This video helped me to problem solve 2 dust blobs on the lcd panels of my Epson 5030, which I just picked up used for a great price. I didn't notice it at first, but started to after seeing some dark scenes. Most likely why they sold it. It took some doing, but now it is perfect. My technique was I held a dust extractor/vacuum above the lcd panel, where I was gonna blast it with compressed air. I noticed that just using compressed air alone had a tendancy to make the problem worse. Thanks! Much appreciated.
Couldn't agree more about your DLP comment. I have a few old Benq Dlp projectors that are still going strong with a little routine maintenance. My current unit is a 720P model that displays a gorgeous picture with a BluRay source. There are no filters on the unit, so I usually remove the covers and thoroughly clean it at least once a year. I have replaced the color wheel once, but this projector is approaching 10,000 hours of use, which I think is absolutely incredible for such a compact device.
I used to service projectors for a living before the crash of 08, for a few years. The biggest cause was like you mentioned, heat. But the number 1 killer was GENERIC LAMPS! people bought generic lamps which varied widely in UV output, and some lamps didnt have a UV filter at all! this would fry everything in the optics. First would be the polarizing film, which is what failed in your case. You can see the spot in the middle of the screen from fade, as well as the streaks. 9 times out of 10 its the polarizer. I have fixed quite a few hitachi LCD projection sets with the same failure using random parts pulled from old proxima and infocus units, got em going again. The older mid to late 90s epson poli-silicon LCD panels did have a failure issue and a recall which caused the panels to degrade and become a pixiliated mess as the problem progressed. Those were the days. We went from polisilicon LCD failure, to colorwheel failure on DLPs, to DLP chip failure itself. glad thats all over honestly.
+THEtechknight Yes and I covered that one on a few videos I have done. Genric lamps were a big problem. I did a tear down of a Samsung DLP that the color wheel shattered from a bad lamp that created a hot spot. I have a few DLP sets here, both Samsung. One is fine, no issues at all, and it is a 2003 unit, but the newer one, which is an LED engine DLP the DLP chip is on it's way out. Looks like a constellation of stars.Like you I am glad they are done.
I doubt the UV light output really mattered that much to the polarizers. It is just the heat that destroys them. Usually it is the blue polarizer that goes first as that part od the spectrum has the most energy. This is the reason why projector (and optics) manufacturers have been more recently making inorganic polarizers which are supposed to last longer becase their namesake of being made from stuff that doesn't burn or react with oxygen. Generally projector polarizers are just made from some kind of plastic, which over time will go through some reaction to make the polarizers go bad.
Helped immensely, I had to fix my Iris Error. Got me in and out at least. PS the Limit Switch didn't stop the gate and I had to reposition it between the two.
With some experience on opening/closing the ribbon cables... ( 5:30 ) Especially with older projectors the white tabs can become very fragile. I've broken a couple and recommend using at least two fingers to try and lift them, preferably even something that fits under the whole connector like a plastic tab that evens out the load so they don't break. Same goes for when reinstalling them.
This was great. I was scared of pulling hard on the front cover on my 5030 and this got me through and help with getting in and cleaning some dust off the optics. Thanks!
Good video. I wish you did more projector tear downs. If an epson projector has passed 3 years it's done well. They all have this problem. And spare parts are not available.
Be careful when taking off the top cover. There is a plastic pole for the screw on the left side (from the rear) that is close to the 2-pin fan power cable. When I got the lid off I have accidently pulled that cable out. When I assembled everything together and turn the projector on the source and temp lights started blinking. I was so nervous that have broke something. After opening it again and attaching the loose cable everything got back to normal.
This also works for the 5030UB projector. They're almost identical. Any advice on fixing the overheat/temp light on cold startup issue? I think I've located the temperature censors but don't know the part number or what I should do to otherwise fix them. Thank you for this video.
Bit of a older video revival, how do i go further and remove the lens assembly attached to the optical engine in one piece? I have a eh-tw7200 with dust blobs and really need to clear from the bottom of the assembly upwards than cleaning in downwards
12voltvids - if I'm seeing green blobs on black screens and purple blobs on white screens I'm assuming it's dust on the color lcd's. If so, where exactly would the dust be, to remove it? on the inside of the three panels that the ribbons are connected to, or on the three glass color filters that you shone light through? Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video, it was really helpful in guiding me through cleaning my tw7200. I have a question about a component that can be seen at 7:12. A little plastic tab just above centre screen which has two brass wires going through it. It draws power from the board but doesnt go anywhere. Any idea what this is? Yours looks attached to the optical block but mine is loose.
Great video! But if you dont mind need to ask for help. I followed all your steps, disassembly and assembly. Now my projector on Power On, Initiates makes the lens movement sound but not all the way then the Lamp/Temp LEDs flash Orange. I'd appreciate any pointers where something went wrong. Thanks
I have this projector and had some issues with dust spots (showing green and red). I opened it up to try to clean out the optical block but it appears the dust may have settled in or burned onto the polarizers. I tried my best to clean them with a makeup brush and an air puffer, but it didn't seem to help. Is there any procedure for either replacing or properly cleaning the polarizing filters in this particular projector? I was unable to find a replacement part with my google skills. Thanks for any help, and thanks for this great teardown video.
Absolutely love your videos. My Epson 4050UB has blinking blue (status) and blinking orange (lamp) lights with no power light. Epson manual says "Internal projector failure, contact Epson support". Where would you start on diagnosis? Repair shop said it would either be board replacement, fan issue, auto-iris failure or Cinema filter motor. I've replaced the lamp the filter looks brand new. It will not turn on other than the above blink pattern. Starts with power light and blinking blue status light, then after a minute or so, the fan kicks in high and the lights change to (power light off, status light remains blinking blue, lamp light blinking orange). Would love to have your guesses as to the likely cause and how you would troubleshoot.
I let run the fans in my projector on full speed, thanks to the service menu, it's a bit noisy, but it keeps the device quite cool. Btw, if I would have access to a spare panel, I would try to replace it anyway.
Wow that did get toasted! Interesting burn pattern. I wonder if the dust that settles on the lcd panels can be burned by the lamp and in turn become more opaque and darker and absorb even more light and create more heat, killing those areas of the panel. And also In my projector there is a fair amount of air that goes into other openings around the lens and around the filter. If the filter isn't clean that will only increase that problem of course.
+wdavem Yes it got toasted real good. Heat has always been an issue. That is why I like dlp projectors myself. 3 panel dlp are pretty impressive. But then they do cost big bucks they should look good.
Very informative, well communicated video. I recently purchased a second hand Epson home cinema projector (8700ub) which has a pink tint on upper left side of picture and green tent on upper right. I suspect it may be heat damage as fellow I purchased projector from heated his home with wood and kept theater area quite warm. Filter looked discolored so I replaced it but damage may have been done. I am a bit nervous about servicing the projector myself for fear of making things worse.i am in New Brunswick Canada, any tips on where I could send the unit for service ( are you thinking of comming out of retirement any time soon 😉). Thanks again !
I know this is an old vid but I see you're still active on uploading vids... Just curious if you might have a vid on the power supply on the Epsons? Lot's of complaints and people saying that Epson has been selling their projectors with faulty power supplys but the 5010 to the 5040 all use the same power supply? I was thinking of buying a bricked Epson and trying to repair the power supply.
Great video - thanks for taking the time. I have a similar Epson 6010 (I suspect the guts are the same) that has vertical lines on the display (about 5 of them). Some of the lines come and go so I don't think they are "burned in". Any suggestions as to the cause? I will clearly be more vigilant about cleaning the filter - thanks for the advice.
Is it a single color for the lines or black / .white? If single color I would check the seating of the ribbon connector that the LCD panel plugs into the main board, if they are black or white, then it is affecting all 3 LCD panels then you have a problem in the video processor. At that point they become uneconomical to repair real quick. This projector was covered under the 3 year manufacture warranty so that is why I didn't proceed. Epson have a great warranty policy. You call them, they ship you a replacement projector (likely refurbished) and then you put the old one back in the box and send it on it's way. Now if only Onkyo would do the same for all their defective AV receiver, not noooo they want it sent in to be repaired, and you are without a sound system for 8-12 weeks. Unacceptable, would buy a new one before waiting 12 weeks with no TV. Not that mine needs fixing, I fixed it with the light bulb well over a year ago and it is still hanging in there, but they offered to replace the DSP chip. So far I haven't taken them up on the offer due to the long time of repair, and shipping.
Sounds like the same problem I have. Cleaning the connectors and replacing the connectors didn't help unfortunately. Hope you have more luck with yours Steven.
Hi, i am getting a very very faint but high pitch beeping / electrical alarm type ringing from the projector. Extremely annoying, I have changed the bulbs out to see if thats the issue but doesnt help. Do you think this could be the ballast failing? The noise sounds like it's coming from the ballast. Thanks
Great video, i have an Epson TW7200 with what i think are a few dust blobs (little blue & green circles that only show up on a black screen or dark scenes in movies). Will the procedure for taking the projector apart to clean the LCD panels be the same as this 6030 model? They look pretty much the same to me.
Craig Wiggan Internally they are fairly similar inside. The problem with dust it it creates a hot spot that can damage the plastic polarizing filter. The way to prevent this is to clean the air filters every week if it is used daily.
Dear 12voltvids: I have the ub model of this projector. Sadly never cleaned the filter and it has over 3500 hours. A straight vertical green light is appearing on the right side of the image now. It seems my optical block may also be damaged due to excessive heat but how can I order this part please? Any info like part number or a link or something would be appreciated. thank you. And funny cat by the way :) I had two that I miss.
Thanks for sharing the video. Very cool to see the inside of my projector. I’ve got an annoying sounds coming from mine that kind of sounds like an loud Hardrive in an older computer. It never used to make this sound or if it did it was much quieter than the fan sound, I burnt out a bulb, replaced it and when watching videos on replacement realized there’s a filter, so definitely ran this thing for a couple years with cleaning the filter, so obviously I damaged something inside, the picture still looks great, everything works just a really annoying sound coming from it. Can u suggest a damaged part I should look for if I take it apart. I’ve had success repairing a projector in the past, and take a lot of interest in electronic repair but I just don’t know all the components in a projector, what they’re called or even where to order replacement parts.
I had this problem and it was a bad (counterfeit) bulb. I bought what I was told was an OEM bulb from a place called Jasper Electronics. Came in a legit-looking box, but the projector made a high pitched noise. Traded out the bulb for another one from the same place and the same problem occurred. I thought that I must have a ballast problem, so I watched this video to replace my ballast board. Didn't fix the problem. Finally just bought a bulb straight from Epson and it fixed my problem immediately. Now I'm back at this video because all of the tinkering I did introduced some dust into the optical path and I need to go back in to clean it out.
@@bradandtubes THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I was about to start surgery on this thing and you've saved me a ton of hassle for sure. Ordered a new bulb, swapped it in and the squealing is gone.
Great video I have an Epson 3020e and need your advice please, I've kept filter clean it is inverted, getting blue shadow on right side of screen I've been reading and some r saying the blue polarizer lens-glass as slipped it is held in place by Aston that gives it just needs to push back down toll it clicks? Any ideas please help!
Any experience with the epson Moviemate 85hd? I opened the moviemate hoping the board was set up like the pro cinema 6030 but its not. The lens panels and ribbons are not as visible once you remove the housing. could the ribbons be under the board?
Hi there, I have an Epson 5030UB and has vertical lines projecting to the screen,I would like to know if you have a video with this fix or have an idea of what could cause this problem , I do enjoy your videos.
@@jorgeamarroquin8933 I would imagine it is relatively expensive. I have never changed the panels on a projector, but my DLP chip on one of mine is bad and the part is 275.00
I've got an Epson EH-TW4000 3LCD that I got like new for really cheap. It's not working lately and I wonder if it's worth taking apart like this if only just to check the connections and clean. It has usually magenta wavy patterns that change when the image does. The patterns are present with no input even when projecting test pattern! What do you think?
Hi, Thanks for all the information. I don't own a projector, but if I ever run across an "as is" one on clearance, I'll know what to look for. The first thing I'll look at is the filter. Regards, Tom
That's a good thing to do, but don't quit it before you see it working, because I've bought projectors with a lot of dust on the filter and the image was just fine.
I have an Epson 5030UB and recently the blue vertical line issue has occurred with my projector. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the 3 LCD plugs to no avail. Are there any other solutions to fixing this issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.
@@joselozano3161 I guess I have the same problem in mine eh-tw9200w. 8pixel vertical lack of RED. I bought RED LCD Panel from China www.iprojectorlamp.com - it is only 80USD according to 2000USD for replacing whole RGB prism and mainboard (service offer) which is like new projector. However I guess it is hard to replace one LCD panel, not sying it is undoable at home:), but I want to try.
Great videos very informative. I have moviemate 85hd projector. It's displaying a green image but when I turn the projector to its side it projects the image of blue. Can you give me your thoughts as to what might be causing this? I'm guessing one of the optical lenses are loose. Thanks in advance Anthony
Is the optical block something that can be user replaced? I saw Epson has their parts distributors listed (Encompass and Compass) but cannot find a specific part number available from them for the entire assembly. Do you think the cost of that part would make repairing this issue not worth it?
Hi, what exactly happened to your projector that the optical block needs replacing? my epson died and epsons repairer said the optical engine and motherboard needs to be replaced which costs $3000. I opened the projector myself with the help of this video and found that the powersupply had died, had burn marks all over it. Bought a replacement PSU for $100 and my projector was back up working perfectly. saved me buying a new projector and a potential 3000 to get it fixed.
wow thats amazing how a simple air filter can cause that definitely gonna go replace mine now haha. just letting mike karina know that just because a repairer says the motherboard and Optical engine need replacing doesn't necessarily mean they are correct. like i said earlier when my projector died i was told the same thing i.e u need to replace both board and OE. i was getting the flashing lights and projector wouldnt turn on etc. i opened the projector myself and found the PSU had blown which was only a $100 fix rather than $3000 + labour cost i was quoted
Obviously the repair guy wasn't familiar with it, and just looked at a blink code. I had a Tsacam DA40 that I picked up cheap for 20.00 that had a Mechana Comm Err displayed on the display. The guy that sold it said that he had been quoted 160 to repair it. Trouble found, popped 5 volt regulator and loading belt.
So I got my 6030 today and it does turn on - but both HDMI ports do not work (no signal) I tried component and the Pb does not function but I get a picture otherwise. VGA works perfectly but composite doesn't work at all. I pulled the mainboard out as in this video and do not see any visible damage upon close magnification. I would assume the mainboard is just fried at this point? Any idea what these things might cost? I verified the panels look perfect on video tests with VGA though.
It may be the effect that smoking causes in the projector, some people smoke and create anunpleasant tint in the optics, I had to clean my projector several times until I realized it and not let smoking in the room, it is expensive equipment to be damaged by this cause
Smokers ruin more than electronics. Just think about what they are doing to their lungs. I have no sympathy for folks with lung diseases brought on by smoking. I saw a number of my relatives have their lives cut short by smoking.
@@12voltvids Yes sir, I know a couple of good people that their only serious mistake in their youth was "fitting" into the smoking gang, now they can't run 15 miles straight and claim to be "in control" of their lives, and it's not just the harm that they do to himself but to their relative too physically and emotionally
PLEASE TELL ME WHERE YOU GET PARTS FOR PROJECTORS I'VE LOOKED EVERYWHERE FOR MY 6100.. If I can just get those polarized lenses it'll be fixed.. I just need one of them that's it..
I'm having a blue vertical line, sometimes 2 running down my screen (they used to disappeared, now one is a permanent feature) on my Epson 5020. I read that it might be caused by bad cable connections. Can anyone here maybe help me figure out how to fix this issue (if possible)? Great video too. Thanks for the insight.
@@nathen4021 I know. Unfortunately no one has offered me one yet. I just get the cheap LCD crapola ones and I don't want one bad enough to buy one because I don't watch tv or movies. My old plasma is good enough for the little tv I watch.
This vid helped me alot , we really need the right to repair to become law , please don't think for one moment that Epson will sell you a new optical block, THEY WILL NOT , the only fix is to buy a new projector , Epson do this on purpose ,
We used to have government mandates in place. I remember then well. At that time a 20" Sony trinitron sold for 999.95 and if you wanted stereo sound it was 1299.99. A basic vhs hifi was 1599.99. 8mm camcorder 1499, and if you wanted hi8, that was going to cost you 2299.99. Having parts stocked for 7 years as mandated by governments of the day was stupid. Maintaining all that inventory if parts that might fail drove the cost of electronics up. I remember the first plasma TVs we sold. The year wss 1999, and a 42" standard definition wide screen plasma TV was 12,000.00
@@12voltvids its just not fair that my 3 year old £2700 projector with a well known problem you cannot repair, the maker refuses to sell the part ,what with the green issues going on at the moment i can only see this going to landfill,EPSON SUCK
@@stevenmp3 90% of the failures are caused by the owner not cleaning the air filters at the prescribed interval. A projector in heavy use needs the air filter cleaned about once a week, and in an environment where people smoke it needs to be cleaned even more often. All manufactures recommend cleaning the filter every 10 hours of use. If you don't first the air flow is reduced which allows heat to build up. Second a dirty filter allows dirt to get through which sticks to optics and the dust insulates from cooling and causes a hot spot. Using in a smoking environment accelerates this. It sucks but the manufacture is not really responsible for damage caused by the user and the majority of the engine failures were caused by abuse. Most people are shocked to discover there is a filter that required frequent cleaning. Usually because they didn't read the manual or they had a home theater installer put the system in and were never told this. It's like the guy that never changes the oil in his car and when the engine blows up expects the manufacture to fix it.
@@12voltvids I get this, but car manufacturer's will happily sell you a replacement engine. I think setting a time period on replacement parts is silly, but if a manufacturer has repair parts for itself or for select businesses they should sell them to the public
@@kingrpriddick Well car engines don't change much year to year. Electronics on the other hand change every new model. It would cost a fortune to stock. So they don't. If something breaks under warranty they just replace with a new one.
Have anyone faced a false "lamp error" on Epson Powerlite 4030 or similar projector? It's very annoying to turn it off and on repeatedly until it eventually works fine
Great video, I have the Epson 5030ub which I am having problems with the HDMI's. Not sure why the HDMI ports aren't working. The VGA and composite ports are working so I can use the projector. The only thing that doesn't work are the HDMI. I called to try to get it fixed and was told that it needed to be sent to Epson and the cost is close to $800. Epson sells the same projector refurbished for $1200, which means I would have a second projector for an extra $400. I was told that the main board needed to be changed out. I have been looking online for the board but no luck. Do you have any advice on what can be done. The only reason I want to fix the HDMI is to see 3D movies that I have.
I have bad news. The main board needs changing. One of the hdmi chips has likely gone south and without specialized equipment you are not changing it yourself. This is why they sell refurbished units. They would swap boards and resell or perhaps repair the board. Unless you can find one with a bad LCD block and salvage the board off it.
+Michael Beeny That projector is a fairly pricey unit. according to the installer it may still be under warranty. They are going to try as it is less than 3 years old.
+12voltvids I will follow this one with interest. I bet they will say that because of heat damage due to not cleaning the filter, it would be a breach of the warranty.
+Michael Beeny Yeah, that kinda sucks... How hard can it be for the manufacturer to put a timer on there to let you know you've got to clean the filter? Even better, couple that with a thermal/flow sensor and shut down the damned thing before it overheats, trivial stuff... Anyway, another great video, this time without a happy ending :) Thank you for the explanation! PS: I'd like to see a DLP projector repair sometime, never had a chance to take one apart.
+Michael Beeny The way Epson works is if there is a warranty claim, they send you a new or reconditioned unit, and then you put the defective unit in the box and ship it back. So the owner of it will be getting a replacement.
+Koffi Banan I did to a tear down of a Samsung DLP TV there awhile back. I just gutted it for the parts as the color wheel was broken, and I had some fin lighting paper on fire with concentrated intense light from the lamp.I have a DLP projector myself, but it hasn't broken yet.
Great video. Very educational. I have two epson 8350. One was working good but running warmer than it should. At some point the screen developed a blue tint across the entire screen. The other seems to work perfect other than projecting a blurry picture. The focus lens is missing. Couple questions if you have time to answer. How do I remove the focus lens on the other camera, or would it be easier to remove the entire lens assembly and switch out. If the later how difficult to remove the lens? Alternatively does the blue tint sound like LCD failure...if so what color? or does it sound like something else? Thanks for your time if you have it. Joe H
I have never taken apart the lens assembly so I can't answer that question. As to the blue tinge, it is probably the polarizer filter, but that is part of the optical block assembly. That is what was ultimately changed on this one, under warranty so I didn't repair it. It is possible to change the individual panel, however the alignment is critical. In this case once I discovered the problem was the optical block, and not just dirt build up I contacted the owner whom contacted Epson only to find it was under extended warranty for optical block failure, so he shipped it in and they replaced the optical block. That tells me they have had a large number of failures.
Thanks for the video, Just tried to fix an issue with my epson 3020 home cinema projector that had this same issue: www.avforums.com/threads/tw5910-showing-grid-of-dots.1810392/ Only difference is that my ribbon cables are fused to the board. The white part you can open up is larger instead of a tiny gate latch and its fused.... which is what I needed to open to reseat the ribbon cables which fixed someone else's same problem. Frustrating for sure. I ended up using IPA and a cotton swab and cleaned around the ribbon cables since I figured it couldn't hurt trying and said a little prayer and hoped it would fix it. It did thankfully enough fix it for now and I made sure to thoroughly clean out the dust while I was in there. Never seen a ribbon cable fused before like that in all my fixing days (I fix joy con controllers mostly.... glad projectors don't have that small of boards yet... they are a pain to work with being so small) I just hope that I never have to open it up deeper in since I can't now with everything being fused like that and I don't trust my soldering skills yet that much.
Why don't u take out optical and remove metal sheet and then inspect and clean blue LCD. I use cello tape to remove dust and stains. After blowing with air.

I called Epson years ago they said we don't sell those parts all I need is one of those lenses that's it and I can't find them anywhere!!! They told me to stop that from happening with my 5020 to ( use altitude mode) what this does it makes the fans spin on low-power and high-power faster short always stays cool so the polarizer does not burn!! Another thing they told me is that you have organic and inorganic.. I forget which is which in terms of which one is better. Either the organic or inorganic withstands heat better.. my newer 5020ub I was told has the one that can withstand heat more which I think is inorganic.. I think the 6100 had organic... Or it could be the opposite I ALWAYS RUN MY PROJECTOR ON HIGH-ALTITUDE MODE AND I LIVE AT SEA LEVEL SO THE FAN SPINS FASTER MUCH EASIER TO REPLACE A FAN THEN A LENS BECAUSE OF HEAT.. ;) As for the clogged filter I vacuumed mine out all the time and it didn't make a difference in my 6100 and it never seems dirty..

Hi, problem with my 6030. Powers on and lights the lamp. Image disappears after about 30 seconds. Projector flashes blues status light and solid orange lamp light. Could this be a ballast problem? If so, I think I saw the ballast on the lower right side when you had the projector torn down. Can I remove it without removing the main board?
Probably not. More likely a bad lamp, bad fan, dirty filters. Ballasts generally either work or they don't. Lamps have been bad lately. I had a projector that had a bad lamp bought one off Amazon failed within a hour, sent it back got a second after a month it started shutting down over and over. Got a 3rd lamp and so far so good.

I have an epson projector that's displaying green when it should be displaying blue. If I tap the side of the projector the green begins to somewhat shift back to blue. Any advise as to what might be causing that?
Could be that the blue or green panel connection where the panel plugs into the main board is loose. Check to see that the connector is properly seated.

Okay, I cleaned both connectors, the problem remains. I desoldered the connections from the board and then resoldered them again, but the problem is still there. Wriggling the LCD cables while it is running makes no difference, so it must be a problem at the LCD end, or somewhere else on the board. the lines sometimes disappear on their own, but return again randomly. So frustrating.
Laser Man Likely the LCD panel themself. They give lots of problems. Same with dlp chips. The mirrors fall off and leave you with white and black specs in the image.
Kinda funny, I tell people to clean the filters on their AC or HVAC systems, most don't bother. I used to work at the Revco warehouse in Cleveland. They blew compressors on the roof condenser units all too often. Why, because the maintenance guy did not change the filters often enough, Cleveland pollution did its thing. So they replaced 5 ton compressors for the cost of 2$ filters not being changed. I knew the HVAC guy, he loved it, got to replace 2K$ compressors all over the place because of stupidity. You should tell people NOT to change or clean their filters, good for business - LOL! Don

PS the Limit Switch didn't stop the gate and I had to reposition it between the two.
thanks for sharing, as a repair technician I never dealt with such fault. Now I know..thanks God bless
This video helped a lot for my Epson 5010
Be careful when taking off the top cover. There is a plastic pole for the screw on the left side (from the rear) that is close to the 2-pin fan power cable. When I got the lid off I have accidently pulled that cable out. When I assembled everything together and turn the projector on the source and temp lights started blinking. I was so nervous that have broke something. After opening it again and attaching the loose cable everything got back to normal.
Thanks for the great explanation as to how LCD projectors work. Helped my understanding!
Great vid and a decent deal of explanation. Thanks again.
This also works for the 5030UB projector. They're almost identical. Any advice on fixing the overheat/temp light on cold startup issue? I think I've located the temperature censors but don't know the part number or what I should do to otherwise fix them. Thank you for this video.
Thanks! You made me save my projector!
Bit of a older video revival, how do i go further and remove the lens assembly attached to the optical engine in one piece? I have a eh-tw7200 with dust blobs and really need to clear from the bottom of the assembly upwards than cleaning in downwards
Couldn't tell you
12voltvids - if I'm seeing green blobs on black screens and purple blobs on white screens I'm assuming it's dust on the color lcd's.
You have learned the hard way about owning an Epson projector. No parts available. Time to buy a new one because Epson doesn't sell parts.
Are the polarizing panels unique or could you replace them with any polarizing screen you’d come across?
Assuming they were the same polarity, sufficiently rated for heat and not too reflective, I imagine mounting them would be the biggest challenge.
+wdavem
Yes it got toasted real good. Heat has always been an issue. That is why I like dlp projectors myself. 3 panel dlp are pretty impressive. But then they do cost big bucks they should look good.
Hello ! I have the same projector but my lamp cover does not close, how can I solve it?
Very informative,well communicated video.
Awesome video and extremely informative Thank's so very much definitely a thumbs up!
I ahve actually only worked on 2 epson projectors, so I am unaware of issues. I know they had problems with the LCD panels on many, like this one.
Great video! I have this same projector, it has a few vertical blue lines, any thoughts?
Yes the optical block is shot
Now if only Onkyo would do the same for all their defective
AV receiver, not noooo they want it sent in to be repaired, and you are without a sound system for 8-12 weeks.
Craig Wiggan
Internally they are fairly similar inside.
The problem with dust it it creates a hot spot that can damage the plastic polarizing filter. The way to prevent this is to clean the air filters every week if it is used daily.
@@12voltvids how would you clean them? with alcohol and microfiber cloth?

Dear 12voltvids: I have the ub model of this projector. Sadly never cleaned the filter and it has over 3500 hours. A straight vertical green light is appearing on the right side of the image now.
Probably one of the fans is getting noisy.

I have only worked on 2 Epson LCD projectors. This one ended up being under warranty, and was not repaired as Epson did an exchange.
Ok thanks
Hi there, I have an Epson 5030UB and has vertical lines projecting to the screen,I would like to know if you have a video with this fix or have an idea of what could cause this problem , I do enjoy your videos.

Hi,
Thanks for all the information.
Thank you.

Is the optical block something that can be user replaced? I saw Epson has their parts distributors listed (Encompass and Compass) but cannot find a specific part number available from them for the entire assembly. Do you think the cost of that part would make repairing this issue not worth it?
Mike Karina
the cost of the block is probably more than half the price. this one ended up being covered under warranty. Epson swapped it out.
GodzArmyofAngels
the owner didn't clean the air filter and it over heated.
wow thats amazing how a simple air filter can cause that definitely gonna go replace mine now haha. just letting mike karina know that just because a repairer says the motherboard and Optical engine need replacing doesn't necessarily mean they are correct. like i said earlier when my projector died i was told the same thing i.e u need to replace both board and OE. i was getting the flashing lights and projector wouldnt turn on etc. i opened the projector myself and found the PSU had blown which was only a $100 fix rather than $3000 + labour cost i was quoted
Sorry do you know where I can buy the main board because mine had a short circuit!! I need it ASAP
No, sorry. I know nothing about these as far as parts go
So I got my 6030 today and it does turn on - but both HDMI ports do not work (no signal) I tried component and the Pb does not function but I get a picture otherwise. VGA works perfectly but composite doesn't work at all. I pulled the mainboard out as in this video and do not see any visible damage upon close magnification. I would assume the mainboard is just fried at this point? Any idea what these things might cost? I verified the panels look perfect on video tests with VGA though.
i have exact same problem on 5030ub , did u solve your problem?
I have same problem with 5030 ub , any fix?
It may be the effect that smoking causes in the projector, some people smoke and create anunpleasant tint in the optics, I had to clean my projector several times until I realized it and not let smoking in the room, it is expensive equipment to be damaged by this cause
Smokers ruin more than electronics. Just think about what they are doing to their lungs. I have no sympathy for folks with lung diseases brought on by smoking. I saw a number of my relatives have their lives cut short by smoking.

@@stevenmp3
90% of the failures are caused by the owner not cleaning the air filters at the prescribed interval.
@@kingrpriddick
Well car engines don't change much year to year. Electronics on the other hand change every new model. It would cost a fortune to stock. So they don't. If something breaks under warranty they just replace with a new one.

I would expect the optical block would be very expensive and probably un economic to repair, as the price of new better projectors continues to fall.
+Michael Beeny
That projector is a fairly pricey unit. according to the installer it may still be under warranty. They are going to try as it is less than 3 years old.
+12voltvids I will follow this one with interest. I bet they will say that because of heat damage due to not cleaning the filter, it would be a breach of the warranty.
+Michael Beeny
Yeah, that kinda sucks...
Another way to overheat and ruin an Epson 3lcd projector is by leaving the lens cover on top of the lamp box.

Only difference is that my ribbon cables are fused to the board.

Or it could be the opposite
I ALWAYS RUN MY PROJECTOR ON HIGH-ALTITUDE MODE AND I LIVE AT SEA LEVEL SO THE FAN SPINS FASTER MUCH EASIER TO REPLACE A FAN THEN A LENS BECAUSE OF HEAT..

@@12voltvids Got a new lamp, doesn't even work. cleaned the filters, can hear the fan, so that 's probably not it. I see a lot of people say only buy OEM lamp/housing. Is there truth to that, or are non-OEM ok? Thanks in advance for all your help. Subsribed.

Buy only OEM
Every one of the cheap ones i have ever bought was a knock off and didn't work from the get go or didn't work very long.
thank you...
I'm getting a vertical line that comes and goes on the same projector. It is sometimes red, sometimes yellow or cyan. It appears in different spots from the top to bottom of screen regardless of input. Happening on both my projectors. Any ideas? check seating of LCD panel connectors to main board
Thanks. Is it possible to also remove the LCD connectors from the LCD panel end? There seem to be a ton of 6030 projectors with this same problem.
No they don't come off the LCD themselves. The LCD cause many problems.
Laser Man
Likely the LCD panel themself. They give lots of problems. Same with dlp chips. The mirrors fall off and leave you with white and black specs in the image.
By the way, Hello From Truro, Nova scotia :D
Don
