Totally agree 💯 these are so much fun to have, they're active, smart, beautiful, very curious about what your doing and at least for my three...they all love attention.
I've owned collareds before and you are right! These guys make excellent pets! Highly active making them quite entertaining and enjoyable. Really enjoy the cat-like movements they make with their tail! My fav pet reptile by far!
My first "store bought" lizard was a female collared lizard named clarabell. I was like 9 years old. My mom got pissed. Didn't take long until the whole family loved her. Came home from school one day and my mom had her in her lap watching TV
Through the years my interests have gravitated towards species that can be kept in groups. What drew me towards collard lizards in the first place, and the bright colors they come in.
These make awesome pets. But 1 pet store owner said he had to stop carrying them b/c he couldn't keep them alive. I seemed to keep mine happy by letting him roam around everyday. He loved getting onto a slanted shiny magazine & use it like a treadmill. He'd slide as he was running up it so he never reached the top. He'd do that for over an hour. He also came to me when I called him. Check out my video "My lizard comes when I call him"
Got to love collard lizards! Video gives a perfect reason why they make great pets. They are like cats when they attack their prey or bask doing the tail wiggle.
There personalities is what gets me I dnt own one of these but since I joined you're page and seen these beautiful reptiles I have been luv every since I was supposed 2 get a blue mexican crocodile lizard 4 my birthday the rona got the expo cancelled so I couldn't get a new lizard 4 my birthday gift I would b happy with the blue 1 intill this is over I would total welcome him n 2 my home congratsb2 who ever wins u will b getting a great pet
Awesome video! All reasons why I love mine, I love to feed him, their feeding response is great, and they like to like hunt and chase their bugs for sure! I'm still a little nervous to have mine out and handle him for an extended period of time, but I am definitely working up to being able to carry him around a room for a solid chunk of time! I also love that you can co-hab males and females! It means I can get more!! :D
Just curious but do they sometimes or do you sometimes let them exercise their legs considering that in the wild they're known from running on two legs when they hunting for prey or escaping from predators
Yes monitored time outside the enclosure is a great source of enrichment. In addition, their enclosures are 4'x2' floor space to try to encourage movement within the enclosure.
Yes it’s illegal and you should release it next year they do have collection permits there but you must apply and get it first. Sadly that little guy is illegal to own.
Hey I just caught a collared lizard in the desert and was checking RUclips about them, we’re gonna keep it so do you have any tips I can have on the cage size or how to make it the most comfortable for him
Parker Mills first make sure you have the proper hunting or fishing licenses to keep a wild caught one from your state. And if it was in a state/national park you MUST put it back. And then the next step is to get it dewormed and do a quarantine proses, taking him to a vet for a fecal to check for the GI parasites will be the easiest way to deworm it. Check out our quarantine video for a proper setup. You want to do this to allow it to adjust and adapt to captivity and not stress to much also if it’s an adult you will need a 75 gallon or larger enclosure to give it’s the space it needs. Also our care video covers the lighting and feeding. But you can also go to our website or Facebook and ask for our care sheet that has all this information too.
I don't understand why these incredible lizards aren't more popular than then should be.
When you flipped him on his back and he remained chill, I was sold.
I love how active they are, not just a pet rock

Collared lizards are Amazing!!!!
Good info. I can imagine people think they can use a small enclosure for such a small lizard, so it's nice you're keeping people informed about care.
The more I learn about these guys the more I want one

What I always say is that of you get 1 Collared Lizard you will end up wanting 2, 3 or 10.. that how great they are

aqua flame was too cute on the walk around , i do the same with my dragons , each at different times of course
ROBIN BLACK now all you need is a collared to some it with as well! More laps for you!
@@TheLizardDoctor i so can't wait for my aqua flame to arrive , just have to think of the most coolest name to give him
I love all Reptiles even you know I'm more of a Tarantula/True Spider guy but I have a Pac-Man Frog
Collared lizards are amazing 😉
Do they like to climb?
They love to perch up on the highest basking point and climbing is good enrichment for them!
Are they good for beginners?
I’d say do your research first it can be if you research but they are more of an experienced owner reptile.
How is cleaning their cage compared to bearded dragons?
Fairly easy and less smelly since no greens I do it weekly with a scooper and then every 6 months I change the substrate.
Do you have an instagram?
Yes both Colorful Collared Lizard Ranch and The Lizard Doctor you should check them out!
Do you breed these ? I want one 😭
Baby aqua flame male?????
Are you the one who sells collards in pet paradise 😍
theforgetmenot25 we sent some there yes!
I knew it. They're so underappreciated!! Beautiful animals.
Hey me and my girlfriend just caught what appears to be a collared lizard. Would you be able to give me any info on it?
What state are you in and do you have a hunting license?
@@TheLizardDoctor new mexico and no. We just moved from Florida so catching lizards is normal. But we have never seen this type
Is it illegal to have them without one?
Yes it’s illegal and you should release it next year they do have collection permits there but you must apply and get it first. Sadly that little guy is illegal to own.
I read in new mexicos amphibian policy that they are legal to catch as long as you arent trying to sell them.
god rlly took a bearded dragon and said copy and paste
