Mark - you guys are truely inspirational and as always -10 minutes of potentially life changing content. Welldone
Hey @Mark Bone is there a way to see the film in Europe?
@@Superjeanmarc hopefully soon! Go leave some comments on the trailer to help convince the distributors and festivals!
@@markbone Done. Hope it happens. Really enjoyed this insight into the process. (from one of the 10% :)! )
Been looking for this doc! Great information on this video for one person crew. Thanks again for being so informative!
I’d love to see more of the technical and practical aspects of the one person film making in addition to the narrative driven content.
Me too 😊
I tried my own. Hardest challenge I've ever set myself. Worst aspect was the practicality of filming multple takes, overcomplicating the angles and trying to tell a story with lots of dialouge. Here is the results, please be kind, it's very poor.: ruclips.net/video/AhFR4m2LJX8/видео.html
No idea how only 10% of viewers make it to the end of your videos...I have never clicked out early...always so useful, entertaining, engaging. Thanks for another great bit of insight from you and Michael. Cheers from Vancouver.
It's wild. only 45% even make it half way! they're missing all the best knowledge. oh well! appreciate your support Stu!
@@markbone I usually load up a video, keep the tab open, and come back to the rest later. Not sure how that registers in the data...
Only 10%? You are my best teacher in the filmmaking process and the greatest! I went to study cinema at university, but is was bad environment. The teacher was bad and the students always wanted to competitive during the class between them. They have no passion for the art of filmmaking. Mark, you are best and greatest teacher ever. Sorry for those who could not watching to the end of the video. Always, have a nice day and good luck, Mark!
“How do you create a feature film? One day at a time.” 👍🏻
Honestly , the topics you cover , how real you are and how you explain it is why I consider this to be one of the best film making tutorial video channels out there ! Thank you for doing this , you make a massive difference man !
I had no idea only 10% of people finished out your videos. Apparently I'm in the top 10% most videos. That's crazy.
I’m in the 10%. As well, well lemme see... 5 likes on this comment. 133 comments... and how many views.... over 12k Hmmn 🤔
My third time saying this, Michael should start his own channel. Good information and personality.
Mike does have his own channel, it's theartofdocumentary.com lol. but actually, we are filming 10+ hours of directors commentary on all his work for next semester
@@markbone Beautiful self plug, lol. I'm on it
@@markbone Go Michael! Looking forward to the director's commentary!
I was homeless for 8 years in overtown Miami addicted to fentanyl, crack and meth, iam now clean from all substances coming up on 9 months clean and I stumbled on this because I have such a big story to tell and I have a Nikon d3500 camera and want to make my own film but would be recording everything myself so I'm really grateful I found this video I'm going to do my best and take this information to produce something similar and unique, god bless!
🙏🏻
He is so great!!! Thank you for supporting him!!!!
Your videos are super valuable. I don't know why only 10% would make it to the end but thank you for not compromising on quality. 🙌🏾
Was waiting for a video of this kind and absolutely loved it. Thanks for putting it together!
Dude your videos are awesome, each one is so helpful on the road to improve as a creative, thanks a lot...!!
I've been trying to find a channel like yours for ages! Many thanks from an aspiring film maker.
Awesome !! Congrats on great film , blessings to Ray
Hi Mark & Michael! Great look into how Mike accomplished this. I just turned 67 years old. At age 65 I started Jebb Adams YT channel. I restore vintage Singer sewing machines.
2 years later I have a BMPCC6K Pro! When I got BMCC6KPro, I also bought a Nikon Z 30 with 16-50mm lens! I am a poet, writer and serious amateur photog since 2000!
I am a film maker. Your AOD course is my next course.
I live in downtown Montreal and like everywhere; there are plenty of homeless here.
They are mostly Inuk from Nunavik. I want to make a film about my Inuk friends & neighbours!
Their story needs to be heard, but more importantly it needs to be seen as well!
Thanks so much for your incredible work you guys! Your hard work is so appreciated here! Peace!
As always, great video. Thank you Mark!
props to Michael and thank you for sharing. Most other videos like this "making a movie/short film by yourself" always has some catch, or ends with a Thank You to like 40 other people who assisted them etc. This was grounded and realistic for most entry-level / intermediate filmmakers.
I'm glad to be one of your ten percenters, Mark!
💯% in the 10%
Thanks Mark for this vid...definitely motivated me to keep pushing and pursuing docu-filmmaking 🙏
I'd love to see how he achieved such a great look going solo without DP! Thanks for the video. I love it. As always.
Love you guys and what youre doing, cant wait to see this film. Based out of ky,usa
This is phenomenal! Amazing job gents!
I watched this entire video. This is amazing info. Thank you guys.
Michael, huge congratulations on the finishing and release of this poignant story and on getting the (big-name) support it deserves. Brilliantly timed video as normal, Mark! Unfortunately I missed this last AoD video link-up, so will have to watch it when the link is shared for that with the AoD participants. I have a few people lined up to share their stories with me over the next year, but I am wondering about the potential to use yourself (not you, but me) as a subject for a doco? Not feature length, just a short, maybe even a series of weekly updates, perhaps a RUclips channel thing? Last weeks video made me contemplate that in all seriousness, regardless of my reluctance to be in front of a camera! Thanks again for your generosity of sharing for the global documentary filmmaking community to further their artform.
Be well and stay safe, from Downunder (where Winter is coming!).
honored to be part of the 10% 😅 I am so excited for the new advanced material for next semester. Art of Documentary has been a GAME CHANGER!! thank you Mark and Mike! I'm gonna go watch the Ray trailer again for the 10x time and comment. Working on my first short doc and it may turn out to be a solo project so these tips are invaluable.
Thanks for the tips 🙏🏻
The way Mike came up with this movie and it being released now like this is amazing!!!!
Love you guys #AOD
thanks Gerrit! love seeing you on the calls and a part of the community! all the best brother
Very cool. Thank you sharing your knowledge!
You have the best last name ever Mark.
I appreciate your work. Thanks again, Mr Bone.
I loved seeing parts of the city that I'm familiar with. So inspiring, from the story to how it was produced, I aspire to be a solo film maker, great to see that it's possible!
Yeah it's always cool to see Toronto captured in a different light besides Raptors Promo's
This is such an powerfully inspiring video for me. OMC One man Crew, is such a great concept Well done Mark (the introduction of this concept OMC and how to do it effectively!
🙏🏻thank you Perry. We are so grateful our work can inspire
SO dope. Thanks for sharing
You guys are rad.
Right on time! Having a solo trip to AZ in a month, trying to plan all the filming alone 😩
amazing. you got this Lana! go crush it. We mean these tips when we say them. We shoot so many of our films solo
Literally same😂 I’m going to Phoenix in June and I’m planning a short film for it
@@markbone thank you!! Im really exited 😁
Nice! I live in Phoenix! Hoping you have a great trip
Great work! 💪🏽
“Shared human experiences”. Yes, this is where I want to be in my Filmmaking career.
This is awesome, nice work! Looking forward to watching this film. Hey I’m in the 10%!
8 months! Wow and I thought 4 weeks of shooting for my micro doc was a ton. Excellent work, story and video gents.
I am part of the 10% ;) Loved it. Looking forward to watching the doc
This was so helpful for an aspiring filmmaker! Cheers from Newfoundland!
Finally the video i was waiting for, i have to film my 1st documentary alone.
Would love to see some bts and what gear he used especially for sounds.
Happy to be a part of the 10%! 👍🏽
Incredible film michael!
Im a paramedic/FF in real life. Im excited see this from your lens having lived this for years as a rescuer. Maybe I’ll make one from my perspective dealing with the transient population day in and day out.
Its not just the drugs who brings people to the edge of society. Thats not the main reason. Many people take drugs, just think about alcohol. The main issue is abuse in childhood or any heavy dramatic thing. Its not the drug. The drug just make it worse on the body but it helps to get away from those pains. With drugs you can see from outside how it looks in the inside of those people even before they took drugs.
Thanks brother! can’t wait to make more magic together.
No doubt! Love this journey we are on man!
Proud to be part of that 10%. Bone Team 🙋🏻♂️
Man my only complaint is that this video wasn't longer. This was a great video and i'm looking forward to watching the doc now :)
I’m about to film a new spot commercial in 1 hour, so this came at the perfect time. I’ve released a spot and a short film within the past month, all as a one man crew. Appreciate the advice. Also, loving the monthly calls 🙌🏼❤️
You got this! Love having you on the calls man!
Great content
I am in the 10% club. Great videos.
Of course I made the last 10% 😂 Your videos, knowledge and passion are fantastic and I'm so glad to have stumbled upon you guys as I start this transition in my life from an advertising photographer of 26 years to a (hopefully?!) awesome cinematographer. 🤞😆
thanks for the sharing!!!
You’re most welcome
Thank you, thank you for sharing this. I’m a solo shooter and trying to learn the process of documentary shooting, story telling and gear.
Audio and one lens, loved those tips.
Oh, and showing this in high school. “Don’t do drugs. “
How do only 10% make it to the end? Oh YT. This is free GOLD Mark is giving out.
This seems like a really well done film! I've done some solo short films but now I want to try my hand at a solo feature.
Mike absolutely crushed this film. You should make a feature man!
i should be so fortunate to document something like this that matters vs the vapid shit i do now. Great video.
Great video. So many gems for learning & inspiration! You should look into starting a new channel for parking lot recommendations.
is that 10% stat for real?? i watch every video till the last second, this channel is like free film school i even take notes some times ahahah
Great video, big up the 10% Crew!
Where my 10%’ers at
The 10% who remain engaged. Thanks for making and sharing this video
The 10% are my heroes
what only 10 percent watch the entire video? you are one of the few channels that provide real content and not just reviews about gear I can't afford
I’m one your 10%ers! Always!
Thanks for sharing this look at how Michael shot this film, I cant wait to see it when possible!!! I have a question though, how did Michael approach Ray to ask him about filming him for the doc?
Mark bone! This is another great content.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Ugh… my heart 💔
On a separate note, thanks for the tips Mark
This looks amazing and heartbreaking at the same time
Yaay im in the 10% 🙌🏻 never even thought about click out midway
Watched the whole vlog, hahaha.. I am belonging to the crazy 10% :-) Ok just wanted to say i love the the energy of the both of you What a project. Very important is when you start it. To end it also. what i mean is. Lots of people have great ideas, they start a project, and than after a while is becomes one of the many unfinished things. So be brave and end it. Stay focused..thx Mark for your great content..
Thank you!! Finishing is waaaaaay harder than starting.
this video is a great to introverts ...thx
10% ... Good video, good info, amazing work!
💯💯💯
Mark Bone back with the feels
Woho. Im in the 10% 🙂
I usually watch when there isnt any product reviews. I dont like being reminded of what is to expensive to buy🙃
Part of the 10% at the end 💯
Great info fellas. Happy to be a 10%er hehe...Stay Blessed!
The 10%’ers rule the world
I'm glad I'm one of the 10% people that stays at the end of all your videos.
I’m one of the 10%, made it to the end.
I'm part of the 10% :)
Im part of the 10% lol. Saying hi from sunny South Florida
What wireless lav mic do he use for the movie! Loved the trailer for the movie!!!!🙏🏽
Hi Mark. Thanks for this (and for all your other videos). What do you recommend for audio when shooting a doc like this solo? I have a bmpcc 4K.
Really want to watch this film, signed up and all on HotDocs then found out it's Canada only, maybe one day :)
Great content as always! I've gravitated towards documentary filmmaking because it presents these opportunities to discover entirely different worlds and cultures.
Curious about Michael's audio setup. Is he running three sources into the camera? I've been looking for a way to do two lavs and a shotgun with my FS5II.
yeah Mike does 3 sources, 2 lavs and 1 shotgun
@@markbone Hi Mark! what Sony camera is mike using for this? It has autofocus with that 16-35? thanks a lot..I am thinking moving to Sony to some docu style work thanks!
Fellow 10 percenter here! ✌
Yes!! You are my people
I'M THE 10%, and now I'm commenting for the algorithm!
I am one of the 10% 👍😁❤️
I’m in the 10% 👍
What was his equipment list for this film... did he shoot this in 1080p or 4k,... what cameras... or camera, he only used tht one lens 16-35...? Which lenz? What was he editing on, 8 months to film, how long to edit...? How much money did he spend...? I’ve got soo many questions... dope “documentary-style RUclips-video” of the documentary “my name is ray...” I can’t wait to watch it
following your channel has been an incredible journey so far. I'm more and more inspired. Question: I have a small mirrorless camera, no ibis, as it is lightweight if I handled the footage will be wobbly, should I use a gimbal? thanks Mark
Top handle, wide lens & sturdy hands are one of the only ways to mitigate sensor jitter before you have to move to a gimbal
You guys are great. Real examples of high end work using minimal resources even though I am sure you have access to more. Making a hotdocs account now to view!
Yes!! Thank you! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
How can I check it out down here in Austin, TX? My brother and I were just tossing around the idea of doing a short doc very similar to this.
When will we be able to watch it in the U.S.?
Did Ray receive anything in return? Is he getting support via exposure, does he want support? Just curious because homelessness isn't exactly desirable, and putting his story out there is both powerful but also leaves him with a lot of vulnerability.
Yeah, I was even thinking about the places he settles in, I'm familiar with this area in the city (and seen him at this exit), and I realized that if someone wanted to hurt him, there isn't many places for him to hide and be protected either
@@SeanRosairo Dang. Hopefully people are compassionate if they identify him- seems like he's at least not super easy to find- but we can only hope.
Hey fellas... I'm pretty sure the drugs stole those phones you gave him...
But seriously, amazing video, amazing looking film
Great tips ! Quick question, how did Michael find Ray in the first place ? Did he just walk up to homeless people and talked to them about his project ?
I'm a ten percenter!
Part of the 10% *flex*
I’m in the 10% 😀. Do you know anyone or have tips on how someone would film a Doc on themselves telling their own story? That is something i feel I have to do to make any other stories I share make sense. My experience frames how I see the world and I believe would provide a lens for understanding how someone like me view the world around them. Thanks Mark!
Heyy mark hope u doing alright , i was wondering how can we elevate our level in Documantary filmaking if we can not afford ur classes i mean would ur weekly content be enough? Much lovee❤
I think if you're serious about filmmaking and elevating your documentary work then our course would be the best step. I give out lots of information on here but the course is hours and hours of content we only post on there. I always recommend investing in yourself, it's the best investment
How do I watch the film if im out of Canada?
