He was never underappreciated lol😅 Considered as one of the greatest actor ever produced in India both by the fraternity and audience alike. And he wasn't just a OTT or character actor but gave plenty of hits and blockbusters as a lead actor ❤ Never seen anyone hating or trash talking about him either and was always given his due credit So I don't understand why you would say he was criminally underappreciated.
Amitabh Bachchan was so great in this movie...it will be one of his most memorable roles..also he isnt Bengali in real life but his accent and way of speaking was so pitch perfect that hardly anyone would say that he isnt bengali
I used to think he was hamming it up in this role, being overly stereotypical... my bengali friends actuallty disagreed, saying this is accurate and not an exaggeration!
They have proud history great leader but they are stuck there and can't think of today condition of bengal like apart from subojit ray you cant really tell one good director from there just as an example.@@prodigalfraudaddy-es1gl
Remember the boy who got poisoned and died in Qala? He is real life son of Rana(the male lead aka irrfan khan) his son babil khan is new to the industry who made his debut through qala.
In india taking care of aged parents is an ingrained culture. The ones who don't or the practice of old age homes is looked down upon and Piku is a top notch take on that. I hope more such films should be made that that are rooted to the culture and values. Such a beautiful film it is❤. Also wanna suggest a film that's both visually stunning and deeply emotional, I highly recommend 'Guzaarish.' Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai, a duo made in heaven, deliver incredible performances in this beautiful film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It tackles a dark subject with such grace and artistry, making it a truly unforgettable experience. The cinematography, the music, and the storytelling all come together to create something really special. I'd love to see your take on this masterpiece!" Also it's of short duration so time would not be an issue this time😊 Just like Qala short and impactful
its not an ingrained culture . It is kinda brainwashed us into believeing that . Like how adult says to kids " if you dont drink the milk , a ghost will haunt you" . Somethings similar happens to that . We are often told to do these perticular stuff against our wishes , so that society dont discard us or loathe on us or make fun of us .
I am an Assamese but lived in a colony where most of the families were Bengalis. This is exactly how they were. But I love them, they don't hide things, will tell you straight to your face.
I still can't digest the fact that Irfan is no more. His acting in movies are so real it never feels he is gone. World lost a true gem of an actor he could've done so many more great work. R.I.P Legend.
I wish I could give your recommendation thousand likes so it grabs Waleska's or Efra's attention. I hope others will do it for me. I do so wish for them to watch Queen.
Absolutely.. We don't leave our parents no matter what. They took care of us when we were kids and it's our duty to take care of them when they are old. My mother is a cancer patient and is always in pain and me, my sister and my father take care of her no matter what. We still laugh, cry and get angry at each other still. That's what family is and that's what family is for. Being there for each other without asking anything for return. ♥️♥️♥️
I remember when she debut, the headlines used to read "Legendary badminton Player Prakash Padukone's daughter". Then couple of years back I read a headline "Deepika's father who was a badminton player". I was like, how times change.
Amitabh Bachchan's character reminds me of my father so much I swear it's scary how similar they are. He had an accident and got paralyzed. He's recovering but he needs constant care. Other than paralysis the only problem he has is constipation 😭 this is the same way we discuss constipation in our family and this is how seriously my father takes his poop situation. And the fact thay he looks so similar to Amitabh Bachchan here, and the voice, and the way he calls "piku!" is literally like my father. Oof
I hope you will explore more of irrfan’s work for deepika and amitabh this was a critically acclaimed and an experimental type movie but for irrfan this was one of his commercial movies if yall actually check his critically acclaimed movies which btw most of em are it will blow yalls mind
It is the next movie.... This movie was to be released previous week but due to copyright issues it is getting released today.... Probably this weekend BB will be released.
Syed and Piku are Friends-With-Benefits. So when she finds out he also had constipation she coulnd't continue anything with him. And she had developed feelings for Rana who was the man who lets her be but also takes charge when she needs to be protected and he also is going through the same kind of situation. I miss Irrfan man. He was an amazing actor. And a fantastic romantic lead. Not in the very filmy over the top unrealistic SRK, Amir or typical bollywood type but in a very mature and realistic romance like in Piku, Qareeb Qareeb Single, Life in a Metro.
I don't get why people suggest Bhool Bhulaiya, it's very much a hit or miss when you aren't Desi and don't get the jokes. So many reactors haven't loved the movie because of that. Why waste their time with it?
I don't watch bollywood mvies, or movies in general but my wife highly recommended me I watch this - I ended up crying a river since it reminded me of my grandfather - the most learned man I have ever know and a copy paste situation post his 70's. This is what was the only discussion topic for next 15yrs he survived. We have a pharmacy in the house.
No this isn't "western" approach please. It's bengali approach. Shoojit Sarkar the director is bengali himself and I know it's difficult to understand but each region/state have a cultural identity of their own and Bengali filmmakers in the past have been narrating beautiful and complex stories through great and simple story telling.. please don't all this "western" ew. Neither is everything in India bollywood
Chill, chill. There’s no need to get so defensive. They’re not familiar with Bengali films, but the sensibility feels familiar, and so it naturally feels somewhat Western _to them._ And that makes a certain amount of sense, if you think about it. Going back to Satyajit Ray, a number of Bengali films have appealed to Western audiences historically, arguably more so than Bollywood films or films from other parts of India, and it’s likely because they connected to that style. I mean, the man got a lifetime achievement Oscar award. I’m desi but born and raised in the U.S., and even I felt like there were aspects of the film that _felt_ familiar, i.e. “Western,” even though I know that they’re actually Bengali.
Irrfan Khan. COVID time it was, I was taking a nap after lunch when my younger brother came and woke me up, saying, "Dada, Irrfan Khan is no more." The shock I felt after hearing the news while in deep sleep is something I will never forget. I literally stared at the news channel on the TV, and tears started streaming down my face. I just couldn't digest the fact that I would never be able to see him on the big screen again. That day, I cried I cried like a baby. It took me a week to come to terms with the fact that my favorite person in the entertainment industry was no longer with us.
I watched this movie just before my Grandfather passed and somehow it helped me deal with my emotions and make peace with the loss. So it will always have a very special place in my heart. I miss him every time I watch this. Also, Irfan was such a gem. May the both of them rest in peace. ❤
I love slice of life movies and this has been at the top of my all time favorites ever since its release. So underrated! Also the reason I love watching your reactions: Providing new insights to the movies I watched and love. It truly does feel like a western style depiction of a South Asian concept/theme/dynamic! I never thought of it that way. Love it!
in India we never abandon our aged parents no matter how difficult they are. We believe in family, sadly that is slowly changing , we are seeing more of old age homes these days. but i also see a positive change where some parents are becoming more open minded and a lil less controlling of their children . hopefully we'll all meet a mid way someday. but never abandon your parents
Loved your commentary at the end - everything about parent's conflicting desires for their children and the expectations they feel really rung true for me. Get married, have kids, climb high in your career, and also be a full time nurse in their old age.

Give a watch to the tamizh movie 96 ... I bet u won't regret your decision... It's a simple movie with oceans of emotion... And the musical score is an absolute fantabulous... It will forever remain in my heart until I die
The movie is on point on the bengalis. This is the story of every bengali family, we are always discussing about shit, have a box of homeopathy meds in the home and fretting about every small thing. Our love language is all speaking together and eating and offering food to everyone.
U can watch stree 1 and 2 it's actually horror comedy i don't know whether u will like it or not but i did laughed a lot while watching stree 2 in theatres it will be released on ott soon too .
It's about holding fears grudges that effects health personality and loved ones....but the minute you step out of your comfortzone n fears ( travel or exercise (cycle) ) it cleaned out his fears n pains..
The film always reminds me of my Masi (mom's sister) who took care of late Grandma nd Grandpa, the anger, tension, frustration everything is just like her, she too hasn't married yet
I don’t think they became a couple at the end, or that the bit with the maid at the end was a callback to the “when you’ll get married” dialogue. My best guess is that she got word that the old man had passed so she anxiously came back to see if she’d be accepted for work again, coz the way her convos with Piku were, it may not seem obvious but she definitely respected Piku and mostly only had problems with Bhaskor Da. [As for them as a “couple”] For Piku, I’d say Rana was essentially someone who understood her like no other man (except her dad, maybe) had. A partner who’s not necessarily so much a romantic partner but someone who you know will be there for you when needed, someone who understands you to the core. There’s definitely romantic undertones to their conversations after a point but the writer and director, Juhi Chaturvedi ma’am and Shoojit sir, I love that they kept it open ended, no blatant/obvious concluding scene or whatever.
this is such an incredible movie, the plot, acting, cinematography, screenplay, music each and everything about this one is superb. but one needs to know an indian family's chemistry only then you would be able to see the magic here
One of my seniors in my department in my job is probably in his late 40s or early 50s. He is Bengali, just for the record. He is single and only child of his parents. Got married but don't know what happened later. Doesn't have any offspring. He is diabetic. He is educated in the IT domain. So, he had the option to move to the US or find a flourishing career in an MNC in early 2000s. But he chose to stay with his parents in a mediocre job. One year ago, both his parents fell ill..his father was undergoing treatment for last stage of cancer and his mother was undergoing some brain related treatment of an incurable disease. He single-handedly managed the exhausting treatments of both of them. Now that his father is no more, he sleeps with his mother as she has to go to pee twice in the night. He gets up and supports her to the bathroom everytime in the night...thus sacrificing his own sleep every night. Once I asked him whether he feels overburdened or exhausted and irritated at times, he always says..."they took care of me, when I needed. Now it's my time and I have to do it no matter what."
I love the little glances between deepika and irffan in thos film😭❤️ OH THEY BOTH SPEAK WITH THEIR EYES My crush of Irffan started with this film and its continuing now with Babil😭
Now you see one of the reasons as to why Amitabh bachchan is the greatest actor/star in Indian cinema history. Watch more of his films like black and paa
A film you should watch regarding children’s relationship with their parents as their parents get older is an Amitabh bachchan movie called BAGHBAAN, starring Amitabh and salman khan
I recommend watching "happy new year" & "dilwale" they're both my fav movie, happy new year is like an entertaining and comedic movie but dilwale is like a "rival to lovers" type of movie, and their mv "gerua" is the best mv i have ever seen cus the view is amazingg, so yea i would really love to see y'all react to both of them
The credit goes to Shoojit sarkar the director for creating this wonderful film. Watch more of his work Vicky donor Madras cafe October Another recommendation- Karib karib single
You should watch Amitabh bachchan movies called PAA (a movie where he plays a child and his real life son plays his father) and also BLACK with rani mukerji two classics from his later movies
Great reaction guys! The owner of Taxi cabs, Irfan Khan RIP is still considered one of the finest actors in India cinema. Fun fact: Irfan Khan also played a role of a geneticist who heads the team that created the dinosaurs for Jurassic World 2015 movie.
It's a gem but still due to its more sophisticated dialogues and heavy English use, it will go over the head of 95% households. Young people would get message from it, but there are some things that older generation also need to understand, esp. ageing parents. Wish the movie was more suitable for masses.
But I did not find this movie 'very western ' instade it's quite like a Bengali movie....the majority of the bollywood film the depiction of is Bengali is not nice and inaccurate but this movie shows Bengali family and Bengali culture accurately...❤
Watch Haider If you want to have a great experience The music is fabulous by amit trivedi Also the movie is an adaptation of hamlet and one of the best adaptations that fits in todays world
Latin & Indian cultures are somehow rooted deep ..Call it conspiracy if u want...but according to ramayan he was sent down to patalok.. guess what thats comes as current centarl/south america ... there are so many similarities between Mayan culture architecture & ancient Hindu one ...look yourself. If I'm not wrong there is also a podcast on beerbiceps channel.
Watch kapoor of sons, it's also filled with natural acting like piku, it's also family drama but difference is it's a rollercoaster rather than a slice of life
22:49 that's anupam roy, one of the finest song writers in our country, u can compare him as indian ed Sheeran, in bengal we call him surer bosonto, "spring of music" I suggest u deep dive in bengali music, rabindra sangeet, folk song, anupam roy, fossils & other rock bands, not modern movie songs, they r worst mostly But again bengali songs r most about lyrics 🤷♂️
You guys should DEFINITELY check out some Indian horror movies. I know Waleska doesn't like hardcore horror movies but horror/comedies like BHOOL BHULAIYA and STREE you guys would lovvvvvve it. 🎀😚
Your observation is so apt, Indian culture is very similar to Latin culture actually. Family structure, chaos, joint family, values, etc. You must visit India for a month to get the feel for yourself.
Ek Villain is a must for music, the songs , the theme and the background music all are stellar. And the acting from the antagonist is worth seeing the movie for sure Swades is a must after Piku. Dil Chahta Hai is a must for a modern and contemporary movie watch along And Tum Bin is my request and I hope you can check that out asap
loved your reactions guys! Loved the fact tht you loved the movie. This is my favourite movie of Deepika Padukone and in many of her interview of hers Deepika has also said tht it is one of her most favourite experiences. Deepika has been a professional badmintion player. That's what makes the last scence even great.

I love the little glances between deepika and irffan in thos film😭❤️ OH THEY BOTH SPEAK WITH THEIR EYES
My crush of Irffan started with this film and its continuing now with Babil😭
I miss Irfan Khan sir! Cant believe he isn’t bw us. And the irony that he mentioned about how death comes in this movie
Now you see one of the reasons as to why Amitabh bachchan is the greatest actor/star in Indian cinema history. Watch more of his films like black and paa
Watch HAIDER movie next... You will see how Underrated actor Shahid Kapoor is.😊😊
A film you should watch regarding children’s relationship with their parents as their parents get older is an Amitabh bachchan movie called BAGHBAAN, starring Amitabh and salman khan
Please watch, Ramayan: The Legend of Prince rama! It's a film on Lord Ram.
I recommend watching "happy new year" & "dilwale" they're both my fav movie, happy new year is like an entertaining and comedic movie but dilwale is like a "rival to lovers" type of movie, and their mv "gerua" is the best mv i have ever seen cus the view is amazingg, so yea i would really love to see y'all react to both of them
Piku, Queen and English Vinglish are the best 3 movies from bollywood one should must watch!
There are way more beautiful ones...like eg LUNCHBOX
One of the most Favorite Movie ever❤
Imran Khan is LOVE❤
Amitabh Bachan as usual OUTSTANDING
Deepika BEST PERFORMANCE
This movie is a masterpiece ...my personal most fav Indian movie
No one ever suggests Dil Se. You should watch it, its very underrated. It has great music by AR Rahman.
This film is so weird for me.. everytime I watch it, I feel like I can watch it again right away as if for the first time!!!!
Whoever recommended piku is genius ❤
Listen to all his recommendations😊
In India its very natural and normal to take care of your parents in their old age.
Mr Amitabh Bachchan...What an actor he is..
❤
The credit goes to Shoojit sarkar the director for creating this wonderful film. Watch more of his work
Vicky donor

Another recommendation- Karib karib single
You should watch Amitabh bachchan movies called PAA (a movie where he plays a child and his real life son plays his father) and also BLACK with rani mukerji two classics from his later movies
Also Thappad..... a gem of a movie
Loved the reaction and your perspectives on it!!
Sita Ramam will be absolutely the best choice
Please see caravan of irfan pathan. Another masterpiece about death and road trip and reconciliation...
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED YOUR REACTION!
You guys need to react SWADES of SRK for the best songs from The AR RAHMAN
Try guzarish by hritik roshan and aishwarya. A gem of an acting musical masterpiece and peek into the Sanjay Leela bhansali universe
Dilwale(2015) would be great for a gangster family drama
I would really like you guys to check out Queen and English Vinglish
Watch Haider If you want to have a great experience
The music is fabulous by amit trivedi
Also the movie is an adaptation of hamlet and one of the best adaptations that fits in todays world
It was a superhit actually.
As it earned Thrice the amount of its budget.
please watch highway. it's an amazing film depicting a lot of serious issues. i highly recommend this movie. alia bhatt is in it.
Please try to watch any of these: guzaarish, haider, queen or dil dhadkne do.
Ofcourse its about patience and dealing with pressure and tolerance
You should see AB's acting in Paa, absolutely epic...
Perfect time to watch October and be devastated completely
i highly recommend 'HI NANNA' a wonderful telugu movie with Nani and Mrunal delivering incredible performances. You'll love it ❣
Deepika ❤
Watch kapoor of sons, it's also filled with natural acting like piku, it's also family drama but difference is it's a rollercoaster rather than a slice of life
22:49 that's anupam roy, one of the finest song writers in our country, u can compare him as indian ed Sheeran, in bengal we call him surer bosonto, "spring of music"
I suggest u deep dive in bengali music, rabindra sangeet, folk song, anupam roy, fossils & other rock bands, not modern movie songs, they r worst mostly
But again bengali songs r most about lyrics 🤷♂️
Please watch Rocky Aur Rani prem kahani, please. This one of my favorite rom com. And the music in this movie is top teir.
You guys should DEFINITELY check out some Indian horror movies. I know Waleska doesn't like hardcore horror movies but horror/comedies like BHOOL BHULAIYA and STREE you guys would lovvvvvve it. 🎀😚
thank youu this is my comfort movie 😭
Your observation is so apt, Indian culture is very similar to Latin culture actually. Family structure, chaos, joint family, values, etc. You must visit India for a month to get the feel for yourself.
I wish you could watch more aamir khan movies . He's just an amazing actor
Ek Villain is a must for music, the songs , the theme and the background music all are stellar. And the acting from the antagonist is worth seeing the movie for sure
Swades is a must after Piku.
Dil Chahta Hai is a must for a modern and contemporary movie watch along
And Tum Bin is my request and I hope you can check that out asap
This movie was directed by Anupam Roy, I love his compositions. I'm in love.
loved your reactions guys! Loved the fact tht you loved the movie. This is my favourite movie of Deepika Padukone and in many of her interview of hers Deepika has also said tht it is one of her most favourite experiences. Deepika has been a professional badmintion player. That's what makes the last scence even great.
