I have had the good fortune of reading Minor Detail by Adania Shibli and I can't praise her book enough. It's a gift to be able to capture multitudes in the smallest of spaces. It's immensely gratifying to read books that contain such precision of language where not a word feels wasted and the emotion resulting is all the more striking for it.
it amazes me how much reaction the word Palestine alone provokes in the comment section; it makes the peculiar description of the author even more palpable! When you start to write about Palestine, regardless of where you come from you start to measure words, you become very careful as everything needs to be documented and as much as possible freed from emotional pain and distress, not only for your own safety, also to not ignite a storm from the other part burning the message you try to deliver!
It's because the recognition of the existence of Palestinians proves that it wasn't a land without a people for a people without a land. It's interesting that so many colonial powers have denied the existence of groups of people throughout history so as to deny their collective heritage and justify wiping them out. The indigenous people of Australia were also declared to not exist. They were considered non people so as to justify their genocide. Zionists cannot deal with the legitimization of Palestine because it exposes their criminality. It brings to light what they did in 1948.
Historiography refers to the study of how history is written and recorded, acknowledging that historical accounts are always shaped by the biases, perspectives, cultural contexts, and personal experiences of those who write them. It recognizes that no historical narrative can be truly objective, as writers inevitably bring their own interpretations, cultural lenses, and subjective viewpoints to their historical accounts. This concept emphasizes that historical writing is not a neutral, purely factual process, but a complex act of interpretation influenced by the historian's background, social context, political beliefs, and available sources. Note that how an individual interprets the above description of historiography can reveal whether theyre willing to acknowledge personal bias when giving their own narative of the past or present.
agree absolutely on the personal verge every narrative has and yet it is very special when there is a common agreement in pretending your story has no right to be at all as you do not exist in the eyes of that group to keep their story running.
Thank you. 😔 Stories matter...and all have certain bias and nuance whether fiction or non-fiction. One must always question the who and why and political climate of all written history.
Definition of the word 'Narrative' by Merriam-Webster dictionary: "a way of presenting or understanding a situation or series of events that reflects and promotes a particular point of view or set of values"... In other words, a 'story'. While inventing stories (or 'remembering' events in a narrative form) it is frequently the case that the storyteller will pause and hunt for a more dramatic way to present their tale, in order to elicit deeper audience engagement. Hence changing the storyline's time trajectory, etc., to achieve greater dramatic effect. And, as we all know, 'stories' are not facts, nor are they historical facts. Everyone loves stories, but we should all remember the difference between what are imaginary make believe 'narratives' and what are archeologically-proven, historically-accurate, scientific facts. Especially where the fictitious 'nation' of 'Palestine' is concerned. Repeating a fairytale many, many times no more makes it real than repeating a lie over and over again makes it the truth.
It is not fictitious . By saying so you are blood thirsty. Refer back to Francesca albanese’s comments. Even if u say Palestine as a state doesn’t exist and never had … A PEOPLE GROUP DO EXIST AND NO ONE ELSE CAN DENY SUCH A THING ESPCIALLY FROM THE LIKES OF YOU YOU KNOW NOTHING OF MIDDLE EASTERN HISTORY I SPEAK ARABIC. Good riddance you are disgustingly for disregarding a whole people group and justifying their extermination .
