same reaction when those numerous skaters chose this music? Besides, Ms. Kwan may have inspired us with her Red Violin program, but Mai was only born in 1999 or 2000-so your observation makes little sense to me. Unless Ms. Mihara said she was emulating Ms. Kwan through this program (in which case I would agree that she needed to rethink that decision), I am not sure if I understand why she needed to have refrained from using this piece.
Its concerto de aranjuez and Michelle won worlds to this in 2003 probably when Mai was starting to skate (reportedly in elementary school and cites Mao as a role model). Just my personal opinion, I think she’s a lovely skater. If this wasn’t her idea it’s lazy on the choreographers and coaches who would be ignorant to not know the relevance of choosing this piece.

I love Mai Mihara, no matter the mistakes. She's so pretty and sweet.

I love her brave heart,beautiful smile✨

I can’t help but think of Michelle Kwan for some reason. 🤷🏻♂️
Yes! Michelle used this music and I will never forget the performance. In fact I’m going to watch it right now.
@@flowerguy44332003 Worlds. It’s one of my favs. ❤️ miss her so much. 😢
@@flowerguy4433 I did the same. It was one of the most iconic performances in figure skating history.

Mai is now at the starting point of this season
Due to the injury, I can no longer jump.
Sad performance

Go off yourself

So basically Mai shouldn't skate to it just because Kwan did it before?
Cringe is a reflection of you, not Mai. She is happy to be on the ice. Her career is almost over. She’s 25
