I love all of the people who are citing incredible differences between these two channels. Can we just be honest that there is sparsely a difference? Perhaps, if the silk was engaged and turned up, we may have heard more of a difference, but this comparison reveals just how subtle any differences are between two great sounding channels. Very little magic is ever in the channel once using a quality tool; the magic is in us and in how we use our tools. And being convinced otherwise turns us into tools.
I hear the punch and transient attack with the API at 2khz-4khz. Neve always has a bigger low end 60hz-120hz ish thing. Neve mids get really tasty and crunchy in a good way when the the 2-4K eq is pushed. API will give a more accurate high frequency response for cymbals and slightly smooth them without killing transients. Neve will tame the highs in a good way and make bad cymbals and crappy condenser mics sound acceptable. They’re both amazing industry standard for a reason. Thanks for the great video!
@@lovecraftmusic8717 I think we just have different adjectives for describing sounds. If I had a dull jazz guitar tone I’d punch it up with api. If I had a harsh tone I’d round it out with a neve.
Wow, the API has so much more “meat”(I am of course assuming these are properly gain matched). The Neve mids sound anemic by comparison but with added sub. A slightly cheaper/“hyped” representation in this comparison(I think of RN stuff as having a very “full and even”/larger than life high fidelity sound)... It’s most likely situational of course and the API just sounds better to ME and with THIS track. I rarely prefer API pres in comparison videos. Surprised me. Thanks for posting!

Whoever likes api owns api, whoever like neve owns neve
no discernable difference.
Api strong transient

Thanks for checking it out and your comment!
This.
Mmm... I hear a more rounded sound with Api: drums sound more "rock", while on the Neve it's almost "jazz" and roomy like Led Zeppelin.

How did you have the silk set on the 511, which one do you like the best?
sounds like a faster transient front of the drum hits with api, neve is a little duller

Neve sounds better to my ears almost tape like api is a more precise sound
511 has more mid/low definition.
Hi i was wondering when using your two pre's which was which, i mean you couldn't have used the snare and bass drum at the same time or did you ?
Hey! Yeah I did snare and kick both through same pres.
@@riotcitystudios1985 Oh ok thanks that was good to know. Also that would be some big bucks for 2 of both lol.
Is there any limiter/maximizer on it?
Nope, there was no other processing being done at all. Thanks for the question, I should have clarified that in the description 👍
Okay, thank you. Volume level is pretty high for raw files. I presume that drummer was pretty delicate with the attack? @@bebopstudioswv
neve sounds fatter api sounds cleaner
What’s the 500 series chassis used?
Thanks for the comment. All preamps were in the same API 6 slot lunchbox.
