  • Algonquin woman, activist and Indigenous Studies student Belle Bailey reflects on her time at Carleton University, what inspired her to pursue Jingle dress dancing, and her motivations to uncover her roots, connect with her community, and share her lived experiences with others.
Thank you to The Ottawa River Singers FN Drum Group for allowing us to use their song Speak from the Heart in this video.
Every year, Orange Shirt Day is an opportunity to reflect on the more than 150,000 First Nations, Inuit and Métis children who were stripped from their homes and forced to attend Indian Residential Schools. It is a time to acknowledge the survivors, their families, the intergenerational impacts, and the thousands of children who never made it home. This Indigenous-led grassroots day is inspired by the story of Indian Residential School Survivor Phyllis Webstad. Visit orangeshirtday... for her story.
