So many backpacks and choices! Thank you for the review, great video and informtaiton, and your staring into the camera while taking out the laptop had me laughing very hard. lol
I have used this pack for travel both domestic and Europe. On a recent 3 week trip I am able to pack all my stuff into a small carry on size piece of rolling luggage and then put everything else i need into my Porter 30. I usually check the carry on luggage and just take on the plane the Porter which has everything i need for the flight. I try to keep the weight down to 20 lbs or so. Osprey has made a couple of improvements to the bag since i bought it with the side pockets and lap top compartment in the back which seems nice. Great pack for travel.
I like the design of the Porter so much more than the Farpoint. Only if it had the backpack straps and waist straps as good as the Farpoint, this would have been better than the farpoint in all aspects.
i'm trying to decide between those two actually. Still undecided....i feel the farpoint looks so flimsy and large but has larger storability while the porter i find more aesthetically pleasing and easier as a carry on.
Wow nice video, I got one in 2016 and I see there has been some enhancements in the cabin area. I see that the 2017 edition has a new front compartment layout, new zipper pockets in the main compartment and an extra compartment for a laptop.
The challenge is that the compression effectively locks the organization front panel. On international flights and airports where you want to quickly get at a charger, cords, earbuds, etc. How do you get easily past the compression straps without them fetching up on seats of what-not. Cheapo Samsonite tech packs have 2 or 3 front/top access pockets and water bottle openers. But, want something more sophisticated and durable.
Thanks for the comment. If you check out the video around 1:27, you’ll se the external liquids pocket. This is a medium sized pocket that can be accessed without having to undo the compression straps. You can throw your earbuds, charging cables, or anything else in there for easy access.
Is that the teal color variant? In Osprey's images it looks REALLY teal whereas in this video it's more like a blue (assuming the color and lighting in the video is accurate).
This is the teal color. This was in a temporary studio, and we didn't have the lights/color temp dialed in. The true color is more teal than our video would imply. Sorry for the confusion!
Osprey's travel packs often do not feature waist pockets or additional exterior storage on the sides of the pack. This is to increase the exterior durability and streamline the pack for travel.
I just bought this pack and I have high hopes for it as a carry-on bag. I am baffled by one feature of the bag though. What is with the two clips on the side opposite where the loops are for the shoulder strap? I can't figure out what these could possibly be for.
These loops are extra lash points, which are actually designed to fit an Osprey Daylite pack, piggypacks on the outside. You can check out the Daylite here: www.enwild.com/osprey-daylite-2016.html?.com&NdBtGCixKs
Two of the clips are meant for the shoulder straps (to make it into a backpack), the others seem to be another option for compression. I don't have the pack in front of me, but, if the bag wasn't very full, it looks like you could pull the straps all the way across and attach them into those extra clips. Might also be useful for strapping certain unwieldy objects (skis, skateboards, guitars, etc) to the pack.
Thanks for asking. The top zippered pocket would be a prefect spot for your passport, wallet and shades. You can access it without touching the compression straps. Check it out in the video around 1:27
At 20" x 13" x 12" it is approved for domestic or international carry-on use. However, it's important to note that restrictions vary by airline, so it's always a good idea to check with your specific airline before carrying on!
It depends on how much you carry of course. This bag has 1831 cubic inch capacity, so you could measure a box with a similar capacity (measure and multiply the interior height, width, and depth in inches to get the box's capacity) and see if the clothes you want to bring will fit.
If it helps, I'm planning on taking this for vacations as my main luggage from now on. If I've packed for 3 days, I've packed for 3 months since I can do laundry easily. And as Cynthia says, packing cubes with this are really helpful.
Thanks for the questions, there's a new tablet/notebook sleeve that's accessible independently; in addition they've slimmed down the waist belt and buckle and have changed the configuration on storage organizers.
Nice review, cheers for the content. That laptop part had me in stitches, haha.
Thanks! Stay tuned!
lol i used this for 3 months backpacking, not just a weekend lol It's good
Great review. The sultry laptop segment had me rolling. Keep up the great work.

Enjoy!

I am wondering why they don’t provide a side pocket for water bottle.
So that it remains streamline for cabin air travel. You can attach your water bottle onto one of the hooks for when you are backpacking
missin a bottle compartment

where do i keep my water bottle..?..why no side pockets for water bottle..between your reviews are really aawesome buddy

@@Enwild , they're not loops. They are like the clips on the compression straps but it's only half the clip.

Is there a quick access pocket for passport, wallet and shades without having to deal with the compression straps?
Thanks for asking. The top zippered pocket would be a prefect spot for your passport, wallet and shades. You can access it without touching the compression straps. Check it out in the video around 1:27
Can you put a Nintendo switch in a case and its dock and some clothes inside?
The pack is Super Smash Bros ready! You could certainly fit a switch and dock along with some clothing inside!
@@Enwild ok thanks
What color is that?
is the laptop part padded? not gonna risk it with a 2.5-5k laptop.
It certainly is padded, but just a bit to not add too much weight.
Do you know many liters that orange bag is that you pulled out of the main compartment?
That would be the 20L. Thanks so much for watching!
Is it good for Ryanair under the seat?
At 20" x 13" x 12" it is approved for domestic or international carry-on use. However, it's important to note that restrictions vary by airline, so it's always a good idea to check with your specific airline before carrying on!
Is this enough for a 2 week trip? (Backpack only for clothes)

Any water bottle holding area?
Thanks for the question! The Porter 30 travel pack, does not have exterior storage for a water bottle.
good day! Can a 15.6 laptop fit in the laptop compartment? thank you.
Yes, Ian, it can. That's a 15" laptop seen at ruclips.net/video/fNdBtGCixKs/видео.htmlm50s
What's the difference between the new osprey porter and the old osprey porter
Thanks for the questions, there's a new tablet/notebook sleeve that's accessible independently; in addition they've slimmed down the waist belt and buckle and have changed the configuration on storage organizers.
@@Enwild And the 2021 Porter 30 is also slimmed down to 8" height rather than 10"...Maybe another video comparing 2020 with 2021 Porter 30..
There no load lifters. And why the heck are everyone taking a laptops, should not use a tablet with Bluetooth keyboard.
