FINALLY someone who test this kind of antenna also on 80m band!!! Becouse I think, anybody can make QSO on 20m band with whip antenna... 80m band QSO with whip antenna is realy difficult and interesting. Especially with QRP! Great result Paul!!!
Beautiful video and beautiful daughter as well with great camera skills , really enjoyed your video , It's very good to get your children involved , I also used to take my two daughters with me while portable DX'ing and now they are both in their 30's and still have an interest in radio.......Beautiful....73
Oh thank you for this nice comment! Yes it's nice to have such a lovely company while portable with radio and it helps to me make this video without tripod 😃. Greeting to you and your girls too 🙋♂️ 73 from Slovakia! Paul
My Dad helped me build a crystal radio for a 5th grade science project. I used to lie in bed at night with a little speaker I cannibalized from a junk transistor radio laying on my ear. I never could get it to pull in more than one station, but I was forever hooked on radio after that.
As usual Paul excellent videos what a beautiful landscape. My wife is from Poland and I just love travelling there every summer the nature and the weather just can't get enough😀. Very nice QRP Thanks for sharing have a good one mate
Watching this video brought me hope of some results on the 80m band using a short Mobile antenna on my balcony rail. I do have fairly nice results on all the other HF bands, and I'm willing to try the 80m band. Congratulations for the QRP contact on 80m with that small whip portable antenna!
Excellent video Paul and your daughter has done a very good job with the camera. The X5105 looks like a great transceiver and the SPX-100 antenna looks a good combination. Thanks for sharing this video 73 best wishes to both of you from north east England de M0DAD David
Its great that Tatiana is helping you and learning along the way. Looking forward to more of the videos. Hope you both keep up the good work and I look forward to working you on the air sometime Paul. 73
Hi Paul,Beautiful Country there. That tree looks like it"s saying put your antenna here:-) Nice contacts with a whip and the first 2 were over 1,000 miles. Not bad at all for 5 watts and a whip I love my X5105 and will never part with it. Battery last so long and my MAG LOOP just folds up and i'm more portable then most hams Thanks for sharing the video. 73 BOB AF2DX
Yes spring season has begun and nature began to wake up finally. Now is the best time to make some nice pictures outdoors. I like X5105 very very much. On the beginning i started with 12.0V voltage and on finish battery ended with 11.8V !!! Battery is excellent in this radio. I was supprised how good is this Moonraker antenna working. I have to made mount on tripod for it.
LOL :-D I enjoy to bring her in to the middle of the nature, specially now when is all waking up all around :-) 73 She is happy, i am happy and mum too... hi hi
:-D Thank you Barry! Yes I had a nice trip with my daughter and my small QRP equipment... Weather was great and the fresh spring flowers was feeling in the air, really! I can't wait for spring time again... QRP is a big fun and my passion all the time! I like it so much. 73 and have a nice day ;-) Paul OM0ET
You have an EXCELLENT camera operator. Currently, I am a Tech, so other than just listening, I could not use this radio. But it REALLY interests me. Thank you for the video demonstrating its use. And take care of that camera operator. She's a gem. KC0OUF
Thank you, yes that she really is ;-) I like the minimalistic conditions while portable operation and to prove that it works too even with such a low power :-) 73, Paul
3:30 here you can see the T-BNC connector. Upper side is connected to antenna, bottom side is connected to counterpoise (center pole of this BNC is of course disconnected) and central side is connected to coaxial feedline cable.
I have an SPX100 and it does not perform like this at all. You have the jumper lead set for 20m at first, but the counterpoint is much longer than the 5m stated in a reply below. Then you change to 80m and get a contact, with such a small antenna with only 5 watts, it must be sending out milliwatts, I am very sceptical about this.
Yes indeed, but there is not such a problem to work DX on high bands like 10m or 6m when the bands are open. Low Ionospheric attenuation, more efficient antennas. 😉👍 73, Paul.
No, it's very easy to adjust this whip. I remember position for 20m band and then it takes 2min to find the best SWR. SWR is usually 1.1 after the final tuning in almost whole band. But you need counterpoise too of course. 73
OM0ET Thanks for that. Are you varying the length of the counterpoise as you change bands or have you settled for 'one size fits all' counterpoise - if so what length are you using ? I have seen examples elsewhere of people using steel tape measures as a counterpoise run out to differing lengths for each band.
Very nice job! and do me a favor - and please please use ONLY "ECHO TANGO" ...... not tokyo not equador or something others - it makes life so much easier - vy 73 de DL8CY
😀 well it's sometimes too short ECHO to understand this letter by my QRP activities. Therefore I use sometimes something longer 😊 But usualy I use standard letters. Hi... Thank you for the nice comment 😉👍 and 73. Paul OM0ET
Hi Paul, nice to hear myself ( ON2WIM) on youtube . Thx and all the best . 73
Also thank you for this QSO Wim! Thanks for watching. 73

My eight year old daughter would be saying "I'm bored" after being there for five minutes. You have great parenting skills! 73 de Bob, M0BOB.
There you have it, THE big kick of outdoors QRP QSO's. Couldn't come better than this. Congrats !
Thank you! 😀😉

Good video❗️ Your Daughter did a wonderful job of filming your video👍🎥
The same set-up for me. Lot of satisfaction. All you need in a small backpack. Good video.
Yes I agree 😉
Great video. I have the X108G, but want to get the X5105
N4GW thank you. Yes X5105 is more versatile. I like this radio. 😉
Nice portable setup. Looks like you had an enjoyable day in the park. Good luck with your new radio. Looks like a, "Keeper !"

Nice portable setup. Looks like you had a fun day in the park. I liked the idea of hanging the multi band antenna in the tree. Good idea.

Paul, Thanks for showing what the Xeigu x5101 can do. You're likely a neighbor of some of my relatives there...
Nice! Where are they located?
OM0ET, mostly around Košice. All my grandparents emigrated to the US 100years ago, but I still have cousins there
Wlodek's callsign is SP8BJU. Great family outdoors video! 73s de SO7BIT.
Thank you Bartek for help, i changed it already down in video description. Thanks for watching too. ;-)
Great video! Nice to see that rig in action.
Hello! Thank you! I love this small rig ;-) 73
I only wish it was a bit less expensive and was 10-15W instead of just 5W. But, I really want one! :)
I have a similar antenna, how do you attach the counterpoise to it out of interest ?
3:30 here you can see the T-BNC connector. Upper side is connected to antenna, bottom side is connected to counterpoise (center pole of this BNC is of course disconnected) and central side is connected to coaxial feedline cable.
Impressive little QRP radio. 73 de WA3RSL

That whip antenna works really well looks easy to disassemble. Thank you for the review. Cameron VK4YST
Yes Cameron, i am suprised too with this whip. It's working really good. I am working on mounting element to put it on my tripod.
Hello From Poland 🇵🇱 73 you are a great
Vare good Paui job ! All the best.73! Olberg--- UKRAINA!
Thanks! Greetings to Ukraine! 🙋♂️ from Slovakia.
What a lovely young lady! Is that the Basilica of St. James in the distance? (My patron Saint.)
In the 11m lane, someone managed to open the station. and how did you do it. Thanks 73!
Beautiful finish.
:-) yes, thank you very much Oleg :-)
Very nice job. How long is the counterpoise?
Jon Jeja thank you! 😉 the counterpoise should be at least 1/4 wave long of the working band. On 20m it's 5m long. 😉
OM0ET Thank you :)
Good job and nice landscape. 73 de in3ade
Thanks i want to show more landscapes from Slovakia ;-) 73
Are DIY plans available?
Not sure. It's commercial product.
A very nice video. Thank you.
What length the countepoise? Thanks for the video!
5m
the propagation mustbe very good,73 paul
Yes indeed, but there is not such a problem to work DX on high bands like 10m or 6m when the bands are open. Low Ionospheric attenuation, more efficient antennas. 😉👍 73, Paul.
But on this lower bands must be really good propagations to do this QSO's.
Nice place to make DX
Hi Paul .where i can by this antenna ? Tnx 73.
Hello. Here for example: www.moonraker.eu/spx-100-9-band-plug-n-go-hf-portable-antenna?___store=english&refSrc=1299&nosto=nosto-page-product1
Great video. Well done !
John Peterson thank you John 👍
Have you had to do much adjusting of the whip length to minimise SWR or are you finding the X5105 inbuilt ATU deals with this antenna well ?
No, it's very easy to adjust this whip. I remember position for 20m band and then it takes 2min to find the best SWR. SWR is usually 1.1 after the final tuning in almost whole band. But you need counterpoise too of course. 73

I think it is 5m long or 1/4 wave on 20m band. But it is working on 80 and 40 too.
What was the counterpoise cut for? 20m or 80m? Thanks!
Was for 20m
@@OM0ET Thanks! Very interesting that an 80M QSO was possible.
@@LouiseBrooksBob yes, it's compromise antenna but still works even with QRP 😉👍
do u have a setup vid with this antenna with the counterpoise ?
What do you mean exactly?
I used couterpoise in this video ;-) 73
Equador Tokyo? Come on mate, use the regular phonetics
thats nothing i heard some wazzock saying elephant Jericho once !
