It’s interesting though because watching the EDR this year is highlighting the pros wanting smaller bikes. Norco riders on Sights, Verner winning on a 130mm Forbidden Druid, the Specialized guys running stumpy Evos over Enduros with 150mm rears and Lyrik forks over Zebs. It would be interesting to see if your times actually improve should you get the bigger bike.
It's interesting to see a lot of those riders size down as well. They've got the skill and strength to get away with a smaller, less stable bike. They benefit is a more maneuverable bike for those tight euro tracks.
@@bikersedgeexactly why I'm going allied bc40 on a 130 fox 34 and on the burlier end aggressive xc/ light trail but yet ride it on the North shore. More and more riders want capable bikes that climb impeccably well.. All while crushing the descent ..Increasing skill can get you there on a lighter duty bike.
If you love the Ripmo V2 but want just a little more, you should try the Revel Rail 29. In my opinion its a better bike and I've owned both. It climbs just as well but has a bit more travel in the rear along with better traction. The rear suspension on the Rail just soaks up hits better, performs better in chatter and is equally as supportive. Its a killer bike!
Thanks for another great video. This bike is beautiful! and this is easily Ibis' best looking bike ever. This bike is a serious candidate to replace my MegatowerV2! I do love the MegaV2, but I am looking more of a Trail Worthy Bike as opposed to a pure Enduro and Park Bike like the MegaV2 is. I do miss the nice trail manners of my RipmoV1, to me that was the best all around peddling trail-bike that I have ever owned. My MegaV2 seems to be just more draggy and harder to pedal on long days than the RipmoV1. I do love the Mega at the DH parks and in the rowdy section, but even then, it is still not as plush and park worthy as a DH bike. Now that I have 2 DH bikes, I feel like the MegaV2 does NOT have a place in my stable anymore, and I should replace it with this bike. I prefer Mullet Bikes for the parks anyways, so another reason to replace the MegaV2 with this bike.
I love Ibis bikes and have owned several over the years. I can't really justify this bike for me personally anymore but I can see why others would love it. At my age, if I were looking for anything with this much travel, it would be of the "e" variety. Excellent video as always. Really appreciate the content!
Agghhh- I was waiting for a comparo with the Nomad. Maybe an entire vid? And bruh, I use enduro as an adjective all the time bruh. Like, you’re so enduro bruh. And like, my mom’s more enduro than your mom bruh. Enduro or die bruh. Wait, like that’s like, not an adjective.
Wish I didn't see this video. I've had an HD5 for 3 years now and love it. The mullet interests me very much. Not a fan of 29ers. My last bike was a 29er and I've demoed several. Never ridden a mullet, though. I like Ibis bikes and Chuck seems like a nice guy. I met him once and he sent me an email saying he appreciated my story of my rheumatoid arthritis and how I ended up getting an HD5. He said he would send it out to all his employees.
Looks nice. Love the two tone paint job. The orange and green looks fresh. I own a HD4. But I just bought a Santa Cruz Hightower V3 to replace it. Don't really need the big travel
Great review! Seems that Ibis managed to make a long travel bike with a very wide range of use. Enough travel for the rough stuff but short enough yo be fun on the tight stuff.
Thanks for the informative video. I, also, can't help but wish they slapped in the ole storage compartment, as well as perhaps some geo adjustments and a 29 compatible rear end perhaps.
Wish you could get your hands on the nomad v6 to compare. Would be a really close battle other than in frame storage, higher stack and all that good stuff! Another great edit! Btw tried the 150 lyrik on the 5010..liked it but way more fun once i put the pike back on.
Medium geo very similar to Previous model Firebird. Ibis we’re always a bit small ( i rode large @ 176cm) but now their medium looks dialed for medium guys :-)
I really like your thoughts on this bike is good for the regular guy that wants to participate in a enduro race but not be committed to a full enduro monster bike - I feel like that’s a lot mountain bikers
CONNER YOU'RE KILIN ME!!!! I can't wait!!!!!!!!! I also agree, 210mm on an XL should be standard. I ride the 240 OneUp on my Ripmo V2. All the colors look so good!
Thanks for the awesome review! I've been obsessing over the HD6 and after watching this, I'm convinced this is exactly the bike I need. My biggest concern is the size of the bike. I'm short (5'2"). I'm currently riding a small Juliana Roubion (also a mullet) and a small ibis DV9 (29er) and they are probably like just a teeny bit bigger than ideal. The Roubion does come in an XS but then it's just a 27.5 which makes me feel like I'm riding on top of the bike too much, now that I'm so used to 29ers. Anyway, I'm afraid that even the size 1 in this bike will be too big for me. Personal short lady shredder problems, I know...I'll look for one to demo. Lolz.
Dropper post insertion is a big priority for me. My Size L Norco Range easily fits my 240mm One Up dropper. At 6'4", I'm very pleased with that. I typically have to settle with 210mm droppers.
Definitely need to demo one of these. Interested to see just how smooth it is over chatter compared to horst link bikes, the Ripmo is definitely not the world's smoothest bike over chattery trails and braking bumps. Also sounds like it corners better than the Ripmo which has a notoriously vague front end.
Super rad review, more of what I was expecting compared to other reviews... but you are an XL and I am a medium... I wonder if smaller sizes ride similar.
Great review, and I finally got a chance to demo this bike, but I have a question. I may not have had the suspension set up right, but when things started getting spicy with a lot of steep, repeated hits, it felt like the back end was all over the place. Front end tracked well which kept it going the right direction, but the feeling of that back end was a little unnerving. Any thoughts? Thanks.
I felt a bit of the same at first. I ended up running a bit more sag than normal and it settled the rear end down a lot. Still didn’t have any bottom out issues or pedal issues.
This is the best review of the HD6 I've seen. I'm local and seriously considering this now. What DH trails are in this video? I recognize some of them, but what are the names of the more gnarly trails this bike is made for?
Great review- I’ve got a Santa Cruz Bronson that is very very similar to this bike in geo charts but 15mm less travel in the back and 20mm less up front. 1/2 degree steeper HTA. I’m wondering if the ibis actually climbs better than the Bronson? And will it feel as playful? Any take comparing those two?
I think this will be my next bike….if/when I have the space & scratch to add to my quiver. I’m looking for something more apt at park days, but still able to be pedaled for laps without a lift.
How does this compare to the evil wreckoning? Ive been on a v3 for the last 2 seasons amd love the bike but its fun to try new bikes so will be on something new next season. Great review, thanks!
Man, I'm in the market for a second bike in enduro/park bike space and there are just too many good options...i bought my spur from you guys based on your recs and love it. So, im a clydesdale who wants to smash black tech, get his bike in the air, and rail berms. Pedaling is secondary for me ( i have the spur), but dont want a pig. Looking at Megatower, sb160, Enduro, and now hd6 but have limited demo options in my area - help a customer out with a rec! 😊
Go buy a Stumpjumper EVO, ditch the stock rubber, and instill a set of Maxxis Assegai's. I was just at my local Specialized Dealer and nearly every was bike 25% off. By the way, Enduro's were also 25% off.
@@jamess.7261 I recently bought a Stumpy EVO for 25% off. This bike is extremely versatile. Steepen the geo and install light fast rubber and it's a long-travel Downcountry bike. Slacken the geo and install aggressive rubber and it's an Enduro bikepark bike.
We've done almost all of those bikes in our showdown videos. I'd point you in that direction for finding the one that will best suit how you like to ride. From the sounds of it, a MT wouldn't be a bad choice. Burly, stiff frame, tons of travel. Bonus points for pedaling pretty well.
I just sold my patrol mixed wheel and was looking at the megatower as the replacement. This looks great but I do want a bike that’s poppy and good for jumping, would you say the megatower is better peddling. Thanks
I personally think the only miss is no in-frame storage. Every other brand ibis directly competes with offers a "swat" box storage solution. Frame bag that is sold separately is a tough pill to swallow when there's sb160, orbea rallion, mega tower, even the specialized Enduro seems more modern imo.
Hey, I really appreciate your bike reviews! Especially since you seem to review every bike I´m interested in for my next one. As you are mentioning the HD6 is one of the more agile, sportier enduro bikes these days: how does it compare to the Orbea Rallon in climbing and (more important) decending? Do they feel comparable regarding the suspension feel?
I made that quick comparison in the video about the climbs. They’re both pretty comparable and quick. On the DH I think the HD6 rides a bit deeper and bigger without giving up much or anything in the corners. The Rallons suspension feels much firmer and supportive. Better for pumping and jumping.
Thank you for the reply! The first HD6s are available now here in Germany. I may have to swing my leg over one. Sometimes it’s hard to tell how much bike you really need for home trail and bikepark use without the home trails becoming to easy (aka ironed out) but also that your hands don’t fall of during braking bumps on high speed bikepark stuff.
Do you think shorter cranks on the xl would help strikes without losing the handling? Im 6’6 and my Ripmo has 175mm and I’ve though about shorter cranks but its also running a 240 mm dropper for my long as legs. Stuck between a rock strike and a hard place 😂 rock strikes come from bad technique mainly but it’s nice not to worry to much about them.
I would probably look into shorter cranks if I owned the bike. Not too concerned about the pedal strikes but it would help. Having the low BB is nice in the corners. Certainly noticeable.
Very nice review! I might have missed it, but what size frame did you get to test with (XL?) and what size are you? I'm 6'2" and would have gone for an XL, but seen already quite a few folks saying they'd go for the large instead. Any input is much appreciated.
@@bikersedge Thank you for the feedback. Much appreciated and I totally understand. I'm gravitating more towards the XL and will be test riding a Large next week.
Between this HD6, New Rocky Altitude and Transition Sentinel which would you recommend as a replacement for Rail29... Been curious about Rocky and Transition bikes but have yet to ride either.
The transition sentinel is more of an all mountain bike that the others you listed. Personally it’s one of my favorite bikes of all time. All of the listed bikes would be far more capable on the DH than your rail. You’d pay a climbing penalty too. The HD6 is probably the best on the climbs out of your list.
Hey thanks. I think it's playing the same game but the MT feels very different. It feels bigger and deeper than the HD6. HD6 climbs better and feels sportier.
Seems ibis has taken feed back on chain stay protection and sound. Did you see an improvement on chain slapping and sound over other Ibis models? What determined the dropper length, if not size? How do you get a longer dropper?
No problems with chain slap and sound. Although I’m not super sound sensitive with bike stuff. Doesn’t bother me too much and certainly doesn’t affect ride quality. You can always buy a longer dropper post and install it. If I owned this bike I’d do exactly that.
I had a mullet Santa Cruz Bronson with the same low bottom bracket issue. I can't see myself owning a mullet bike again, even though the HD6 looks amazing.
I don't see it as a negative at all_ more of a plus in my book. It makes the bike corner so well. I'll deal with smacking a pedal from time to time on the climbs. Not a biggie.
I have ridden everything from 175-165 and to be honest I don't think it makes a huge difference either way in terms of pedal feel/efficiency. The ground clearance however is noticeable.
Hopefully an AF model will follow, also, I’m 6’ 2” and the 170mm dropper on my XL Ripmo AF is just right slammed, not everyone has Jack Skellington length legs…I think 185mm should be the XL standard tho, nice middle ground.
What bike would you recommend to a XC rider who wants a confidence inspiring bike that doesn't compromise climbing but is way more capable for more all-mountain/enduro category?
It’s tough to find an enduro bike that doesn’t compromise climbing. Don’t think that really exists. You’re always going to give up climbing performance if you want more DH performance. That said some of the better climbing enduro hikes I’ve ridden are the Rallon and HD6
@@bikersedge I understand that. I'm looking to add a bike to the stable that is completely different from my XC bike (Specialized epic evo) to ride some more demanding trails with less "sketch" but that can still be pedaled. I was thinking about a Ripmo but is the HD a valid option or will it be too much of a shock? (no pun intended)
@@Mardegente2024 It's tough to say. Yes the HD6 will be much bigger than your Epic. A Ripmo will be closer, but still more capable. If you want "completely different", the HD6 will be more of a difference. If you want less Shock, the Ripmo would be the move.
In all youtube videos of this bike the Traffic Cone *_Orange_* option you got there looks pure red. Something wrong with color correction on youtube/the video itself, because I see this so often in here.
Compare it to the Ripmo, damn it! Maybe Ibis made you sign a NDA for that!...LOL. Sounds like a great bike! I still love my V1 Ripmo! The best bike I ever owned. Could the HD6 be too much bike for some? Like people complain about the Ripmo being too much bike for them.
This is significantly bigger and burlier than a Ripmo. In my mind the ripmo is on the border of the trail/all mountain categories. This is way more enduro. Could be overkill for some folks. Still pretty mild mannered for how big it is.
Very similar thoughts on the sag, was sitting a little low at the recommended setting. After pumping it up a little I found it a bit more responsive and poppy. Could be the tune on the X2, who knows. I love the HD6 off jumps so far coming from a Ripmo. Way more jibby than that bike.
@@bikersedge and well done on the content you produce. I know it's not easy and please know that as a fellow 190+cm rider it's very much appreciated getting your perspective over the usual lighter / shorter rider. Keep it going!
Can anyone comment on size 5 reach vs. chainstay? I'm 198cm with very long arms (210cm wingspan :D ) and this reach seems great, but will this bike climb and turn with 540mm reach vs. 435 CS??? Any XXL frame users around? ;)
Really love all of your content 🤘🏻Would you say the rail 29 or the hd6 feels better in the corners and which one would be the fun-er all mountain bike.
Ibis and Yeti are reputable brands, but God their bikes are visually so sub-par, and boring compared to Santa Cruz, Transition, Commencal etc. Great video!
@@bikersedgehaha my man. Sticking to your gunz. Love your content btw. Got some Conti tires for my Ripmo. Dig them so far. Little drifty w the xynotal. But def watched your chan before getting em thanks!
I feel like the Conti stuff is just slightly lighter duty than it’s Maxxis counterpart. The enduro in Conti is probably just right below a double down but not as light as an EXO+
Chainstay is too short. With a mullet, one doesn't need that short of chainstay. The 27.5 rear is inherently more maneuverable. The SC Nomad got it right with their chainstay length.
I'd argue that you don't really get the full handling benefits of a mullet without a shorter chainstay. the handling/maneuverability comes from the overall shorter wheelbase that a 27.5 allows. Sure the wheel itself offers some benefits in terms of butt clearance, acceleration and maneuverability in the air, but a mullet bike with a long chainstay will corner similar to a comparable length 29 chainstay.
Plenty stable. Bikes are a matter of give and take. The HD6 isn’t as stable as others longer slacker bikes. But it makes up for it in the corners. A longer chainstay would make it more stable but also harder to corner/maneuver regardless of wheel size.

Thank you for perfect review. Could you please compare HD6 to Nukeproof mega 297? In terms of jibby/plow feel. Thank you
We don't carry Nukeproof. I won't be able to get one to compare.
Very nice review! I might have missed it, but what size frame did you get to test with (XL?) and what size are you? I'm 6'2" and would have gone for an XL, but seen already quite a few folks saying they'd go for the large instead. Any input is much appreciated.
I'm 6'2" and rode an XL. I liked the fit. I don't give out specific size advice over the internet. It's a crapshoot without seeing you on the bike.
@@bikersedge Thank you for the feedback. Much appreciated and I totally understand. I'm gravitating more towards the XL and will be test riding a Large next week.
@@fritzg.375 smart. That’s the best thing you can do for sizing.
@@fritzg.375which one did you end up going with? I'm 6'2'' and have an S4 on order. Curious
That wide line on Red Bull freaked me out, thought you were gonna hit the stump for half a second.
You’re not the only one….
@@bikersedge 😂First time I rode that trail that's where I OTB'd.
I’ve crashed on that trail more times than I care to admit. Although I’m coming up on 150 laps on it. Game of numbers I suppose.
@@bikersedge Nice, looks like it's ready to go this year. I've got a few laps to catch up to that, lol.
Nice video! Is that PCMR?
Hey thanks. Yes it is.
Great review! You think it’s close to the Megatower V2?
Hey thanks. I think it's playing the same game but the MT feels very different. It feels bigger and deeper than the HD6. HD6 climbs better and feels sportier.
Thanks!
@@bikersedge thanks!
I like your style Dude.
Hey thanks! I appreciate it!
The Dude abides.
Big White Russian guy over here
I have the 2019 Ibis Mojo HD4 and wonder if this is better at climbing. HD4 is super playful, but is this better for riding Sardine Peak at Snowbasin?
I’d probably say the older HD4 would be better for mellow terrain like Sardine.
This looks a lot like the Santa Cruz Hightower LT. That being said, it looks great!
👍
Have you tried the Nomad 6? How would this compare?
Havne't ridden that yet unfortunately.
Yes, it is
Wow was that a snow field in late june?
Yes sir. We had a crazy winter. Right above where I rode they still have 10' of snow.
@@bikersedge how do you think it would be with some 165mm cranks or even shorter ones from canefield?
I have ridden everything from 175-165 and to be honest I don't think it makes a huge difference either way in terms of pedal feel/efficiency. The ground clearance however is noticeable.
Would you pick sb160 for your only bike over the HD6? for your personal style and usual riding I mean.
Tough call - I like them both quite a bit. I've been leaning more toward MX bikes lately though.
Hopefully an AF model will follow, also, I’m 6’ 2” and the 170mm dropper on my XL Ripmo AF is just right slammed, not everyone has Jack Skellington length legs…I think 185mm should be the XL standard tho, nice middle ground.
Most XLs across the board are in the 200mm range on droppers these days.
Ive fallen in love with my new Giant Trance X advance pro 1 2023
Now you have me wondering if I need to swap my Ripmo for an HD6. Gee, thanks!
You're welcome.
I have a Ripley but it does not have a UDH bracket. Does this new iteration have one? Or do I still need to wait?
The HD6 uses UDH
I like my Ripmo 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
@@bikersedge thanks a lot. Big fan of your work, best reviews on RUclips
@@Mardegente2024 hey thanks for the kind words!
I just moved up to utah from southern california. Where were you riding in this video?
Park city mostly.
What is the maximum tire clearance in the rear? 2.6 ?
Yes. 2.6.
In all youtube videos of this bike the Traffic Cone *_Orange_* option you got there looks pure red. Something wrong with color correction on youtube/the video itself, because I see this so often in here.
It’s pretty reddish orange.
What your pick between this and the megatower?
Very different. The MT definitely rides bigger and burlier. The HD6 feel a bit more all-mountain.
This is very very similar, to a Commencal clash. Clash is a fantastic bike as well
This looks soooo good!
Agreed.
Compare it to the Ripmo, damn it! Maybe Ibis made you sign a NDA for that!...LOL.
Sounds like a great bike! I still love my V1 Ripmo! The best bike I ever owned.
Could the HD6 be too much bike for some? Like people complain about the Ripmo being too
much bike for them.
I had the opposite feeing. I had to reduce the air pressure to get the traction on the rear that I wanted.
@@bikersedge Interesting! I misunderstood. I'm still tuning it up slowly but surely...Got a 210 dropper on it now.
@@SkiRidesMTB yeah this one took me a little longer to get dialed than most.
Looks like a YETI with CBF
Edit: SB160, Spectral with CBF Horst combo suspension
How do you feel this compares to the Sentinel?
This feels bigger and rides deeper. Less poppy than a sentinel.
@@bikersedge Cool. Thanks for the insight. Wish it had longer chainstays but I am interested in trying one out. Keep up the good work.
@@LocoDeerSlayer it’s funny how longer chainstays were a deal breaker even just a few years ago.
If they made an AL park build it would probably sell very well.
That would be rad.
Do you think its more efficient than a sb165 on the climb?
Yes.
Looks great, rear is too short for XL in my view. And yes, it looks like a Yeti, with a Santa Cruz rear end to me at least.
Fair enough!
@@bikersedge and well done on the content you produce. I know it's not easy and please know that as a fellow 190+cm rider it's very much appreciated getting your perspective over the usual lighter / shorter rider. Keep it going!
Hey thanks!
place a mirror on the tabel, so while sitting at the tabel you see the camera in te reflection - then you won't need to sit up to be visible taking :)
Ooooh. There’s an idea.
I hope Ibis puts a 36 on the Ripmo now.
I would Imagine that will happen.
Can it be ran with 29” in the rear?
No. Mullet only.
@@bikersedge 😔
Can anyone comment on size 5 reach vs. chainstay? I'm 198cm with very long arms (210cm wingspan :D ) and this reach seems great, but will this bike climb and turn with 540mm reach vs. 435 CS???
Any XXL frame users around? ;)
Looks a lot like the Revel Rail?
Yeah, it also looks like a yeti
Yeah it does.
How does it compare to the rail 29?
Way more Enduro. The Rail 29 is much closer to a Ripmo.
Really love all of your content 🤘🏻Would you say the rail 29 or the hd6 feels better in the corners and which one would be the fun-er all mountain bike.
Grate review . please review canfieldbikes ONE.2 SUPER ENDURO .
Thanks. We doing cat Canfield. Can’t make it happen.
Ibis and Yeti are reputable brands, but God their bikes are visually so sub-par, and boring compared to Santa Cruz, Transition, Commencal etc. Great video!
I might have to fight you on that one - personally a big fan of the looks on these. Luckily looks don't impact how a bike rides.
Wish it was a full 29er. Ibis always fkn it up.
Nah. They got this one right.
@@bikersedgehaha my man. Sticking to your gunz. Love your content btw. Got some Conti tires for my Ripmo. Dig them so far. Little drifty w the xynotal. But def watched your chan before getting em thanks!
@@talesfromthetrailz stoked! Those tires are awesome.
@@bikersedge btw I have DH f/r have you tried the Enduro in the rear? Are they like DD or more like Exo+?
I feel like the Conti stuff is just slightly lighter duty than it’s Maxxis counterpart. The enduro in Conti is probably just right below a double down but not as light as an EXO+
"Really anything less than a 210mm dropper on an xl is too short." My man!
I’m a bit of a princess when it comes to droppers.
Cool bike! I saw some shots of it on Jack moir's RUclips channel. She's a looker
Very nice.
I wish I came home to built bikes in my garage.
Movie magic
My favorite thing I learned today. What to call a flock of Ibis riders
Ibeeces 🤣
I think that’s actually an Iboose. Could be wrong though.
I totally feel the knee pops man...
#oldmanknees
I came here looking for Bikers on the edge, no leather jackets, no patches, no harley davidsons whatsoever
That’s our other channel.
Uploaded a bit early maybe? Ibis hasn’t even released the bike yet…
Nah. Embargo was 9AM PST.
lol pop pop goes the knees! 😆
My knees are way older than me.
Ibis dun made a Revel Rail, y’all!
@@bikersedge but how is the high speed stability of the HD6?
Plenty stable. Bikes are a matter of give and take. The HD6 isn’t as stable as others longer slacker bikes. But it makes up for it in the corners. A longer chainstay would make it more stable but also harder to corner/maneuver regardless of wheel size.
@@bikersedge Thanks for the feedback!
$11000 usd for the highest build is crazy for an ibis tho. could get 2 nicer bikes if u know where to look
Most top tier builds across any brand will be comparable. Not saying it’s right. Just saying ibis isn’t worse than the competition.
Everyone is calling it the HD6 but it clearly says HOG on there. ;)
My Goldilocks bike has all of those features and is under $1000. I think I am going to be waiting awhile.
I think thats called a unicorn.
