I agree with what you say about difficulty. The thing about tactical RPGs is precisely that said difficulty along the slow pace make your average FPS gamer tired very quickly. It's not for everyone. That being said, I think the strategy is significantly more complex than in FM1. For people who already like this genre, FM2 offers an improved experience
FM2 was where the AP system all the games after it in the series had which REALLY was a improvement because you had to take that into mind as you moved, attacked and defended. Difficulty in a Tactical RPG comes down to how long it takes you to understand it's systems, you're investment and PREVIOUS Experience with this genre! I mean I started with Fire Emblem Blazing Sword back in the GBA heyday as my first Tactics RPG (Final Fantasy Tactics was my INTRO, but Fire Emblem was my second and the one that was my TRUE entry as I never got pass Chapter 1 back in the PS1 era. Only beat it in the PSP era) but I never ventured into HARD modes till Radiant Dawn on the Wii (since the NA version messed up and tricked you into playing it on Normal Mode) And do to it, other then Awakening! I've never played that series on Normal Mode. But I found that when I play others like Tactics Ogre, FFTA, ETC. They get EASIER because I've just gotten better! So after the Hell that was ORIGINAL Front Mission 1 USN Route LOL. I'm STOKED for this "Hard difficulty" Basically "git gud" applies to EVERY genre. Even FPS I got "Gud" at rooting out Campers and quick-scoopers that I became the ANTI in that department! Something's fun about breaking what is considered "broken" but then I don't like "Vanilla FPS" much (Multiplayer in general just not much fun anymore, especially with the cheaters running about and those in charge being near useless, and no RPG elements being a BIG Borderlands, Deus Ex and System/Bioshock fan) anymore so can't say. Do as you like I guess. But I am noticing the age of dumbing down is starting to wane and challanges are popping up again in many games so hey there's that!
@@paulman34340 I had a similar experience. FM1 was the first tactical RPG I ever played back when I was 7 and I never made it past Hell's Wall. Then Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon came out for the DS and that was what really got me into the genre. The USN campaign is indeed hard. Playing through it made me relearn how to play that game in order to overcome the numerical superiority and strength of the enemy. It's crazy how playing it makes you respect Hell's Wall and even feel sad that you have to fight against them in the first place. After completing both campaigns in the hardest difficulty, I'm more than ready to take on this new challenge.
This was a bad port. At least the first remake was OK at best. It only means that the 3rd remake will be bad. This company is not putting the extra effort to add QOL or other bonuses.
Nice to see a review before I buy! I was always planning on buying this as a Front Mission fan being the ONLY Front Mission I've yet to play! And other then Loading (which I can bear seeing the ORIGINAL PS1 version's loading times! This one is actually FASTER so I view it as a positive instead of a negative) and the sale. I can afford to get it without much loss. Just wanted to know if there was anything else I need to know like bugs or crashing! Otherwise happy to know there isn't anything to fear!
FM2 is pretty hard overall. I recommend not equipping shoulder shields or weapons on your main assault units, as Evasion is very crucial in this game., Make them as light as possible, and have them specialize in a single weapon. You'll thank me later.
Agreed lol I feel I have gotten too used for things to load quickly, I do remember a nice thing from that time was when loading screens had mini games to help out with the waiting
@@TheObliviouzGamer Yep, when you said Loading times, I was almost afraid they never bothered to fix that from the PS1. Only they don't look that bad so it doesn't look like it's a switch thing! PRAY for the PC version that it's not a FEATURE (like how 2K made the long loading a feature in many of their games no matter WHAT platform you play them on which made little sense to me!) or if it's still there! It's short or shorter! Honestly I'll never not be use to load times! Hell I feel seeing them calms me a slight be provided their not longer then a MINUTE at max! (Tears of the Kingdom still have them, but only if you die, load save or quick travel and their not as bad) so it doesn't feel like a Switch thing! And hopefully any future patches LOWER the load times more!
any idea on when they release the physical copy on the switch? waiting for that before i buy this for my switch.

Good to know. As a fan of the series I was underwhelmed with the first remake but this might be worth checking out

The loading times for the original FM2 game would kill you on PS1. lol The loading times were rough to sit through.

Fm2 gets pretty hard later on. Especially the boss battles
This game is all regions? And do you know if have new game plus?
Yes
