  • Volkl's Blaze returns unchanged for fall 2023. Still light and lively, with less metal in its construction compared to the Mantra. I liked it better on soft snow; on harder groomed snow, the metal underfoot seemed a bit abrupt.
From the 2023 WWSRA on-snow demo at Mammoth Mountain, California.

Love your review! I ride the 2021 season Blaze in 172 cm and I love em. Also ski a Blizzard Rustler 10 2020 in the same length for all those interested.

How would you compare the Blaze to the Rustler 9 or 10? Also, for context's sake, what is your size and skiing style? Thanks! I really like these short reviews. You get a lot of info across in a short amount of time.

I would call the Blaze more directional than the original Rustler, but maybe broadly similar to the revised (2024) ski. I would give the edge to the Rustler in either iteration because of the Blaze's rather abrupt metal plate underfoot, which subjectively I did not like on harder snow. I'm of average size and generally have the ability to ski in a variety of styles/stances, though I come from a technical (racing) background. Thanks for the feedback!
