An eye opener. I think,Testorative Yoga teaches one pratyahara as the practioner has remain motionless. With more 🎉asanas in a session,it becomes cliser to physical exercises.Tganks.
What an inspiring talk! I have had your mother's Relax and Renew book for close to 20 years when I was encouraged to buy it during my yoga teacher training. I am now ready to start teaching restorative yoga. I happened upon your 3 tip restorative yoga class sequencing video and am so glad I did. Your mother must be very proud of you - a "chip off the same yoga block"!! You should come relax in the high desert of Joshua Tree to teach a class!
Hi Lizzie! Thank you for this video... Beautifully said. I have a suggestion regarding your point#3 that I learned from your Mama (that has helped me a lot in my teaching AND parenting 😊) and that is:. "Try this as an experiment". So if you think your students won't like fewer poses or fewer words ... Just try it as an experiment. See what happens. What is the reaction? You could try it for one class, one week of classes, one month. You could even approach it that way with your students "I'd like to try something as an experiment... Let me know what this is like for you". (There's also "would you be willing to try this as an experiment?") 😘
I was preparing for a Restorative class and it's so precious to find your true words Lizzie, Absolutely loooove your energy and message. Thank you for sharing!!!!!
Thank you for the tips! I've been struggling with timing, I was trying to fit more poses in. From now on I will take my time and allow more quiet for my students.
Thank you so much for this. I am in YTT200 trying to find a theme for myself and have been discouraged and lost. But restorative is really resonating with me and so many words in your video are the exact gifts what I want to be able to give to someone else through yoga. Thank you!
Thanks Lizzie. I'm new to teaching restorative and struggling with the need to 'give them more'. I typically do 3 or 4 poses in 60 minutes at the recommendation of my teacher. Average age of my students is 75 so it takes them longer to get set up with the props. Good reminders, less talking and I agree with the comment below, no music!
Thank You 🙏🏾 I just started practicing restorative yoga and it’s a distraction when the teacher cue you out of the pose the very moment relaxation sets in and it’s a big distraction when the teacher talks throughout the class when I’m trying to focus inwards.. I am trying to find a teacher that follows your advice 😊
Thank you for this video... I love spending long times in each posture, but I have been worried that my students won't feel they are getting a good "value" for their money or that they won't like doing that. As a result I am probably doing too much...even the five postures I did last week started to feel rushed by the end, so this week... less. Thanks again.
I love all your ideas, Lizzie! Many many thanks for the guidance. I have what might be considered a unique situation, with my studio being nestled between a martial arts dojo and a dance studio. I'd love for there to be silence, but my shopping center neighbors aren't 'silent' by any means. Do you consider music acceptable under this situation? Simple bowls or chanting, just to set the boundary of the room to escape from the not-so-silent exterior that I can't control? Your thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated
I trust your intuition. Sometimes I openly address it with the students. Just saying: "we're going to let the sound become part of our practice today." One idea I love is for meditation, "noise is only a problem if you make it a problem." Watch your mind dance with the disturbance...
Hi Lizzy, thanks for this video. Enjoying it a lot. Question: you said that you don't like esoterism in meditation. Isn't The Radiance Sutras all about esoteric wisdom?
Fair point. But for me I still honor silence in my meditation practice above everything else. The Radiance Sutras are a source of inspiration, reading one or two a day...
Thank you. That is so true. Less is more, always in our lifes. I have a bit more of a mixed class. I start with meditation, practice 10-15 minutes of "rolling" one part of the body by using massage therapy balls, and then I teach (mostly) three poses and practice Savasana at the end. My class is between 75 and 90 minutes. I really would love to hear your opinion. Namasté. Love Silke
Lizzie Lasater let's see. Yesterday I had 10min Meditation, 15min Rolling, 6min 1st pose, 10min 2nd pose , 10min 3rd pose, 5min 4th pose and 10min Savasana. The class lasted 80min. Writing it down, looks a lot :-(
Dear Lizzie, all tips from you and “Mama Lizzie” are greatly appreciated, love that you remind us "less is more". Would you consider it is ok to start and finish with restorative Reclining Vishnu’s Pose (knees bent) ? I would like to place 5 little minutes of pranayama before and at the end without sitting down but laying down. So 90mn = Reclining Vishnu’s Pose + pose #1 + pose #2 + Savasana finishing with Vishnu’s pose again ~ thank you so much for your guidance
Love the idea of book-ending your classes with Pranayama. I would suggest this simple supported position, with the addition of a bolster under you knees: images.app.goo.gl/VH7WLnrQqNYw9Wzr6
Lizzie, can I ask when you talk about 3 restorative poses in 60 minutes does that include savasana at the end or is that extra on top of the 60 minutes?
Not exactly true, desk jobs, commuters need to move the body before their mind can calm down. Lack of movement causes mental dominance...it is about BALANCE. Read the class, appropriate to mood and needs. Some Good comments.
Darling Daughter: So lovely. You must have a great Restorative teacher. 😂
and such a humble one
"Sometimes, in yoga, the treats appear as hardships,"... Just beautiful, Lizzie! Thanks for this!

You are like a breeze of fresh air, Lizzie. I'm feeling so inspired by you. Thanks for that wisdom delivered with such grace.

Thanks, Rebecca. I love Joshua Tree. Maybe when the twins are a bit older...

Beautiful Lizzie. Thank you for all these insights and words of wisdom.
Thank you for this message!!! I'm new to yoga, over 60, in yoga school and thinking I need to know every kind of yoga to teach restorative yoga...
Thank you for sharing!! I begin teaching my first Restorative in two days and this really really helped. I love the book as well.
Namaste. 🙏
Thank you, this made me cry, I love your appeal of giving less, - this is so important and this is our mission 💚🙏
Thank you so very much Liz :) this’s just what I really needed right now 🙏🏻❤️

Great insight. Remember: rushing is the enemy of relaxation.

Well....sounds like alot for a 75min class. How long are the students in each of the three restorative poses? How long are they in savasana?
Lizzie Lasater let's see. Yesterday I had 10min Meditation, 15min Rolling, 6min 1st pose, 10min 2nd pose , 10min 3rd pose, 5min 4th pose and 10min Savasana. The class lasted 80min. Writing it down, looks a lot :-(
Fewer interruptions, more time to observe one's thoughts and bring the self back to the present.
How long would you hold each of the 3 poses Lizzie? ANd what do you do if anything between?
20 minutes!

Lizzie, can I ask when you talk about 3 restorative poses in 60 minutes does that include savasana at the end or is that extra on top of the 60 minutes?
The 60 minutes includes Savasana!
Is savasana considered to be one of the three poses or in addition?
It is ONE of the three. In fact, it's the most delicious part of any restorative class...
Wonderful Lizzie! I read a post from Yoga Journal the other day, offering af playlist of music for a restorative practice!! PLEASE... No thanks!
Uggg....
Thank you for giving us permission to keep it simple!
Totally!
are you including Savasana in your 3 poses? Or 3 + Savasana?
Three poses INCLUDES Savasana. That's how serious we are about slowing down :)
Do you consider a twist in both directions as one pose?
Yes, I do.
Not exactly true, desk jobs, commuters need to move the body before their mind can calm down. Lack of movement causes mental dominance...it is about BALANCE. Read the class, appropriate to mood and needs. Some Good comments.
she is speaking about a RESTORATIVE yoga class...
